Sleepy Hollow - Deliverance - Advance Preview
3 Nov 2014
Reviews RO Sleepy HollowSleepy Hollow is continuing its outstanding second season next Monday, on FOX with an all episode titled “Deliverance”. After last week’s huge cliffhanger, we are all dying to know what is going to happen to our beloved witch, Katerina, after she swallowed an evil spider during her sleep. (eww)
“Deliverance” is another amazing episode of Sleepy Hollow. I always love it when Katerina is the center of the episode, and saving her from what Henry has done to her will be the only focus of our Witnesses next Monday.
Here’s a list of what you can expect from “Deliverance” :
- As Henry put his mother’s life in danger again, creating that spider from the poison, the question of whether he can be saved or not will be raised again. His parents still believe in his humanity, Abby doesn’t. I’m more inclined to go with Abby. Henry is War, he’s evil and he will actually make it very clear where he stands.
- Remember when Moloch revealed Katerina was a vessel, it will definitely come again during the episode. It’s the reason why Henry has targeted her.
- Romantic moments between Ichabod and Katerina. Despite of everything, those two are truly and deeply in love, their story is so touching. They’ve spent so much time apart and yet they always believe in each other and in their love.
- Sheriff Reyes is back ! I’m glad to see her, she will be a bit nicer this week, but she’s still very cold.
- An terrific and surprising fight between two allies, which have deeper consequences I hope.
- Katerina will finally change her clothes and will wear a jeans. I must say it really suits her and Katia Winter's amazingly hot body. I won't be the only one to notice her.
- Benjamin Franklin will be mentioned again. He always proves himself to be useful to our Witnesses in their quest against Evil. It’s connected to the Purgatory's key of the beginning of the season.
- Ichabod will miss having an army by his side to fight, but he'll find another way to get what he wants.
- Katerina will be confronted to modern technology and she will see the "magic" in it. She will also use some small witchcraft during the hour. Yay !
- We will see Henry Parish’s (the church) again !
- Abby and Ichabod will go on a dangerous mission to get a special artefact. There will be guns and some action, yet it will be hilarious. Those two are the perfect cop buddy duo ever.
- Remember in “The Weeping Lady” Ichabod didn’t understand how Katerina could speak to a headless horseman, Abraham. Next Monday, she will reveal to Ichabod she can discuss with Abraham thanks to the enchanted necklace. Let’s just say Ichabod won’t be pleased with this news. Yes, he is jealous.
- Abby and Katerina will share more scenes together, one of them is especially poignant.
- Ichabod will be confronted to modern democracy and vote. It’s hilarious as usual when Ichabod is confronted to our modern habits.
“Deliverance” is another exciting and surprising episode of Sleepy Hollow. Everything that happened in the last two episodes will make more sense after this episode. Moloch’s plan, with the help of the two Horsemen, Abraham and Henry, is coming together. This show never disappoints me, it’s always the perfect balance of emotions, humor and action.
And finally, the quotes game. Guess from which character those quotes are :
1- “All these secrets that have come between us, they break my heart but they do not reflect our love”
2- “We can’t base our strategy on hope”
3- “I’m not sure we understand each other”
4- “It’s time we talk”
5- “What a trick you pulled getting me here”
6- “The truth about what’s going on in Sleepy Hollow”
7- “Democracy in action”
8- “Let’s be in touch”
Are you excited about “Deliverance” ? Don’t miss it Monday, Nov. 3 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Hit the comments !

Thanks for the preview. Do we get any Jenny or Hawley?
ReplyDeleteThe show barely resembles the one we fell in love with. Why the focus on secondary characters?
ReplyDeleteThat... is unbelievably awful. Who knew this show would fall this low?
ReplyDeleteSurprised at your reaction because I think it sounds great.
ReplyDeleteI respectfully disagree as I don't see how it has changed except to get better. I am sorry to hear you do not like it anymore as I love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the review. The episode sounds like a great episode that is going to give us answers to some questions from previous episodes as well as move storylines along which every fan should love. By the way I love the Quote Game.
ReplyDeleteAnother glowing review for this episode! I can't wait to see it! This season just keeps getting better and better!
ReplyDeleteI agree. The show is an ensemble. I love the episodes that explores the characters. Jenny, Katrina, Henry, and Irving are all titled characters on the show, the writers should use them to tell the stories too. And the episodes just get better and better.
ReplyDeleteI think I read somewhere that they aren't in this week's episode.
