Ratings Breakdown:
Lifted by the triple crossover between “Chicago Fire,” “Law & Order: SVU” and “Chicago PD,” NBC topped this second Wednesday in November, besting No. 2 CBS by 24 percent in the household overnights. In the competitive No. 3 spot was ABC.
A one-hour Wednesday 8-9 p.m. edition of NBC’s “The Voice” won the 8 p.m. hour with a 7.2 rating/12 share, which was 29 percent above the always consistent “Survivor” on CBS (#2: 5.6/ 9). Compared to the week-ago overnights for regularly scheduled “The Mysteries of Laura” (5.3/ 8), “The Voice” held a 36 percent advantage. And its lead in the key demos will be much greater.
Airing out of “The Voice,” aforementioned “Law & Order: SVU” rose to a dominant 6.7/10 in the 9 p.m. hour, which was its best performance in the metered markets since Nov. 30, 2011 (7.5/13). And it led into a series-high 6.4/11 (#1) for “Chicago PD” at 10 p.m. Needless to say, you can expect more crossovers between the three NBC dramas in the future.
On CBS, aforementioned “Survivor” scored a minor one-tenth of a rating point (or two percent) boost from the 5.5/ 9 one week earlier (which translated into a healthy 9.31 million viewers and a 2.3 rating/7 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data). And it led into a consistent 6.4/10 in the overnights for veteran “Criminal Minds” at 9 p.m., followed by “Stalker” at a distant second-place 4.5/ 8 at 10 p.m., which slipped by 32 percent from year-ago occupant “CSI” (6.6/12 on 11/13/13).
Over at ABC, 8-10 p.m. sitcoms “The Middle” (#2t, 5.6/ 9), “The Goldbergs” (#3: 5.0/ 8), “Modern Family” (#1: 7.0/11) and “Black-ish” (#3: 5.7/ 9) were, on average, six percent above their most recent overnights (on Oct. 29), which remains a healthy rotation for ABC. And it led into a typical 3.9/ 7 for three year-old “Nashville” at 10 p.m., which was on par with the modest year-ago evening. Particularly positive for ABC was growth for “Black-ish” over failed year-ago occupant “Super Fun Night” (3.9/ 6 on 11/13/13) of a hefty 46 percent.
Elsewhere, Fox’s “Red Band Society” continues to hinge on the verge of cancellation with a 1.9/ 3 at 9 p.m., which was a series low. And it led out of a 2.8/ 4 (#4) for “Hell’s Kitchen,” which still has a respectable following in the key young adult demographics. The CW’s combination of “Arrow” (#5: 2.0/ 3) and “The 100” (#5: 1.2/ 2), meanwhile, were equal to one week earlier, which is not a positive for “the 100.”
