The Originals - Live and Let Die - Review

This week’s episode had two major stories. The first being Klaus vs. Mikael. Klaus won the fight, for now. Kol continued to gain Davina’s trust, all the while gathering information. He even came face to face with Mikael at one point. I do wonder what his relationship with his father was like. He seemed just as terrified as Klaus and Elijah did. The other storyline revolved around the werewolves. Hayley, Elijah Marcel and his vampires helped Aiden and Oliver smuggle a group of young untriggered werewolves out of New Orleans. They succeeded but Elijah was captured in the progress. Esther tells him she wants to purify him. (That doesn’t sound good.) I’m assuming they killed Oliver, since Esther probably didn’t have any use for him.

Favorite ‘relationship’: Josh has a love interest! You have no idea how happy this makes me. This means he’ll finally get his own storyline and he’ll be safe for at least another 7 episodes. I’m not sure yet how I feel about Aiden, but so far I like him. He risked a lot to save his brother and I doubt he’ll to blindly follow Esther and Vincent anymore.

Best sass: I think this might be my favorite Elijah episode yet. The sass was off the charts. Especially in his fights. I love the way he always just casually takes off his jacket before a big fight. I don’t know if it’s because he doesn’t want to get blood on it or because he can move better without it, but when he does it you know he’s about to kick some ass.

Friendships that need to happen: Let’s face it, Hayley needs some friends. Friends who’s last names are not Mikaelson. I loved the scene with her, Marcel and Gia. The relationship between Hayley and Marcel was always strained because first she thought he had something to do with the death of her parents and then later because he was at war with Klaus. But now that she knows he saved her as a baby, and then saved her daughter as well, there’s no reason for these two to be at odds. They’re both in very similar positions, both in charge of a community, and I think Hayley could learn a lot from Marcel. As for Gia, with Rebekah gone, Hayley could use a female friend. Earlier in the episode Hayley seemed a bit jealous of Elijah and Gia, but that seems to be all gone now.

Best chemistry: Cami just cannot stay away from Klaus. Even though she knows she’d be better off if she just stayed out of all the supernatural business, she just can’t help herself. There was some real progress in their relationship this week, including an almost-kiss. The fact that he barely touched Davina means that he really cares what she thinks of him.
Least favorite character: Considering both Oliver and Vincent were in this episode, I never expected to say this but Mikael was my least favorite character this week. I feel like he just gets meaner every episode, which I did not think was possible. The moment where he says “Mothers love their children. Fathers make them strong.” shows exactly why his relationship with his children is so horrible. No wonder he hated Klaus so much. Esther’s necklace made him weak so, according to Mikael, Klaus was just a failure. His treatment of Davina during their training was equally brutal. I get that he hates her right now because she’s holding him prisoner but just think, if this is how he trained his children, no wonder Rebekah tried to kill him in his sleep.

Best fight: This fight between Mikael and Klaus is very different from the last one. Last time they fought verbally before Klaus staked him. This time it was a physical fight. But I felt like Klaus had changed a lot since the last fight. He seemed to have more confidence. I think that due to Esther’s revelation about the necklace, he no longer blames himself for being weak. He now knows it was only because of Esther’s magic. Stabbing him with the magical torture knife was a dangerous move though. If he’s not dead, he can always be awoken. I know Klaus wants him to suffer, but as we can see at the end of the episode, he’s going to regret that decision. I’m not sure if it’s something about Mikael that caused the knife to fail or if it was just out of juice. They did use that thing a lot last season.

Best quotes
Josh: “What’s got two thumbs and drinks blood to survive? Oh, right. This guy.”
Elijah: “Brother! Niklaus!” Hayley: “You do realize that literally everyone here has supernatural hearing right?”
Cami: “Yeah well, word on the streets, and by streets I mean Josh, is that you’ve gone totally M.I.A.”
Elijah: “As a devout feminist, I refuse to say that you hit like a girl.”

Next week’s review might be up a little later. I have a mandatory school trip so I’m not going to have much time. But I’ll do my best to get it up by the end of the week. So check in again then and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.
