Ratings Breakdown:
“The Big Bang Theory” on CBS topped this typical Thursday, with a 10.7 rating/17 share in the household overnights at 8 p.m. But it was not enough to lead the Eye net to nightly victory, with dominant ABC holding a 16 percent advantage. ABC, the most improved network on Thursday, featured its regularly scheduled “TGIT” rotation of dramas “Grey’s Anatomy” (#3: 6.4/10), “Scandal” (#1: 7.8/12) and “How To Get Away With Murder” (#1: 7.0/12). Needless to say, moving both “Grey’s” and “Scandal” up by one hour this season has been a rousing success for the alphabet net.
Scheduled out of “The Big Bang Theory,” CBS’ sophomore “Mom” continues to post noticeable growth (versus formerly airing Monday at 9:30 p.m. out of “2 Broke Girls”), with a first-place 6.9/11 at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, that was on par with year-ago time period occupant “The Millers,” but – similar to “The Millers” – the overnight retention out of “The Big Bang Theory” was only 64 percent.
Next on the Eye net was veteran “Two and a Half Men” (#2: 5.8/ 9), which exits this spring, followed by episode three of “The McCarthys” at a 4.4/ 7 at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, this was one-tenth of a rating point (or two percent) below the 4.5/ 7 one week earlier. And that 4.5 overnight household rating translated into a modest 6.67 million viewers and a 1.5 rating/4 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. Comparably, “The McCarthys” slipped by 24 percent in the overnights from the 5.8/ 9 on the year-ago evening for former time period occupant “Two and a Half Men,” and its retention out of Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher last night was so-so at 76 percent.
At 10 p.m., CBS’ “Elementary” finished in the distant No. 2 spot with a 4.5/ 8, which 21 percent below the 5.7/10 one year earlier.
Elsewhere, the overnight results were minimum. Fox’s veteran “Bones” continues to erode as the Thursday anchor this season, with a 3.6/ 6 at 8 p.m. And it led into a typically minuscule 2.2/ 3 at 9 p.m. for limited drama “Graceland.” “The Biggest Loser” on NBC has also not benefited opening Thursday, with a fourth-place 2.8/ 4 from 8-9 p.m. And that led into canceled 9-10 p.m. sitcoms “Bad Judge” (#3: 2.6/ 4) and “A To Z” (#4: 1.7/ 3), followed by soon-to-conclude “Parenthood” at a 2.7/ 5 at 10 p.m. (#3). The ongoing positive for “Parenthood” remains the double-digit growth in the key demos out of “A To Z.”
Capping off the night was CW combo “The Vampire Diaries” (#5: 1.4/ 2), which slipped by 22 percent from the year-ago evening (1.8/ 3 on 11/14/13), and sophomore “Reign” (#5: 0.9/ 1), which dropped by 36 percent (from the 1.4/ 2 one year earlier).

Scandal seems to be up from last week.
ReplyDeleteHTGAWM seems up however these haven't been the most reliable especially this week.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like ABC entire line up is up
ReplyDeleteABC reigns Thursdays now
ReplyDeleteI think that was already a safe bet.
ReplyDeleteIt would appear so.
ReplyDeleteI expect some big numbers next week as well
ReplyDeleteHow big are those markets, exactly?
ReplyDelete(And CBS just can't seem to catch a break this week, lol)
So ABC is now winning Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, they must be thrilled. They only need to fix Tuesdays and Sundays and they are set.
ReplyDeleteThis week, it seems that they will only win Thursdays and Fridays since NBC took Wednesday due to the crossover event.
ReplyDeleteOk we can be sure Elementary will be cancelled...
ReplyDeletenah it has its syndication deal. It will have its 4 seasons.
ReplyDeleteThree million dollars per episode will guarantee Elementary a fourth season. Perhaps, even if a fifth should CBS feel so inclined.
ReplyDeleteEven if it is burned off on Saturdays the show will keep coming back. 3 million is enough incentive to keep the show on the air
ReplyDeleteGracepoint*
ReplyDeleteSunday at 10, here it comes!
ReplyDeleteNot that big but still worth noting.
ReplyDeletePretty much lol, except for Survivor & Criminal Minds.
Wow. Go ABC! I have some catching up to do. And I almost feel like I should go back and watch Grey's, which I haven't watched in years. The whole Thursday night lineup almost feels like you should watch it in a block. It's really incredible what they've achieved demographically with Thursday nights. Calls to mind NBC Thursdays waaaay back when.
