That's an 'Awesome' from me, which is something I very, very rarely do in a poll. That was a bloody intense 90 minutes!
The interview scene was just amazing, I was absolutely riveted to my screen throughout it. Both of them trying to stay in control, each learning far too much about each other. When Paul was saying goodbye to his daughter he was totally using that as a way to f*ck with Stella's head too, he just didn't let up with the mind games at any point.
I'm glad that Rose is alive. Not that surprised by Jimmy shooting Paul, but Tom as collateral damage I didn't see coming. The fact that Stella didn't even look at him when he was on the ground might cause a problem in his mind too, lol! There has to be a S3 now surely??
Ahhhhhhhhh! I knew something was going to happen, I spurted out about 8 scenarios as I jumped up and down the last 5 mins and then ahhhhhhhh! So so good, I love the depth of the main characters and the intricacy of the police procedures! Why this series isn't on bbc one I'll never know but either way I tuned in and I'll be tuning in for another season if we get one, hopefully!
It was good, but not more then that, no twists, the Jimmy shooting doesn't really count when you know he will be in the forest 20 minutes in advance. No extreme emotions from the wife, no press release that they caught the killer, not giving the police the run around. I guess you could say I was pretty disappointed when he straight up confessed, yes it took Stella herself (granted with a perfect composure) to get the confession, but no real tricks were used, not withholding any evidence or something.
All in all a good end, not sure if I want a season 3.
Could somebody explain the ending for me please??, I mean, why Stella ran towards Spector instead of doing to Tom??, why does she care about him??, if he dies, wouldn't be that what he deserves??, I just don't get it.
Actually I've been disappointed of those "things", since the season 1 finale, I mean, everything had been treated in such a delicate way, Spector had been being so careful, I mean, a guy who even thought in the little details of fibers from his cotton gloves that thought on wearing a pair of plastic ones over the others, who used public computers to look for his victims, I mean, a very intelligent man who knew how to cover his tracks, suddenly started acting as an idiot and let tracks EVERYWHERE!!, the scissors, then burn his car with the evidence inside, if he was so smart he must have known that there will be rests of evidence everywhere, that the car per se would be enough to incriminating him, and as it that wasn't enough he called Stella without caring about the voice recognition, unless all that was on purpose because he wanted be caught, (which I hardly believe), then the writers lost the lead of the character, in my opinion.
There has to be a 3rd season. It can't end like that. I loved this episode, the interrogation scene was thrilling. Sadly I saw the end coming from a mile away with both getting shot, I was however surprised to see that Rose se survived
Awesome episode. And I know that many people don't consider these as twists, but IMO Paul straight-up confessing, seing more about the way he feels and about the way stella thinks and feels -her after-sex discussion with anderson was really interesting, having her say and show one thing but at the final scene seing her insticts kicking in and having her run towards paul and not tom anderson, who is a colleague if nothing more, even if it ends up being just for the sake of getting more answers later on, paul gloating before he gets shot... these are all twists. not in the traditional action-packed sense, but in a psychological aspect that I just love about this show. If we don't get an S3 I'm gonna riot!!!
I don't think it was shock, as such. Stella doesn't tend to show much emotion at all, she can lock it away due to what ever it was that happened with her father in the past. I think that what Paul does to people pushes those buttons in her that brings that mask down, which is something new to her and why she has become a bit obsessed with him. So when she saw the complete desperation Rose felt about her situation that made her leave that final message for her family, it was another punch in the gut for her.
Paul's gloating I think goes back to what he's said to Katie in the restaurant and at the end of episode 4. When he sees someone who has nice things, a good life, he likes to cause them to suffer as he gets pleasure from it.
I think a some people didn't get that this was a show that examined the psychological aspect of a serial killer rather than the usual cop hunts killer affair. It was a slow burner that took place over a few days in order to look closely at what makes people tick. It also required you to fill in the gaps rather be spoon fed the whole picture - i.e. Stella's daddy issues, the mind games.
