Actually those are just rumours, It hasn't been confirmed, the BBC wants us to keep guessing til the christmas special and then we'll know her fate, so it could actually refer to a new companion.
Yeah, that's just what I wanted to say as well. However, I have a feeling she'll indeed still be around for (at least) the first half of series 9.
Maybe they'll introduce the new companion in the Christmas special and then have him/her around for the whole season, with Clara leaving at the halfway point? That way the new companion can be the apprentice from the title ;)
I'd imagine if they've got a title for next season's premiere already then Coleman is sticking around for a little while longer. If they were looking for a replacement things wouldn't be moving so quickly.
Orson Pink might not have even been Clara's great grandson.
Moffat explains in the new DWM: “I can think of several explanations, but the obvious one is that Orson comes from another branch of the family. He knows about Danny’s heroic sacrifice, because Clara got in touch with the Pink family after the events of Death in Heaven (because you would, wouldn’t you?), and told them what he did, and why. And she gave them the little soldier, as a keepsake of a great man and a great soldier – and because she knows the toy soldier has to remain in the Pink family line.
“Now all that strikes me as pretty inevitable – that’s what would have happened – but I’m not saying it’s right. Nothing is actual till it’s in the show. Knowing how the season would end, we were careful, in never to define exactly what the connection was.”
But they should solve it SOMEHOW. Actually it doesn't matter which story they use, it's just not elegant when they keep such loose ends. It almost suggest they don't know what to do - which could also be true. It's just sloppy.
From that Moffat quote, it sounds pretty likely they intend to address this later on, and that the loose end was left on purpose. (But yeah, it is also VERY possible Moffat is trolling!)
Moffat has reused ideas before. Amy's intro shared elements with "The Girl In The Fireplace", and the Heaven arc was conceptually similar with the Great Intelligence's plan in "The Bells of Saint John".
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Wow an episode title announcement already? That's much sooner than I thought we'd get one.
ReplyDeleteCould this refer to a possible new companion..?
ReplyDeleteNope, Jenna Coleman confirmed she decided to stay on the show for at least the first half of season 9.

Interesting, it sounds to me like Merlin might make an appearance.

ReplyDeleteShouldn't they solve the problem of her great-grandson? It could be useful if she stays for several episodes and leaves the show without loose ends.

Unless they've already secretly cast a new companion. Or, as the rumours have it, the new companion is already in the christmas special..
ReplyDeleteWould they really pull the same stunt twice? They already did that in Asylum of the Daleks.
