This week’s episode once again had two major plotlines. First we had Klaus who worked with Ansel to save Elijah from Esther’s mind tricks. Ansel revealed he knew about Hope so Klaus had to kill him to keep the secret. Elijah, after being tormented by his own mind and Esther’s magic, was freed. Across town Hayley, Marcel, Josh, Aiden and Cami all worked together to capture Finn. They succeeded with the help of Jackson. Meanwhile Davina and Kol were trying to find a way to get the dagger to work on Klaus. When Kol tried to steal the white oak stake from Davina, Marcel managed to intercept him.
Most heartbreaking moment: A lot of people felt that Klaus killing Ansel was out of character or a step back for him but I disagree. We need to remember that he’s known Ansel for two days, that he may or may not be involved in Esther’s plans since she did bring him back from the dead. And then there’s the fact that he left Klaus in Mikael’s hands when he was clearly being abused. Now I get that there may be perfectly good explanations for this and Klaus might have accepted them. Had it not been for his knowledge of Hope. Now Klaus can take care of himself. If Ansel had turned out to be shady, Klaus would’ve been able to deal with it. Hope however is just a baby. Klaus had to choose to trust someone he barely knew with a secret that could kill his daughter. So he chose to play it safe, and killed him. It was obvious that he didn’t truly want to, and felt horrible afterwards, but it if it would keep Hope safe, so be it. Even Elijah understood why he did it, and no doubt would he, Rebekah or Hayley have done the same thing had they been in his position.
Most complicated character: I’m having trouble figuring Kol out. I still don’t quite buy his new found hatred for his siblings, one that he must clearly have if he’s siding with Esther and Finn (who last I checked, he couldn’t stand). There’s nothing in between his death and their latest reunion that explains it. They weren’t on the greatest terms, but those terms were a hell of a lot better than his last encounter with his mother (and Finn). Him wanting to dagger his brother on the other hand, I do get. I’m sure all of the siblings have wanted to do that over the past millennium. His relationship with Davina is an interesting one. I’m not gonna lie, from the moment this show started, Kol and Davina have been a crack ship of mine. I always thought they might be a cute couple. Now however, it’s his sincerity that worries me. One minute he’s all into her, the next he’s eyeing the white oak stake. We don’t know if he actually took it since Marcel swooped in, but I’d like to believe he didn’t. Even though Kol clearly fears Esther.
Best plan: It was a good plan, and would’ve gone a lot smoother if Aiden hadn’t been discovered. Finn has immediately been added to my I-hate-you-list for hurting Josh, but I did think Josh’s scenes with Aiden were very cute (really wish they’d get more airtime). I have clearly underestimated Finn’s feelings towards Cami. I mean, he almost stood up to his mother for her, may not be much but for Finn that means something. He did not see Cami being in on the plan coming. On a side-note, I found it hilarious that it took all this planning to take down Finn, yet Marcel had no problem grabbing Kol all by himself without any plan at all.
Favorite moment: The scene with Klaus and mini-Elijah might be one of my favorite Klaus moments to date. We rarely see Klaus being so open, even with his siblings. It’s usually always Elijah who has to tear Klaus away from his darkest self. However this time the roles were reversed. This scene is why I, and probably most of the viewers, watch this show: because of the relationship between the Original siblings. With all the fighting between them, we haven’t gotten of these sweet, emotional moments. And I think that’s a damn shame.
Best ending: So I’m not sure what Esther’s plan is with Cami, surely it has something to do with revenge for the little present Klaus left her (glorious moment if you ask me). But I always take special notice when a human gets fed vampire blood. 50% of the time, it’ll end with a new vampire. Although I think Esther has something more torturous in mind. The other element to the ending of the episode was Marcel and Hayley’s presents. Klaus’ smile was priceless.
What I need: Not much actually. Rebekah is coming back next week (hooray), all I need there is for her to not be put in someone else’s body. I still miss Nate as Kol, I don’t think I could handle anyone but Claire portraying Rebekah. One more thing I need is some Davina and Josh moments, maybe including some over protectiveness on Josh’s part in regards to Kol.
Best quotes:
Josh: “Sweet! A box of dusty old objects. We’re saved!”
Kol: “She’s never going to trust me if she thinks I’m just a flying monkey to the wicked witch. I’ve got it handled, mother.”
Hayley: “Jack, I think the girl that you were waiting on was Andrea Labonair, mythic revolutionary. You got Hayley Marshall, a knocked-up tomboy with a bad attitude. You got dealt a crappy hand.”
Klaus: “We are the demons lurking in shadows. We are the savage villains in fairy tales told to children. But not for my child. Not for Hope. In her story, we are the knights in shining armor. Without you by my side I don’t think I can survive my own love for my daughter. I need you. I need you, brother.”
So that’s it for this week. Check in again next week for a new review and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.

I didn't mention Jackson this week, because he didn't have that much new to say. Who else is super excited for Rebekah's return?
ReplyDeleteI am, as while Rebekah isn't my favourite character (not to say I dislike her, I just have other characters I like more), I do love the interactions between the siblings, and I hope to see Rebekah bring up that last time Esther and Kol were both back among the living, Kol was plotting with his siblings to kill Esther
ReplyDeleteon Kol being complicated well the showrunners don't call him the Loki of the show for nothing, and i don't want that creepy wolf anywhere near Hayley i mean let's be honest he stalked her for months before the curse was lifted, i know it's crazy but part of me thinks Elijah is going to stop wearing suits after what happened when esther had him and the flashback he had when he was dressing up
ReplyDeletethe suit thing i think it'll do some psychological thing to elijah, you still think elijah didn't do it?