ReplyDeleteThe show has two leads - Ichabod and Abbie. So far this season however, we've had episode after episode of Ichabod's pain and family drama. Even when it wasn't the central focus it has been mentioned or a theme. We have almost zero insight into what Abbie is thinking or feeling outside of Ichabod, his son, or Katrina. Abbie as a character is being pushed aside for Crane Family Drama and he been little more than a sidekick to Ichabod. Even Jennie and Irving have been pushed aside for Katrina, Abraham, and Henry, not to mention Hawley. No wonder the ratings are bad.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with your summation. The first episode was about getting Abbie out of purgatory. The second episode was about finding a way to free Katrina--wherein Abbie's character began to explore her reaction to being in purgatory and how that effects her relationship with Crane. The third episode was about Abbie and Jenny's relationship, and Abbie's relationship with her mother, with added parts of Ichabod and his relationship with his son, along with Abbie's uncertainty towards Katrina and her own conflicted feelings about the mother/child relationship. The fourth episode was about Ichabod and Abbie rescuing a child from the pied piper, and Abbie's relationship with her advocate and what happened to her as a child. The fifth episode was about Ichabod and his relationship with women, including his significant relationship with his wife. The sixth episode was about saving Corbin's son and included intimate and emotional scenes between Joe an Abbie, and further insight into her transition from wild teenager to civil servant. Yes, there have been mentions of the Crane family drama, but I don't think it's fair to short change what the other characters have been doing. The character who has really been underused is Irving! These stories are incredibly complex and layered. We've actually been given a lot and I hope they continue to give us this great stuff!
ReplyDeleteBut that's just what I see.
Thanks :) Sleepy Hollow is definitely a great show
ReplyDeleteTrue they're both absent from this episode :)
ReplyDeleteTHIS^^^ 100% agree.
ReplyDeleteDo justice to all the characters (and not just the primary leads) and the show automatically gets even better.
How has what you listed refuted my contention?
ReplyDeleteThis episode looks to be like yet another amazing episode. It amazes me how they keep getting better with each new one. I'm really glad we'll be seeing Reyes again as well as Katrina working with Team Witness in a more intimate way. Thanks for such a great review!!
ReplyDeleteThis show was never an ensemble. It had two leads and everyone else is a supporting character to THEIR story. Almost no one cared about Katrina last season, I was at NYComicCon last year and even they all knew how most of the audience felt(which isn't to say that the actress isn't a nice woman). Yet all they've done since then is try to give her a larger, more important role.
ReplyDeleteThis reeks of network meddling and I would bet has little to do with the story the original team wants to tell.
This isn't the first rodeo for most of us, we know what this is, having seen it too many times before on other shows and it never works out well. They'd be wiser not to act like most of their audience is too stupid to see it because the audience that is going to be most responsible for keeping the show's mentions and presence up has experience and it's pretty clear.
why do you keep calling her "Katerina"? That's incorrect.
ReplyDeleteNot really, what it tends to do is diminish the focus and water down the story
ReplyDeletethe show is suppose to be an ensemble, but does not come off that way. This season hasn't been great.
ReplyDeleteLOL So this is the new party line the network is sending out? Seeing as you said almost exactly what the Examiner said regarding Ichabod and Katrina. That whole "they have such a deep true touching love and such belief in each other blah blah".
ReplyDeleteWhich is put to lie immediately by the fact that Katrina lied to him constantly - showing she did NOT believe in him nor trust him. She felt he needed to be manipulated into doing what she felt was the right thing to do. That is not showing belief in someone nor respect. Ichabod did show repeatedly he believed in Katrina, given that until the Weeping Lady, he made excuses for the lies he discovered. He also defended her to Abbie when she seemed a little doubtful about her motives. But Katrina? Showed precious little faith in her husband beyond the fact that she'd be able to manipulate him into doing what she wanted.
I know how shows work this stuff, I've seen it too many times before. They generally have the victim of the lies and manipulations agree that it was all for the best and THEY are somehow the ones at fault for making the liar feel they needed to lie to them. So essentially, they have to make Ichabod look bad in order to make a SUPPORTING character who until recently averaged maybe 90 seconds an episode, Katrina, look good.
And I'm sorry but no one's got time for jealous Ichabod over the freaking Headless Horseman - there is an Apocalypse to fight. THAT is what drew people to the story in Season 1 - the fact that Abbie and Ichabod have amazing chemistry(whether you view it as BFF or OTP type chemisty, it's incredible) and the Witness/Apocalypse plotlines(outrageous as they are the chemistry between I and A allowed for the suspension of disbelief) and the history showing how long the fight had been doing on, along with supporting characters like Jenny and Irving who had reason to be there and fit in with the atmosphere of the show well. Most people just kind of rolled their eyes at Katrina and TPTB know it. What is it with show turning into some teenage soap opera? Not to mention the horrible Hawley storyline where he's already slept with Abbie's sister Jenny and now they have him going after Abbie, which is gross.
