Ratings Breakdown:
CBS remains the network to beat in the Wednesday overnights, with improved ABC and NBC holding the No. 2 and 3 spots, respectively. Vying for first in the key demos are ABC and CBS.
Veteran “Survivor” on CBS, which finally got interesting last night, led the 8 p.m. hour with a 5.9 rating/9 share in households. While that only bested competing “The Mysteries of Laura” on NBC (#2: 5.8/ 9) by one-tenth of a rating point via the overnights, “Survivor’s” advantage in the key young adult demos will be considerably larger. Older-skewing “The Mysteries of Laura,” meanwhile, was 54 percent above year-ago occupant “Revolution” (3.7/ 6 on 11/20/13). And it rose by eight percent from the most recent telecast (5.3/ 8 on Nov. 5). As I always say, the broadcast networks should also recognize the value of attracting older viewers.
SPOILER ALERT…As for “Survivor,” it may not have been the best idea breaking up the alliance of six last night, which could have moved forward had it not been for the dominating Jon and Jaclyn. They blew it.
At 9 p.m. on CBS was long-running “Criminal Minds” at a comfortable 6.7/10 in the overnights, which dipped by 12 percent from the 7.6/12 one year earlier but still managed to win the hour overall in the overnights. ABC sitcoms “”Modern Family” and “Black-ish,” of course, are the competing shows to beat among adults 18-49.
The Eye net capped off the evening with recent drama entry “Stalker,” which built week-to-week by 11 percent (5.0/ 9 vs. 4.5/ 8). Comparably, however, that was still 28 percent below the 6.9/12 for year-ago occupant “CSI” despite finishing first in the hour in the overnights. In other words, “Stalker” at present is not a hit or a miss.
On NBC, “Law & Order: SVU” continues to enjoy renewed interest this season with a 5.3/ 8 in the overnights at 9 p.m. last night (#3) up by 18 percent from the year-ago evening. Given the age of “SVU,” now in season 16, this is quite an impressive feat. Sophomore “Chicago PD” followed with a 4.8/ 8 at 10 p.m. (#2), which outdelivered an edition of “Dateline” on the year-ago evening (3.6/ 6 on 11/20/13) by 33 percent. And retention for “Chicago PD” out of the 9:30 p.m. edition of “SVU” (5.4/ 8) was solid at 89 percent.
On ABC, durable sitcom “The Middle” remained just that at a 5.8/ 9 in the 8 p.m. half-hour (#2), which was equal to one year-earlier. Compatible lead-out “The Goldbergs” dipped slightly to a 5.2/ 8 at 8:30 p.m. (#3), but results in adults 18-49 is expected to be three to fourth-tenths of a rating point higher (translation: about 15 to 20 percent).
Tops on ABC, and No. 1 overall for the evening, was multi-Emmy Award winner “Modern Family” at a 7.5/12 at 9 p.m. And that led into a third-place 5.5/ 9 for freshman “Black-ish” at 9:30 p.m., which at 73 percent overnight retention was considerably better than the 52 percent for failed year-ago time period occupant “Super Fun Night.”
“Nashville” on ABC at 10 p.m. finished third with a 4.1/ 7 in the overnights, which was a slight increase from both one year earlier (4.0/ 7) and last week (3.9/ 7). Given the need for more episodes in off-network, chances of a fourth season of “Nashville” are very probable.
Elsewhere, Fox got a slight boost week-to-week, with overnight household growth of eight percent care of “Hell’s Kitchen” (#4: 3.1/ 5 at 8 p.m.) and freshman drama “Red Band Society” (#4: 2.1/ 3 at 9 p.m.). But the pair, on average, were still 38 percent below the 4.2/ 7 for two-hours of “The X Factor” on the year-ago evening. CW dramas “Arrow” (#5: 2.0/ 5) and sophomore “The 100” (#5: 1.2/ 3), meanwhile, were flat from one week earlier. Year-to-year, “The 100” was down by one-tenth of a rating point (or eight percent) from failed year-ago time period occupant “The Tomorrow People.”

