SYFY EXPLORES "KRYPTON" WITH WARNER HORIZON TELEVISION AND DC ENTERTAINMENT
ONE-HOUR DRAMA SERIES IN DEVELOPMENT, FROM EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS DAVID S. GOYER AND IAN GOLDBERG
NEW YORK - December 8, 2014 - Syfy and Warner Horizon Television announced today they are developing a one-hour drama series project Krypton, which will reveal a chapter of the DC Comics universe that has rarely been told.
Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This series follows The Man of Steel's grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.
Krypton is being executive produced by David S. Goyer (Constantine, Da Vinci's Demons, Man of Steel, The Dark Knight trilogy, upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time, FlashForward) for Warner Horizon Television.
Goldberg is writing the pilot teleplay, based on a story conceived by Goyer & Goldberg.

"Krypton takes place years before the Superman legend we know"
ReplyDeletesame issue as with Gotham....
I really didn't want this to be a thing.
ReplyDeleteWell at least only some villains can be forced in with Krypton. But yeah not looking forward to it.

"follows the Man of Steel's grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton"
ReplyDeleteSo, we'll have different mythologies: one at the big screen (Man Of Steel), one at CBS (Supergirl) and other at Syfy (Krypton).... way to go, DC. Way, to go...
So...it's Gotham In Space?
ReplyDeleteWB wont be happy until they have a DC show on every network I think.
Animal Planet - Animal Man
Crime and Investigation - The Question
Lifetime - Zatanna
Nickelodeon - Static Shock
Starz - Lobo
...maybe I shouldn't give them ideas...
I know, right it'll be so confusing and weird. Really man. It's three different superman related media. That has literally been done at least three times before. I get not wanting it to be made but that yeah so don't get. Also there's apparently a small, small chance of DC multiverse crossover in the future of different character iterations.
ReplyDeleteThere was a very brief moment where I didn't realize you were being sarcastic, and very angrily thought to myself, "What the hell is all that?!"
ReplyDeleteA question show would be sick. Also there was a cartoon Static Shock. And Lobo would be AMC and be awesome.
ReplyDeleteThis is Syfy, it won't get a second season. No one hates science fiction more than Syfy.
ReplyDeleteSee if it was just about Krypton and not some origin story and on cable or netflix I could maybe get behind it, but this no.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this?
ReplyDeleteNothing will ever beat Lost Girl, Continuum, and the number 1 series, Being Human (miss that show).
right? and it's supposed to be the hub of all sci-fi
ReplyDeleteI might keep this in mind...
ReplyDeleteThey've upped their production budget significantly, at least for a while.
ReplyDeleteSwamp Thing would of been a nice touch,or deadman...
ReplyDeleteI love Gotham, but I am not speaking as someone who gives a crap about Batman.
ReplyDeleteLOL not looking forward to this show at all.
ReplyDeleteBut couldn't it be because David S. Goyer is behind this, that it is meant to tie directly into Man of Steel mythos?
ReplyDeleteIf Syfy is getting into bed with DC I'd much rather them save Constantine if need be instead of do this. Also, why not develop something more obscure and cooler? The Superman mythos need a rest IMO, or at the very least, not three different variants of the same mythology. I fully support Syfy's decision to do their own comic property, but... I really don't want this to be it. :/
ReplyDeleteNot necessarily, since they [DC] didn't do anything tied to the movies so far.
ReplyDeleteMy point exactly. If they said "It's on different earths", I would just shut up.
ReplyDeleteUm...the script for Man of Steel was terrible, it it weren't for the casting it would have been unwatchable. So, not really on board with that guy doing Superman mythos, I can't imagine it being anything but maudlin and silly. Plus, on Krypton isn't everyone normal?
ReplyDeleteI still don't trust them much with them more or less becoming a reality tv show network, but I suppose they've started getting away from that.
ReplyDeleteSo no Kal El? :( And no yellow sun super powers? Just some random people fighting? No thank you!
ReplyDeleteI don't blame them for trying to do what appeared to be the popular thing. And Face Off isn't something I watch but what I've seen of it, it's certainly more enjoyable than typical competition shows. But NBC and Comcast are pumping a lot more money into the network now to try to fix its reputation. There was a really cool article with Syfy's programming head about it recently, it was Deadline, or THR, or maybe EW online. EW I'm pretty sure if you wanna Google it, it was pretty interesting. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is getting out of hand.
ReplyDeleteWhy do a prequel on Krypton? They were all douches before and up to the point where the planet exploded. Why not do a series about Superman himself as an adult in Metropolis. And no! The Man Of Steel film is so far from anything Superman that it's tragic. They need to bring Superman back to television the way he was back in the 70s ... before they started adding all this real life crap like marriage and babies and shit like that in the comics.
ReplyDeleteActually Syfy was already in bed with DC when Booster Gold was supposedly in development and ever since disappeared lol
ReplyDeleteThe amount of CGI this will require, wll have to get a huge budget to have something decent
ReplyDeleteAh multiverse does mean different earth dude. That's my point.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking as a man who loves Batman (my favourite superhero) I have a decent amount of problems with it. I like it overall though.
ReplyDeleteSyFy? Really? Well the CGI needs to be at BSG/SGU levels is all im saying but I might check this out. I haven't liked any other Superman Movie/Series but I always try them.
ReplyDeleteKrypton on Syfy, Supergirl on CBS...DC is pumping out TV shows left right and center.
ReplyDeleteI love sci-fi shows so I'll keep an eye on this one. Setting it on Krypton with a Red Sun actually makes it more appealing (to me) than Supergirl, since I'm really not a Superman fan.
Somebody saaaaave me.
ReplyDeleteJust when it sounded better they ruined it by making it SyFy.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't sound exciting at all TBH!
ReplyDeleteI guess Lois Lane won't be in :(