Also while I've heard that, thank god, Hawley isn't in this episode, it has to be said he's taking away from Jenny's screentime. Last season SHE did what he's doing now. The only thing he adds is a useless potential conflict between the sisters(who don't need an excuse given their already fraught family history). Jenny is a "team member" who Nick is, for all intents and purposes, replacing for no good reason.
That said the rest of the episode sounds really good and I think it's understandable that Henry's parents at least want to try to redeem him. They never had the chance before. I am hoping the fight between two allies will be between War and Death(Death ain't down with hurting Katrina) and not Ichabod and Abbie.
I agree that the story telling has gotten richer.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping that Hawley and Abbie get some time together soon. I would like to see how she handles his growing affections towards her. I think it is adorable...as she has no idea that he is feeling the way that he does.
ReplyDeleteIs Abbie being pushed aside for Katrina, and for Crane Family Drama? What about the other PoC on the show? This article asks - http://brownsista.tumblr.com/post/101605524984/is-abbie-mills-really-sleepy-hollows-leading-lady
ReplyDeleteWe are not a minority, we are legion. It's just that we keep quiet and enjoy the show. ;) :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not
ReplyDeleteI can't stand that Sheriff.. the only way I'll be able to even slightly tolerate her is if she finds out what Irving said was all true and happening....
I'd like to see what Jenny will think of it lol
ReplyDeleteI think there are going to be some good scenes! I too want to know how Jenny will react. :)
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteI think that there are a ton of people who like Katrina......esp. on this site.
I like her and I like her marriage with Ichabod. Just disappointed that she felt the need to keep secrets and lie to him....but perhaps she is protecting him.
Great article. Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that Abbie is being pushed aside as the leading lady.....she has wayyyy more screen time then Katrina on any episode.
I think we learn things about Abbie every episode. I will say that more backstory of the character is needed.
Agreed. I tend to think there's more to why she's kept all these secrets, all of which will be revealed over time. I'm hoping the reasons will be good ones, along the lines of protecting him. We shall see.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, as for this episode, it sounds very fascinating! I too like Katrina, and I'm very glad that we'll get some more time with her this episode-and that she'll be doing a little bit of magic besides (and now I'm curious how they'll convince her to get into a pair of jeans as well :p). And I'm especially looking forward to Abbie and Katrina sharing a moment or two together. I'm all for them becoming allies down the line, and working together.
I'm also excited for Abbie and Ichabod's trip out to vote. That'll be so fun-I can already imagine all the ranting Crane will do :D. I love that the show is going to touch on that topic a bit, all the changes that have come about with the issue of voting over the years, for better (allowing everyone the right to vote) and for worse (people not exercising that right).
As for the quotes...hmmm. Let's see:
1. Crane
2. Abbie
3. Katrina
4. Katrina
5. Abraham
6. Henry
7. Crane
8. Abbie
LOL So this is the new party line the network is sending out? Seeing as you said almost exactly what the Examiner said regarding Ichabod and Katrina. That whole "they have such a deep true touching love and such belief in each other blah blah". We know networks send out "talking points" that they basically insist be used if the reviewer wants continued access.
ReplyDelete...or, you know, it COULD just happen to be the reviewer's genuine opinion, too.
I really do not get why people are so bugged about Katrina getting focus. She's part of the cast, people. She's married to one of the main characters. Logic therefore dictates she's going to get a bit of airtime here and there as a result. Last season, and all throughout this one thus far, all I hear is people complaining about how "boring" a character Katrina is, how they don't get why she's there if she's not going to be part of the story, etc.
Now that they are making her more a part of the story, people are complaining about that. I don't get what some fans want with her. I love Crane and Abbie, god knows I do. But I'm fascinated by all these other characters surrounding them, too, and they all deserve their moments in the spotlight, too (I won't argue with those who want to see more Jenny and Irving, I'll say that much). And yes, that includes Katrina. If others aren't fans of her, fine, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but as of now, she's on the cast, she's part of the show, so she's going to be part of the story. If you don't like that...*Shrugs*. I don't know what to tell you.
You're not only one. Me too! I like her personality
ReplyDeleteI'm reviewing the show. I have advance access to Deliverance. I was NOT given any talking points. I just want to dispel that rumor before it spreads. Chances are, if there are similarities in the two previews, it's because both preview writers are trying not to give too much away.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a rumor, it happens. Just because you weren't giving any doesn't mean no one else was. Also the similarities are beyond "not trying to give too much away" they hit nearly all the same points in the same way, just with slightly different phrasing.
