Ratings Breakdown:
Results on this second Monday in November are what you could now call typical, with ABC tops in the household overnights and NBC the network to beat in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demos). In fall season-finale results, NBC’s “The Blacklist” exited for its three-month hiatus with a 6.3 rating/10 share at 10 p.m., which tied ABC’s “Castle” for first in the hour and will clearly win the demo battle. While retention for “The Blacklist” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “The Voice” was solid at 89 percent, buzz at the proverbial water-cooler seems to have softened this season (a victim, perhaps, of the “sophomore slump”).
“The Blacklist” returns for the second half of its current season on a new night and time, Thursday from 9-10 p.m. ET, effective in February 2015. New Katherine Heigl drama “State of Affairs” steps into the Monday 10 p.m. hour next week.
“The Voice,” meanwhile, remained solid at a 7.5/11 from 8-10 p.m., which trailed competing “Dancing with the Stars” on ABC (9.1/14) by 18 percent in the overnights but is a lock for another young adult demographic victory. Compared to the year-ago evening, “Dancing With the Stars” increased by three percent in the overnights.
Over at CBS, the immediate positive news remains new drama “Scorpion,” which scored a consistent 6.6/10 in the overnights from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that was 57 percent above modest sophomore lead-in “The Millers” (#4: 4.2/ 6 at 8:30 p.m.), which has not benefited by the unnecessary arrival of Sean Hayes, and it outdelivered year-ago occupants “Mike & Molly” (5.7/ 9 on 11/11/13) and “Mom” (4.6/ 7) by an average of 28 percent. “The Millers,” meanwhile, trailed year-ago occupant “2 Broke Girls” (5.4/ 8 on 11/11/13) by 22 percent.
Earlier in the evening on the Eye net was “2 Broke Girls” at an acceptable 5.3/ 8 (#3) in the 8 p.m. half-hour, which was on par from year-ago occupant “How I Met Your Mother.” But “HIMYM” was a stronger entry in the young adult demos. Related “NCIS: Los Angeles,” meanwhile, dropped by 16 percent week-to-week, with a third-place 5.4/ 9 at 10 p.m. But that 5.4 was still 64 percent above failed year-ago occupant “Hostages” (3.3/ 6 on 11/11/13).
Elsewhere, Fox was consistent with its pairing of dramas “Gotham” (#4: 4.6/ 7), which is solid in the key demos, and “Sleepy Hollow” (#4: 3.1/ 5), which dropped by 30 percent from the 4.4/ 7 in the overnights on the year-ago evening. In search of an audience on Monday remains The CW, which was equal to one week earlier as a result of relocated “The Originals” (#5: 1.2/ 2) and recent entry “Jane the Virgin” (#5: 0.9/ 1), which is still a stronger option than year-ago occupant “Beauty and the Beast” despite the ongoing modest overnight results. Since The CW does recognize the potential value of “Jane the Virgin,” it immediately ordered a full (22-episode) first season.

You need to change out Big Bang with 2 Broke Girls.
ReplyDeleteSeems like The Voice dropped. Not a good sign for State of Affairs next week airing with a weaker Voice lead-in.
ReplyDelete2 Broke Girls seems to be steady (5.2 last week)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Castle and TBL affected each other since they both had hype episode
ReplyDeleteAnyone know who aired football in Philadelphia? ABC didn't. I know ABC aired the game in Charlotte.
ReplyDeleteTrust Marc to sell JtV's failure the other way!LOL!
ReplyDeleteAt least it Has a voice lead in and since NBC is having a terrible year state of affairs should be renewed if it premieres 2.2+
ReplyDeletethe voice did low 3s not a great sign for SOA next week
ReplyDeleteplus NBC is over killing the voice this week
I hope The Originals rates higher than 0.5 this week.
ReplyDeletepretty sure 0.6 will be their number through the fall
ReplyDeleteOpps, thanks. Fixed.
ReplyDeleteGotham being stable is good news for FOX. If Masterchef Jr holds up tonight, they will be in a little better shape at least for now.