ReplyDeleteMarc labeling Mom a winner really just shows his bias. He's labeled shows losers before with that kind of retention from TBBT and it is currently losing over 40% of TBBT's audience in the demo.
ReplyDeleteAnd he calls a 76% retention a so-so.
ReplyDeleteI may not watch The McCarthys nor I care for it, but 76% retention is not so-so. The demos may be
Why did Elementary get a 3 million dollar deal? I don't understand
ReplyDeleteNo one knows.
ReplyDeleteI mean was it ever a big hit? I know it used to do respectable
ReplyDeleteNot really. it was doing mid 2's during the fall but after the SB, it came back doing low 2's.
ReplyDeleteEven the mighty crumble.
ReplyDeleteDespite winning Wednesdays and Fridays, ABC still has problems on those nights. Modern Family declining, Nashville & Cristela doing poorly. DWTS is still doing ok on Mondays, however Castle isn't holding up as well.
ReplyDeleteNashville doing mid 1's is not that bad. Sure, there's potential to grow and I think ABC should take advantage of Blackish (a show that actually seems capable of developing into a hit for the network) but Nashville is doing a decent enough job for now.
ReplyDeleteHowever, their problems on Tuesdays (where it finished absolute last) and Sundays are far more pressing than fixing Wednesdays and Friday's rather minimal problems.
Reign dont drop from 05 lets make the CW have a though desicion regarding who the gonna cancel xD
ReplyDeleteWe all told you before that it's guaranteed to get at least 4 seasons.
ReplyDeleteLast Reign episode was the best so far, no doubt. Oh God! I hope for 0.5 at least.
ReplyDeleteI would really like to find out.
ReplyDeleteWhy did they have to move TBBT to Thursdays? Bones doesn't have a chance against both Grey's and TBBT. Yet Bones is much more quality than TBBT. The cast and crew deserve much better :(
ReplyDeleteThe moves around did more to damage it than TBBT and Grey's.
ReplyDeleteFOX should have just left Bones on Fridays.
ReplyDeleteThe moves really did damage TBBT too this season.
ReplyDeleteI understand the logic on CBS' part but did they really think that even TBBT would be impervious to that kind of moving around?
ReplyDeleteQuality is subjective.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to guess I'd say because it's a procedural and those usually repeat well. Also it had the post-Super-Bowl slot 2 years ago so maybe that factored into the price?
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of a show benefitting in its syndication deal just because it god the SB slot.
ReplyDeleteIt's the only thing that makes sense. Elementary's ratings have never been great, so there's really no other factor to warrant the $3 million deal.
ReplyDeletewe'll never know :/
ReplyDeleteTrue, but in this case - TBBT is about laughing and popularity, while Bones is much deeper, it has much stronger storylines and its inspirational. With TBBT it's really just about laughing - I do watch both show, I'm a fan of both, too, but...
ReplyDeleteGraceland isn't even on a broadcast network! If Graceland pulled Gracepoint numbers on USA, it would be considered pretty successful
ReplyDeletelmao, I just noticed it.
ReplyDeleteReminds me when Marc kept messing up on Happy Town.
It's premiere grew from a good Person of Interest lead in, but it literally was disappointing for every episode after
ReplyDeleteIt is procedural, but it doesn't repeat exceptionally well at all.
ReplyDeleteIt's always been one of CBS's lower rates procedurals. Not even the Super Bowl could help it.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, they might as well move it back there. Fox is a disaster right now, other than Gotham, right? And Sleepy Hollow is hanging in there for now. But I hope the new series in its back pocket (Backstrom, Wayward Pines, Empire) catch on. Desperate times. (And I still miss Almost Human.)
ReplyDeleteWow CBS is having a rough week- I wonder if they will move out of the procedural genre? I feel people are more into serialized these days
ReplyDeleteSuper Bowl hardly ever helps any show out. In the last decade or so, only two shows benefitted from it.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I don't even remember seeing CBS repeat it much, and that's probably why.
ReplyDeleteThe only shows that were "helped" were shows that were already strong on their respective networks.
ReplyDeleteThe super bowl can't take a low performing show and make it a hit (New Girl, B99, Elementary).
No, Undercover boss premiered after the Super Bowl and is still doing an okay-ish job. And I was talking about the scripted side of things.