ReplyDeleteHe's okay. I'm more weirded out that he constantly says she was supposed to his wife. He wasn't aware of his actions since he was a wolf, so I don't really think it counts.
ReplyDeletebut you agree that he's technically a stalker?
ReplyDeleteWell the act yes, but mentally he had no knowledge or control. So not really.
ReplyDeletebut even AFTER the curse was lifted he expected her to marry him
ReplyDeleteGreat review for a great episode, IMHO ;) !
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on "the most heartbreaking moment" part though I was sad to see Ansel go, not because I believe Klaus didn't do the right but because I thought the character had the potentiel to bring good SLs! And for that reason alone, that's a shame he disappeared so quickly. But I guess I should've been prepared, the show does have a history in killing interesting characters and getting rid of good guest stars. Really what was I thinking?
Plus, it's true that the show is at its best when it focuses on family drama and kinda takes romance out of the equation. I loved the Klelijah moments and I love that they mentionned Klaus's love for Hope which admittedly what really drives him now! Well done writers you ruined me with this ep!! LOL!
Also, it's funny that you should feel that Finn actually liked Cami because I felt like they were just playing each other. Finn didn't know his cover was blown up and Cami was still a pawn in Esther's plan. I thought that was why he was pissed that she got "abducted" by the wolves. Or maybe the actor is just really good at playing ambivalence? Or maybe I just missed something? I don't know, just my opinion though ;) !
On another note, I, personally, don't ship Kol and Davina for the reasons you mentioned. The "I'm wooing so I can use you" and the "I genuinely like you" line is kinda blurred and yes he's cute as hell with a charming accent but Kol should never be trusted. Plus, I'm not sure I'd like Davina to fall for that, get her heart broken and get on the revenge path... again. I love the character but I feel like the revenge arc is starting to get old and I wish the writers found something else for her to do. That said, I like having someone with her own agenda and not letting herself being used again. It's great that the women in general are just so fed up with it that they decide to take matters in their own hands (loved Cami for that this week!). I very much enjoyed the way everyone teamed up and I'm glad we get to see some burgeoning friendship between and Hayley. Honestly, I think feminin friendships is something that should be explored more!
Also, can't wait for Rebekah to come back next week! Plus, I'm with you on not seeing anyone else portraying her. Hopefully that won't be the case. The actress has another acting gig but she does seem willing to guest star as much as she can. Let's keep Claire Holt and make Rebekah's presence even more special any time she drops by in the TO universe!
*raises both hands* on the Rebekah part ;) !
ReplyDeleteAs for Jackson, there is indeed not much to say except that his hair was a mess this ep. And I know, I know it's shallow as heck but come on, it needed to be said lol!
speaking of Claire Holt's new show are you going to watch it? i feel if i do i'm betraying Rebekah
ReplyDeleteI think his hatred for his siblings has always been there. When Kol woke up from his coffin and was relatively (emphasis) civil with his brother, it reminds me of that scene in the flashbacks in episode 2 where Kol is undaggered in New Orleans. "Make no mistake, Nik - I'm still cross that you daggered me. But as far as apologies go, it's a start". When he first woke up, I don't think it would've been clever to go all out on Klaus, especially since he probably wanted to adapt to the modern world first and Esther was still around at that point trying to 'repair' their family. His grudges always seem to be more tactically played, like New Orleans 1914.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, Esther made a better attempt at bringing him back from the other side than any of his siblings did. Remember they had the choice in season 4 and Klaus was the only one who made a hint that they could get him back, and even then it was just another reason to sway the favour on his side. Also, he'd undoubtedly be more mad at his siblings this time around - he died, Klaus was upset and tried to act upon it but that was short-lived, Rebekah only cared for .5 seconds and Elijah didn't even mention it. In fact, he coddled Elena when he realized that Katherine killed Jeremy and made no reference to the fact that the doppelganger killed his own brother. I don't blame Elijah, just the family man retcon.
I don't think Kol is loyal to Esther. At all. Narducci made a point in mentioning that he's on his mothers leash and one of his goals is to get off that leash, even at the expense of her life. I think right now he's going to play all the cards. Esther still believes that he's on her side. Davina knows the whole truth and is on his plan to dagger Klaus - she's also a very powerful witch, who is probably his only source of protection of things go tits up. We'll see what he does next episode, but I reckon he'll fool his brothers.
Honestly, maybe a little biased, but it's my favourite part of this season.
LOL ! Well, I'm definitely gonna watch it because I love the actress and I need my Claire Holt fix. Plus, it looks really promising, David Duchovny as the lead so it's on top on my must watch list now!
ReplyDeleteAs for betraying Rebekah I don't think watching the one who portrays her killing it on another show would be much of a betrayal but that's just me ;) !
I don't really think that anyone knows the truth, Esther could be fabricating the story. Even if he did that was 1000 years ago. I still don't like Jackson-- I am a Elijah and Haley fan. So I don't trust him
ReplyDeleteI like Klaus and Haley moments as friends and parents.
ReplyDeleteMe too ;) ! Hopefully we get to see more of that in the future because it's one of the most interesting relationship in the show, IMO.
ReplyDeleteI just hated that they would bring a character back from the dead only to kill them off again in one episode. It just seems so pointless and I don't think it added anything to the show so it just irritates me.
ReplyDeleteKlaus daggeres the others so much, I totally get wanting to give him a taste of his own medicine. I'm fine with Kol wanting to dagger Klaus - but I need the real Kol back.
Yea, I am a Elijah and Haley fan. And I watch these posts that say Haley and Klaus are endgame. I hope not just because they have a kid together does not mean that they have to be a couple. I don't know Elijah would be heartbroken and no more love triangles
