Atlantis - The Day of the Dead - Advance Preview + Dialogue Teasers
12 Dec 2014
Atlantis Reviews SSThe last action packed episode ended with Jason and Medea vanishing in a rock slide after Ariadne shot her step-mother. With all the characters now trapped underground in the ancient necropolis they must face an army of the undead as they battle for survival. Can Jason trust the mysterious Medea, and what will they learn about each other as they try to escape the labyrinth of caves in order to reunite with his friends?
It’s a gritty one this week, as you would expect in a walking undead inspired story there are jumps, scares and plenty of skirmishes ahead. Unfortunately the dark cave setting does tend to limit the scope of the conflict to a degree, which is a shame as up to now as I feel the show has been showing a great deal of improvement on this front. However I feel this is meant to be a character led episode, and regrettably it doesn’t quite pack the emotional punch in places that I wanted it to have.
Hercules and Pythagoras’ double act continues to grow throughout the story, providing the scant humour this week. I have been enjoying the recent dramatic turn in direction, but I know that I am not alone in missing the comedy that it used to have too. Some lighter moments would be a welcome change at times, and with Addy and Emms’ chemistry working so well here I am hoping they will bring that back in the future. There is some light at the end of the tunnel for Jason and Ariadne shippers though that does help to lift some of the darkness in the overall plot.
The Day of the Dead airs on Saturday 13th December at 8.25pm on BBC 1 and BBC 1 HD in the UK, and at 9pm on BBC America. Below are a few dialogue teasers to see you through until then. Don't forget to come back to vote in our poll after the episode and let us know what you thought.

I know you can't reveal much.
ReplyDeleteBut I'll admit this episode worries me because I'm such a huge Jason/Ariadne fan.
You did say there is light at the end of the tunnel for them.
But I've got to ask, is the advertised Medea/Jason kiss in this episode? And if so, is there at least a good reason for it?
Thanks!
I think that kiss happens in a woodland setting irrc? All of this episode takes place underground in the caves ;)
ReplyDeleteSo looking forward to this episode! I've never liked Jason and Ariadne "together", so I think it's awesome that they've given Jason a possible new love interest :-) I'm hoping they stick to the mythology
ReplyDeleteMedea is actually Jason's blood relative. That's incest.
ReplyDeleteWe don't know have enough information about her to claim incest! Yuk! For all we know they're hardly related at all.
ReplyDeleteThey are first cousins, she is Pasiphae's niece. That's not incest in the UK, or in the setting of the show, but it is in some places in the world.
ReplyDeleteluckily marrige between cousins were not uncommon in ancient Greece. So I'm still rooting for Jason and Medea :-)