ReplyDeleteI really hope that HH rating means that Bones still got at least a 1.3.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if ABC had Superbowl if they would have given it to Scandal?
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt in my mind that they would have.
ReplyDeleteThey actually insisted on repeating it after a usually 2.0+ Big Brother this summer when it was getting .5-.7's!
ReplyDeleteI mean, I rather like the show – it's one of only three network shows I actually watch. But it's not the kind of procedural I would think would do well in syndication. It's sorta quiet and slow and while it's often subtly funny, it doesn't have the same kind of humorous banter as NCIS, other procedurals.
ReplyDeleteSo, in short ... I have no clue.
i would say they would give it to SHIELD.
ReplyDeleteIdk. They probably would try to capitalize on Scandal's enormous growth to see if they could push it even higher.
ReplyDeleteScandal is way too serialized
ReplyDeleteI think so, too.
ReplyDeleteI think it may have something to do with the Sherlock brand, which has seen a spike in popularity in the last few years. Perhaps they feel it will benefit from that in future syndication because clearly the current ratings had nothing to do with that price
ReplyDeletethat would be a waste of time I think
ReplyDeleteI would go with Scandal, Modern Family/Blackish or even OUAT
So is Grey's, and they still showed it after the Super Bowl. I don't think that's a problem. However, I don't think Scandal would be the show, and I don't think SHIELD would benefit.
ReplyDeleteGrey's is nowhere near as serialized as Scandal.
ReplyDeleteNot a chance. No serialized drama has ever been a hit for CBS. They repeat horribly and go against CBS' whole syndication factory surgery. Look at Person of Interest. It went from procedural to serialized and declined like crazy. January 2013 it saw a 3.4 and now November of 2014 its already down to a 1.3.
ReplyDeleteGrey's was in it's second season back then.
ReplyDeleteSerialized shows can be tooled to be easily accessible to new viewers after the superbowl (Alias, Grey's, both ABC shows did that). I really don't think anything will fix Shield at this point and ABC probably knows that too. Scandal and HTGAWM are the two buzziest shows on TV, I think they'd definitely opt to have one of them air and benefit from the spike
ReplyDeleteTrue, and GA was still quite fresh at that time.
ReplyDeletewell ABC=Disney. MF isnt their production so it would probably be out. I would say they would try with the most male skewing option. Ergo SHIELD:
ReplyDeleteBut Grey's was in it's it second season back then.
ReplyDeleteCrazy high number for Scandal. A 3.9. More likely, a 3.1-3.3?
ReplyDeleteCould HTGAWM be an option? What do you think?
ReplyDeleteyup just imagine next week
ReplyDeleteHTGAWM most likely did 2,9ish but should crack that 3 next week
Besides TBBT CBS top market numbers are ugly
ReplyDeleteImagining that these are inflated - uglier is ugly.
ReplyDeleteI think ABC has the most to benefit from SHIELD.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this is all hypothetical since ABC is not getting Superbowl anytime soon.
Sadly, ABC doesn't get to air the SB in the current deal package. And I don't see HTGAWM making it to the 2021-22 (where, presumably, the pack would be renegotiated and ABC has a tiny chance of getting in)
ReplyDeleteNo way.
ReplyDeleteThe Fast Nationals for CBS will be inflated. I don't think the Top 25 are inflated.
ReplyDeleteOh, okay. If that's the case, still.. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! I didn't know about the deal. Yeah, I think murder will have 6 or 7 seasons tops.
ReplyDeleteConsidering Scandal seems to jump two tenths for every finale it has (except the S2 finale which stayed the same as the last episode - but that one grew over sixth tenths from the previous one), I think depending on where it ends up in the finals, we could be looking at Scandal posting anywhere in the mid 3's.
ReplyDeleteOMG,elementary.I think it will score below 1 today after final adjustment!Yikes!
ReplyDeleteCBS tends to go up from TOP 25
ReplyDeleteI hope so,these early numbers are scary.
ReplyDeletei think they would've give that spot to HTGAWM Scandal doesnt need it and how murder is a new show theycould use the boost.
ReplyDeletewell the preemptions doesnt help Thursdays on CBS.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with everything you said about Bones.
ReplyDeleteThe bones writers are killing the show with destroying B and B's work partnership and having boring agent Aubrey in every other scene. On the other hand what current show or midseason replacement would do any better against the big bang theory and grays?
