ReplyDeleteGotham: There have been worse and more whiny kids on a tv show, I think he's doing rather a good job at portraying kid Bruce Wayne. Normally I don't like kids on genre shows either. Nice twist at the end, but it was not so surprising seeing how many people the Penguin has already manipulated.
ReplyDeleteArrow: If it is a cop out, Roy must have been up there - or how are they going to explain him remembering what Sara said. On the other hand where did Roy get arrows nobody recognized... Still believe that Roy is at least sleepwalking around Starling City.
Comic Adaption: TV has bigger problems than the movieverse. On the long run they have to decide if they want the comic book readers to watch a show or the main stream and Gotham is trying to do both. I don't see people beeing satisfied only having a superhero movie/show on screen. At some point they have to bring something new. Like mixing it with different genres as Captain America The Winter Soldier did, beeing also a bit of a political thriller. I don't know if this will work for the mainstream on TV Gotham is somewhere going there. My question to the DC-Verse is: does the mainstream want a connected grittier Universe? Marvel imo is also so succesfull because it is a great lighthearted escape from reality, watching news is very depressing atm.
Agree with what you say about the TV adaptations. Arrow stays quite grounded (to a point), while The Flash has gone all out superpowers (and I think Constantine has too) - and, with the exception of Constantine, they are successful because they know what audience they're going for. Gotham not only doesn't know if it wants to be a grounded or comic-booky, but also it seems to have a different agenda to what FOX wants from it. By airing it at 8pm, and with the whole Batman idea, people probably thought that it'll be a show that maybe the younger kids who love Batman can come and watch, and then in the first two minutes of 1.04 a guy gets a spike through his eye. The only thing that Gotham is doing in its favour is Penguin. Without Robin Lord Taylor playing him SO well, the show would be terrible.
