This week was the long awaited Tatia episode (at least for me). Once again there were two major plots. Esther tormented Elijah with his past love while holding him captive. Her plan seems to be to completely destroy his spirit. Davina and Klaus figure out Kaleb is actually Kol. Mikael kidnaps Cami and confronts Klaus once again. Klaus later finds out from Marcel and Hayley that Elijah’s in trouble.
Best confrontation: The confrontation between Klaus and Mikael was without a doubt my favorite moment this week. It reminded me so much of their fight on ‘The Vampire Diaries’. Then, Mikael taunted Klaus about the fact that there was no one on his side. And now he did the same thing, but this time about the fact that he did have people fighting for him. I loved how they all stuck up for him. Davina may have had ulterior motives, but still. I think it proves that he has changed since his early days on ‘The Vampire Diaries’. Especially in the way he thinks about family.
Best flashback: I have been looking forward to flashbacks with Tatia for a very long time. I always assumed they’d show the relationship between her, Elijah and Klaus. But I was pleasantly surprised to see that this episode wasn’t about another love triangle. They did show that Tatia left Klaus for Elijah, however the other flashbacks showed us how she died. According to what we saw, Tatia witnessed a massacre caused by Klaus and freaked. Elijah caught up with her, couldn’t control his bloodlust and killed her. Esther then took away his memories. I can’t help but wonder how much of what we saw was real. Esther showed us how easy it is for her to get in Elijah’s head. And she did say she was going to take everything away from them, make them so desperate that they’ll willingly choose to become witches. Making Elijah believe that he killed the (first) woman he loved would definitely accomplish that.
Best reunion: I love how easily Klaus recognizes his siblings. He was the one to recognize Finn, and now Kol. I still don’t quite understand Kol’s hostility towards his siblings. They weren’t on the best of terms when he died, but they had had worse disagreements. Plus I think we all still remember Klaus’ reaction to his death. Klaus is a lot calmer to Kol than he was to Finn though, so I have hope that Kol will switch sides.
Bravest character: Cami has guts, no one can deny that. I was so impressed with her this week. She knew how easy it was for Mikael to kill her, and yet she still continued to stand up to him. Even his own children have never stood up to him like this. She even faced him with the white oak stake, knowing she didn’t stand a chance.
What I need: There’s two things I’d like more of. The first is more backstory with Tatia. Only this time from Klaus’ perspective. We only saw a brief moment of his relationship with her, but the look on his face before he kissed her was so pure. I feel like we haven’t really seen this side of him, human and in love. And I want more. Another thing I want is flashbacks that revolve around the relationship between Mikael and Esther. We’ve barely seen anything of what their marriage was like. Mikael’s outburst to Cami about Klaus killing his wife showed that he does still love her on some level. Would he really care otherwise?
Best quotes:
Kol: “Well the jig is up. Hello brother.”
Mikael: “I hear music. And where there’s music, there’s food.”
Well that’s it for this week. I’m very proud of myself for getting this done in time. I still have so many shows to catch up with from this week and I was worried I’d be too distracted to write. Anyway, check in again next week for a new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of the episode.

I think I might do one of those "What do I need" pieces every week. I always wanna know more.
ReplyDeleteNone of those people were really fighting for Klaus though. Davina still wants to kill him - she only saved him because she's fighting for Marcel & Josh to live. Cami is the person who gave Mikael the WOS to begin with and took it from Klaus at the beginning of the episode, Koleb didn't seem interested in stopping Mikael at the start of the episode at all - he just kind of went along with Davina.
ReplyDeleteI think they should have given us Tatia back in Season 3 when they mentioned her. It felt too much like they retconned her storyline from what we were told on TVD. Elijah killing her doesn't make any sense to me. The reason Klaus had to kill Elena in Season 2 to break the cure was because Esther had killed Tatia to create the curse. With this retcon of Elijah killing Tatia and Esther only using some of her blood, why did Klaus have to drain Elena of all her blood to break the curse? It's a huge plot-hole now.
On Mikael/Esther: I know the flashbacks to their romanace and so fort will be in 2x06 so I'll wait until I see that episode to comment on them.
I really don't like how Cami's presence makes Klaus act like an idiot. The old Klaus would never have given the only weapon that could kill him to anyone much less a human. Cami is ruining Klaus' character in the same way that Hayley's presence ruins Elijah for me.
I am with you sister! I need to see the baby!
ReplyDeleteI think when she comes back it is going to be EPIC!