I agree that there were plenty of small twists, and I think that there were also plenty set in motion for the next season too. Tom Anderson is not going to react well to Stella not even giving him a thought as he lay on the ground, and Spector's comment about them sleeping together was interesting too - the fantasy is always more piquant. Kate is loose canon, her conversation with her mate genuinely scared me. All I can think of is the comment Paul made about some faceless stranger throwing bleach in her face, or worse! The police also have many procedural f*** ups to worry about, from Sally-Ann loosing the baby to not having body armour on at the scene to having Jimmy out on bail after a previous police shooting incident among others.
It was awesome indeed. The interview between Stella and Paul was spellbinding.and the rest of it was great as well! I have no idea idea what connects Stella and Paul, but there is definitely something. Stella's reactio at the end was not that of superior police officer but that of a woman in panic who fears to lose a loved one. No wonder Paul was smirking despite the state he was in! Also glad that Rose is not dead, but how will she ever recover from that trauma??? I am relieved that Tom Anderson did not die completely on screen. It looks like that there is room for both options (dead or not) if there should be a season 3 (but surely there must be because so much is still unresolved). Maybe they want to give Colin the choice? Unfortunately they deleted the scene which gave us an idea how Tom ended up in her bed. With what was left I was struggling to figure out how that had happened. Tom at least got breakfast in bed while the first guy was just chucked out! I wonder if he will play a more important role in Stella's life should he live.
Good point about the body armour. Surely police men would wear them in a situation like that! And you are right, Katie is totally mental. I can see her continuing in some way what Paul was doing "out of love".
Yeah, my impression is that he was. I also felt that he thought it was a prefect ending for himself, especially with Stella's mask having fallen away totally and screaming like that over him. For once the reality was more 'piquant' than any fantasy could ever have been, and he will never be able to achieve that dizzy height ever again.
It was just mental that they didn't have body armour on one day after Spector was in a police/Irish shoot out, and that mobster was out on bail, lol. The media will have a flipping ball about that one!
Stella obviously sees herself as Olivia when she was a young child I think. We know that she is a daddy's girl, and that something very traumatic happened there, but have to fill in the gaps as to what. The scene where she watched Olivia being interviewed where very telling imo, the interpretations of what was going on that she gave to Tom spoke volumes to me. She said that Olivia was wanting to protect her daddy no matter what he had done. The interrogation scene also played around with this notion as well, Paul tried his hardest to knock her off her perch but couldn't do it - barren woman like you, etc. The only time he managed to effect her was when he was saying goodbye to Olivia. I got the impression that he was role-playing to Stella as much as he was talking to his daughter.
Really? Ohh. Maybe it is my slight leaning towards a character that Colin plays :), but I didn't see that. He looked on in shock and disbelief when Stella rushed towards Paul, I did not get the impression that he felt that it was just as well he died. He is not in love with Stella and used her as much as she used him, and surely he could have continued his career somewhere else?
THANK YOU!!, that's what I needed to confirm, I wasn't sure if I got it right, but if I wasn't the only one who saw it that way, then, it was what it was, hehehe Stella likes Spector, Stella also has a twisted mind Spector knows and that's why he toys with her... oh that's so AWESOME!!.
Oops, sorry, I misread. I'm multi-tasking, lol. I meant the above for Paul. I didn't get the impression that Tom was dying. I have been sure that his journey will led him to go against Stella in the end, and this shooting seems to the perfect catalyst in order to set that up,
I don't think it's a case of liking as such. They have become a bit obsessed with each other over this season, which is a different kind of thing. I believe Stella when she told Tom that she despises Spector, but she still wants to learn more about him before he dies.
I can agree with htis. It was just a feeling you know, i was convinced that Kitty was going to kill domeone for Paul and that wass the twist. Obviously it wasn't.
Something felt off about him throughout the whole episode, you're right there. His ability to switch off in the interviews was very different to Stella for example, and I dunno if it was just me, but it felt like he enjoyed showing Katie just how the women died by strangulation. I have also thought it possible that he has inserted himself into the investigation through manipulating the suicide case.