ReplyDeleteWas Castle the big wedding episode that I saw promos for? If so, that may be a bit disappointing. I'm sure LA/Castle will go up again SOA v TBL
ReplyDeleteI have nothing against Jane but Marc's bias with certian shows is hilarious. Also with Jane probably getting canceled and HoD ending we can expect another cheap dramedy next season.
ReplyDeleteExactly my point.I enjoy watching JtV but his bias is so evident & the funny thing is he doesn't even acknowledge some show's success on the other hand,as for example-SPN!
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised the Blacklist got a 2.6 (give or take). That's about what I was expecting. The episode was really good and it closed up all of the running storylines in time for the series to relaunch at the Super Bowl. I think the first Thursday episode will get a 2.7 and then the series will settle in the 2.0-2.5 range.
ReplyDeleteVery unlikely. There were no connections between their ups and downs before, none of them could profit from the weaknesses of the others
ReplyDeleteJust rise Sleepy Hollow! I can't take another series low again. :(
ReplyDeleteIt probably got a 2.4 even with last week
ReplyDeleteHow good it does in its premiere won't matter if the shows ratings tank during the year
ReplyDeleteisn't that just the top 25? does it normally maintain that rating after everywhere else is accounted for?
ReplyDeleteHe has some weird beef with that show. XD.
ReplyDeleteI think SOA will debut well, and it's likely to pull some of Castle's female demo. I think LA will gain the most from TBL moving and SOA taking its place.
ReplyDeleteI love Cw series and I'm specially rooting for Jane The Virgin, but I find him annoying.
ReplyDeleteThe way he treats Cw's series he doesn't like: Supernatural and The 100... Is he really a journalist? shouldn't journalists be objective and impartial?
Mom isn't doing great as lead-out of Big Bang Theory, but since he loves that sitcom so much, he finds a way to make it look good.
I think it would still need to be hitting around a 1.8 weekly to warrant a renewal. That would be decent for NMBC and for 10pm.
ReplyDeletethe problem is once it moves from that post voice slot it will likely crash
ReplyDeleteThis is too funny.
ReplyDeleteHe likes the show, he never fails to 'big up' the shows he actually likes.
ReplyDeleteConsidering the hype,i expected Castle to get a little more higher ratings! TO and JtV will most probably score 0.6 & 0.4 respectively.
ReplyDeletesometimes i think #cancellationbear is the more accurate one. no BS with that dude.
ReplyDeleteseems ike waste every year trying out these types of shows which always bomb vitually right out the gate, I know they probably dont want to over saturate with sci-fi/fantasy but isnt it more important to have better ratings than worry about trying to attract an audience that seems like it doesnt exsist?
ReplyDeletefans of the show more likely and not the show itself
ReplyDeleteThe Blacklisr is low for its midseason finale. I expected more
ReplyDeleteSomeone told me it's partly because sci-fi/fantasy shows are more expensive so they like to have a few cheaper shows mixed in?
ReplyDeleteMark is a retentionista and he also doesnt look at young demo numbers but HH ratings which is why he would label shows like SPN and T100 as losers as they both have poor HH retention out of thier lead ins. The same applied when SPN aired behind Arrow too.
ReplyDelete"The Millers" is dead syndication or not.
ReplyDeleteIf it ever moves (from Mondays or Tuesdays).
ReplyDeleteway off syndication anyway so that arguement doesnt really hold any sway, if its ratings were like this at the end of season 3 I would say the show was likely to e renewed for syndication but 3 weeks into season 2? This show is dead and will be yanked from the schedule soon.
ReplyDeleteI think it its perform in the 1s it will
ReplyDeleteNah CBS will just put it back after TBBT.
ReplyDeleteI hope CBS will change their mind on putting the Millers back after TBBT in January and let Mom grow there
ReplyDeleteThe Originals is going to need help if that want to get it to 4 seasons and syndication without having to claw its way over the line cancellation bear on its tale the whole way.
ReplyDeletebut MoM hasn't been really growing there- I think they might want to put the odd couple there
ReplyDeletemaybe though that seems desperate and pathetic, I guess they dont have a choice though do they?
