Oliver has most votes. Seriously!! I voted for Merlyn. Oliver barely stood up to him in season 1 finale and he was badly beaten earlier. I thought about voting Nyssa as she fought both Merlyn and Oliver together this season but Oliver did almost stop her last season. I think it's a tie between Malcolm and Nyssa.
Oh that's tricky. Because are we thinking which character is supposed to be best at hand-to-hand combat OR which actor shows them doing it best on screen? I'm voting Oliver because Amell does the best on-screen representation. But I think character-wise, I might have to go with Slade.
Slade was Mirakuru'd up when he fought current Oliver and even when he was cured Oliver was not in his optimum condition yet still defeated him. Where as Nyssa and Malcolm gave him a great competition.
Slade repeatedly kicked Oliver's butt and the butts of many soldiers on the island in hand-to-hand combat. The cure seriously weakened everyone who got it (most of them just collapsed and laid there for a long long time). Slade's training and island fights were the most extensive hand-to-hand I can recall.
Nyssa doesn't go after anyone hand-to-hand and when she does I don't believe she packs much of a wallop (where my distinction about good on screen and supposed to be good gets confused, again). And Oliver's never actually tried to hurt Nyssa so that handicapping really take her out of contention.
I went back and worth between Malcolm and Slade, but Malcolm's so much of an archer that I picked Slade.
Oliver is not a major hand to hand fighter, If anything he is last on that list, think of it this way. Oliver Primary - Hand to Eye, Minor - Hand to Hand. Slade is the master Hand to Hand on this list. LOA got nothing on him.
So in comics is Deathstroke really superior to LoA? Also does he have any mirakuru substitute which gives him strength there? Sorry comics newbie here.
I have no idea what he knows or how good he'll be or who he trained, maybe he just runs the league and has other people do the teaching work--I dunno. I was just commenting that the fight with Ollie is supposed to be with swords isn't it?
I think Oliver is: when the guy enters the zone he is unstoppable! Sometimes he gets distracted or lacks of motivation, but he is certainly quite skilled and powerful. Slade is certainly the close second, and if Oliver comes as close as blinking he already won the match
But in island Oliver was not the trained ninja he is now. So it's rational Slade kicks his ass and all those soldiers there. Season 1 action on island was top notch. I don't remember but did we have a hand to hand combat between Slade and Billy Wintergreen in season 1?
Sure it was rational that he kicked his butt, Slade was Oliver's mentor. But the island is where we saw the most hand to hand with Slade and Yao Fei. Oliver didn't beat Slade hand to hand, he shot trick arrows at him and out thought him, which is more important but not part of the poll. Technically, Oliver beat Malcolm too. In the end, Oliver is always gonna win. Even against Ra's or Zod or anyone. He might get beat down once or twice, but come the finale, he'll fight back and win cause it's his name in the show title.
In Arrowverse. Billy Wintergreen was Slade's partner on the mission. But he turned traitor. He was the one who tortured Oliver with a knife in episode 1.05.
Billy Wintergreen was the guy who had Slade's same mask who turned against him. He also tortured Oliver by stabbing him at Fyer's camp. If I remember correctly Slade kills him later in the season.
I guess since it's a show about Oliver, he generally always wins every fight. But it's starting to get unrealistic since he's fighting people who have many more years of experience and training. Like Nyssa and Wildcat. Should he have been able to defeat them so easily? Probably not.
Oliver, hands down. No other choice. So far, we know he learned from true amazing fighters in the form of Yao Fei and Slade Wison, two choices I would have picked if Ollie wasn't listen in the poll. Merlyn is an extremely talented fighter as well, but he gets in the same pack alongside Nyssa and Sara that are League of Assassins related. I feel that Ollie has been taught much more than any League member.
I don't think Ra's trained Sara, he didn't seem too fond of her. I don't think he saw her as very important overall (sorry, Nyssa!)He didn't train Merlyn either. In the episode "The League of Assassins," Al Ow-Al (the man who is after Sara) says that he trained Merlyn. We don't know if Ra's trained Nyssa but since she is his heir, it seems likely he was involved in her training in some way.
1) Ra's al Ghul (Ols gonna get his ass kicked so hard...) 2) Merlyn 3) Nyssa 4) Sara 5) Slade(I think the Mirakuru made him quite reckless, but he's still better than Oliver). 6) Wildcat 7) Oliver 8) Diggle 9) Roy
Nyssa. One of the best scenes that illustrates her skill as a hand to hand fighter is actually a deleted scene from "Heir to the Demon" in which Roy tries to fight her and loses. This is while Roy is hopped up on mirakuru too. Nyssa seems to be able to fight hand to hand (and with many different weapons.)
Yeah, I think it's fan loyalty that is making Oliver win by a landslide. Merlyn beat him 2 out of 3 times. Oliver and Nyssa also seem pretty evenly matched even though Ollie beat her the first time. It's hard to judge with Slade because I think his loss to Oliver in the S2 finale had a lot to do with being out of practice. He had gotten overly used to relying on Mirakuru strength. If they have a rematch I think he might fare better the second time.
In the comics, Deathstroke was not as super strong as his Arrow counterpart, but due to military experimentation he did have enhanced strength, endurance and senses that put him at the top tier of DC Comics' top hand-to-hand combatants.
I choose Merlyn. He's beaten Oliver twice in a row. After that I'd have Ollie and Nyssa tied at second. Slade would be a close third, because as someone mentioned below he got to used to relying on brute mirakuru strength rather than just skill.
Deathstroke is pretty much on par with Ra's al ghul who is the leader of the LoA and is over 600 years old. He has had both his strength , senses and intellect enhanced he has a healing factor and is considered one of the top DC hand to hand fighters, he is batman's counterpart. Marvel also copied him and gave us Deadpool (Wade Wilson)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteVoted Nyssa of course! She's such an amazing and impressive warrior in any kind of fights! Then Malcom Merlyn and Oliver.
ReplyDeleteOther - Ra's Al Ghul
ReplyDeleteI know we haven't seen him fight yet,but he has appeared on the show so I'm counting him. Oliver is going to get his behind whupped.
Merlyn repeatedly bested Oliver. I just wonder how much more impressive whoever actually taught Merlyn.

