    Loved Beth killing the cop but whoa at the way she died. That was just rude and uncalled for. But at least Carol is safe and alive. And poor Noah.

    That was a sad episode. Right up there when Hershel died. It was a great episode but it was heartbreaking. You can't be a good person on this show and make it out alive.

    meh, found it a bit boring and plodding. A showdown with the much more developed Termians would have been a more epic mid-season finale instead of a peaceful negotiation with these vanilla hospital people following Beth's death.

    omg...i knew it! Well, it was kind of predictable because all the hints about Beth's death were there since the start of this season! It was kind of her journey especially this season..and they usually do this when the characters are about to die..remember Hershell? sigh..anyway, it was was a alright mid-season finale, but not as great as S4 mid-season finale. Now i can't wait to february!

    Started great with Rick nailing the cop with his own car... and then 50 minutes of boring... at least finally Beth is gone. So, pretty average for a mid-season finale.

    I'm sorry but there was nothing predicatable about that shot, even Dawn was shocked for the next few seconds before she died.


    What was ever weirder was that very bad cops Dawn was protecting these people from were actually the ones who achieved the peaceful ending. They were genuinely offering a place to them even after what they did to Bob.

    Boring as all hell until the ending. The problem was the people in danger are people I didn't care about. I didn't care about Dawn or Bad!Cop so that fight by the elevator had no urgency. I dont care about FPP so I didn't care about his potential death. Finally I didn't care about Beth so, her death had no impact. Also, they had Maggie ignore Beth being missing so I didn't even care about her sorrow.

    The shot couldn't be predictable, but Beth's dying in this mid-season finale was very obvious yes..when you watch a show since the beggining you already start to see the parallels in the stories and plots.. the first start of the season was a lot about Beth's journey..the same happenned with Hershell in the first part of Season 4. Beth proved in her journey that she could handle herself pretty well, when she was all alone. And i think Hershell's death was way more shocking...

    Oh my goodness! I loved the mid-season finale! I thought it was an awesome episode. In fact, I've been thoroughly enjoying the entire season so far.



    The fight btw Dawn and O'Donnell (just learned his name from TTD) was awesome! That was a well-scripted and well-acted fight. I hated Dawn but she sure could handle herself. She fought well against him. I am more than happy she's dead though. She was a straight up psycho!



    Father Gabriel is nothing but trouble. He leaves the church only to run into Walkers he cannot fight and doesn't even attempt to fight, so what does he do? He brings them back to the church to cause problems for everyone! Thanks a lot, Father Gabriel!! The church was destroyed b/c of his nonsense!



    Honestly, all those cops in the hospital needed to go! They were all a bunch of psychos! Elder abuse, forced slavery, forced sex . . . . that place was a cess pool, and those foolish patients would be idiots to NOT leave.



    Okay . . . this may be controversial, but I thought Maggie's reaction to Beth just didn't fit w/her behavior since last season. Don't get me wrong, the scene was very well-acted. LC did a great job, but Maggie has been so unconcerned w/Beth and her whereabouts that it just felt "off." Beth could have died months ago for all Maggie knew. That is one fault w/the writing. I can't get over the fact that Maggie was ready to head off to Washington w/o no knowledge re: her sister. Definite writing fail there.



    I almost forgot the beginning scene w/Rick and Bob2. That was intense! Rick is not playing w/anyone anymore, and I can't say I blame him.



    Oh, and I loved seeing Morgan at the end!! I can't wait for him to join the group!



    Great episode. I can't wait until February!

    Now this episode really pissed me off. It started out pretty good, and the final scene with Morgan was great too, but I hated how they killed Beth and Dawn just for shock value, and what's worse is Dawn was just getting some character development and I was really looking forward to Beth and Maggie reuniting. Not a fan of this episode at all.

    Pretty poor midseason finale. All the others were done better. While I loved how they dealt with the Terminus people, having them be the big showdown of the midseason finale would've likely been much better.

    I have to say I'm pretty disappointed they went with the obvious death of Beth, and I'm even more disappointed that she went down in the manner she did. She wasn't weak, she wasn't worthless, she actually became a solid character (more so than other characters that are still alive (Sasha and Tyreese come to mind)). I was thinking that Carol would be the one to bite it, since she's kind of had her arc and it would've been fitting for her to go, but that Beth still had some potential.

    Here's hoping Season 5b comes back strong and stays strong. Season 5a started strong, but around episode 5 it started becoming boring and drawn out in a bad way.

    what a heartbreaking Ending poor Beth so sweet I know some people hate her but I liked her and wanted her not too die. but it was just way too sad the way they killed her off that was just way too hard too watch.

