About the Author - Lisa Macklem
I do interviews and write articles for the site in addition to reviewing a number of shows, including Supernatural, Arrow, Agents of Shield, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Forever, Defiance, Bitten, Glee, and a few others! Highlights of this past year include covering San Diego Comic Con as press and a set visit to Bitten. When I'm not writing about television shows, I'm often writing about entertainment and media law in my capacity as a legal scholar. I also work in theatre when the opportunity arises. I'm an avid runner and rider, currently training in dressage.
I would also add all the scenes in which Cas is getting reamed by Claire for the shit he pulled.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Jimmy being dead is such bullshit.
...It doesn't contradict past canon. Like, at all. At the end of season 4, in the episode Lucifer Rising, Cas was blown apart by Raphael. Jimmy's soul was already in the process of dying in the final two episodes of that season, so it's safe to assume that when the body was destroyed, he went to heaven. The cast and crew have confirmed this on multiple occasions in panels at conventions and in interviews. When God resurrected Cas, he obviously had to give him a body, so he recreated Jimmy's body and let Cas reside in it - however, Jimmy's soul was no longer present. Why should it be? So the body was fully Cas's now, as disturbing as that sounds.
ReplyDeleteIf Jimmy had been alive all these years, than there would be major consent issues with some of the things Cas has done (i.e. have sex, kill everyone, etc). Also, considering Cas was human in season 9 (and was the only angel to be so), there's absolutely no way Jimmy could still have been around. A human can't possess another human's body; that doesn't make sense.
And yeah, it was cool that Claire finally put him in his place, but...I feel like there's not much he can do about it. Only two episodes after they left Claire did Jimmy die and the body became Cas's, so what was he supposed to do, just go back to heaven and dump the meatsuit at her house for her to bury? No, obviously not. And yeah, it was sad that she prayed to him, but it's not like he could randomly show up at her house and tell her that all her prayers were useless, as her father was dead and in heaven.
The only thing he could have, and SHOULD have done, was make sure she received proper care. He should have looked out for her all these years - maybe not directly, with her knowledge, but in some way, shape, or form. That's what he was responsible for.
And I don't know where you've been, but the shippers have known about Jimmy's status for years. Like, YEARS. I inferred that Jimmy was dead the second season 5 started. Most people are just happy it's been textually confirmed now, as opposed to fandom speculation.
"My Bloody Valentine" - Castiel specifically mentions Jimmy's taste for red meat has been touched by Famine, later in the episode Famine tells Dean that "hunger doesn't just come from the body, it also comes from the soul," which would conclude that Jimmy's soul was brought back with his body.
ReplyDelete"The Third Man" - Castiel mentions that he spent a year as a "multidimensional wavelength of celestial intent," meaning he left his vessel. How can he gain consent to reenter an empty vessel?
A human can't posses another humans body? There's ghost possession, let's not forget Sam Winchester at one point had himself, an angel and a demon in his body at the same time. So that shoots down the idea that two human souls or whatever can't occupy the same body.
That's the point, now that it is texually confirmed, they will be extra obnoxious about it.
Though I loved the John friggin' Winchester story, it was all about the murder and mayhem for me. I just wish we'd seen more of the action.
ReplyDeleteThe final scene!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree. I like how it alternated between the dream and reality. That was a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteI liked the scene of Dean's dream.
ReplyDeleteI didn't choose the "Dean's dream becomes a reality" scene b/c we didn't actually see it. I would have liked to see Dean go off on those guys.
There is no possible way Jimmy could still be alive though.
ReplyDeleteHe was blown up in S5. His entire body exploded, and he remained dead for at least 10-15 minutes. God restored Castiel, not Jimmy. Why would God restore Jimmy to just suffer more from Castiel's possession?
Plus, Castiel exploded into black good in S7. Cas consumed thousands of souls. There's no way Jimmy was still around at that time.
I agree w/you that they implied Jimmy was still around in S5, but I think he died for sure when Lucifer exploded him. Castiel told Dean that God brought "him" back. I believe he was just referring to himself, not Jimmy too.
ReplyDeleteGod's kinda a dick on this show, so why wouldn't he bring Jimmy back. Still doesn't explain how an angel can walk around in an empty vessel.
ReplyDeleteWell, I pretty much assumed Jimmy died back in S5 when he exploded, and Castiel said God brought "him" back. I believe God just brought Castiel back to the form/appearance he had been using. What we see after S5 is all Castiel.
ReplyDeleteBut still leaves the whole fighting as a"wavelength of celestial intent" plot hole. Because that would mean he left his body, and if the vessel is empty how was he able to get back in it?
ReplyDeleteAhhhh . . . . you're talking about when Cas goes to Heaven? Well, we've seen "Heaven," and it looks like the angels remain in their vessels when there. Haha!
ReplyDeleteYou are raising a valid point. That said, I still don't think it is possible for Jimmy to be alive. While it may not make sense how Cas can go to Heaven but then return to Jimmy's vessel, it does make complete sense for Jimmy to be dead and gone at this point.
I was debating back and forth between the dream and the end scene, but didn't want to include both... so I'm very happy you added it here!
ReplyDeleteI'm specifically talking about in season 6 when Cas tells the brothers he was fighting the past year as a "multidimensional wavelength of celestial intent."
ReplyDeleteI liked all the scenes except the ones between cas and Claire.
ReplyDeleteMaybe: Dean's dream becomes a reality. John Friggin' Winchester. Sam brings Dean grilled cheese. I love Sam worried about Dean!!! :´D ♥
