1 Dec 2014
Reviews RO Sleepy HollowOye, oye, Sleepy Hollow fans, the end of the world is finally coming ! Mark your calender, the Sleepy Hollow fall finale, titled “The Akeda” is airing this Monday on FOX !
Moloch has risen, and he will start to bring Hell on Earth. Our amazing witness, along with their allies, will do anything to stop him and his horsemen. It sounds epic, right ? Well, the episode is even beyond epic. Watch the excellent movie trailer here
The second season of Sleepy Hollow has been a great ride. The task wasn't easy for the Sleepy Hollow writers. Last season, they have created such a groundbreaking show, a perfect mix of sci-fi, historic, romantic and funny moments.
And mostly, they have created the best cop buddy duo ever : Ichabod and Abbie. They’re such a great team, with an unique bond and served by the magic chemistry between Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie. So, continuing this work in a second season was a tough task.
I have very much enjoyed the first part of the second season, but I found the pace slowed down a bit afterwards. This year, we get more episodes of Sleepy Hollow, so the writers took that chance to focus more on the witnesses’ past and their relationships (mostly Ichabod and Katrina, but Abbie and Jenny had their moments too). It was very interesting and fun to know them better, and I really appreciated the introduction of Hawley, but it felt like we were losing track of the main storyline of the show : Moloch trying to rise on Earth. Luckily, the show has never lost his humor,
But now, the show is back right on track. Last week “Magnum Opus” was excellent, this week, “The Akeda” will be an epic, heartbreaking, surprising, action packed and amazing hour of television. It’s the perfect mix of everything that I love about Sleepy Hollow. I coudln’t be more enthousiatic about this episode.
So many things will happen in the fall finale, here’s a list of what you can expect :
- Ichabod will demonstrate how good he is with a sword. I have missed him fighting with a sword, now he has Methusalem’ sword.
- As seen in the picture above, Abbie and Ichabod will use a motorcycle this week. Let’s just say it’s a very funny scene and they will both enjoy it very much.
- Jenny will make a very meaningful promise.
- There will be many references to the first season. Places we’ve been to, events that happened will be both mentioned and seen again. I’m always very fond of these moments, it really shows the writers have a plan and it's a nice throwback for the fans.
- Some of the visions we’ve watched earlier this season might come true
- More witchcraft ! It’s the end of the world, it’s time for Katrina to show the extant of her powers. I always want to see more of them ! B
- Last week, our Witnesses found the sword, able to kill any demons. It’s exactly what they needed to defeat Moloch, but it turns out the sword demands a sacrifice. If you use it to kill, then it takes your soul and body…. But our witnesses know someone whose soul has already been claimed. Irvin might be the one who can slay Moloch with the sword without risking to die,...
- Abbie and Ichabod will both wonder if their duty as Witnesses is to sacrifice themselves to stop Moloch.
- One of the witnesses will get injured during the fight against Moloch’s army (remember them from Purgatory ?) ! Nooooo !
- The question of whether Ichabod would be able to kill Henry, the horseman of War, his son, to stop Moloch’s plan has been a recurring one this season. In “The Akeda”, Ichabod will finally make his choice about Henry.
- Katrina and Ichabod will have a very heated argument. Their relationship has really suffered since Katrina came back from Purgatory and spent her time with Abraham, away from her husband. Many lies from her were revealed and they never had the chance to talk. Moreover, Ichabod will witness Katrina’s gestures of affection towards Abraham. Ichabod will express his doubts about Katrina and his ability to trust her now. They really need to discuss and sort things out calmly, but it's the end of the world, so they can't be calm.
- The first two signs of the Apocalypse are : lightnings and bloods from the sky… Terrific.
- Hawley will finally meet Katrina, and he will be quite impressed by Mrs Crane.
- Abbie will make a great motivation speech. Nicole Beharie is really at the top of her game in “The Akeda”. She has really impressed me.
- It’s a real chance Ichabod and Abbie have expanded their gang this season, Without all of them (Jenny, Irvin and Hawley), the Witnesses wouldn’t have been able to pull off their plan to stop Moloch. But it doesn't mean their plan can actually work...
- Get your tissues ready because there will be one scene very emotional and heartbreaking.