ReplyDeleteIt's been growing in viewers and I think with time, it should grow in the demo.
ReplyDeleteThere was a report last year about MoonVes wanting to get in house sitcoms to syndication. The best bet would be the Millers. Since McCarthys is a dud also. Odd Couple will premiere in 2015. So i guess the Millers best option so far for syndication.
ReplyDeleteOh Idk, he does seem to have this weird grudge against the show, he used to be nastier about it though, it's the tone and attitude whenever he talks about the shows he dislikes.
ReplyDeleteIt might have to, it's clearly not as strong as TVD and CW overestimated its staying power by moving it to Mondays.
ReplyDeletewhy are everybody throwing syndications around when talking about the cw shows? Its not a forgone conclusion that anybody will be interested in buying the rights
ReplyDeleteexaqctly, heavily serialized shows like Originals, Reign and TVD have a harder time to find syndication partners.
ReplyDeleteTO = 0.7 JTV = 0.5
ReplyDeleteFull tables now posted
ReplyDeletea little something called money
ReplyDeleteABC ratings are inflated somewhat by a pre-emption in Charlotte for Monday Night Football. The game was also carried locally on broadcast TV in Philadelphia, but it was on an independent station
ReplyDeleteWhoa. Gotham back to a 2.2. Not good.
ReplyDeleteOriginals half hours: 0.8/0.7
ReplyDeleteJTV: 0.5/0.5
CW was not pre-empted?
ReplyDeleteonly ABC was mentioned so far for preemptions in Charlotte.
ReplyDeleteOnly a 1.7 for Castle? Yikes.
ReplyDeleteThat's good for JTV then :)
ReplyDeleteI could be considered a retentionista too, but about the official ratings, not the HH ratings. Anyway, we can see he finds a way to spin the results of the shows he loves.
ReplyDeleteJane The Virgin fans could say that, unfortunately, the lead-in isn't compatible and isn't a strong lead-in like Arrow or The Vampire Diaries used to be (during fall-winter of the 2013/2014 television season), but these 0.4-0.5s ratings can't be good or good enough for a Cw series on its first season. Like I said, I'm specially rooting for Jane The Virgin, but I have to be objective.
The Voice is above a 3? How can people still be fixated on these singing completion shows?
ReplyDeleteYeah, what was the last CW sci-fi show that did well without pre-existing brand awareness? Because I don't know if they've ever had a success without some kind of built-in audience.
ReplyDeleteIt's slowly losing steam...
ReplyDeleteMarc does this big analysis for the HH. He might change who to put in the loser, winner category. But the analysis is based on the HH numbers.
ReplyDeleteThank God.
ReplyDeleteDayum originals please don't be preempted
ReplyDeleteThe Millers is such a disgrace for CBS. If it was a show for any other production company, if would have been pulled a long time ago.
ReplyDeletethat little something called money will only be thrown at shows that are fit for syndication. Such dramas you can air saturday mornings as filler material.
ReplyDeleteSyndicated shows are nothing more than filler airtime for various other stations and since no one will NOT want the largest ammount of people watch their material they'll rather put in issue of the week episodes wich are easy to get into than serialized on-going storyines
Yeah, it's slipped as of late. It'll be renewed though
ReplyDeleteScorpion hits a low. Still doing better than anyone expected, tho.
ReplyDeletewooot?
ReplyDeletecan't imagine Originals rising to a 0.7. Probably adjusted down later
Yay for The Originals!
ReplyDeleteseriously sooooo boring
ReplyDeleteAny show deserves better than a millers leadin. So it's really holding its own. And NCIS:LA slipping a whole ratings point from last year...
ReplyDeletei dont know thats what the ratings say so far.
ReplyDeletemight not
ReplyDeleteI really don't understand why TO is considered as loser.
ReplyDeleteThere really is no excuse for NCIS:LA doing that badly. After 5 years of getting the highest rated CBS show as a lead-in, it really should have built it's own audience.