ReplyDeleteYikes elementary!!! I gave up on the show in the second season anyway but that looks bad.
ReplyDelete"At this point, they might as well move it back there."
ReplyDeleteI really hope they do move Bones back there. I want it away from TBBT; it's killing it, IMO
Honestly, Elementary would be far more compatible with TGW than CSI, which has a higher male audience (and shouldn't be opposite football). I still can't believe CBS ordered more scripts of TMcC. What are they thinking?
ReplyDeleteThe post-SB slot was a disaster because of the 45-minute delay due to the power outage. It aired so late, it didn't really get the sampling that CBS was hoping for.
ReplyDeleteBut that's only this week though, I can't see NBC mantaining those numbers
ReplyDeleteTVD 0.7, Reign 0.4
ReplyDeleteGA 2.4
ReplyDeleteScandal 3.2
HTGAWM: 2.9
Scandal gets a 2.7 in the 18-34. Incredibly young skewing show.
ReplyDeleteTBBT 4.5
ReplyDeleteMom 2.8
2 and a half men: 2.2
McCarthys: 1.6
Elementary 1.2
Bones 1.2
ReplyDeleteGracepoint: 0.8
Nashville is actually doing better than I expected. I think they should the put the Shark Tank spin-off on Tuesdays, along with SHIELD, The Middle and a new comedy, with The Goldbergs taking the 8pm slot on wednesdays. I know it's a risk moving The Middle away from the wednesday comedy block, but I think it has it loyal following.
ReplyDeleteI give you credit for sticking with it! And yeah, another move would probably not help. Fox seriously needs to clear out its stable and figure out how to reinvent itself. It's got a real flop-sweat stench going right now. Sundays still ok, and Mondays are decent. Maybe master Chef Jr. can boost one of the mid season entries. I'm at least interested in checking those out.
ReplyDeletePleaseee no adjust for tbbt & mom and mccarthys
ReplyDeleteunfortunately it will CBS was preempted in 2 market
ReplyDeleteexpect 1-2 tenth adjustments for CBS. Could end up being a series high for Mom though in the finals.
ReplyDeleteOuch Bones.
ReplyDeleteFull tables posted
ReplyDeleteMom is gonna adjust down but 2.5+ should be good.
ReplyDeleteHow can I refresh the tables because nothing appears? :(
ReplyDeleteSeries high for Mom !
ReplyDeleteTry CTRL-F5 to force a full refresh
ReplyDeletePending adjustment. CBS was pre-empted again.
ReplyDeleteI really hope TPTB move Bones come January.
ReplyDeleteGreat scandal :) was it good last night? I will watch it tonight.
ReplyDeleteThe 100 beats Reign again!
ReplyDeleteTBBT is slowly getting its groove back
ReplyDeleteNO :(
ReplyDeleteCBS preempted in 2 markets
ReplyDeleteWhile I have nothing against Reign, I'm happy to see that The 100 is not at the bottom
ReplyDeleteDidn't know about that; still, TBBT is hardly ever affected by that
ReplyDeleteSame here.
ReplyDeleteAwful for FOX and NBC
ReplyDeletethey should keep mom on thursday and just cancel the millers doesnt deserve high ratings just because of TBBT
ReplyDeleteParenthood. :( Last night's episode was so good.
ReplyDeleteOh I didn't know, thanks !
ReplyDeleteBecause its only pre-empted by the pre-game show and that never does as well.
ReplyDeleteCBS should just put The McCarthys out of it's misery.
ReplyDeleteReign was so good last night!Such a shame!
ReplyDeleteHalf-hours anyone?
Fox and CBS are doing really bad during November sweeps so far.
ReplyDeleteI believe NBC and ABC have won every night of November sweeps?
For Reign, a 0.4 in both
ReplyDeleteTVD?
ReplyDeleteBut but but they ordered more scripts!

ReplyDeleteIt'll probably adjust up.
ReplyDeleteWhich means sure cancellation moving ahead now-a-days!LOL!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY FOR TVD!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU MY GOD! HAPPY FOR TVD!
ReplyDeleteGo Elementary :(
ReplyDeleteWhy?It tied it's series low.
ReplyDeleteSo did ABC for Selfie and MLS
ReplyDeleteAs far as the preliminaries goes, Mom outdelivered The Miller's result from last year even with a weaker TBBT; of course, since CBS was pre-empted, we'll have to wait till the finals
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad not to fall!