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame if it's true. I know one of the writers. I'll ask.
ReplyDeleteProtecting him isn't a good reason, how does keeping the truth from him protect him? It shows a total lack of trust in him, including a lack of trust in his abilities. There isn't a truly good reason for any lie she told him - they all come down to "I don't trust you to handle the truth and I believe I know better than you".
ReplyDeleteIt's not like with Abbie where she'd been a traumatized child and couldn't even consciously admit to what happened, so that's why Corbin didn't mention anything. Ichabod had been "drafted" into this secret war already, yet he was still kept in the dark. And she married him, all while lying to him and even more talking to him about the importance of communication. He mentioned it in a Season 1 episode when Abbie brought it up and how Katrina had once said something similar. Yet unlike Abbie, she apparently thought that whole communication should only work one way. That's just plain shady. It also makes him look bad in order to excuse her actions. Why should the audience respect him or his opinions if she doesn't have to and she is presented as being right to do so and excused? Because that's how it works, the general audience tends to take it's cues from the writing.
He trusts her enough to leave her with the enemy after they'd gone through all sorts of stuff to try and free her but she never trusted him enough to tell him the truth about herself or about himself or about the facts of how a dear friend of his DIED. And being a witch, she had to suspect the woman's soul wouldn't be able to find peace under those circumstances. And then she still tried to deny it and blame it on Mary 240 years later except he finally decided, for a brief lucid moment, he'd have enough of excusing her convenient lies and omissions. Too put it simply, that's really bad and the majority of the lying wasn't done in a moment of weakness, it was something that had to be done over and over again. And in the case of Mary she had to write fake letters.
LOL although on a completely side note, it's kind of funny how they've all had creepily obsessed former or wished to be flames(Abbie had Andy, Ichabod had Mary and Katrina's got Headless)
Thank you for the preview. : )
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to this one and the next two, "Heartless" and "Mama". My favorite characters are Ichabod, Abbie, Katrina, and Hawley so any episode that focuses on them makes me happy. I also enjoy the historical fantasy flashbacks. And even though neither is a popular pairing, I ship Ichabod/Katrina and Hawley/Abbie. I don't like the way so many SH fans presume to speak for the entire fandom.
Wait, so you're saying, I'm lying? If I had talking points, I'd just say nothing. I am currently reviewing the show (my recap is ready to go after it airs - just need to proofread it). Fox did NOT distribute talking points to me. I can't represent anything about what anyone else was or was not given. But, the system seems pretty standardized. So, for small time bloggers/reviewers like me - no talking points! Have you ever been a reviewer? Where are you getting your information?
ReplyDeleteI don't see it as a sign of distrust towards Ichabod's ability to handle the issues on her part so much as her wanting to try and protect him-she figures he'd have enough danger in his life and she wants to avoid piling on that any further. I'm not saying that's a logical reason, mind, because you are right that keeping these secrets has clearly backfired on her and this is all stuff Ichabod should've been let in on. I'm just saying I do think, or at least, I hope, her motives were, generally, at least, well-meaning, if perhaps rather naïve. If I, for instance, gave birth to a baby who turned out to be evil on the level Henry is, I can understand panicking/freaking out and maybe wanting to find some way to hide that problem from those I love, for all sorts of reasons.
ReplyDeleteNow, the issue of Mary's death is a whole other story and a valid point for those who are wary of Katrina's motives. I didn't buy that story of hers about how Mary died, either, after all. But even there, there still could be a valid explanation for her odd, unsettling behavior. Maybe she's been possessed, maybe Henry/Moloch/Abraham have all been working together to make her appear evil when she's not, etc. Her powers were limited to nonexistent when held captive, after all, so she's already in a weakened state there, and given all the meetings going on between Henry, Moloch, and Abraham about "turning" Katrina and whatnot, that seems like a very logical explanation to me for at least some of Katrina's actions, and something not worth blaming her for as a result.
My main point is simply that before everyone jumps all over Katrina for what she's done, it might help if we all let the story progress a little further and delve more into the reasons behind her behavior. She could well turn out to be evil...or there may be more to it than that. And for all the fans complaining about an episode with focus on her, if they're simultaneously demanding answers as to why she's doing this or saying that to Ichabod and being all shady, well, in order to get those answers, that means she's going to have to be the focus in an episode here and there as a result, no?
I don't understand how they can say Abbie is being pushed aside when he gets more character growth than even Ichabod. He still sings the same tune sometimes. Abbie also gets a whole episode to herself with Jenny.