What is wrong with People! Why arent they watching The100! Last night was brilliant! I need a 0.6 final ratings tonight! Dont let me down!
ReplyDelete"As I always say, the broadcast networks should also recognize the value of attracting older viewers."--> LOL Mark, advertisers don't care!!
ReplyDeleteDo you think Stalker will return next year ?
ReplyDeleteThe Middle, &The Goldbergs again hit season highs in the overnights. Hope it translates to increases in the demo. Modern Family seems up too.
ReplyDeleteI hope we get a 0.6 for The 100 today and that it doesn't adjust down
ReplyDeleteSVU and CPD didn't retain as much from the crossover event compared to Chicago Fire.
ReplyDeleteStrangely The Mysteries of Laura looks like it's up? I'm going to laugh if TMOL is doing better than State of Affairs in the Spring.
Of course Heigl can go back to her successful film career once SOA is cancelled.
Probably not. But I'm going to enjoy it while it last.
ReplyDeletethe 100 has been for the last couple of episode at 0.54 so its close to that 0.6 perhaps today is the day
ReplyDeleteI'm just laughing so much at Mark Berman. He's a passive aggressive pansy, I'll give him that.
ReplyDeleteHis remarks are so comical! They make reading the HH overnights that much more enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteWill have to look at the demos for SVU & CPD since even Chicago Fire went from a 5.9 to a 4.8 but only dropped a tenth in the demo but I think you are right. However, it looks like CPD had better retention out of SVU.
ReplyDeleteTell me about it!
ReplyDeleteTMOL likely did low 1s and gets a Honorable mention?!? Yet OUAT hardly gets any
ReplyDeleteBut remember Stalker, if you are a freshman drama who is not a hit on CBS in a season where they did get legitimate hits, that's essentially the same as a miss.
ReplyDeleteBoth will probably be up a few tenths compared to 2 weeks ago, but that will be a combination of less competition (no CMAs obviously) and whatever couple of tenths were picked up from the crossover.
ReplyDeleteBut I think both will be down about a half rating point from last week unlike Chicago Fire which was only down a tenth.
As I always say, the broadcast networks should also recognize the value of attracting older viewers.
ReplyDeleteYeah, not happening.
And none gives a dam about his Survivor analysis, either. We only care about the ratings.
Berman is biased about old skewing shows.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Stalker won't get a second season.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad because Stalker is actually pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI predict Stalker is CBS' only freshman drama not getting a 2nd season.
ReplyDeleteBattle Creek probably won't either.
ReplyDeleteCyber's chances aren't looking that good either. Not an easy timeslot.
ReplyDeleteI edited my post to say fall freshman drama. I don't expect any midseason drama renewed.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that. It looks like the PR department at CBS is already spinning Madam Secretary' numbers in order to justify a renewal.
ReplyDeleteDamn I was hoping for an uptick to 1.0 for Arrow!!! Maybe when the finals come in
ReplyDeleteThe 100 has to adjust up just once at least!!! And even Captain Kirk is watching the show :)))
ReplyDeleteThat's if they go ahead with Sundays at 10pm for Cyber.
ReplyDeleteNot complaining since I really like the show, but how is RBS still around? FOX usually axes shows very quickly with the kind of ratings it's getting.
ReplyDeleteThey cut CSI's order for Cyber. I don't know where else it could go.
ReplyDeleteNo idea where they are going to put Battle Creek either.
It does have a very strong DVR following :D
ReplyDeleteThey quietly cancelled it by not giving it a back-order and putting Empire in it's slot.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think Elementary will move by mid-season, that 1.0 last week was very poor. If Stalker keeps declining that could also move. Battle Creek would be a good fit for CBS' summer programming.
ReplyDeleteArrow - 1.0 - 1.1 Demo, 2.60 - 2.80 million viewers.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 - 0.5 - 0.6 Demo, 1.65 - 1.90 million viewers.
Are these actual or a predication?
ReplyDeleteprediction!
ReplyDeleteBattle Creek seems a bit expensive for summer. Has some big names.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a prediction.
