Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

NOTICE
As you can see we are trying out a new table format. This will allow us to enter in the Top 25 Markets (if we get them), as well as additional Demo Numbers for those who are interested in them. Let us know what you think of the new table and if you have any suggestions/comments. If this format proves popular we may look to use it for future ratings posts. These new tables should also work better on mobile devices so that you can scroll the table if it does not fit on your device.

Tables being updated live. Please refresh for updates.

Early Ratings Analysis

The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

For more information on the Nielsen Ratings see this Wikipedia Entry.

NOTE: The opinions expressed here are NOT those of SpoilerTV but of the Author of this Article, Marc Berman.

CBS 10.7/16
NBC 10.5/16

CBS: +55, ABC: – 7, NBC: -15, Fox: -73

———-

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. The overnights are your first look at what to potentially expect when the other results come in. And we always take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence. Keep in mind, as always, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

-Winners:
“Sunday Night Football” (NBC), “2014 American Music Awards” (ABC)

-Viable Older-Skewing Options:
“60 Minutes” (CBS), “Madam Secretary” (CBS), “The Good Wife” (CBS)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Mulaney” (Fox), “Bob’s Burgers” (Fox)

———-

Ratings Breakdown:
CBS actually inched past the normally dominant home of “Sunday Night Football,” NBC, by two-tenths of a rating point (or two percent) thanks to the estimated 18.2 rating/30 share in the household overnights for an approximate 45-minute primetime football overrun. But NBC is a lock for leadership in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics), and ABC was on the map thanks to the “2014 American Music Awards.”

“The 2014 American Music Awards” scored a 7.5 rating/11 share from 8-11 p.m., peaking from 9-10 p.m. with a 7.7/11. Comparably, this was nine percent below the 8.2/12 in the overnights on the year-ago evening, and that translated into 13.14 million viewers and a 4.5 rating/11 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. Given “The American Music Awards” faced football and the older-skewing CBS dramas, there is plenty of available audience in the same time period for different types of programming,

Earlier in the evening on ABC was veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a second-place 4.1/ 7 from 7-8 p.m., which was 17 percent above the 3.5/ 6 on the year-ago evening.

On NBC, the Dallas Cowboys at the New York Giants on “Sunday Night Football” scored an estimated 14.0/22 from 8:30-11:30 p.m., which was five percent above the 13.3/21 in the overnights for New England at Indianapolis one week earlier (which translated into 20.82 million viewers and a 7.1/19 in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data).

Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game “Football Night in America” at a 1.8/ 3 at 7 p.m. (#3t), a 4.5/ 7 at 7:30 p.m. and a 7.9/12 (#2) in the 8 p.m. half-hour.

In time period premiere news, Fox comedy “Mulaney” dipped to a series-low 1.1/ 2 at 7:30 p.m. (#4), which was 39 percent below an encore telecast of lead-in “The Simpsons” (#3t, 1.8/ 3 at 7 p.m.). At this point, Fox is only burning off the remaining episodes of “Mulaney.” With weaker lead-in support, the regularly scheduled telecast of “The Simpsons” dipped to a season-low 2.3/ 3 at 8 p.m., followed by an also season-low 2.0/ 3 (#4) for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” at 8:30 p.m. Fox populated the 9 p.m. half-hour with a repeat of “Family Guy” (#4: 1.7/ 2), followed by temporarily relocated “Bob’s Burgers” at a mere 1.4/ 2 at 9:30 p.m.

CBS, meanwhile, was approximate due to the aforementioned primetime football overrun and appears as follows by half-hour:

CBS/Sunday
7:00 p.m. – Football: 18.4/30 (#1)
7:30 p.m. – Football: 17.9/29 (#1) / “60 Minutes”: 11.7/18 (#1)
8:00 p.m. – “60 Minutes”: 11.5/17 (#1)
8:30 p.m. – “60 Minutes”: 11.2/17 (#2) / “Madam Secretary”: 8.8/13 (#2)
9:00 p.m. – “Madam Secretary”: 8.3/12 (#2)
9:30 p.m. – “Madam Secretary”: 8.8/13 (#2) / “The Good Wife”: 7.4/11 (#2)
10:00 p.m. – “The Good Wife”: 7.4/11 (#3)
10:30 p.m. – “The Good Wife”: 7.8/13 (#2) / “”CSI”: 5.5/ 9 (#3)
11:00 p.m. – “CSI”: 5.5/10
11:30 p.m. – “CSI”: 5.3/11 (to 11:45 p.m. ET)

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

  2. Why is Bob's Burger's listed as a loser?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Whats up with all the Family Guy reruns?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Ikr? Its been a few weeks...

    ReplyDelete
  5. How silent the rating news are without ABC and Cw shows!

    ReplyDelete
  6. They usually only air new FG when FOX has doubleheader game in fall - historically, they are pretty much on usually track - six new episodes before Thanksgiving and then one or two in December - it's been that way since 2010.

