Sleepy Hollow - Mama - Advance Preview
17 Nov 2014
Reviews RO Sleepy HollowSleepy Hollow’s second season winter finale is coming in three weeks, and after all those episodes about Ichabod and Katrina, it is time to have an Abbie centric episode. Thankfully, the next episode, titled “Mama”, airing next Monday on FOX is all about Lieutenant Abigail Mills (Yay !).
As expected from the title of the episode, “Mama”, we will finally know more about Mama Mills and her relationship with her daughters. I get that the Cranes family is way more complicated than the Mills, so it’s understandable they got more episodes focused on them. Ichabod and Katrina’ son is the Horseman of War after all. It creates great drama. And Ichabod and Katrina’s past is set in another century, it give more material to the story (and they're hot in costume).
Nevertheless, I’ve always been very intrigued by Abbie and Jenny’s mother and I'm really excited the writers finally decide to focus an episode on her. We first believed the woman was crazy, but it turned out she was just aware of the demons in Sleepy Hollow.
We will meet Lori Mills, through flashbacks of her days in the psych ward and also before that when she was with her daughters. It’s titled “Mama” for a reason. We’ve been waiting a long time to see Abbie and her family during her childhood, so I hope you’ll be as satisfied as me by those flashbacks.
But, Lori Mills will also be seen in the present time. How is she capable of that ? Well, in the very first minutes of the episode, Abbie and Jenny will find out their mother is back in Sleepy Hollow, as a ghost ! Her spirit is coming back to the psych ward, the same Jenny was locked up and Irvin is in now, just when patients start to kill themselves.
So, you can expect some very emotional moments for the Mills family. But that’s not all, here’s a list of what you can expect from “Mama” :
- The episode will start with a dream sequence, not very surprising, more intriguing. And, the episode will end with a big surprise !
- Despite “Mama’ being a Mills centric episode, you’ll also see some of the Cranes family. Katrina is back with Henry and Abraham, taking care of the little baby Moloch. Thanks to her necklace, she can’t see what the baby is really like. But, we will see it and it’s terrifying and so evil. And even if it's still little, it can do powerful thing.
- There will be more witchcraft from the Mills ! Abbie has proven herself very capable with spells and magic over the season. In “Mama”, we will see she’s not the only one capable of that in her family. Are the Mills special or anyone has the ability recite a spell ?
- Ichabod won’t be helping much during the episode, but there is a good explanation for it. And it’s hilarious as usual. Poor Ichabod...
- Abbie will interact more with Irvin in "Mama", I’ve missed their scenes together since the start of the season. Their relationship is strong, I’m always very fond of their talks. I’m always amused that Abbie still refers to him as Captain.
- As Ichabod isn’t much available, Abbie will call Hawley to help her. Ichabod is still jealous of Hawley coming up to help Abbie instead of him, it’s cute. And also, Hawley coming to help will mean more scenes between the Mills sisters and him… Love that.
- Abbie and Jenny will get very emotional and they will (finally !) discuss their feelings, about their childhood, how their mother was with them. They didn’t have the same relationship with her, so it was time to set things straight. They both also discuss Abbie being a witness and its consequences.
- Hawley will bring something special to Ichabod; something he will very much appreciate.
- Remember Grace Dixon, Abbie and Jenny’s ancestor ? Well, we will see her again, and she will be mentioned. Something that belonged to her will provide very useful for the Mills sisters.
“Mama” is another great episode in this second season of Sleepy Hollow. I have to admit, the pace of the show has a bit slow down since two episodes, but it’s still very entertaining and surprising.
“Mama", being full of revelations about the Mills family really restored my hope in the show. It might not be an epic episode for the show's mythology, but it's an important step in Abbie, and Jenny, development. The winter finale is coming soon, and I have a feeling that it will be epic.
And finally, some quotes from "Mama" :
- "Like mother, like daughter"
- "She wants me to do it"
- "Mama, listen to me... Mama... Mama, answer me"
- "I'm not scared of you anymore"
- "It was no easy assignment she took on"

this is the episode that ichabod is sick right
ReplyDeleteYep. Its going to be hilarious!!
ReplyDeleteLoving Hawley and Abbie scenes. Last epi was sooooo adorable.
Thanks for the episode setup. Wondering if Abbie finds out about Hawley and Jenny's "history" together this week. I think if Irving had been out and about ,this season so far would have had a bit more punch, as would Jenny's being more involved would also have helped. I love, love, love this show and so want it to succeed and have more seasons. Nothing makes me laugh like Ichabod does.
ReplyDeleteCool beans, Rom. You repeated the "Despite 'Mama' being a Mills centric episode..." point, got it second and last :). It is good to see Jenny back, I had been wondering where she had disappeared to.
ReplyDeleteTypical of Ichabod to get the 'Man Flu'
ReplyDeleteI just can't wait for some questions to be finally answered.
I just can't wait....he is sooo funny - Ichabod. Tom Mison is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI am kinda sad that the show decided to put Katrina back with HH and Henry....she was really vibing with the team. As well, the team needs a witch...I know Abbie is getting up to speed with the technique....but still....I feel as though the team needs someone on par with the evil that is coming their way. Why are there no angels or the like in this show....? I think they need a Castiel (SPN reference).
I don't like it either but I'm going to wait till episode 11 before I vent. I have a vague idea where they are taking Katrina. An I am looking forward to it. But I just wish they hadn't labeled her powerful, because a powerful witch just doesn't need this amount of assistance.
ReplyDeleteStill I'm hopeful. Let's wait an see. Also we have another 'supposed' good guy calked Orion (Max Brown) coming after the Xmas holidays. I think we are going to lose someone to gain another.
Just Jared has him coming in at the end of the second season.....wow....
ReplyDeleteI hope we don't lose anyone...they already are down quite a few characters...Michelle Trachtenberg is also joining... this should be really good...
MT is just flashbacks though, unless she is another witch still walking around. I think more characters are coming so we'll lose one we've already formed an opinion with, even care about....for shock. You can't really have an apocalyptic themed show, have War and Death walking around summoning monsters every week, and not have some personal casualties amongst our protagonists.
ReplyDeleteI hope its not Hawley....he and Abbie are soooo cute!
ReplyDeletePersonally I don't think Hawley is for Abbie. I remember reading Orion was going to be Abbie's love interest. Because at the time I thought "Why 2"
ReplyDeleteCaroline was no one special but we still felt for her. But unless one of the inner group is going to die, Hawley is in trouble.
Well I will enjoy until it ends....I guess.....
ReplyDeleteWhose Caroline?
😊Me too, it's the highlight of my Mondays and I'm along for the ride till the end!
ReplyDeleteCaroline was the redhead reenactment girl that Ichabod mistook for Katrina in season 1, then she was killed by the Weeping Lady.
Ohhhh yes!
ReplyDeleteYou are sooo good to remember names. I can barely remember my own. Lol
My bet is on Irving....
ReplyDeleteThanks for this! You repeated the part about the Cranes being in the ep twice though.
ReplyDeleteLol I remember her because she was soooo sweet and very real. More real than any character on SH. An she was only on brief moments in 2 seasons.
ReplyDeleteBertha is a beautiful name 🌺
I am hoping Jenny.