ReplyDeleteHuge increase for CPD compared to 2 weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteIs the 2.0/5 a mistake because the /5 seems rather high for Arrow when it usually gets 2.0/3 or 2.1/3.
ReplyDeleteNice rebound for ABC!!
ReplyDeletewhat did it get 2 weeks ago?
ReplyDeleteWtf modern family 4.3 in top 25. That is really high and nashville seems to be steady so probably a 1.4
ReplyDelete1.3 adjusted to 1.4
ReplyDeleteit should be up by around three tenths
ReplyDeleteThe show isn't canceled yet....they could be moving it to a different time spot
ReplyDeleteBetween the crossover with The Flash and the midseason finale, Arrow should hopefully see a ratings increase in the next two episodes. Seems like only "special" episodes are able to give Arrow a 1.0 or higher.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Arrow-0.9 and The 100-0.5.I wish the 100 rated higher, the show is so good!
ReplyDeleteOf all people he should know total viewers don't matter and advertisers prefer young skewing shows.
ReplyDeleteABC should move Nashville and launch a new drama at 10 given the strength of Blackish
ReplyDeleteAre you serious?
ReplyDeleteNashville is always stable, it's crazy
ReplyDeleteABC appears to be very high in all hours except for Blackish which is actually down from last week's top25.
ReplyDeleteThe CW appears the same, sadly.
Next season, likely. Nashville will get renewed and probably banished to Sunday 10pm?
ReplyDeleteits one of the lowest rated show on tv- its gone
ReplyDeleteIt would be awesome to see Goldbergs beat Black-ish in the demo.
ReplyDeleteit looks like cbs may have taken a hit
ReplyDeleteDon't think Blackish will be effective for launching a new show.
ReplyDeleteBlacklish will likely will shift to 8:30pm so that Modern Family can launch a new show.
ReplyDeleteNashville is not any higher as well
ReplyDeleteIKR but that is good. I wish revenge was as stable even though it did hit a 1.5 on sunday :)
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait for scandal and murder tonight!!!!
ReplyDeleteYES! Last nights Middle was hilarious, glad to see it rise. And seems that the Goldbergs is gonna do good too. What are your predictions for A18-49. I'm thinking 2.1-2.4?
ReplyDeleteYesterday Chicago Fire got a 1.7 in Top 25, and hit a 2.0 and ended the day with a 2.1. Hope the same happens with Chicago PD
ReplyDeleteYes but Revenge also has a timeslot much more difficult than Nashville. The lead-in difference by itself is abysmal.
ReplyDeletedo you think Goldbergs will go back to being an anchor next year? I kind of think it depends on if FOTB gets renewed or not. Otherwise I think they should just leave things intact and try to get blackish to syndication, since the anchors are already there, and Goldbergs is all but certain to get there
ReplyDeleteMy predictions:
ReplyDelete- The Middle: 2.2/2.3
- The Goldbergs: 2.4
- Modern Family: 3.6
- Blachish: 2.4
I know right? Especially Murder, it will be insane
ReplyDeleteI would love to see that!
ReplyDeleteIf The Middke gets a 2.3 I'd be so happy! I'm sick of these high 1s...
ReplyDeleteI disagree, it's perfectly capable of providing the necessary casual viewing to support a new show. I wish they would have placed American Crime there instead of Thursdays, I really don't see that show fitting with Scandal's high pace.
ReplyDeleteTuesday:
ReplyDeleteThe Middle
New Comedy
Wednesday:
Goldbergs
Black-ish
Modern Family
New Comedy
New Drama
exactly what I was going to say! Where would you put Nashville? I say Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteI think it's possible that CBS burns off the remaining Stalker Sundays at 10 and launches Cyber Wednesdays at 10, much like they did with Golden Boy | Vegas a couple of years ago.
ReplyDeleteNop
ReplyDeleteYeees but i live in Germany and cannot watch until tomorrow so i will look at the ratings but definitely not at the comments
ReplyDeleteI wish The Goldberg's final numbers would look that good. It's a great show and could be a great example of what can happen to a good show if the network sticks with it and schedules it intelligently.