great jump for GREYS
ReplyDeleteYou are an optimist, I see.
ReplyDeleteABC's half hours are really wonky.
ReplyDeleteyeha! lol
ReplyDeleteSimilar ratings for TVD as last week.Mostly would adjust up 1/10th.
ReplyDeleteI never understood this spring? can you explain me?
ReplyDeleteReign was even beaten by JtV. Ouch!
ReplyDeleteDidn't MOMS adjust down 3 tenths last week when it was one market?
ReplyDeleteWhats gonna happen later :/
lol at Scandal dropping in its half hour.
ReplyDeleteStill doesn't mean anything. Reign is the CBS show with the most episodes banked, while The 100 is the low man on the WB totem pole. Right now, Reign will be renewed before The 100.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course you had to come and attack Scandal's numbers.
ReplyDeleteTVD and reign will be adjusted. I believe.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a US viewer,so i am not very clear about this thing. All i know is TV viewership drops severely during march-may.It may drop to 0.4 this year for TVD,i'm fearing.
ReplyDeleteHow so?
ReplyDeleteOuch indeed!
ReplyDeleteBy that, I meant ineven.
ReplyDeleteTVD most likely will.
ReplyDeletewouldn't it make sense for NBC to repeat The Blacklist eps on Thursdays instead of new comedies?
ReplyDeleteReign goes up against a female viewer monster in Scandal. What exactly is Jane the Virgin's competition? Oldster DWTS? Genre procedural Sleepy Hollow? Family show The Voice? Also, it's quite tacky to celebrate a show beating another show, even if it's one data point out of a 30+ week season.
ReplyDeleteits still above a 3.0
ReplyDeleteExactly
ReplyDeleteDon't see it dropping that much.
ReplyDeleteAs everyone said the super bowl lead in would likely go to SHIELD.
ReplyDeleteIt's ABC's only male skewing show and it's a Marvel show. No doubt Disney would give the lead in to SHIELD even though other shows on the network might be more deserving.
You came to this site too to sprout your nonsense!!Wow!
ReplyDeletenot reign? :(
ReplyDeleteI like that option but extending The Biggest Loser would also be great.
ReplyDeleterob, isn't it time to drop this?
ReplyDeleteThat's true.
ReplyDeleteWhat do u think TVD season low this year would be?
ReplyDeleteFan excuse bingo.
ReplyDeleteCBS won last Saturday.
ReplyDeleteI know Elementary helps CBS earn a lot, but doesn't CBS fear to lose its audience on 10pm???? HTGAWM (I like it A LOT) will have a great fan base because of CBS airing that show which's losing its viewers week after week, next year the timeslot will be less competitive for CBS bec everyone is gonna watch ABC.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm a confused. Bones had the same half hours last week and a 1.3. Why did it go down?
ReplyDeleteThe Voice is extremely female skewing and as highly rated as Scandal
ReplyDeleteMonday at 9 is a much more tougher time period than Thursday at 9 lol.
ReplyDeleteIndeed. I find it hard to believe that there's still a way to negatively spin Scandal's numbers.
ReplyDeleteTVD and The Originals tied; have they ever tied before?
ReplyDeleteHTGAWM is eating Elementary alive!Damn!
ReplyDeleteAs has been said every serialized show has been a failure. And CBS's most serialized new show Stalker is their worst performer.
ReplyDeleteMost networks have found more long term success with procedurals anyway. Only ABC bucks the trend but it's because they have primarily female viewers.
TVD will get adjusted up,it almost always does.
ReplyDeleteJtV has more competition tan Reign, lol
ReplyDeleteDont worry, I will be over at tvbythenumbers too.
ReplyDeleteIn you,we trust!
ReplyDeleteActually there isn't, even saying it dropped in its half hour is just stating that it does what most shows does
ReplyDelete0.6, maybe.
ReplyDeleteTVBTN is the place to laugh at the comments, so see you there!
ReplyDeleteSCANDAL might beat The Voice for #1 reality/scripted show of the week
ReplyDeleteTotally agree on this.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention that it usually has a weaker lead in
ReplyDeleteIt was up against Grey's last season. Which one is more female driven? Soapy Grey's or Soapy Scandal?
ReplyDeleteAn optimist!
ReplyDeleteBut The Voice is #3.