ReplyDeleteEven if it is syndicated, who would watch? People and networks can find better. Watched a couple clips on Hulu. Absolutely unfunny. But the laugh track seemed to enjoy it, as with all CBS shows

This used to be the CW's target demo during Dawn Ostroff's days, not anymore..
ReplyDeleteI thought the CW was inflated but I guess not. Thats some jump for The Originals.
ReplyDeletewhats the point is producing a show that runs at a loss and has not potenital to make money through syndication?
ReplyDeleteActually that's not true at all.
ReplyDeleteBuilding physical material is expensive, casting actors is expensive, on-location shots are expensive.
CGI is a minor investement compared to that, average CGI (as used on Tomorrow People last season) is far from pricey. (Flash however surely has some heavy CG budget though)
Sure, Hart of Dixie is produced for a dime due to the small cast and left over props. But the other CW shows should pretty much all be on-par regarding their expenses (again minus The Flash). TVD/TO probably has a shared crew and comes cheaper together but the rest should be pretty much on par
well most of their show are still more female skewing then not.
ReplyDeleteTBL will likely be doing 2.3s on Thursday which is still great for NBC
ReplyDeleteNoooooooooooooooooo Gotham!!!!CW was preempted somewhere???? I hope not!!!
ReplyDeleteMy god that drop for castle in the half hour quite shocking for the wedding episode.
ReplyDeleteAre Gotham's numbers really that bad?
ReplyDeleteIt seems as Castle is losing steam, as it use to build on DWTS lead-in
ReplyDeleteI know, they moved it for a reason but apparently it can't hold it's own. I could see it rising when the Blacklist leaves, maybe
ReplyDeleteI think SofA is gonna get high 1s to low 2s at best next week.
ReplyDeleteHow did Gotham get a 2.1 with those half hour?
ReplyDeleteyeah, still because of the left-over image Ostroff left behind (she sure left her stamp branded onto the networks chest).
ReplyDeleteBecause these days most CW shows are actually bi-targeted equally at a male and female audience.
Flash/Arrow/Supernatural and in some way also Originals
Hopefully it adjusts up.
ReplyDeleteyup and than it will sink based on some of the early review
ReplyDelete"Mom isn't doing great as lead-out of Big Bang Theory, but since he loves
ReplyDeletethat sitcom so much, he finds a way to make it look good. "
He shouldn't even need a way to make Mom look good because Mom is actually very good. I am a long time TBBT viewer but I have to say that the way in which Mom is handling its story lines about addiction, homelessness, being poor etc is very good. Ratings wise it may be dwarfed by TBBT, but story wise Mom is ahead of TBBT at this point of time. Just my two cents. :)
Agree with you about his other biases though. :)
Someone on another site said ABC needed to find a new "Castle" type show. A solid, consistent utility player.
ReplyDeleteIf only Forever's ratings weren't so low....
It didn't . It was a typo in our table which has since been fixed :)
ReplyDeleteHope so. Really enjoying S2 of Mom and I liked S1 too.
ReplyDeleteLast week was better. The numbers are great for the show and FOX but it dropped a lot from last episode.
ReplyDeleteMe too
ReplyDeleteYes. Apparently the 2.1 was a type and the show actually got a 2.2. Let's see if it adjusts up. I thought last week's terrific episode would keep people tuned in.
ReplyDeleteYep, I think ABC had hoped Forever would be that show. It has very similar elements.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's a shame it's ratings are not doing better.
18-34 demos per showbuzzdaily:
ReplyDeleteFOX:
Gotham: 1.9
Sleepy Hollow: 1.0
CW:
Originals: 0.6
JTV: 0.4
CBS:
2BG: 1.0
The Miller: 0.7
Scorpion: 1.0
NCIS LA: 0.7
ABC:
DWTS: 1.3
Castle: 1.2
NBC:
The Voice: 2.2
The Blacklist: 1.5
I do think Castle will conclude next season
ReplyDeleteAgree...
ReplyDeleteYes, that's what I thought too. I hope it adjusts up in the end.