ReplyDeleteIt is true and revenge is already in season 4
ReplyDeleteNashville skews exclusively female AOS skews exclusively male. Not a good combo.
ReplyDeleteLooking good for The Middle, The Goldbergs, & Modern Family!
ReplyDeleteI think we have to watch with somebody in case it's much for us to handle.
ReplyDeleteThey'll have us on our toes.
It's been very close the last weeks:
ReplyDeleteRatings so far have been:
- 2x01: 0.50
- 2x02: 0.47
- 2x03: 0.54
- 2x04: 0.54
In reality, there really isn't any practical difference for its survival chances between a 0.54 or a 0.56 or so which would a lack of adjustment probably mean. It's just that it hurts more to see the 0.5
I'm going to try to stay up and watch Murder live.
ReplyDeleteI love it when shows are that good that you get nervous. All drama/thriller shows i watch (revenge, Scandal, murder) all make me nervous. The winter finales will be so epic. Also from revenge. But HTGAWM has been such an amazing show
ReplyDeleteI cannot watch it live since i live in Germany which sucks but okay i have to not go on the Internet
ReplyDeleteYou can go and watch Scandal!
ReplyDeleteI think AC is too dark and gritty to follow ABC's Wednesday comedy block.
ReplyDeleteWasn't Golden Boy on Friday?
ReplyDeleteKerry Washington's overacting and screaming would probably keep me up.
ReplyDeleteSee? The perfect TV night for you.
ReplyDeleteNo, they didn't. There's been no decision made about giving the show a back order or not. Also, unless Red Band airs straight through December, there'll be episodes left over that'll have to air somewhere. My guess is that they finish the run on Friday, which is where they would have had to move anyway if they got more episodes.
ReplyDeleteOne of the reasons ABC is doing well this year so far is compatibility, which they haven't had in some time. Now that they've fixed they're night, I actually wouldn't be surprised to see them keep things the same. Plus, blackish will have the MF leadin to get it through a good S2, which in turn would lead to syndication. If FOTB does get renewed though, then I think The Middle will be on the move
ReplyDeleteChicago PD held ground!!! 1.8!! from last week! thats great!
ReplyDeleteExactly. Last year at this time it pulled a 1.6. It and Trophy Wife could have done so much better last year if scheduled right.
ReplyDeleteI would take these results (especially for The 100) :)
ReplyDeleteTuesday at 10. I believe it was suppose to move to Fridays but it never happened.
ReplyDeleteTrophy Wife would still be cancelled.
ReplyDeleteI think ABC should schedule a new dramedy there to keep the theme going, kind of like Ugly Betty back during midseason 2009-2010
ReplyDeleteI don't think that makes a difference since Nashville is on Season 3.
ReplyDeleteA 2.0 would have been all it needed. It was an ABC Studios production, after all, along with Neighbors and Mixology. I'm sure they wished they had the opportunity to justify a renewal for any of them, and Mixology abviously wasn't working
ReplyDeleteActually, that is not true anymore, look at the number of shows created that are aimed at older adults... Madam Secretary, NCIS LA, Mysteries of Laura. The younger demo is shinking as a % of the population and is mired in debt, it's the boomers with the disposable income.
ReplyDeleteFrom the business section of the LA Times:
Executives at NBC, CBS and ABC are especially keen on the tech-savvy alpha boomers, according to Alan Wurtzel, president of research and media development at NBC Universal.
As consumers, they spend considerably more on home improvement, credit cards, travel and beauty products than do younger cohorts. Their image-consciousness makes them ideal consumers, said Wurtzel: "If alpha boomers aren't vain, I don't know who is."
The major broadcast networks aren't the first to figure out there's money to be made off boomers: On cable, there are a growing number of networks eager to attract their eyeballs — TV Land, Encore Classic, RLTV and MeTV.
Yeah, I remember now. CBS aired one episode on Friday as a test too.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't think shows are specifically "created" for older demo. CBS's shows naturally skew old, but they'd love to bank in more younger viewers.
ReplyDeleteHe watches nearly all CW shows
ReplyDeletegreat for abc!
