Award-winning actor and director David Schwimmer has signed on to star as Robert Kardashian in the FX miniseries American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.

Schwimmer will portray O.J. Simpson's confidant and attorney Kardashian, starring opposite Academy Award-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson and Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award nominated actress Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark.

American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson is written by Golden Globe-winning Executive Producers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin, the miniseries is a look at the O.J. Simpson trial told from the perspective of the lawyers. It explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness, and the LAPD's history with the city's African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.

Emmy and Golden Globe award winning producer and Emmy Award winning Director Ryan Murphy will direct the first episode. He joins award-winning producers Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Scott Alexander, Larry Karaszewski, Brad Falchuk, and Dante Di Loreto as Executive Producers. American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, is produced by FOX 21 Television Studios and FX Productions. Production begins early next year in Los Angeles.

David Schwimmer is a co-founder of Lookingglass Theatre, where he has acted in and directed many productions including Trust, Our Town, West, The Master and Margarita, The Jungle, Eye of the Beholder, The Odyssey, The Idiot, Of One Blood and Joy Gregory's adaptation of Studs Terkel's book Race. He starred in the premieres of D Girl and Turnaround in Los Angeles, Glimmer Brothers in Williamstown, Some Girls in London, the revival of The Caine Mutiny Court Martial On Broadway, and Detroit at Playwrights Horizons. Schwimmer most recently directed Sex with Strangers for the Second Stage Theatre.

Schwimmer's notable television and film credits include The Iceman, Nothing But the Truth, Madagascar I, II, & III, Duane Hopwood, Big Nothing, Band of Brothers, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Six Days Seven Nights, Apt Pupil, The Pallbearer and the hit comedy series Friends, for which he received an Emmy(R) Award nomination. His film and television directing includes Since You've Been Gone, Run, Fat Boy, Run, the HBO series Little Britain USA, and, Trust, starring Clive Owen, Catherine Keener and Viola Davis.

Schwimmer is represented by Gersh and attorney Michael Gendler of Gendler & Kelly, APC.

  1. So he's playing Kim Kardashian's father?

  2. Yes.

Robert Kardashian was Kourtney Mary, Kimberly "Kim" Noel, Khloe Alexandra, and Robert Arthur's father and Kristen Mary "Kris" Houghton, Kardashian Jenner's first husband.

  3. I can't imagine people were lining up for THAT role.

  4. I don't exactly have the pulse of the American public but I can't see people lining up to watch this series either. I don't get the appeal at all.

Ok, I was looking forward to this series until this news. David Schwimmer can be out acted by Keanu Reeves and Nick Cage on their worst days.

  6. More excited for the inevitable Casey Anthony season staring Sarah Paulson.

  7. Sarah is about 20+ years too old to play Casey

  8. The appeal is Sarah Paulson. But aside from that, I don't see this show lasting.

  9. Really? This is one of the most famous American crime and legal cases that people still talk about today.

  10. The extent to which people talk about it typically goes as far as "guilty" or "not guilty." That case and the people involved have been reduced to punchlines more than anything. Most people seeking a serious in-depth discussion on the topic would be loath to settle for a sensationalized version of it.

  11. Maybe so. And with Ryan Murphy at the helm this might end badly.

  12. It'll either be hamfisted Sarah Paulson, or Emma Roberts.

  13. Well, that's one way to do controversial casting.

Prediction: Schwimmer will give an alright performance, but will snag an Emmy nomination (as every actor does when they appear in a Ryan Murphy project) for his "transformation" (he'll darken his skin a bit and put on 20 pounds).