ReplyDeletehave great chances of The originals fit down. Do not sing victory :)
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure :)
ReplyDeleteSeems a lot of the Castle fandom didn't care for the show or the promotion being thrown to and they resented it.
ReplyDeleteIt got a 2.2, not that far off
ReplyDeleteSomeone has the 1/2 hours?
ReplyDeleteI think NCIS LA is the reason why castle gave in a little bit but im not worried for cancellation tho i think both shows will go up from next week when the blacklist goes on hiatus and moves to a other night.
ReplyDeleteDarkUFO posted them already
ReplyDeleteI was talking about the ratings it got, so far, as lead-out of Big Bang Theory, not about the quality of the sitcom. I love Anna Faris :) I'm a big fan.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your thought. :)
Yep think so too at the start of the reason i thought this would be the last but after a few interviews from Andrew, Amann and even Stana and Nathan i think S8 will be no problem they dont seem to be done yet.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteHeHe. Went off on a tangent there, didn't I?
ReplyDeleteI blame Marc. ;) :)
I think Flash/Arrow seem to be most male skewing SPN/Supernatural have almost equal male/female demo. Also the 100 can be counted to that group. VD is very female skewing. Has like 1.2 w18-34 demo, 0.4-0.5 male demo.
ReplyDeleteSeriously Scorpion stop going down, what the hell.
ReplyDeleteVersus last year
ReplyDeleteThe Voice- 3.8 ( a drop of 8 tenths)
SH- 2.6 (a drop 1.1)
The Blacklist- 3.0 ( a drop of 5 tenths)
Castle- 2.0 ( a drop of 3 tenths)
DWTS- 1.7 ( a gain of 4 tenths)
Bones-2.0 (Gotham improved by 2 tenths)
Hostages 1,1 (NCIS LA improved by 4 tenths)
HIMYM 3.1 (TBG down by 1.1)
TBG @8:30- 2.7 ( The Millers down by 1.2) (TBG down by 8 tenths)
Mike and Molly - 2.3 and Moms- 1.9- (Scorpion is down versus the two combined)
Nope. Millers is CBS owned and so CBS will get it to syndication if it's crawling on its hands and knees begging to be shot in the head.
ReplyDeleteDid i just read this right? is TBL going on hiatus for 3 months? why lol isnt ep07 kinda early for a fall finale?
ReplyDelete"Since The CW does recognize the potential value of “Jane the Virgin,” it immediately ordered a full (22-episode) first season."
ReplyDeleteThough once again Berman has decided to praise JtV where he would criticise other shows, at least he didn't use the term "full season renewed" again. He's improving, albeit very slightly.
Ouch for NCIS LA. Hope it rises up don't want it to be thrown out to Fridays
ReplyDelete2.08 ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd yep. They're inserting State of Affairs into Blacklist's timeslot starting next Monday, then airing 2.09 after the Superbowl and then moving to Thursdays.
They announced that ages ago, surprised this is news to you. Episode 8 actually. And TGIT is also taking midseason hiatus after 8/9 episodes.
ReplyDeleteThat awful lead-in isn't helping. At least it didn't crash as almost everyone predicted.
ReplyDeleteYeah I hope so too. Definitely has one more seasons in it if the leads want to. I just hope they are able to work out the negotiations and announce the final season early to give it a proper send off like it deserves.
ReplyDeleteAnd to think this show kept us deprived of Margo Martindale on The Americans. It's a travesty and a tragedy.
ReplyDeleteMight be higher in premiere but its no Blacklist so I don't expect it to hold well.
ReplyDeleteShould say "CW jumped the gun and order a full season for Jane the Virgin way to early."
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be interesting how the 10 PM slot will fare in the future with The Blacklist moving. Castle's and NCIS: LA's demos might go up if State of Affairs becomes a flop. State of Affairs will probably win the slot for a few weeks but Castle and NCIS: LA will be on their tails. It won't surprise me to see Castle or NCIS: LA win their time slots at the start of next year.
ReplyDeleteJane the Virgin deserves the praise, although I see your point.
ReplyDeleteOr batb. Yes the Show has bad ratings but he really just hate it.