    ReplyDelete
  7. My theory is they waited too long to renew it. Family Guy was renewed in May while Bob's Burgers and the Simpsons in September. Animated shows have a long overturn period. Right now FOX is airing leftover episodes of the previous cycle (like the Simpsons crossover) until more new episodes can be produced

  8. Is there a chance for a third season of B99? I just started watching it and I'm not familiar with the ratings of this show.. But hiting a season low can't be good :(

    ReplyDelete
  9. It's certain to be renewed ;) I love the show, enjoy the ride!

    ReplyDelete
  10. It will easily get a 3rd season.

    ReplyDelete
  11. That's the best explanation I've seen so far.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Was there a revenge promo during the AMAs?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Greaaaat :) Thanks for the fast reply :D

    ReplyDelete
  14. Good to hear, thanks for the reply :)

    ReplyDelete
  15. What the hell happened with FOX last night?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mulaney leading into everything instead of Football hurt them pretty bad

    ReplyDelete
  17. They've had nights with no overrun before, it didn't go this badly I think. Oh well

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yeah the show should be pulled entirely.

    ReplyDelete
  19. That is good at least and a OUAT one?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'll be surprised if FOX doesn't do that ASAP

    ReplyDelete
  21. I kind of agree. It should have at least matched its rerun lead-in from Family Guy. It was doing much better in the much worse 7h30 slot. These are just mulaney levels.

    ReplyDelete
  22. i didn't see any for OUAT or resurrection

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't know why FOX brass are being so patient with it. Just pull it already!!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. without overrun they tend to fall a lot, A couple of weeks back the same thing happened

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow that is unusual for abc. Was the revenge promo good?

    ReplyDelete
  26. At 7:30PM Mulaney pulled a 0.7, probably dragging down the entire FOX lineup. No new Family Guy also had an effect on it

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh okay thx for all the Information.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm glad that abc is at least starting to promote it a little bit, cause earlier this season it was as if it didn't even exist

    ReplyDelete
  29. It is true. It makes me happy and Especially since there was no resurrection and OUAT promo, it shows that abc does not only care about those two shows. I am hoping for a 1.3-1.4 on sunday

    ReplyDelete
  30. Maybe they want to hold on to last week's 1.5

    ReplyDelete
  31. I Would be extremly happy if it did. It will anyway rise for the winter finale and If it managed a 1.5 this sunday maybe it could receive a 1.6 next week sunday

    ReplyDelete
  32. Previous episode got a 1.7 in the finals.
This episode got a .9 so far.

    ReplyDelete
  33. i would say that abc still cares about OUAT, cause after all i did see like a few promos of earlier this week. but your right about resurrection though, i think that abc no longer sees the potential in it. Revenge has been nothing but stable this season, and probably with all the things that are happening in revenge, abc sees the potential that it could still bring in stable numbers with just a little bit of promotion and a better lead in.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i hope so, but i think it will go down next week to a 1.3, now that it has resurrection as a lead in again. But thats still good enough for a difficult timeslot and a weak lead in.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Abc definitely cares abour OUAT and they should! And i agree abour resurrection. I hope revenge can pull good numbers this sunday

    ReplyDelete
  36. Impressive for Madame Secretary especially with stiff competition with football and the AMAs!

    ReplyDelete
  37. if it could pull at least a 1.3 this sunday that would be enough for me. cause at least it will mean that its consistent, plus its winter finale is after that week so it will go up, depending on how good this sunday's episode will be.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Once it gets its Family Guy lead in again it will do much better. I think this was just an off week

    ReplyDelete
  39. I gotta say I love the new table, especially because of it having the 3 main age groups.

    ReplyDelete
  40. It's a really cool addition! It makes the whole picture way more clearly

    ReplyDelete
  41. Love the new table... Expected more for AMA's... Maybe Pitbull wasn't best choice for host... Pretty amazing for MS... Making good case for renewal... Will catch up on it if it keeps it up

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yes I saw a OUAT promo at around 30 min into the AMA's. I saw a Revenge promo somewhere at the end. I didn't see a Resurrection one.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That's stupid. Why should it have matched a repeat lead-in?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Really P**s me off I set my recorder for CSI at 9:30 Just like the schedule stated and it did not start untile 11. God I hate CSI on Sundays

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hey there, I really wished that you would have stuck to your word and no longer post on tvbythenumbers. It's pretty awful seeing you getting attacked like this. Those posters started a war to provoke you all, particularly them mocking at Revenge without Revenge airing, and then accuse you for provoking them, particularly this "Guest" person that had ultra stamina so that he/she can get the last word. Just stop replying to them or even go to that site anymore, they get excited every Monday morning to troll you all. It's as if, there is a checklist, and one of the items are "go on tvbythenumbers every Monday to start a comment war with Revenge fans". I think they are excited over that.
The best you can pray for is that Revenge gets renewed for a final season and then brag all over them if that day comes.