    Hershel was living on borrowed time since he got his leg cut off, his death no more predictable than Lizzie's or Meghan's when the prison got overran.


    The Hospital, on the other hand, was not overran. Dawn & Beth were already reluctant partners by then. It was established Beth would be Dawn in a few years or that Dawn used to be Beth before the zombies. Noah was safe. Bob was their dirty little secret.Everything was okay.


    This could've been a monumental bloodshed because of that accidental shot. And the very cops that made the situation so volatile stop it.

    I loved the episode, but I agree w/you about Maggie. Her sorrow rings hollow to me b/c the writers haven't allowed her to acknowledge her sister.

    Even though I didn't care about Dawn or that guy she was fighting, I thought the fight scene, itself, was really well done. That was one of the best fight scenes I've seen on the show, and I must say I was more interested in the rapist falling into the elevator shaft than Dawn. I was hoping Beth would later shoot and/or stab Dawn.

    I had been expecting Carol to be the mid-season death, but last episode seeing Carol still vaguely comatose I switched to assuming Beth would be killed. That said, the structure of the episode made me forget that a death was coming and I was surprised the way it ended! Yes, I saw Beth hide the forceps in her cast and at the time expected them to come into play, but I still managed to forget them until the last moment.


    Any show that can let me know a death is coming, but still manage to surprise me deserves credit!
    Kudos Kirkman and company!


    I like the group even if I occasionally groan at some characters actions. Case in point: Tyrese.
    He needs to die or get on with living in the world he is stuck with! He keeps making everything worse by trying to avoid killing others in some half-assed plan. Had they gone in with Rick's plan in all likelihood Beth would be alive.


    I will need to watch the end of the episode again to see if anyone walked out of the hospital with the gang. I would be a bit surprised if Rick had no takers on his offer.


    Another Morgan sighting!
    Two sneak peeks at him is nice, maybe a third at the beginning of Season 5.5, but I expect to see him encounter the group by the season's end dammit!

    Even if you do not like Beth, her death will affect those you do care about.


    That is the point of the important deaths on the show. It is not about only the person who dies Each death shifts the group dynamic and changes every character.

    I think a lot of people felt like you did about the way Maggie dealt with Beth being missing so it may not be too controversial at all!


    I tend to hate when characters dwell on any given single topic and seeing Maggie do nothing but grief or obsess with Beth being gone would have annoyed me. I actually liked how she was able to compartmentalize it and go on with surviving.

    Judging by the way she reacted to Michonne's information, it's not that Maggie didn't care but that she didn't dare to hope her sister was still alive.


    ...then she got so close only to have that hope shattered. If you ask me, Maggie hat it worse than Daryl.

    Rick never talked about Judith after the prison fell, Tyreese couldn't even bring up Sasha around Carol & the girls, people just don't adress people when they believe them dead.


    Maggie was no exeption, and then her sister was truly dead.

    Normally I would agree with you. I even expected to react to Maggie's grief but it held no impact. Neither did Daryl or Carol or Rick and I love those characters.

    I didn't like Lori but her death and the impact it had on Rick and Carl (another character I don't particularly like) had an emotional impact. This one just didn't pack a punch.

    After seeing the ending again, I don't think Dawn killed Beth on purpose. I think it was just her sudden reaction and instinct to being attacked by Beth. Dawn's facial expression shows shock and she desperately tries to explain as an accident.

    I felt like Beth's death was so pointless. That's what bugs me. If she had died saving someone's life, that would have been big. But just to have her try to kill Dawn in a pathetic way, it just didn't work for me. And they let Father Gabriel, biggest coward ever, live.

    Hershell had his head cut by a sword..THAT was the shocking thing! Beth was always a peaceful person with a great heart! She could not have done anything about Noah..but she did. In the first time, to help him go out of the hospital and tonight! She is a person that always care! That always is gonna help people no matter the circunstances and this cost her life..but i thought she had her moment to shine in this season and she had a great character development

It was a reaction...And i don't know but i think Beth's acted in an instinctive way..i think she didn't think for a minute about the repercussions of stabbing Dawn in that moment. It could have started a war and it could have died a lot of more people. And Beth was always a peaceful person, that's why i think it was so instinctive

    It did lack that visceral feeling of either pain or shock that some other finales have had...

    I can't put my finger on it, and in the moment it was surprising to me, but it didn't really affect me that much. I think since so much of this season had been following Beth's exploits and evolution it seemed like it would be the logical finale moment, but something about how it all played out lessened the impact.



    Beth almost escaped with Noah. Then Daryl was sure to save her. Then Carol got inside the hospital and it seemed (at first) like she would get Beth out. I think going through all of that made Beth's actual death feel almost inevitable.