I detest Cami. I thought she was an idiot during the episode. Sorry Jamie, flove your review, but will respectfully disagree about Cami. She is a lost cause and a waste of my time as a viewers. The show ruined her character...pimping her out to Original family members. She had such potential in the beginning.
ReplyDeleteA lot of the characters seem to flip-flop to fit the plot, but Cami has really taken a hit in the past two episodes.
ReplyDeleteThey're pushing her way too hard and have given her Elena syndrome. Elena always forgives Damon (and Stefan) for everything he does and never holds him accountable for the things that does (killing Jeremy, raping Caroline, trying to kill her friends). Cami is now doing the same with Klaus and it's really off-putting to me - she keeps making excuses for him instead of holding him accountable for his actions.
I think whats worse, is Cami is an educated woman, with a master's degree....and uses her sex as a means to get ahead....by trading for information. Worse yet, is that she is a psychologist...and does not even have the most basic understanding of Klaus and his motivations....all she feels is sympathy and lust....I would hate to be a patient of hers....she doesn't even have the brains to get through the day let alone help anyone.
ReplyDeleteGreat review. Cami was amazing and so brave. I love how they all came together in the end. Cami was the only one without ulterior motives to stand up for Klaus and I think that is so important. The flashbacks, imo, were very weak.
ReplyDeleteNice review, but I'll respectfully agree to disagree on a few of your points. The whole Tatia flashback was silly and was something we needed back in s3 of TVD, not here. Out of the thousands of options the writers had to do a crossover and they pick another freaking doppelgänger? No thanks, I finally got away from them with leaving TVD. I don't want Nina on this show ever again.
ReplyDeleteAnd Cami... Ugh, that character is such wasted potential now. I literally WANT to like her but it seems impossible; her characterisation is all over the place and I don't feel any chemistry between her and Klaus (which is saying a lot as I find Joseph could have natural chemistry with a wall). For someone so educated and headstrong (at least in season one), she is really an idiot in season two so far. I also hate what her character is doing to Klaus these past few episodes.
I still love this show but am definitely worried about where the storyline could lead but I'll hold out hope.
i loved when klaus said because mikael hurt cami that's all the reason he needs to kill mikael and i'm getting really scared about the arc elijah is about to go on and i hate that i'm getting on the ship kol and davina and that he might actually leave his mother and join the good guys even though he's kol and he can't ever be trusted but i don't know, it also makes me gross not knowing how old kaleb is hopefully he's 17 too since cami called kaleb a kid
ReplyDeleteElijah and Haley all the way!! The last scene was hot. And I like Cami and Klaus
ReplyDeleteRebekah and Baby Hope are cloaked though so i don't know how esther finds them
ReplyDeleteCami it's less awful to me as at least she's helpful (unlike Elena) and tries to understand and curb Klaus' murderousness to an extent. Unlike Elena who wasn't ever really useful and enabled Damon most of the time. That and Klaus hasn't actually murdered anyone close to her unlike with Damon and Elena. Hell he even tried to help her with Kieran. That being said he did f*ck with her mind a lot.
ReplyDeleteShe understands him, she just sympathizes with him. Trying to apply morality to The Originals or The Vampire Diaries isn't a good idea. Since every character is guilty.
ReplyDeleteWhat are these thousands of crossover's options TO writers have? Matt, Liz or Damon? As much I don't like crossovers Tatia seemed to be the only storywise option. Too bad she turned out to be even worse than Elena.
ReplyDeleteSince it's a show about the original vampires, I think it's kinda expected that sooner or later, the show would bring in the very reason why they became what they are in the first place.
ReplyDeleteIt can't be that long now, I remember seeing BTS pictures of Claire and the baby. Pretty sure that still takes place before the hiatus
ReplyDeleteI agree they should have showed it in S3, they waited way too long. But it needed to be covered. So I guess, better late than never.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not saying I love Cami now, I've got a love/hate relationship going on there
Since Esther thinks Hope is dead, she probably won't go after her. I just fear that she'll go after Rebekah, there's been very little mention of her by Esther. I can't imagine she forgot her only daughter
ReplyDeleteSorry, you may have taken my post incorrectly. Yes I know Cami sympathizes with Klaus....it is after all part of my point. I am not applying morality to the show at all....my point has to do with the show's nonsensical character development and the fact that the show has deliberately destroyed Cami's character.
ReplyDeleteOn another note....Vampires can actually be quite moral....if you read some of the academic literature surrounding them, especially pieces from theologians. Dracula was quite the nobleman. Despite having renounced religion for the woman he loved.
