So, seemingly Root will die. The other three main characters (excluding Fusco, because they won't kill him and break the link to NYPD and the battle against Samaritan isn't his fight) are all shown to be shot and rule is that the characters shown getting shot, tortured etc don't die and the character not appearing to be in severe danger ends up dying (see: The Crossing promo - Fusco looked a goner and then Carer died).
Yeah, that makes sense. But Shaw would be dying to help the Machine, which is trying to help everyone. So maybe Root wouldn't be able to see past that?
She explicitly stated to Finch back in Prophets that even if they win, there's no way everyone make it out alive. It's an accepted reality from her POV.
Bear is the only one the creators told expressis verbis safe. Regarding the bet: I'm inclined to agree with the "always the one who wasn't shown in danger", which means Root. Which would be a very sad turn, not only because I think Amy Acker is great, but IMHO Root is the most interesting character.
She has the most potential because she can be turned into everything: can be a disillusioned villain, a heroic saviour, an ally who turns against her former friends because she wants to protect her God - none of the other characters has so many different and plausible potentional storylines.
They wouldn't let such potential go to waste. All of that character development over four seasons for a mid-season shocker would be... unfortunate.
Shaw, while has had her fair share of growth, is certainly the least in terms of that. Doesn't mean she isn't revered by the fanbase. Her death would hit just as hard to many. An acceptable loss too as her role is, more often than not, restrained to firefights.
I agree with this and from storyline POV I would also pick Shaw. She is the least established, in this season she hasn't really developed at all, her role is usually to backup Reese (or do things what Reese could do as well). Should I need to choose between her and Root I would keep Root without any hesitation, but it's not me who write the show.
I think it will be Root, I can't see them killing Reese or Finch, and like you said if they killed of Fusco there link with the police department would be gone. (Also I don't want him to die).
It's not Root. Martine's gun goes off behind Root and unless Martine suddenly can't hear Samaritan, Root gets shot too, it's just not as explicit as everyone else. Plus, Amy has been filming as Root up to 4.15, she's not dying, at least not in this episode.
Reese and Finch won't die. Promos won't give away the obvious looking deaths.
I think Shaw or Root will bite the bullet before the end of this trilogy. They've both, in their own way, have played their "parts" and there's not really much more they can do, imo. And with that being said, I hope POI introduces a new female protagonist sometime soon too.
I doubt Samaritan would kill Root. Like it or not she's their only link to the Machine, so they need her alive. (Injured severely? That could happen, but she can't die yet.) Shaw is hard to pin down but I don't think her story is over yet. Plus, why would they show her get shot/blown up in a promo and then have her die from it? That's not something you spoil.
My money's on Fusco. He's part of the operation in the promo and he is the only one that doesn't get shot or blown up. Oh and he doesn't serve a purpose anymore (John can be the link to NYPD).
Well, a poll would be great about who will bite the dust!
I love this show!! Does anyone know of any good podcasts that are dedicated just to PoI? I have listened to the Podcast of Interest and Golden Spiral Media's Person of Interest podcast which are both OK.
I think Shaw still has more story to be told. If Root dies, Shaw would parallel Reese from last season's trilogy episode arc--in which she continues to Shadow Reese and put them in the same boat--which could be the point, if they are meant to be each other's final love intrests. There also could be a revenge plot for Shaw too, if Martine is responsible and/or if Martine also survives...
Sarah looks pregnant to me so it makes me wonder if Shaw's the one who might not get out alive. On the other hand they could just go on with the oversized coats or hide her behind big guns ;) I don't want anyone of them to die for heaven's sake...
I saw some posts on tumblr saying that Sarah Shahi is pregnant and there is quite a bit of speculation that Shaw will die or at the very least end up gravely injured. Based on some filming spoilers (4x13, 4x15), we can safely discount all the other characters. That leaves Shaw. Any idea if Sarah Shahi has been seen filming beyond 4x12?
I always found Shaw's story to be meant to be a mysterious and shadowy tale, so to me, I think her story is close to being finished. To each their own I suppose.
And I don't see Martine surviving this trilogy either. And I figure Reese will be the one to kill her as it was her that gave Reese the "gun finger".
This is so not okay. Seriously...every member of Team Machine gets shot! Only relief is that Bear is no where to be seen meaning he is still safe in their underground lair? Way to ruin Christmas!