    I know it will effect Daryl and Maggie and everyone else, but like you... I'm not sure it will really affect me very much.

    OK............where to begin?
    Beth - she went out a "cold way", but brave.
    Rick - Grimes is becoming to "ruthless" for a "sane person" and/or leader of the group.
    Gabriel - I have yet to see a point to his character or any kind of redeeming value..............so far.
    Noah - 4**k, Noah all the way back home!
    Michonne - more of this woman and her "trusty katanna", STAT!
    In and of itself this was a very entertaining episode for me. 4 THE DEAD TO STAY WALKING, I remain Nobody!!!

    In a way she was the last straw: Dawn got killed because these people were avenging Beth. And that snapped the rogue cops out of their corrupt ways. They went back to serve and protect, to Daryl, to Noah, to everyone that wanted to live and everyone that wanted to stay.


    Granted, it wasn't Beth that inspired them while she was alive, she never gave an inspirational speeh nor led by example, but she was the motivation behind it. Because someone killed Dawn because she killed Beth and that has to count for something

    Then again, Lori's death crumble Rick to the ground: it was the very first time he ever lost and he lost so completely it devastated him.


    Maggie had already lost Beth in her mind. She didn't dare to hope until Michonne told her to and that hope got crushed when they showed her the body, but it was only a confirmation that she had already lost Beth

    Don't know how I would've reacted if I hadn't seen the spoiler on The Walking Dead Facebook page (you dumbasses -_-) but I feel like this series just lost one hell of a good actress. And it happened so fast. I knew she was gonna die but I thought it was going to be in the last 30 seconds... Poor Maggie, she lost her father in the mid-season finale of season 4 and now she loses her sister in the mid-season finale of season 5.

    To me, it made sense for Rick to not mention Judith. Why would he bring her up to Carl? Plus, Rick was extremely hurt after the prison fell, and Carl did mention her in his rant to a sick Rick. I never got the sense she was forgotten by Rick and Carl.



    Maggie, on the other hand, made no mention of Beth at all, which was just strange. In her search for Glenn, she leaves notes for him but doesn't add Beth's name to those notes?!?!?! It was just weird to me and a huge writing fail, IMO.

    I'm sorry but Darryl told her earlier that he had been w/Beth and she had been taken. Maggie knew that there was a possibility Beth was still alive, but she still left for WDC. Beth could have been dead for months, and now it seems like Maggie suddenly cares.

    Again, I think this is largely a writing failure than anything about Maggie. Unlike some, I enjoy most of TWD and have very few complaints about this one. In fact, I really don't have any complaints except w/the way they handled Maggie's reaction to her sister's disappearance.

    Dawn = Beth for sure. She said it herself. Neither could leave well enough alone (Dawn insisting on having Noah back & Beth getting in her last "dig" haha get it?) Both "needed" to appear tougher in this world to survive. I'm sorry Dawn is dead actually- I thought she was very a complex character that could have added more to the story.

    Great ending to the "Georgia" movement to continue with the music theme from which "Coda" derives from. Musically a coda is a short passage that brings a movement, or a section a larger piece to an end. In this case the original Atlanta survivors: Rick, Glenn and Carl etc have come full circle. They have to wondering what it was all for. Time to head North.

    Unfortunately for Emily Kinney, Beth's death was more about the mechanics of TV production than about advancing the story in any meaningful way. That's not to say that Beth's death won't have any lasting impact on the rest of the team: she'll be remembered but her lack of presence won't ultimately be a huge deal.

    No, I'm inclined to believe that Beth was written off more as a necessity because Emily Kinney is almost 30 years old (29) and starting to look it. Beth by this time at most would be 18 or 19 years old and there aren't too many people in their 30's that can pull off playing a teenager. Chandler Riggs is still only 15 years old and the only plot point left for Beth was to be part of the subtext that was being teased between Carl and Beth. A 30 year old and 15 year old? Nope.

    Oh I don't disagree with your point!
    The contrast between Maggie's two reactions was huge.

    At times the show seems to narrow a character's emotional response down to how it fits the current storyline by concentrating on only one emotion at a time. It's one of the series recurring faults IMO.



    It makes for a more streamlines narrative, but it ignores the complexity of the characters and humanity in general.

    And why did Beth stab Dawn? Did she know Dawn would have just still be a crappy leader with Noah in her clutches again?

    Rick was going to try to sneak into the hospital and kill the cops SEAL Team Six style and make off with Carol and Beth in the confusion. There wasn't much more to it than that.

