Fox is closing a deal with Ryan Reynolds for a feature on Deadpool, the character he originated in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The film, which Fox is making in conjunction with Marvel Studios, is being directed by Tim Miller, who has done strong visual effects work through his VFX house Blur Films.
Miller has been developing the film for several years, from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with Lauren Shuler Donner producing. Reynolds and other cast have posted photos of Deadpool on Twitter, so clearly this is going. Production begins in March.

Ryan is really passionate about Deadpool and I believe he can pull him off at least physically.
ReplyDeleteDon't bash him for Origins, it wasn't his fault
ReplyDeletehe has the cockyness, the physique and the passion for this project. The man PUSHED for this project to happen since 08 and I've got to give him props because the test-footage featuring his voice is BRILLIANT!

I have been waiting for this! Finally!
ReplyDeleteI'm just so happy that this movie is finally happening and Ryan is reprising his role! That test footage was all kinds of awesome.
ReplyDeleteAfter GL, I'd rather not see this guy in another superhero movie ever.
ReplyDeleteUgh.
ReplyDeleteI know it's not the most popular opinion but: YAY!!
ReplyDeleterumor has it that Reynolds might just provide the voice acting and motion capture for a CG deadpool model.
ReplyDeleteAlso...Green Lantern was a mess as a production, I can't fault Reynolds or Mark Strong for a shitty movie
if they manage to do it on a low budget level we might get an R cut
ReplyDeleteI actually didn't mind Mark Strong in that movie. Considering the limitations of the material, he did alright. As for Reynolds, there isn't anyone who has been able to convince me that the "Ryan Reynolds secret to acting" is to play a different variation of the same character in every single film he's in.
ReplyDeleteI'm not trying to convince you of that, he's a pretty mediocore actor that always plays a college frat boy with a hoacky sense of humor. But that's exactly what we need for Deadpool.
ReplyDeleteJust watch the test footage I posted above, that was actually shot the way the movie is supposed to happen.
Unlike Dr. Strange (since we have a simultanious discussion about a similar thing it seems) we don't need a good actor as Deadpool, only one that does crazy pretty well. And since we can't get Nolan North for some reason I'm willing to settle for Reynolds who I have to give credit for actually making this happen
I think Reynolds personally pushing so hard for this film must be a major factor in why he's headlining it. If it weren't, I can't see DC doubling down on this guy.
ReplyDeleteI actually can, FOX is...desperate to keep up with the hero flicks. X-Men DoFP had a HUGE effort put into it and was a risky thing overall (it actually had a budget close to Camerons Avatar).
ReplyDeleteAnd given Reynolds being the only thing people were fine with after X-Men Origins they probably won't risk another recast
btw. Taylor Kitsch has been recast with Channing Tatum as Gambit.
You still wanna bet that FOX isn't desperate with its casting choices? ;)
Now that makes sense to me. FOX and DC are seemingly initiating some sort of superhero franchise arms race with Marvel and they need a lot of warm bodies in front of their cameras. So, if they feel Ryan Reynolds isn't a casting choice they have to worry about then I'm sure they're glad to rubber stamp it and move on to the next film.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of taking guys who did a not-so-good job in one superhero movie and giving them another one.
ReplyDeletethat's probably exactly it. They're currently recasting Jean Grey and Cyclops as well with younger actors.
ReplyDeleteI don't trust FOX with casting heroes anyway simply because of their "popularity over talent" policy.
And let's not forget Sony with Spiderman and Fantastic 4. I'm still not over the casting of Andrew Garfield and the direction these movies took
I'm currently doing my best to pretend that the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot doesn't exist. I wasn't pleased with the first go at it but this next attempt may be reviled by fans even more than Green Lantern and Daredevil were.
ReplyDeletethey're turning Dr. Doom into a hacker NOT named Victor Van Doom without a mask
ReplyDeleteSimply reading that makes me feel like someone just punched my childhood.
ReplyDelete"KEBBELL: He’s Victor Domashev, not Victor Von Doom in our story. And I’m sure I’ll be sent to jail for telling you that. The Doom in ours—I’m a programmer. Very anti-social programmer. And on blogging sites I’m “Doom”.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I just threw up in my mouth a little. The only good think I can see coming from this is that this film will torpedo the value of this franchise so much that maybe Marvel Studios can by back the rights fairly cheap.
ReplyDeleteI truly hope that both TASM 3 and F4 crash and burn so much that the rights are SO damn cheap that Sony will be begging Marvel to take the rights back
ReplyDeleteI was a kid when the first Spiderman flick came out and I liked the original F4 one, being 20 I obviously have some pink goggles on but hell these latest reboots just hurt
I have to share that sentiment. Only when every Sony attempt at Superhero movies crashes and burns to the ground and Spidey goes back where he belongs, will balance be restored in the universe. Didn't know that bit about what the F4 reboot was doing to Doom. Made my finely crafted beer sour in my mouth. I've been blocking out all news about that upcoming travesty. Thanks for that info... I think.
ReplyDelete20? Damn. I was 22 when the first Spiderman movie hit. Thanks for reminding me how bloody old I am, lol.
I don't know how to feel about this one. Ryan Reynolds could pull it off, but he will have to be dealing with a hell of a lot better writing than we got in the steaming pile called Origins. I can see him pulling of the humorous aspects of Deadpool. I would add that I'd prefer no 4th wall breaking as imo, most of the best Deadpool stories contained none. Gonna have to wait and see on this one, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad but true, Sony can't handle Spidey :(
ReplyDeleteNot without Raimi
Yeah, I'm a baby compared to a lot of posters here.
But don't worry, anyone with Joel McHale as his avatar is forever young in my book
