Well, i had the same problem but the thing is... How do you make him a huge threat(He is way dangerous than Slade) if Oliver has been "surviving" 2 or 3 weeks of Ra's trying to kill him? He is a diferent figure and has to be showcased the same.
The director, Thor Fredeuntal, is quite good(by Network tv standarts): he directed Percy Jackson 2.
by drawing out the confronatation. Show Ra's in Starling, kill enemies even GA couldn't kill. Have this uneasy alliance that crumbles.
Ra's feels like....a bit like a character that they were way to quick to introduce. He had his first appearance for 30 seconds in episode 4. That was it, all we heard about him so far was that he's cruel and all but how are we supposed to take a villain serious that had his daughter beaten by Merlyn in 20 seconds (*twice) despite her bragging with her dad.
Yeah, well... You make all valid points. Nothing to add. This whole Season felt weird.
I think not having a serialized relevant flashback story(like Season 1 and 2) damaged the overall result too.
The thing is, i think all of what you're saying is gonna happen on episodes 3x14 to 3x23. Oliver will have to come out of hiding to help her friends defeat Brick(3x10-12), then we have the Canaries episode(3x13) and then Ra's will find out Ollie's still alive and will come after him.
I guess they wanted to set up Oliver emotionally while dragging everything for a couple of episodes. Not a fan, really. Even as much as i love character driven stories, this first half was weird.
Since the season is all about character I'd be more on team "Ra's tries to turn Ollie into a killer by training him to find an heir and Oliver having to find back to himself over the course of season 3" but I'm afraid that Arrows true "dark days" are over. The grit and serious storytelling has been exchanged for quirky dialogue and no villain developement. And I wouldn't call the first half character driven, it took characters and changed them from their persona, it's rewriting more than evolution.
The big bad arc has been handled poorly and all I can hope for is Arrow finding back to season 1 heights (yes, I consider that the best Arrow season) soon.
It's both sad and weird for me to consider a CW show to grow worse and worse each season. Usually it's a good first season, an even better second, a mediocore 3rd and a sh*tty 4th followed by an abomnible 5th.
Arrow has simply changed it's tone and style for more...well...easily likable stuff
Well, the idea is turning the show more Green Arrow each Season and tbh he is just a 2nd Tier Hero who's function is to be a lighter Batman-esque character. That's not secret.
I like Green Arrow and to be honest, i want the show a little more lighter. If i want a dark hero grounded tale i would watch my Nolan's Batman Trilogy.
What i meant by character driven is that there was no mistery, just characters reacting to other characters: be it Laurel to Sara's death; Oliver to Felicity's relationship to Ray Palmer; Diggle to his baby girl; Roy to the ghost of abandonment; Felicity to Oliver's emo stage... There wasn't a serialized threat like Brother Blood on Season 2, for example.
I liked Season 2 more than Season 1. Season 1 has been my least favourite so far.
But i do agree that all the villains this season were lame
IMO Arrow did the Nolan-y part really well and Felicity served as just enough to keep the show from drifitng into the "too dark" part of the DCU. But they overdid it with the light stuff...at least in my pov
That makes more sense, this reacting to "thaaaannnggsss" (to put it in Rick Grimes words) is sadly holding the show back without furthering it, an even like Saras death should have furthered the show, not put the brakes on like it partially did.
I for one can't wait for next weeks finale, hope things pick up after then.
... I'm still trying to pitch a "Play it Again, Dick" sized web series for "Birds of Prey" to theCWSeed...but they don't listen to us little people :P
THIS IS GOING TO BE INSANE HOLY WOWZERS!!!!!!!!!!!, now in all honety ra's al ghul doesn't look all that buff but i know the fight will be crazy and the cliffhanger will probably be literal
it would make sense for the story though, Sara turned Nyssa more compassionate (or at least seemed to do so) thus he killed her to prevent his heir from becoming too tainted. Now he attempts to turn Oliver to his side as some sort of revenge
true but we knew pretty much from his first appearance that Merlyn was a big bad and he was heavily featured in the entire run of season 1, meanwhile we had a substitude big bad in Brother Blood during Slades run. We don't even have that this season
Not really. No indication was given at all with Malcolm at first. Even then that's not anything more than we knew with Ra's. Still doesn't really take away my point though. Fair one about three comparison to Blood in two (but the character focus means I don't really care).
Nyssa was never Ra's true heir just a substitute. He's too sexist to name a woman. That's not really a good motivate for Ra's though. He would do it for the best candidate not revenge.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
God dammmmn !!
ReplyDeleteA crazy episode for arrow and the flash
next week is going to be insane !!
The Ra's casting is so unimpressive. Holy hell.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that this looks pretty good. Still think Nyssa is being written as too much of an idiot though.
OHHHHH S**T JUST GOT REAL!!!
ReplyDeleteOllie obviously won't die, but I do think he is gonna lose.
On Felicity's own words: "This is a duel with one of the most dangerous men who's ever walked the Earth".
ReplyDeleteMy body is so ready for this! :D

I guess this si the beggining of Ra's arc they are bulding it slowly and i like that.
ReplyDeleteAnother hour after the West coast we should have it!!! At least we better have it......
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS GOING TO BE INSANE HOLY WOWZERS!!!!!!!!!!!, now in all honety ra's al ghul doesn't look all that buff but i know the fight will be crazy and the cliffhanger will probably be literal
ReplyDeleteHoly crap!! I am so ready for this...
ReplyDeleteDude Ra's has appeared as much as Malcolm as Dar Archer in season 1 or Slade post island in season 2. I think it's fine.
ReplyDeleteI really hope he doesn't try to heir him, too Batman.

ReplyDeleteI'm just hoping that Ra`s will get some developement in the next few episodes. Simply because the character offers a lot
ReplyDeleteI imagine he'll get a good amount over the back half.
ReplyDeleteProbably not a ton during the Black Canary trilogy though.