    Beth stabbed Dawn because she realized that it wasn't the other cops that were enforcing martial law on the rest of the hospital: it was Dawn all along keeping an iron grip on things using psychological tactics. Dawn was a wolf in sheep's clothing and Beth saw it. She saw her chance to end it. She took her swing but wasn't strong enough to finish it.

    I didn't find the end scene rushed at all. Everyone was free and clear. Live and let live. They could have all walked away but Dawn had to try to enforce her control and will one last time. To what end is really the question? She had to have known that there was a good chance the standoff would end in bloodshed. But Dawn the wolf was wounded and weaker by having lost this much control in front of so many. She rolled the dice and lost.

    I'm sad about Beth's death. Tbh, I didn't realize that Beth had stabbed Dawn until I read the comments here. I also wasn't 100% sure that Dawn had shot Beth until now, mainly because of Dawn immediately looking at either Rick or Darryl and mouthing "it wasn't me" to them. I thought maybe it was one of the other cops, hoping to make it look like Dawn did it, and get her eliminated.
    Darryl, crying, broke my heart after he killed Dawn. The whole sequence of him crying, Carol trying to get him to put the gun down, and then later carrying Beth out of the building, was extremely sad to me.

    I'm not happy about Beth's death, but at least Dawn did it. What I mean is, when Tara suggested they help go get Beth back, I was a little scared that they may inadvertently screw it up and get Beth killed in the process. I had this vision that one of the Firetruck group had one of the cops in their sights(like a sniper) and took the shot, but at the last second the cop moved and Beth got pushed in the line of fire and took the bullet instead.

    Certainly had its strong points. But after such a promising season kickoff, I'm hoping this show can break itself out of a formula that's becoming (to me) a bit too predictable -- i.e., pick out a secondary character, give them some compelling plot to build screen time, then kill them off in a "shocking" way.

    Don't get me wrong: I *never* miss a TWD ep and it continues to deliver some absolutely awesome moments. But as a viewer who's definitely in it for the long haul, I love when they pull off those truly shocking twists. Unfortunately I saw this one coming a mile away, but only because it fit the formula to a tee. I really, REALLY wanted them to prove me wrong!! Plus it would have been kinda cool, after toughening up Beth's character, to see how she might have contributed to the group. On the plus side, though, at least Maggie finally remembered her. :)

    I was a little surprised that right after Beth was killed, Rick was already offering to let the other cops come join their group. I kept thinking: really Rick, you think Darryl and Maggie would be ok with having these guys with you?
    I know Rick offered the same opportunity to the Governor's people, but in reality, most of those people were nice, normal people just trying to survive and didn't know how evil the Governor really was.

    Great episode but even though i expected Beth to die i really didn't want her to.

    As sad as I am about Beth's death, I'm just glad it happened when it did and not while the group was walking out the door. To me, that would have been worse.
    I could totally have seen a scenario where, during the exchange, one of the rogue cops--who maybe disagreed with the exchange--makes their way to the roof unnoticed and when the group is coming out, starts shooting and Beth gets hit in the crossfire.

    Not happy at all. This isn't as bad as when they killed of Andrea, but it is a very close second. I loved Beth and I think that after all the major development she had, there were many many places she could go story wise, as well as many new dynamics to see her exploring with the new characters. I love the way she went out standing for something that she believes in and taking a stand but I am still not happy. Damn you writers. The ending really gutted me too. Forever RIP Beth!

    I am not saying Dawn did not like her the people that watch the show some of them did not like Beth. I allso think Dawn did not mean too kill her it was just a shock that Beth stabed her and man poor Daryl the look at his face but he had every right I think too kill the bitch he was thinking you took someone I love your going too pay for that so he took her out.

    Then again, Beth was the sensible young suicidal daughter of Hershel Greene: Tyreese lost every hope to find Sasha and she was tougher than Beth. What choice did Maggie have?


    Glenn, on the other hand, was "Walker bait", the guy that survived a drugstore, Nebraska guys, Merle, the Governor and a deadly flue just before they got married. Even if they never had a ceremony, Maggie had better chances finding her husband than her sister.

    Beth is not The Governor, she's not even in the same league as Lizzie or Garreth, so I don't buy for a second she wasn't liked.


    As much as I grieve for the pitter-patter of blonde singing archers's tiny feet that Beth and Daryl were going to fill their home with, I'd say Dawn grew to care for Beth as much as Noah or Dr. Edwards did.

    That was such a moronic way to go out but I'm glad it didn't end in another shoot-out. I'm also glad thatdawn is finally gone. She was such a pathetic character. Being in control and having power have gotten so much to her head that she couldn't even let Rick have that little victory of a successful exchange.
