I went with "good". I liked the cinematography, the plot twist/concept, and the familiarity to other science fictions works (like River from Firefly or something a little like Michael Bay's The Island or The Manhattan Project). Anyways not a bad start. Just would like to a feel a little more for the characters...On with part two tomorrow!
i was wondering if i should watch this or not..so far it doesnt look like too many people have watched it..let me know what some of you guys think as it takes me forever sometimes to watch things..
*****SPOILERS*****************SPOILERS******************SPOILERS****************SPOILERS*********** So what we have is "Big Brother" (minus Julie Chen), Bio - Dome (minus Pauly Shore), and Star Trek TNG's "Holo Deck" (retro - grade)................alright SyFy, let's where you're going with this. 4 THE TRIP TO BE WORTH IT, I am Nobody!!!
It was good enough to watch the rest of the series. I can't wait to see the guys reaction( that got sucked out of the air vent ) if he doesn't get pissed off for essentially feeling like a lab rat i'll be pissed!
I'll prob watch the first hour and catch the end later, because I don't want to miss POI either--especially because it's the beginning of a 3 arc episode, which makes me wonder if it will sadly parallel Carter's from last season??!
It was OK. I thought the writing was a little weak in parts, which made the acting seem really unnatural. The lack of scientific accuracy had my husband about ready to pull the plug--the twist helped explain that so he's back on board. Plus it was too much Soap Opera, not enough Sci-Fi. Overall, if not for the twist I don't know if we would be sticking around for the rest. Don't know if I'll hope for a second season or not, we'll have to see how the rest plays out.
I often go to that kind of twist when watching a lot of sci-fi, but this was the one time I didn't. But I'm also not one to hate all predictability. I care more about the story and the way this twist will effect everyone and/or if they will attempt to put even more twists in it.
I was kind wondering if that was the point though, because I thought the acting "on earth" was more natural in comparison, which made me wonder if characters on Ascension were intentionally "brought up" that way--to make them feel[to themselves and the viewers] empty, hollow, like robots just waking up????
I have to side with those comments that the production design and photography are wonderful, but the "twist" was way to easy. I guessed it about 30 minutes into the pilot episode. I'm kinda liking what they're doing with the characters--with the have/have nots all on the same ship--and of course the bold sexuality (for broadcast cable) will keep fanboys watching.
The weakness, is in the central concept of people on a space ship, and are they really in space or not. It's being used in a couple of upcoming movies, most notably "400 Days" with Arrow cast members Brandon Routh and Caity Lotz. It seems like in Hollywood somebody gets an "idea" and mentions it at a pitch, and soon every pitch has that same idea. So much for originality and creativity.
Still, since Ascension is just three episodes, I'll watch--especially since it has Tricia Heifer!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