ReplyDeleteArrow 0.9, the 100 0.6
ReplyDeletedoesn't look like PD got a huge boost from the crossover
ReplyDeleteSurvivor: 2.4
ReplyDeleteCM: 2.3
Stalker: 1.7
It's up 3 tenths from it preliminary rating 2 weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteAlmost the entirety of ABC's line-up is up year to year:
ReplyDelete- Last year, Back in the Game did a 1.6; this year, TG pulls a 2.4
- Modern Family did a 3.4, this year, a 3.7;
- SFN did a 1.8; this year, Blackish does a 2.6
The Middle is down by one tenth year-to-year and Nashville by one.
it is up which is good but compared to Fire which was down a tenth and build off a 1.3 lead in, this doesn't look as great
ReplyDeleteHalf hours for the CW:
ReplyDeleteArrow: 0.9/0.9
The 100: 0.6/0.6
Yeah, I don't think shows are specifically "created" for older demo. CBS's shows naturally skew old, but they'd love to grab onto more younger viewers.
ReplyDeletePredictions?
ReplyDeleteTables are fully updated
ReplyDeletePlease please please no adjust down for The 100
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't wanna be too happy for The 100 until the finals come in.
ReplyDeleteFor adjustments? No adjustments
ReplyDeleteGlad that Stalker got up :)
ReplyDeleteModern Family is one tenth away of matching it's season premiere. It did a 3.8 (revised down due to Nielsen's glitch)
ReplyDeleteWow great night im ratings for Almost everything
ReplyDeleteHopefully The Middle adjusts up, I don't really get why it skews older than The Goldbergs. Wasn't expecting blackish to stay so high.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 got a 0.6 on both half hours. Please, please keep it this time! And grow on it!
ReplyDeleteThey did have a brilliant night.
ReplyDeleteEspecially fantastic for Modern Family, considering it was the second biggest outing this year, with only the premiere rating higher (by a tenth, so the difference might be nullified when the finals come out).
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the Goldbergs is up 8 tenthhs year-to-year pending adjustments
ReplyDeleteI knew you would ask them ;)
ReplyDeleteYay for Stalker!
ReplyDeleteExactly. Fantastic night for ABC.
ReplyDeleteI hope so. I really like it.
ReplyDeleteLooks like today will be day the 100 will get that 0.6 we all have been waiting for!
ReplyDeleteLet's not get ahead of ourselves. Let's wait for finals.
ReplyDeleteI hope stalker gets renewed although i do not watch it and hated the premiere. I like maggie Q that is why
ReplyDeleteI should not get my hopes up for The 100 until the finals come in.
ReplyDeleteMe too! I watch the show for Maggie Q!
ReplyDeleteABC is having a great year even wirh selfie and MLS cancelled and forever and cristela on the verge of cancellation
ReplyDeleteAlso, Stalker seems back to its old level.
ReplyDeleteis T100 up or down in viewers week on week?
ReplyDeleteCPD got 2.2 last week.That's 4/10th drop.
ReplyDeleteStill so far looks good.Hope is what we have for now!
ReplyDeleteModern family did quite good, happy for them!
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who misses TPPT?
ReplyDeleteIt was a crossover last week. It's up 3 tenths from its last original non-crossover episode.
ReplyDeleteI'm just saying that you shouldn't get your hopes massively up, that's all.
ReplyDeletethe what?
ReplyDeleteThe Tomorrow People, I'm assuming.
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Do you see a 4+ in Modern Family's future given how high this episode did?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't think shows are specifically "created" for older demo. CBS's shows naturally skew old, but they'd love to grab onto more younger viewers.
ReplyDeleteAh Stalker! This is a good sign. Something of an underdog at CBS.
ReplyDeleteIts better than hitting a 1.4, and, a 1.8 after the crossover when people claimed it was going to drop back very low 1's.
ReplyDeleteThe Middle, The Goldbergs, & Modern Family did fantastic!
ReplyDeleteSo did it hit a 1.6 or a 1.8, im going with what the site posted, they seemed to be on point, they where with SofA
ReplyDelete1.6
ReplyDeleteThey did a 1.6.