I had that feeling too, but I think it would take an escalation for her to get as far as killing someone for it to believable perhaps. I can definitely see her chucking bleach in her mates face in the very near future and making it look like a random attack. Then seeing attacks move up in scale until she is killing. But I also believe that she needs a partner to share the sexual feelings with, she is a hybristophiliac imo rather than a sociopath.
LOL. No problem, Sandi. Paul did look like dying, and he seemed happy for it to end. But if he dies what is going to happen in a possible season 3? Is it Tom against Stella as you say? Is Stella going to be the centre of attention? And who knows, maybe Katie will go beserk in revenge?
I think Colin playing an ambiguous part that takes him through a dark side would be a terrific role for him to explore as an actor. He's more than up to the challenge I think, though I know where you are coming from on a fan stand point. But I don't think playing that Spector has harmed Jamie's career at all, if anything his fan base has grown and supported him all the way through The Fall. It's given him some of his best material to work with so far, and proved that he is an actor that can be taken seriously rather being just an ex-underwear model who's staring in 50 Shades next year.
Tom did not like the change in Stella's tone when she told him what to do once they were back at the station did he. I think it was a bit of a shock for him that she was going to compartmentalise the relationship quite that strongly once back at work, lol.
The taunting of Spector about the fantasy never living up to the reality, and then Stella not even appearing to notice that he was shot too minutes later will certainly play on his mind I think. I'm not sure how much of a problem he will become, but surely Cubitt has some sort of plan in motion here for Tom.
Don't get me wrong. I completely agree with you on that. Colin playing a multi layered character, someone between good and evil, is another wonderful chance for him to show how versatile he is. And I am sure the fandom will appreciate that! I admit though I would find it hard if he turned into a serial killer. I would still watch it though and I bet he would make a brilliant job of it! :D
It could be that he doesn't ever get as far as being a killer, but gets tangled up in Katie's web somehow maybe. If she starts escalating her fantasies/violence and he becomes part of that - ostensibly as a means of trying to get her to stop but enjoying messing up Stella's plans and then getting caught up in Katie's excitement. That would work for me I think, prob more so that he just becomes a killer overnight, unless there is more there than have knowledge of at this point!
i agree with you.I dont think either that Stella likes Paul after all she said Tom she completly loaths him when they were in bed.I think shes trying to understand him and its very important to her to do so probably because something happened to her in the past and by understanding him she understands the past. Its a mind game.Im not from uk but is there a way for us to know if there will be another season?Im not sure if i want to be a Paul centered one but more with another case and more of Stella past and maybe she turns to Paul for advise like that priest.
Yeah, I'd agree with that. He helps her to understand things about herself, and others (most likely her father) that she can't get to grips with without him. He's important to her, but she loathes him and the fact that he means so much to her imo. There's a bit of a Starling/Hannibal thing going on in some ways.
I don't think anything has been announced yet about S3, which is disappointing :(
I hope not. Budgets at the BBC aren't in the best shape atm though, lots of shows are having to wait to hear if they are going to be renewed or not. The cast are hopeful though, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was picked up by someone else if the BBC didn't. Netflix or Amazon could possibly support RTE instead.
I was a little underwhelmed by the finale too. The way he was grinning and how he looked up to the sky when the helicopter was out of their line of sight, I was hoping for some twist, even if it did mean him getting away I would have been slightly more invested in it. The way that they did end it I think that they should have just let him die and finish it. I don't really understand the motivation or interesting plot that they could come up with to drive a third season that would sustain an audience for 5 or 6 episodes of. Good show but could have been better!!
I would have liked one more episode dealing with Stella's unorthodox and illegal tactics Rose making it home and his family making it in the aftermath. In the real world Stella would be sued for not keeping the prisoner safe and other illegal searches and interviews she did.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Did you get the impression that Tom was dying?
ReplyDeletePaul's mind works very mysteriously. Maybe he wanted to get caught? He said that he hates everyone, including himself, after all?
ReplyDeleteGood point about the body armour. Surely police men would wear them in a situation like that! And you are right, Katie is totally mental. I can see her continuing in some way what Paul was doing "out of love".

ReplyDeleteYessss!!! Can we make this happen!?!? He would be brilliant.
