  1. Even by CW math "boy" isn't usually my first thought when I see Oliver, but okay.

  2. well Slade still call Oliver "kid" so this is not that different

  3. Compared to Ra's al Ghul Oliver is a fetus.

  4. But I feel like it's much more of a diss when Ra's al Ghul says it. It's as if, Oliver hasn't even come close to as much of a journey Ra's has gone through and Ra's calls 'em as he sees 'em.

  5. After The Flash, Arrow better surprise me.

  6. I was just kidding about Amell not looking boyish.

But really, Nable is like 10 years older than Amell.

    ReplyDelete
  7. You don't understand. Makes sense. Ra's al Ghul is over 600 years-old.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Why is he 600 years old?

I'm going to hate comic book logic aren't I?

  9. Lazarus Pits they heal the near-dead and restore age, vitality and can even increase speed and strength slightly.

  10. But don't those not exist in this show? I thought we were being "grounded"?

Plus, hasn't TVD taught us that death should mean something

    ReplyDelete
  11. I can imagine Vandal Savage saying the same to Ra's.

    ReplyDelete
  12. A) Grounded doesn't mean it can't happen. B) Mirakuru, metahumans, the Flash C)Not TVD. And lol death means nothing in that show (at least for the mains).

    ReplyDelete
  13. Not saying it can't happen, just that everything we've always been told was that Arrow only introduced fantasy stuff like Mirakuru to introduce the Flash and that they were going back to being grounded. What's the point of fighting if your enemies can never be defeated?

I also wasn't saying it is TVD. I'm saying shows like that should have taught us a lesson: The dead should stay dead. Meaning pits that bring you back to life aren't a very good idea.

  14. You misunderstand. Ra's can be killed he can be stopped. it's just very hard. He can be beat. I agree they should (why those Sara and Tommy theories bug me and just ask the second Robin Jason Todd- look it up its a really cool messed up story). No way they'd leave out the Pits though. Plus it's technically not fantasy based, it's actually scientific the chemicals are responsible for the rejuvenation. And there is life that can rebirth so too speak. So while I'm not saying it's for sure gonna happen, I'm pretty sure it will.

  15. Haaha, okay, that's "science fiction" then. :-)

I don't understand (or appreciate) comics, but if a guy "no prison can hold" won't stay dead, seems pretty hard to beat. I'm not relishing watching Team Arrow chop his body into little bits or setting it on fire or something. I like Flash, but for me, they can keep their running so fast you can travel through time, multiple incarnations of yourself, gorillas for bad guys comic silliness. I'd prefer Arrow not have things like pits that make you 43 but still a little chubby for 600 years.

  16. Basically Oliver needs to kill him. Cut his head off and bury it and keep his head for himself. That way he can ensure that even if the league could get his body he'll stay dead. And once it rots even the pit can't bring it fully back. That's a little insulting to comics, they're not silly.Basically try to care about the characters and you should be able to get used to and (maybe even like) the comic stuff. Ra's looks like that because he wants to.

  17. I believe it will be the fight between Ra's and Oliver will likely be look barry/Zoom or reverse flash, Christmas scene sad and happy, Some exciting unxexpected ending,

    ReplyDelete
  18. What did he say? "Return to Starling City. Teach Oliver Queen we're the ????? ones."

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, but it was some kind of Slade's pet name for him - until Slade went to the dark side. So "kid" has a different history. While "boy" is Ra's in genuine surprise (and maybe a bit disappointment because a "boy" isn't the great opponent he wants to have - does this make any sense?). He'll maybe fight a losing battle, but don't underestimate an Oliver Queen in "I'm protecting my city and those I love" mode, especially when there is no contingency plan...

lsbloom, I get what you mean. :)

  20. Not watching this.. not watching this.... give me strength for one more day..

  21. Teach Oliver Queen we only ask but once.

  22. Flash is a silly show. It can handle a certain level of humorous concepts--like a bad guy named Roy G Bivolo who gets a code name Rainbow Raider (it's like something out of Sesame Street). Arrow does not have a sense of humor about itself. So, for me, it has a much lower tolerance for silliness. And Oliver carrying around Ra's head is either hilariously silly or gruesome. Cupid was too comic-y silly (again for me) because if you started to take her seriously, then you also started to seriously wonder how these writers view women.

Sorry if "silly" or "cheesy" or "corny" seem insulting, they really are the most tactful words I can think of. Sorry, at heart I am just an English major and always will be.

And what is this "even Batman" concept? I don't understand the comic book readers view that Batman is like GOD, is he really that bada** in the comics? Because onscreen he's cool and everything, but the idea that he'd beat someone with actual superpowers is kinda absurd. He's just a normal guy with lots of toys.

  23. for TVD death is like a rehab centre .
every body goes in and out

  24. Again comics not silly. For example, the Joker beat the second Robin to death with a crowbar. Shot Batgirl in the spine and paralyzed her. Mia Dearden (second Speedy) has HIV because she was a hooker. Roy Harper got addicted to heroin and lost his arm. Superman was killed. Reverse Flash killed Iris and then was killed by Flash himself. So not silly, not anymore. Silly at times, maybe but rarely. Oh you have no idea about Batman. The man is not just some guy. He has plans on how to beat the Justice League. Has beaten Superman (though tech, kryptonite and martial arts). He isn't just some normal guy with toys. He is Batman. He may not be unstoppable, or the most powerful. But when he puts his mind to it, even Gods like Superman or Darkseid can be stopped. There's a reason criminals fear him more than Superman. I found Cupid both hilarious and hot. Roy G. Bivolo was a reference to the emotional colour spectrum of the lantern cores.

  25. I said keep the head, not carry it around that'd be ridiculous.

  26. Dude, I'm not trying have a referendum on comic books. Like I said, I just don't have an appreciation for them that doesn't mean that others don't or ought not. For me, you can't use rainbows ant then try to make it dramatic. Those sorts of juxtapositions are inane to me.

I'm still not sure why Batman would fight the Justice League or Superman or how in the name of anything he would win against Superman. That is just nerd/underdog wishfulfilment. But whatever, doesn't really matter. Batman doesn't exist here and in TV/movies he's a dumb playboy with toys (that he doesn't even make). No biggie. I can you comic book guys really like him. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. One thing don't call Batman dumb. He's not. In anything. Obviously, but everything you're saying just comes off incredibly dismissive and borderline insulting. You don't like comics okay but don't say things are silly, or nerd wish fulfillment when you haven't even taken the time to read one. It's incredibly ignorant.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Graydon, I'm trying to be nice. You are taking it really personally. And I think you are overreacting to the word silly. Silly isn't always bad, sometimes it is cute and funny and playful. There are lots of enjoyable things that have a silliness to them. It doesn't mean stupid.

I'm taking about the movie versions of Batman--and no one from Christian Bale to Michael Keaton played him as a genius. They played him as a driven, borderline psychotic, vigilante with the backstory of being a billionaire playboy who convincingly throws his life away with parties and women. He isn't a mastermind, he has conviction. Maybe in the comics that's different, I don't know. I'm not dismissing comics or you. But I am entitled to see them as I do, having read what I have read. I made a point to say sorry I don't appreciate them, but you should. I don't think my dislike should extend to anyone else, as I said above. But for ME, I dislike the tenor and execution of some aspects and storylines and dialogues in comics.