Well the promo makes it appear that two of the boys might be down, especially Reese! If Martine would kill Root and be responsible for nearly killing Reese, I could see Shaw still be the one to hunt down Martine---of course it could work the other way too should Martine kill Shaw -- what that might do to Root would also be interesting...
Can't wait to see this, even though I'm so scared we're gonna loose one of our girls!
I also had some thoughts. I'm wondering if the Government is going to try and shut Samaritan down (episode title: Control, Alt, Del) and/or if there will be "a blackout" since we have that major Revolution parallel with Root and this Kid with Aaron Pittman and and "Kevin" (manifestation of the Nanites/also AI)???
But I also noticed that another episode title will be "Q&A" --this is also an Alias title and there have been quite a few Alias references lately too such as "Double Agent" themes and the name Lambert...
In The Alias episode Q&A, Sydney is taken before an FBI hearing and considered a threat, because of "The Prophecy" and she ends up proving the Prophecy false by going against some if it's wording by going to Mt. Subaso. ---additionally by keeping her captive, her cover at SD-6 was almost blown! (and there is a parallel with Sydney driving her car into the water that is similar to scene with Charlie Pace and Desmond in the FS in LOST)
I don't know if it will relate to the Alias episode in any way, but I'm thinking maybe there is going to be a panel of judges/someone is in custody, someone else is still undercover, and/or maybe the metaphysical conversations POI has been starting to have is actually going somewhere....
Well I DO believe, a second character will be presumed to be dead but missing. The episode after the trilogy is titled "M.I.A.". Who knows, maybe Shaw will go underground to hunt down Martine if Root is killed.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
What.... the....
ReplyDeleteI hate that CBS released this. Makes the wait to January 6th even longer.
Finch, Reese, and Shaw getting shot is NOT OKAY. HOLY HELL, THIS PROMO ALMOST GAVE ME A HEART ATTACK. The war has officially begun.
ReplyDeleteIn all of the craziness of this promo, they even managed to show John with a grenade. What is he going to blow up next?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait!
Shit just got real!
ReplyDeleteholy shit ,i have a feeling some one is gonna go down in this trilogy
ReplyDeletemy money is on shaw.
So, seemingly Root will die. ReplyDeleteMy money's on Shaw biting it.
ReplyDeleteScarface was shown to be beaten up in the promos of 409. AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED.
ReplyDeleteTrue. But that doesn't usually happen. And they're not gonna kill 3 characters. My money is on Root 100%.
ReplyDeleteIf we're talking about characters not in any danger.... WHAT IF IT'S BEAR?!
ReplyDeletei m also placing my bet on root.
ReplyDeletecuz i think root death will push machine to fight back
that will be cruel.
ReplyDeleteWhich is THE POINT.
ReplyDeleteNo. Bear cannot die.
ReplyDeleteYep, that'd make a lot of sense. Shaw's death just puts Root on a revenge path.
ReplyDelete"We all die in the end."
ReplyDeleteNot Bear. ANYONE* BUT BEAR!
ReplyDelete*By anyone, I do mean anyone outside of the following: Reese, Finch, Shaw, Root, Fusco.
Or puts her on a crisis of faith with her god. Which fits with the whole "Does a benevolent AI truly care about everyone?"
ReplyDeleteYeah, that makes sense. But Shaw would be dying to help the Machine, which is trying to help everyone. So maybe Root wouldn't be able to see past that?
ReplyDeleteShe explicitly stated to Finch back in Prophets that even if they win, there's no way everyone make it out alive. It's an accepted reality from her POV.
ReplyDeleteYep. So I don't think she'd hate the Machine for Shaw dying. She'd be upset, but she's accepted this as a likely outcome.
ReplyDelete(Greer voice) "Precisely".
ReplyDeleteBear dying could totally unleash Shaw as well.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but I doubt they'd do it. I think they'd get more fan backlash than when they killed Carter.
ReplyDeleteThey kill off characters because they care. With fan backlash, they could care LESS.
ReplyDeleteTrue. I really can't see them killing a dog though.
ReplyDeleteYeah, me too. I'm Just yanking chains here. ;)
ReplyDeleteBear is the only one the creators told expressis verbis safe. Regarding the bet: I'm inclined to agree with the "always the one who wasn't shown in danger", which means Root. At around .10, you see Martine and a whole bunch of guys firing right into Root's back. I don't see how she could survive that.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this and from storyline POV I would also pick Shaw. She is the least established, in this season she hasn't really developed at all, her role is usually to backup Reese (or do things what Reese could do as well). ReplyDeleteNO, no, no!!! Dammit!!! . I will be just here in a corner rocking myself in a fetal position.
