Cicely Tyson has booked a role on the network's hit freshman drama from showrunner Pete Nowalk and executive producer Shonda Rhimes, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Details of Tyson's role are — as has become the rule in Shondaland — being kept under wraps. But the actress, who earned an Academy Award nomination for 1972's Sounder and took home Emmy wins for Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All and The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, will appear in one episode.
Also being kept close to the vest is the exact episode in which Tyson will appear. Murder, starring Golden Globe and SAG nominee Viola Davis, has six episodes remaining of its freshman run of 15, with Tyson expected to be in one around mid-February.
