OMG! :O The final scene!! CHUUUUUCKKK! :D This is AMAZING! :D ♥ But the subtext Destiel did not like me much... Sam singing about Dean... :´) Their faces... Jensen & Jared PERFECT! :)
OMG! Wtf did i just watch???? Hahahahahahaha Some of it was cheesy. But a lot of it was awesome. I cracked up! "Why are they standing so close?" "Sub text! And you don't spell subtext without sex." Hahahahahahaha I'm mad Castiel got his own solo. Hahaha i was like, what is this song? LOL. Some of the lyrics were really funny though. And the group cheer..."Ghostfacerrrrsssss" I facepalmed so hard. nooooo. hahahaha. Chuck!!! That was great. I was a little sad they couldn't tell that was Adam. I took that as a forshadow. Maybe they'll revisit it. Get him the hell outta there.
"Oh Dean. You never should've thrown this away." "Didn't work for me. I don't need an amulet to tell me how how i feel about my brother." "Just take it..Jerk." "Bitch."
Kudos. Kudos. I love it when the writers make fun of us. Congrats again to reaching 200.
There were parts where I cringed and said out loud, "This is bad". There were parts were I laughed out loud like the "BM" scenes. There were parts that make me stop and think like when Sam asked who one of the characters was only to find out it was Adam. There were scenes that were kind of touching like when the cast sang "Carry On Wayward Son" and when Dean hung the "Samulet" on the Impala's rear view mirror.
All in all I would rate this episode as wierd. Some like wierd ... and some do not. I'm with Sam and Dean though. Can this please be the last meta episode of Supernatural. It's nice to give comedic touches to the show, but not to write an entire episode that's so heavy with comedy.
An episode dedicated to the reasons I don't spend time on Twitter or Tumblr. Parts were funny, but all things considered, I would have rather have had a plot. The Chuck appearance was cool though, and the best part.
I loved it! The girls singing Carry On My Wayward Son had me in tears. I loved seeing Chuck again. Have to say it again I loved it and have no complaints about it at all. It was exactly what I hoped to see for the 200th show. Congrats to all of them.
I liked it way better than ghostfacers. However some was very chessy and the casting was crap. I honestly hadnt watch supernatural since episode 2 of s10 because this season has no story arc...But this has me raising some questions like with chuck being back and they bring up lucifer and adam?..will they try and free him and maby free Lucifer by doing so..This story HAS TO BE GOING SOMEWEHRE RIGHT?...*slaps face* another filler next week zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
This episode i would skip , never watch again...Though it was ok...i want STORY
I still need time to process. There were parts I didn't like and a lot I loved. I wonder if Dabb and Loflin get hate mail over the Samulet? This is a celebratory episode so I'm not going to harp on the negative. I'm going to keep the warm and fuzzies over the positive. -I absolutely despise Wincest/Destiel, so references to any of that got an eye roll from me. -I loved that they used Gordon Lightfoot in the beginning and I honestly teared up at Carry on My Wayward Son. Their faces just touched me. -Dean hanging the replacement Samulet on the rear view mirror was perfect closure. I can let it go now. -The young girl playing Sam was really sweet and I loved all scenes she shared with Jensen. -Once again, Jensen's expressive acting saved a lot of moments for me. -Sam's smile in this episode could light a room. That was great to see. I have more. I just can't think right now.
This was a love letter to the fans and it was perfect. I loved this freaking episode and I'm not big on the Meta episodes. To this day I won't watch The French Connection.
I loved this episodes, I cried a little at "Carry On Wayward Son" and freaking screamed when I figured out the publisher was Chuck! Even before we saw him, I knew it was Chuck.
Someone on Twitter said there was a Kim Manners reference but I missed it. Can someone fill me in? Thanks!
WOW just WOW! love Chuck it was great seeing him but its just hard too get over the fact that season 9 was heartbreaking too me and the 3 Eps of this season really pissed me off but it was great that there trying too win back some of the fans who hated season 9 with the new brotherly love stuff and seeing the Samulet did make me tear up a little and seeing Chuck made me Cry. I am slowly getting back too liking the show after going too the ChiCon 4 weeks ago and this Ep made me happy.
Oh my goodness! So much better than I thought it would be. The Samulet, Adam, CHUCK, wow!!! Great episode!!! Way to go SPN Family!!! 200 episodes and counting!!!!
It was an okay episode, and it did remind me a lot of why I fell in love with it ten years ago. I think it was a nice goodbye to the original concept of the show. I didn't hate it like I do a Charlie episode, so that's a big plus. I guess the brothers are heroes again, back together, working cases, all loving feelings for each other. I am kind of sad that when Dean was demon cured, he was also hunter cured. I'm not happy with him only being a jokester in the show these days, and I am not happy about another comedy next week.
That's the rational way of looking at things, but as we've or at least I've seen, Destiel shippers are fairly irrational, and willfully ignorant to anything that would entertain the idea that their ship will not be canon.
Like the line I quoted, "I have my version, you have yours." You would think that would be the line in the sand saying, that the writers have their own version of the story, but the fans are free to interpret things how they want.
The delusions go deep, I'm already seeing that since Dean didn't puke at the sight of the two lesbians dressed as Dean and Cas, Destiel will still happen.