ReplyDeleteYeah, but won't that be with a sword?
ReplyDeleteLike you said. Charachter-wise, Slade, and Merlyn. On screen, Oliver.
ReplyDeleteSlade was Mirakuru'd up when he fought current Oliver and even when he was cured Oliver was not in his optimum condition yet still defeated him. Where as Nyssa and Malcolm gave him a great competition.

From the list - Slade. Off of the list, Yao Fei.
ReplyDeleteHand to Hand - Slade, Hand to Eye - Ollie.

Ra's trained Nyssa, Merlyn and possibly Sara. I think he knows hand to hand as well.

ReplyDeleteslade hands down . after all he is the one who taught oli the moves
ReplyDeleteI don't know who Billy Wintergreen is...?

ReplyDeleteSlade. I would watch 2 straight hours of him going hand to hand with every member of the LoA just for fun.
ReplyDeleteBilly Wintergreen was the guy who had Slade's same mask who turned against him. He also tortured Oliver by stabbing him at Fyer's camp. If I remember correctly Slade kills him later in the season.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I had no recollection of his name, he didn't talk and we never saw his face. You shouldn't expect too much of my brain, it barely works.
ReplyDeleteIMO Hand-Hand:
ReplyDelete1) Slade
2) Nyssa
3) Merlyn
4) Oliver
5) Sara, although give her a Bo Staff and she runs on the top.
Slade SHOULD have been so much better than he was. I'm still disappointed. And I'm also disappointed that Nyssa isn't better too.
ReplyDeleteI guess since it's a show about Oliver, he generally always wins every fight. But it's starting to get unrealistic since he's fighting people who have many more years of experience and training. Like Nyssa and Wildcat. Should he have been able to defeat them so easily? Probably not.

ReplyDeleteFor me:
ReplyDelete1) Ra's al Ghul (Ols gonna get his ass kicked so hard...)
2) Merlyn
3) Nyssa
4) Sara
5) Slade(I think the Mirakuru made him quite reckless, but he's still better than Oliver).
6) Wildcat
7) Oliver
8) Diggle
9) Roy