ReplyDeleteIts a suprise to me because i dont keep up with TBL i watch it after ive watched Castle and some shows from sunday its that im reading the household post otherwise i still wouldnt have known.
ReplyDeleteThe season finale got a 2.6, down from a 2.7 the week before.
ReplyDeleteIt's doing well.
I don't blame viewers for leaving The Voice, it was a boring night.
ReplyDeleteI think it's more like a lot of the Castle fandom resents the show and all of the promotion it got on all of the official Castle social media sites when Castle not only got shoved back a week to show two episodes of Forever but it got less than zero publicity this season. And it's still not getting much in the way promos. Yes, Stana was on GMA and The View yesterday but she was on both shows for a total of less than 3 minutes! Her intro on The View took longer than her actual appearance!
ReplyDeleteWhy are you bringing up the results of a year-ago?
ReplyDeleteHope they aren't blaming ABC for how The View or GMA interviews people. Unless you're some important person, these interviews tend to be short.
ReplyDeleteNo mediocre rating shows got promotions in their 7th season. And before fandom blows up and start throwing stones: 1.5-1.7 is mediocre. Castle is pretty reliable, better than a lot of ABC shows, but no promotion could catapult it to the Scandal or How to... level. Each and every channel promotes their new shows heavily because no show lives forever and they need new successes to replace the run-out ones.
ReplyDeleteIt's not from a year ago, it's the last result from the first season.
ReplyDeleteIf the show ended the season with a 2.6 and eight episodes later is at 2.5 I would say it's doing great.
It didn't premiere to a 2.6. It premiered at a 3.5. It then went down to a 2.6 and then it went a 2.8. It was only after the third episode that dropped to the season low (or hovering it).
ReplyDeleteI don't get your point and your numbers are wrong.
ReplyDeleteMy numbers aren't wrong, they're just in an inverted order.
ReplyDeleteEpisode 1: 3.5
Episode 2: 2.8
Episode 3: 2.6
Episode 4: 2.8
So, it was only after the fifth episode that it dropped to around it's series low.
I still don't get your point. And, by the order you named them, your numbers were wrong.
ReplyDeleteThen using that logic, why does Grey's get promos? Just because they're on TGIT? Not buying it.
ReplyDeleteThat's actually the first time I've actually ever even watched a second of that show so apparently my expectations were completely unrealistic...and actually that was the only segment I watched, I ff'd until I got to her segment and then promptly deleted it. What a waste!
ReplyDeleteNeither of you are wrong in the numbers. You are just using different numbers to compare The Blacklist's 2.5 this week. Eduardo you are using the season 1 season finale's 2.6, while Andrew43 is using either the 3.5 it got for the second season premiere, or the mid-season finale one year ago (3.0). From what I see, The Blacklist is pretty much in the same shape as most shows. Stronger in the fall, weaker in the spring, comes back stronger than the spring (for the premiere), but quickly drop back down to last spring's levels.
ReplyDeleteHe said The Blacklist got 3.5 and then fell to 2.6, which is plain wrong. That's why I said it.
ReplyDeleteFor a show to end a season with 2.6 and be at a 2.5 eight episodes later is quite good, whatever the ratings were for the first fall run.
Why GA?
ReplyDeleteNo1: It's in its 11th season, one of the oldest show on networks and yet successful, which has a PR value in itself.
No2: It starts the Thursday program so its numbers can highly affect the following shows and Thursday is traditionally the most important day for the advertisers because of the weekend sales and movie premieres
No3: Because after eleven years it has an almost one full rating point higher demo than Castle has - it's a top performer even with its now weaker numbers. And has always been, even when Castle was in it's top form.
Castle's milestone episodes (like this one, or ITBoTB or Veritas in last year) got a lot of special promotion: articles, talk show interviews, etc. Yet they didn't profit anything from them. The TBoTB hit a season's low, Veritas too, and this Monday was equal with the previous one, 1.6 again. Promotion is an investment, nobody promotes something which is neither a market leader nor can return the invested money.
Like most of all network shows..
