Agents of SHIELD - Episode 2.10 - What They Become - Advance Preview

Dec 8, 2014

The last few months have been ones of re-invention for Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Originally conceived as an action/adventure series set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, everything the show was supposed to be changed when the creative team learned it wasn’t long before S.H.I.E.L.D. would be no more thanks to the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Since then, the program’s been looking for ways to be its own entity while still paying respect to its big screen cousins, and thanks to Tuesday’s mid-season finale, it seems to have done just that.

What makes the episode truly stand-out as, quite possibly, the best episode of the series to date is its dramatic chops. Often, when S.H.I.E.L.D. has to tackle something serious that could drastically alter the lives of the team, it does so with puns and jokes to deflect from the gravity of the situation. However, nearly all of that’s gone in “What They Become” because the nature of the situation is so serious that jokes would simply feel inappropriate, and it’s that willingness to break from childish norm that allows the series to truly carry some dramatic weight.

  1. No spoilers there but intriguing enough.

  2. Sounds like they're definitely going there with the Inhumans, if I had to guess.

More importantly, I'm hoping the nice payoff he refers to (about a story line left hanging since the premiere) is FitzSimmons. Really really want some movement there before March.

  4. Interesting, they don't often send out screeners for AOS but ABC/Marvel must be building the hype!

play in specific worlds before the films

Has to be Inhumans! Holy hell!

  5. I just need FitzSimmons to be okay again. That's my main goal for this episode.

  6. DAMN, that is some high praise. I'm even more hyped for the episode now, if that's at all possible.

I have to really agree with the reviewer that the creative team behind AoS has learned a LOT of lessons from Season 1 and deserves the credit. They've course-corrected in many important ways, resulting in a much stronger show.

  9. I was happy when they mencioned the Krees, made me believe that this is a huge teaser for the Inhumans. I said in one episode review that the city could be one part that appears in Avengers trailer, but now I don't know anymore.

  11. has to be right, i'm finally admitting it and they've basically done everything but said the word Inhuman

  12. Payoff is definitely Fitzsimmons which is f-ing killing me from the premiere (9 come quickly)
Inhumans is so going to happen the mcu needs a legit reason to bring the superhero registration act and AOS is a very cleverway of doing it the only actual secret is Skye's identity which I'm dying to find out.
Ahhhh waiting for the episode is actually physically hurting me!!

  14. I wanna read it, but at least for this episode I don't want any spoilers, is it spoiler free?

  15. It is spoiler free, its just the writers overall impression about the episodes. He says we get answers and there are moments which will blow fans minds but doesn't give any specific details, so it is safe to read.

  16. I just can't think what else it would be, please Kevin Feige did say we would be seeing the Inhumans sooner than we thought. So excited and I hope this brings some new fans to the show.