ReplyDeleteA 1.8 was what the show got in the top 25 markets.
still bad for a new show.. CBS is cancelling first the new shows which are underperforming.. That's definitely the case of Stalker... CSI was doing better there last year.
ReplyDeleteit never did low 1s-its norm is mid 1s it doing its regular numbers
ReplyDeleteThey did. Particularly MF.
ReplyDeleteJeeez
ReplyDeleteWhat?
ReplyDeleteYes i meant sorry my dumb spell checker
ReplyDeleteBut one can pray
ReplyDeleteit might - it may finally be getting its syndication boost
ReplyDeleteNote: it had its highest rating on usa this week
What is TPPT?
ReplyDeleteLast time was Oct 2014. It would need a special event episode so something with a huge lead in. Can't see it myself otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. Sept-Dec is the only time when Modern Family does its biggest numbers and since its almost midseason and thats when the ratings start getting weaker, I dont think its gonna happen.
ReplyDeleteThe Pig Pang Theory ? :)
ReplyDeleteMy mantra-hope for the best, prepare for the worst. For TVD this season, this rule is working very well for me!
ReplyDeleteNope. I think MF has hit it peak, like TBBT.
ReplyDeleteWhat's that?
ReplyDeleteStill have to laugh at this :)))
ReplyDeleteDown, I think.
ReplyDelete1.7 is the highest 10pm rating on CBS for the past few weeks (on any night) as far as I'm aware. Not that it's anything to get too excited about. Among the new dramas, the new NCIS and Scorpion are outperforming it and while Madam Secretary is a little behind it has the advantage of being an in-house production unlike Stalker. At the moment all close enough to change by Spring.

CBS usually batch renews in March.
ReplyDeleteDamn CPD! I was hoping a 1.8 :(
ReplyDeleteBut at least is up from 2 weeks ago.
CW press release:
ReplyDeleteLast night's Arrow
held even with last week in both A18-34 (0.8/3) and A18-49 (0.9/3),
while rising +40% among W18-34 (0.7/3) and +14% in W18-49 (0.8/2). Arrow also gained slightly week to week in total viewers (2.63M).
Arrow was #2 (tie) in M18-34 (1.0/4) in the hour.
THE 100
hit season highs in all key demos last night, jumping +25% week to week
in A18-34 (0.5/2), +20% in A18-49 (0.6/2), and +25% in W18-34 (0.5/2).
It was THE 100's best A18-49 rating since 6/4/14, and its best M18-34 (0.6/2) rating since its series premiere in March.
For the night, The CW's Wednesday rose
+17% in A18-34 (0.7/3) over last week, +20% in W18-34 (0.6/2), and was
even in A18-49 (0.7/2). The CW beat both NBC and Fox for the night in
M18-34 (0.8/3).
ya,i guess you're right.Any amount of boost is positive news for them.
ReplyDeleteAny increasement is welcome, as long as The 100 keeps climbing up I'm good, it's better that than staying the same or going down
ReplyDeleteYaY The 100.. At last!!! I thought Arrow would hit 1.0. But 0.9 is still good.
ReplyDeleteI think it would've survived if they didn't make the poor choice to keep BATB.
ReplyDeleteThe Tomorrow People.
ReplyDeleteHa. The Tomorrow People.
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean it is going to stay like this because The CW was posting this?
ReplyDeleteit can change in the finals. Every network releases them early to brag about the increase in demos and viewers.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least The Goldbergs got a chance. I think it was the stronger of the two shows commercially and I think the numbers did reflect that a bit even last year.
ReplyDeleteI actually think both were commercially good. Arguably Trophy Wife had a more well-known cast too, but nonetheless I'm glad they made Goldbergs work and didn't cancel all the freshman shows I watched last year (that's rigt, I went one for four. Pretty bad, huh?)
ReplyDeleteYes. Hahahaha I was typing too quickly. LOL
ReplyDeleteI meant TTP. Lmfao
ReplyDeleteOk.I thought u discovered some great show we all had no idea about!LOL!
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks you had reason to be hopeful!