ReplyDeleteIt's not Root. Martine's gun goes off behind Root and unless Martine suddenly can't hear Samaritan, Root gets shot too, it's just not as explicit as everyone else. Plus, Amy has been filming as Root up to 4.15, she's not dying, at least not in this episode.
ReplyDeleteOh the anxiety! Nexium anyone?
ReplyDeleteI was refraining from saying the 415 thing, to avoid spoilers. But thanks. Feel a lot better. :D
ReplyDeleteReese and Finch won't die. Promos won't give away the obvious looking deaths.
ReplyDeleteI think Shaw or Root will bite the bullet before the end of this trilogy. They've both, in their own way, have played their "parts" and there's not really much more they can do, imo. And with that being said, I hope POI introduces a new female protagonist sometime soon too.
Well, me and Wonderboy were seen hanging out in episode 13 with that bade wit da booty from Point of Origin.
ReplyDeleteI doubt Samaritan would kill Root.
ReplyDeletehow about we're totally original, make the difference and NOBODY DIES?
ReplyDeleteMy money's on Fusco. He's part of the operation in the promo and he is the only one that doesn't get shot or blown up. Oh and he doesn't serve a purpose anymore (John can be the link to NYPD).
ReplyDeleteWell, a poll would be great about who will bite the dust!
I love this show!! Does anyone know of any good podcasts that are dedicated just to PoI? I have listened to the Podcast of Interest and Golden Spiral Media's Person of Interest podcast which are both OK.
ReplyDeleteIf somebody is to indeed die i agree my money is on Root Saving Shaw.
ReplyDeleteIKR ?? Normally if the episode isnt next week they dont even release the promo
ReplyDeleteWill anyone get out alive? No. It's their clever way of canceling the series.
ReplyDeleteIf I have to choose my preference of who gets killed - Shaw. My best guess - Root. Perhaps then Finch can be connected directly to the machine.
holly SHI@#$$%%)*&^*^ too cruel to wait 2 weeks
ReplyDeleteCBS releases this about three weeks before the episode will air.
ReplyDeleteEvil.
So basically everyone gets shot! AAAA! I can't believe we have to wait so long!
ReplyDeleteI think Shaw still has more story to be told.
ReplyDeleteThe mantle could get passed to Shaw or an entirely new character...
ReplyDeleteThey can't kill a dog off, right??
ReplyDeleteoh, no!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait.
ReplyDeleteSarah looks pregnant to me so it makes me wonder if Shaw's the one who might not get out alive. On the other hand they could just go on with the oversized coats or hide her behind big guns ;) I don't want anyone of them to die for heaven's sake...

ReplyDeleteBetter than having no promo at all for 2 weeks and no episode to air the promo last week.
ReplyDeleteBut wouldn't killing Root therefore be beneficial to Samaritan? Particularly if it wants to destroy The Machine.
ReplyDeleteso Root is officially one of the good guys if you're worried about her
ReplyDeleteI know it's unlikely, but does anyone know what the music is called? I mean, if there is more than the few seconds they used. :)
ReplyDeleteI always found Shaw's story to be meant to be a mysterious and shadowy tale, so to me, I think her story is close to being finished. To each their own I suppose.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't see Martine surviving this trilogy either. And I figure Reese will be the one to kill her as it was her that gave Reese the "gun finger".
Why would they want a link when Samaritan wants to destroy the Machine?
ReplyDeleteThis is so not okay. Seriously...every member of Team Machine gets shot! Only relief is that Bear is no where to be seen meaning he is still safe in their underground lair? Way to ruin Christmas!
ReplyDeleteWell the promo makes it appear that two of the boys might be down, especially Reese! If Martine would kill Root and be responsible for nearly killing Reese, I could see Shaw still be the one to hunt down Martine---of course it could work the other way too should Martine kill Shaw -- what that might do to Root would also be interesting...
ReplyDeleteI guess in few weeks we'll see how it goes :)
Can't wait to see this, even though I'm so scared we're gonna loose one of our girls!

ReplyDeleteYou cannot die now. You need to live to see the episode, lol.
ReplyDeleteGood point! Well I think I somehow survived the initial promo shock.. lol
ReplyDelete