I still don't believe that Elijah killed Tatia, and I wouldn't mind Elijah the one to kill her. Loved the last part but did not like how Elijah was being treated. Loved that Haley is worried about Elijah. I wished that Klaus would help Elijah sooner. It gets me that Elijah has always been there for Klaus and now its his turn to be there for him. I think that if Elijah would not have helped the wolves then Esther may not have got him. Getting a little nervous about this spell thing and when Elijah will get cured and how Esther finds out about Rebecca. It does show that Rebecca notices that Elijah is still acting different. I wonder how long this is going to act. I would not mind Elijah being a little dark but not to dark. Elijah is my favorite. And if Elijah did kill Tatia it was an accident and its all Esther fault and Klaus better not turn his back on him, after all the things that Elijah has done and he always stood by him. That was a 1000 years ago but even when he is cured that will still be in his mind and he will be afraid to get close to Haley because he is afraid he will hurt her It does show Elijah holding the baby. Being a Haley and Elijah fan I want them to take their time, but all this that is happening to Elijah I don't know if I can take it.
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or are there more people who can't stand the actress playing Esther. Don't know why but she just works on my nerves. One thing, Elijah should now he is dreaming right? Cause he can't feed on a hybrid can he? Maybe I got it wrong but thats what I thought. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm good for vampire literature. Most I'll ever maybe read is Bram Stoker's Dracula. But I was referring to TVD and TO not every piece of vampire fiction. In all honestly her character really isn't destroyed at least too me.
ReplyDeleteI think we can agree to disagree. Cami as a character has been destroyed by the writers....she was a strong female which has now been reduced to a sexual object. IMO setting the feminist angle back decades with her current iteration as a character.
ReplyDeleteTo me, its weird how folks can solely focus on the vampire without understanding its past....TO and TVD not the be all and end all...there is a great wide world out there.
I'm sorry but setting it back decades? That's extreme. As an ardent feminist I take offence to that. I really wouldn't call her sex object, given her lack of fan service, still having a personality and her actions toward Mikael. Is her opinion towards Klaus too forgiving? For sure but she doesn't exist solely for male romantic/sexual interest.
ReplyDeleteYes decades.
ReplyDeleteSorry you feel offended, that was not my intent.....I am a Post Modern Black Feminist, so for me....I take this stuff fairly seriously, and this character has spiked my ire at the powers that be.
The fact that we have a smart woman - very educated....trading on her body....I don't agree with this storyline or the way in which this character has evolved. Cami had such potential in the beginning....its sad that this potential has not been realized. It is a strong positive female trope in retrograde. Just because she yells at someone....does not make her powerful....at the end of the day, the pro and con list on this character leaves something to be desired.....
I am hopeful that there will be a new iteration of the character.
Overall, I have never been fond of the way that women characters on the show have been depicted for fans....Rebecca in some ways may be the exception.....
She's had sex with Marcel. She's not sleeping with her advisor. She isn't using her body. I agree the franchise hasn't been great with depicting women, but Cami is no where near the worst. That's Elena. Rebecca hasn't been great either sure she's badass, but almost any guy who shows her a little bit of attention or kindness she'll screw.
ReplyDeleteI don't see the relevance of TVD to a discussion of TO....sorry....I don't watch TVD except for scenes with Bonnie and Damon. Everything else is FF.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, for me....which means IMO....you are free to disagree....I am not a fan of Cami as a character right now.....I could care less about her romantic entanglements....other then the fact that she sleeps with Marcel and is then trying to sleep with his adoptive father, while she is said adoptive father's therapist.....it seems that the show is prostituting her for the sake of a plot convention.....this character was actually pretty amazing until the show started to do things like this.....
Deflecting the conversation onto other characters, when discussing one particular character, then using comments made about one particular character to then sweep all characters....is irresponsible. This is why folks get into arguments. Agree to disagree....looks like we won't see eye to eye on this particular character. Which is both of our rights.
Cami is the worsts female character for me on this show. Again, that is my opinion. :)
She's not trying to sleep with Klaus. She admitted that she's attracted to him. I find Katy Perry hot, but I'm not trying to have sex with her. I don't have a problem with your opinion, though.
ReplyDeleteI feel sooo much better......knowing that you don't have a problem with my opinion....comment seems slightly condescending.....
ReplyDeleteThanks!
And yours comes off as slightly patronizing. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI guess this is a case of one gets what they give. :)
ReplyDeleteIts all good!
New preview is up....very interesting.