- The last scene of the episode is just amazing and crazy. It left me speechless and shocked…
- Moloch will finally reveal his plan and it's absolutely evil and scary.
“The Akeda” is a thrilling, epic and surprising fall finale. In my opinion, it’s the best finale of this fall season. It’s the perfect combination of everything I expect from a finale.
It’s clearly the episode you can not miss ! “The Akeda” will air this Monday, on FOX.

Amazing Review I can't wait to watch this episode love Abbie and Ichabod as partners just don't turn it romantic for once I will love a show where the two leads be best friends who there for each other certain tv shows it works like The Mentalist Bones Castle to name a few but it so rare to see a female and male friendship on tv unless it's the supporting characters
ReplyDeletelike Elementary?
ReplyDeleteso someone does die? i though moloch's plan was to end the world so why are you making it sound different? Ichabod really does finally make his decision you're not playing right?
ReplyDeleteThankyou for another amazing. I love how you are very subjective and allowing the fans to come up with their own opinions on the episode. You leave me crazing to see this episode.
ReplyDeleteWell that's only show with a female and male friendship and I doubt they put them together since Sherlock and Waston was friends but at that point both charactes was played by men
ReplyDeleteThanks :) I don't want to give my opinion just now but I very much enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteWell, Moloch wants to end the world, but I always wonder how he wants to do it. He will fully explain himself in the episode.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
ReplyDeleteI really see Abbie and Ichabod as friends, well more than friends but in a platonic relationship. They deeply care for each other, they understand each other perfectly but there's nothing romantic between them for me. It's true, male and female friendships is very rare on TV. That's why Sleepy Hollow is such an unique show and I'm such a big fan of it.
I really hope it lives up to the high expectations we all have!
ReplyDeleteYour review has got me even more excited about Monday's episode. I think your appreciation of Sleepy Hollow really comes through in a fun review of the show. Here's hoping for a Season 3.
ReplyDeleteDoes Katrina shine in the episode? The preview of her using her powers looks good.
ReplyDeleteShe does shine yes :)
ReplyDeleteThere has to be a Season 3... Otherwise, we will send the Horsemen against Fox
ReplyDeleteI don't see how it couldn't :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this preview, I'm totally stoked. Getting off work a bit early on Monday and everything to watch it. :D Excited for the apocalyptic-y stuff!
ReplyDeletePS - If anyone knows where exactly on YouTube to find that extended trailer, please let me know. I did a search by date and everything, nothing is long enough to be it. :( I love those movie trailers they do for the finales though. So. Much. It's not really working through here. :/
And without a witness to save them.
ReplyDeletewhoa well that's horrifying
ReplyDeletejust type in foxbroadcastig on youtube and it will be there
ReplyDeleteThanks :P Weird how that pulled it up instantly yet when I accessed their page from my homepage on YouTube, it doesn't show. Again, thank you. :D
ReplyDeleteyou're welcome
ReplyDeleteI'm deeply nervous about this sacrifice thing, and these characters' lives being at risk, and the shocking ending you note. I'm just really hoping this "sacrifice" discussion involves them simply losing their soul and needing to regain it, and not dying altogether or something-I don't want to lose any of the gang! *Reaches arms out desperately* With your tissues comment, does that tie into something bad happening to one of the characters? Or is it emotional/heartbreaking in the way Abbie and Jenny's reunion with their mom a couple episodes back was? 'Cause the latter I'd be fine with. The former, on the other hand...
ReplyDeleteOutside of that nervousness, though, I am very excited about the finale, and from your summary, it sounds great. I'm very interested in this heated argument Ichabod and Katrina have (and I'm glad they're going to apparently address their feelings about Henry once and for all here-I was liking that part of the storyline this season, but it makes sense that at some point the Cranes will have to come to some understanding/conclusion about their son and whether or not he can be saved). Yay for Katrina doing some witchcraft, too, and LOL at Hawley being impressed by her as well. Hee. That should be fun to see ('cause lord knows he needs more reasons to be a thorn in Ichabod's side, right :p?).
