Nothing really happened and that's too bad since this has been a great season. But I have a feeling that season 5 will be the final season because this episode felt like it was setting up one.
Also, this is the kind of episode you do BEFORE the end of the season. It's a more contemplative, character driven episode that has some big moments for Carrie--finding out why her mother actually left, which influences her approach to relationships--but don't throw that at us in the finale.
I agree with what seems to be the opinion of many of the other posts: tonight's season ender was anti-climatic compared to the roller-coaster rides of the past few weeks.
Just as we thought that Carrie & Quinn were going to seal-the-deal, the writers ship him off to what appears to be a suicide mission. And, given Carrie's track record for lack of impulse control, it's highly likely that she'll jump on a plane to Iraq to locate/save Quinn.
As I predicted last week, Dar Adal was apparently on a sanctioned U.S. mission when he was with the Terrorists in Pakistan. So forget about him being a Mole, folks. What's not too surprising is Dar and Saul are now collaborating to get Saul the CIA Director's job that he always should have had. Which, in typical Homeland style, raises the ethical question of "does the ends justify the means." Or, more directly: is getting Saul the CIA Director's job a good trade off for having made a deal with the Devil.
Those seem to be the plot lines/stakes for next year's Homeland. But honestly, I thought there would be a lot more action, tension and story development in tonight's season finale.
Loved it. I thought it was a great season finale. A very somber and emotionally resonant episode that proved absolutely necessary and revelatory. Lots of great character moments.
I really feel like they're setting up season five to be the show's finale. It'd be absolutely dumb if they tried to continue beyond there. The pieces have truly been set for an ultimate resolution to Carrie's story.
Didn't really feel like a season finale. I have no problem with the direction the story is going, but it feels like we got absolutely no closure with respect to everything we saw over the past 11 episodes. It feels like they are rushing from one story to another.
Finally they Kiss! That was great! I agree with people here, not raelly a finale, but so what, it was a great season!! Next Season carrie has to go to Syria / Iraq to get to Quinn... that would make a great season! With Saul being in it! Hope they will make more episodes, hate the short seasons!
Yes, I will agree it did not have the same action or big events of past finales. Personally I always found those finales quite forced and poorly written. This was something entirely different! This finale really delved into the characters and how the season's events affected each of them.
Carrie going home to deal with the loss in her family only to find new relatives she was unaware of. All those old issues that shaped the person we have watched for 4 years being fleshed out by revisiting her past and her relationship with her mom. Having to deal with the realities of the fluid dynamic with Saul.
Quinn having to deal with his need for action or distraction. It was nice seeing him meeting up with his old teammate sticking to his decision to not go back into the field... and then a bit heart-breaking (albeit expected) when he went back to the action after Carrie left him hanging.
I guess I am a sucker for character development and denouement in general.. The big climaxes and action-filled finales often leave me wanting more honestly. I like seeing the quiet moments and how the characters are affected by things. I think that can be more interesting than a adrenaline fueled resolution to a seasonal arc.
I truly appreciated this season not going down the well-traveled paths it had before. For me this was the most well-written and by far the best season of Homeland so far. The finale was among the best episodes of the season to me. While some others were great for the action or for the story resolution, this finale was awesome for it's story depth and character development.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
The ENTIRE episode was ruined by the previews. Two most important scences-
ReplyDelete1) Quinn going back to his commandos
2) Carrie confronting the beard dude
*sigh, HATE that.
But overall great season.

ReplyDeleteThe ONLY good thing in this episode was the kiss :P sucks. Bring Quinn back
ReplyDeleteI thought it was really disappointing. I get what they were trying to show with Carrie, but not a good way to go about it.

ReplyDeleteSolid episode, but don't work as season finale, I think they could do better, after all the season has been great so far.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it, it is setting the tone for season 5,. I loved when she seen quinn for the first time after the funeral., Saul Saul Saul smh

It was only okay. Doesn't really serve as a season finale, but the groundwork for season 5 has been laid out.
ReplyDeleteIt was bloody awful,
ReplyDeleteIt was like watching an episode from Modern Family not Homeland
ReplyDeleteAfter the last few weeks i thought all hell would break lose, boy, was i wrong. Very disappointed with this season finale. Shame on the writers!
ReplyDeleteI didn't think a homeland finale could be as disappointing as season 3... boy was I wrong. Was just dull
ReplyDeleteWow what a letdown from the action in Pakistan. Could've done with a 13th episode.

ReplyDeleteThis felt less like a season finale and more like a set-up episode for a final season.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. I found it a bit underwhelming, especially after a few really good episodes...

I stopped watching previews a couple of years ago because that happens too often.
ReplyDeleteComing in late, but my two cents...
ReplyDeleteI thought it was great!