ReplyDeleteThe writers have a plan and they are following it without fan influence. I applaud them for that. Why are some fans picking every episode with a toothpick?
😊definitely not in the minority, but maybe in the minority compared to the whole fandom shipping game.
ReplyDelete@Angela and @Bertha....Girls it's like you steal my thoughts before I can form them 😊
ReplyDeleteI agree with you both.
Well said Debra. An honestly we have no need to shoutout. We like who we like. An we watch the show for ourselves not others.
ReplyDeleteExactly not only is she married to the lead, she has a connection with 2 horseman. Being she is the closet to the whole apocalypse plot, which just happens to be the theme of the whole show.
ReplyDeleteI can't understand this either. Fans demanded more from Katrina in season 1. That was the seasons weakest link they said. Now that the writers are fleshing her characters out.....she is getting too much attention!
I'm glad the writers don't listen to fans and just follow there own plan. It would be a very dysfunctional show if they did.
The first quote is my favourite. Can't wait for when it's spoken.😊
ReplyDeletegreat preview thank!
ReplyDeleteHawley is a fun character. I am liking him more and more with each passing episode.
ReplyDeleteEvery epi is about Abbie....example 2x03 was all about Abbie....I am really not sure....
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the writers don't listen to fans and just follow there own plan. It would be a very dysfunctional show if they did.
ReplyDeleteI tend to feel this way about fans' relationship with TV shows in general. On the one hand, I do love that we live in an era where fans can have a more immediate connection with their favorite TV shows-more opportunity to chat with other fans from all over, talking to the cast and the writers and whatnot sometimes by way of Twitter or Facebook or whatever. It can be loads of fun and add to the enjoyment of the show. But of course, when that interaction leads to obnoxious shipping wars, or fans trying to make a show bend to their personal wishes, and so forth...yeah. It can get ugly very fast.
Personally, I think it definitely would do well for those who work on a series, from the showrunners down to the writers, to keep in mind they'll never be able to please everyone. Sure, it's nice and fun to get fan input, perhaps even welcomed ('cause, hey, sometimes fans can have some intriguing ideas that could be cool to see play out on screen), but I tend to believe that if they've got a good idea of where to take their story, they should stick with it. That's not to say they shouldn't listen to legit criticisms-sometimes a storyline doesn't make sense, sometimes there's important details that seem to get glossed over, sometimes a character is inconsistently portrayed, etc. But there's a vast difference between fans complaining about that stuff and complaining because some character is getting in the way of their favorite pairing or something of that sort.
Meeeeeeeeee tooooooo.
ReplyDeleteI FLOVE that he has a crush on Abbie, and she has no idea....
Thanks lady!
ReplyDeleteI just like how he irritates Ichabod :D. And I'm intrigued by the debate of wondering whether or not I should trust him-he's been helpful to Crane and Abbie thus far, but he's also a huckster. And there was that thing with the bone flute being sent to Henry at the end of an episode recently, too. So I'm looking forward to seeing how that part of his story unfolds. Plus, there's his history with Jenny that I'm wondering about, too. Given all the crazy stuff she's done, it doesn't surprise me she'd meet up with shady characters like him along the way and I'd like to see how that frames their interaction going forward, too.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks. I love what you have to say, too, whether it's adding on to our thoughts or starting up a whole new line of thought/discussion :). As always, happy to be in agreement.
ReplyDeleteI just don't get how some fans get soooo invested that they forget that the show is not real....its troubling....IMO
ReplyDeleteI love how Ichabod is in constant ear shot whenever Hawley is near....making sure that nothing untoward happens with Abbie. Its all soo endearing!
ReplyDeleteit's been so awesome seeing ichabod dealing with modern technology it's going to be great seeing katrina dealing with it lol, and i'm excited to see ichabod and abbie vote because the creators that this is a pretty big moment for ichabod and abbie in terms of how much time has changed for voting rights and women rights
ReplyDeleteThe show is boring and need to get back to the apocalypse and stop the romance crap. If I wanted to see a love story I could tune into soap operas. And the whole focus this season is on the Crane family drama. Henry is evil and could care less about Ichy and Katrina. He is the fricking Houseman of War. I do not understand why the show do not just go with it and MOVE ON...
ReplyDeleteShe have not refuted your point. Her head is in the sand. She wants the useless romantic storyline and nothing will stop her. The only way she will get is is to have the Crane family drama front and center.
ReplyDeleteGirl, that's not a legit article, that's a pissed off Ichabbie fan who mistakenly thinks Katrina fans hate Abbie. That whole rant is absurd.
ReplyDelete