And I'm excited about Abbie's motivational speech, too. She's been so good at talking sense into everybody this season when they're feeling despaired and unfocused and whatnot, so I can just imagine how amazing a "let's rally the troops" speech from her would be. I love her "no BS, let's get down to business" attitude, and I've no doubt she'll be bringing that mindset in full force this episode.
Been enjoying reading your overviews of this season thus far and giving us an idea of what to expect! Here's hoping Monday night will be an enjoyable experience for all us fans!
I'm not asking for much here, but could you say whether the sacrifice is male or female???? Not that it matters....
ReplyDeleteActually,Bone and Booth are a couple because many fans want. They are a cop duo for many first seasons but they are turned into a couple in just a few last seasons.
ReplyDeleteWhy does it work for The Mentalist, Bones and Castle and can't work for Sleepy Hollow? You know you can be friends, partners, and lovers. Abbie and Ichabod are such a great pairing that any capacity could and would work for them and take nothing away from the show. They are already devoted to each other I really don't see much different if things turned sexually or not.
ReplyDeletelaw and Order SVU: great male/female partnerships same with Criminal Minds. Most of the cops shows on tv support great male/female friends but just like in real life when people work closely with each other in these heightened scenarios emotions also run high
Nicole always impresses me, Abbie is not only the voice of the audience but she is the heart of the show. I really hope that the sacrifice is not Jenny, the Mills/Dixon line has lost so many in this fight and they are all that is left. I don't want it to be Irving either but with the new police chief I can see him moving into another role on the show. Can you still fight on the side of good with no soul plus.
ReplyDeleteMy feeling for Katrina and Ichabod and their personal love story are just about reached all that I can take, please move on from this topic. It does nothing but distrupt the flow of the show nor I'm a moved by any of this failed redemption storyline for Henry. I don't even see a struggle with Henry with his humanity. What the show should have done was connected him to the Mills sister since they are more similiar in situation and compare each of their choices and/or temptations to each other.
I am glad that the show is finally getting back to what made it worth watching in the first place and only hope the second half of the season can pull me back in.
kind of funny you think the writer have a plan, all they have shown this season is that they have none and couldn't not even follow the canon they established in season one.
ReplyDeletethis season has been nothing but one long meandering and endless MOW/search for an amazing relic after another in a clunky and repetitious manner. but hey maybe this one episode will fix all that or ya know maybe not. but who cares so long as Abbie and icky do something kind of funny, have a meaningful moment and then mildly accomplish something.
Thanks :) I have no doubt you'll love Monday's episode.
ReplyDeleteAnd, you'll need tissues because something very bad will happen...
Nicole is truly amazing and impressing in the show, true, and "The Akeda" is a perfect show of her talent.
ReplyDeleteAfter that ending, I'm sure the rest of the season will be extraordinary.
Well, I first believe they didn't have a plan, but the episode will put things together, and it'll make more sense. I think I'll rewatch all the episode during the winter break.
ReplyDeleteAn neither Bones or Booth had significant others, when they naturally came together.
ReplyDeleteWell, crap. All right, then, I shall definitely heed your warning and stock up on some tissues for tomorrow :D! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnd you're welcome, too. Yeah, I've been enjoying this season as a whole, so I don't think tomorrow should be any different in that regard :).
I think Abbie and Ichabod could make a great couple. But if that really happens, it's gonna take at least a couple more seasons. Especially since Katrina is still alive and they are working things out. So Katrina would need to die and then there is mourning and getting over it.. and then we will see where we are going. But I could see them as endgame..
ReplyDeleteSuch a great and intriguing review! I personally am kind of hoping that the sacrifice winds up being Crane having to step up and off Henry, as much as I love Henry. I just kind of feel that the crazy parent-hating son - good as John Noble is - has played out at this point. And I'd very much like to see Crane make the decision that there's no saving him and the only answer is to end him. I doubt that's the way it will go, since I think they love the character, but ... it sure would give Crane and Abbie a laser focus on taking out Moloch. No more dilly-dallying around the vengeful son of Crane/Katrina. So excited for tonight. And depressed, since then we're on a break. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteKatrina doesn't need to die. There is something called a divorce
ReplyDeleteSay what.. But somehow I doubt that a divorce is a possibility. It's Sleepy Hollow at first and then their love is just way too strong, even if they're shaken up right now..