Simply fabulous. What a way to celebrate 200 episodes! It truly was a "love letter" to the fans, and this show's ability to poke fun at itself is unparalleled. I enjoyed every moment.
I really loved this episode. It was totally dedicated to the fans and it makes me feel so warm inside. Seriously! it was so special to me, it makes me remember why I love the show. Supernatural will always have a special place in my heart :D
Chuck appearing in the end was perfect for this episode to the point where he doesn't need to appear in some major story arc or what have you. This was a perfect episode to give some closure to Chuck himself.
The Adam reference was so on point, especially with Sam having no idea who the character was, lol. Adam was always a plot device from his introduction episode aptly titled "Jump the Shark" to him literally acting as a way to defeat Michael without Dean being his vessel and that little nod was, I felt, something just for the fans to get a good laugh at.
And now…the samulet…just a great idea with Dean keeping the replica as a way of telling a certain fanbase that they can let go of that plot thread.
For a special event for a 200th episode, "Fan Fiction" was magnificent and totally what I wanted in SNP's own little quirky way and this is exactly why I love Supernatural so much.
well why build up demon dean just to have him cured ?.. Also they could do the personal jounery with a big bad they did it in s1 and s2 and s3 and s4 etc...
Dean still has the MoC and it's going to create problems in future episodes. Dean's very restless and looking for cases on little basis, sort of like Soulless Sam was always looking for Hunts.
what can i say? this episode was awesome. it really shows that they worked hard saying thank you to the fans. it got me right in the feels. im proud to be a supernatural fan. will continue to watch to the end.
THIS EPISODE WAS SO FREAKING AWESOME!!! i loved all the callbacks to the beginning and MY GOD!!! every single title card they've had over the past 10 years did not expect that that was so awesome and the end with God aka Chuck showing up was amazing this was without a doubt a true love letter to the fans this is truly amazing show and i hope we see more years of it
But he didn't show any effects of the mark in this episode , also he is not like souless sam cause he wouldn't have took the neckless and show emotion?
I love how Supernatural can make these meta-episodes work. I've always really liked how Supernatural is able to make fun of itself and be so great to the fans of the show.
I really hope we see Chuck again this season. I also liked the mention of Adam. Although it would be great if Sam & Dean now remembered him and wanted to rescue him.
I meant the same restless energy that SS felt ... the need to be working 24/7. It likely helps keeps the MoC symptoms at bay - even Sam remarked near the end of the episode that them avoiding the world wasn't a good coping mechanism for either one of them. The MoC will be showing it's effects soon.
I really liked it. There was some cheesy moments but overall- great, so much better then I expected. This episode was full of love, hart and reminded me why I love this show for so long and why I am willing to forgive them some very weak eps and even seasons. Becouse there is nothing like SPN on TV now. Loved boys moments, songs weren't bad, and the way they shot down all ships was clever and hilarious. We have our version but they have theirs. Fair enoeght. Congrats with reaching such a milestone!
After alternately facepalming and spewing my drink during the hour, I found myself singing along to Carry On Wayward Son and feeling waaaay too sentimental for my liking. The ep was weird, funny, self-deprecatory, cringeworthy in the best way possible, and overall a nice tribute to the fanbase that's kept the show going for 10 years. Was it the best meta episode ever? I don't think so. Could it have been better? Yes, most definitely. But I'm not disappointed.
He was God. If they are giving the fans a nod that's nice but it would be better if Chuck was brought back for the guys to at least learn the truth or have some over arcing reason for his return.
I am picky as freak and I couldn't find a single thing I did not like about this episode. Easily one of my favorite episodes of all time now. Supernatural can still deliver! 10/10 from me!
Happy 200th episode. I have been down with this show since day one. I loved every minute of this episode. I love the way it was a big thank you to the fans and also poked fun at the show too. Like most people i was shocked when Chuck showed up. A+++ work.
Loved it ! Marie: "Okay. Lets do this. I understudy Sam, so ... I used this for my one-woman "Orphan Black" show last year. But it's going to have to work ( puts on wig ) for Sam. Writer. Director. Actor. I'm gonna Barbara Streisand this Bitch."
I did not think I would like this episode. I actually have enjoyed all the meta episodes, some of which are my favorites of the series, but this looked silly and like it would suck as a 200th episode.
As it turns out, I was very pleasantly surprised! Though tgere were some moments I could have done without seeing, overall this episode was awesome It had a lot more heart then I have come to expect from the show now days, and tgat surprised m
All of these were my thoughts exactly except I liked the references to Wincest and Destiel because I despise them as well. I think they referenced it as if to say "knock it off guys it's not going to happen". Especially the way Dean/Jensen turned and looked at the camera after Destiel is mentioned. He looked annoyed as hell. They did kind of overuse it though because it's just one, very expressive, portion of the fans.
Seeing Chuck...I honestly clapped. I loved it so much. What I loved the most, was no supply of guests... But they were instead represented. Wish Ellen Meg and Jo had been represented, but I've only watched once...maybe I missed it. Either way enough were seen.....dear god ADAM! Please ...he has to be rescued... Right??!!
what personal journey's? Dean's is obviously the MOC stuff even if they are really slow getting to it but hey they have a lot of episodes to fill and only one main story arc to fill it with. Sam? Not seeing anything at all.
The way that I viewed it was that Thompson was trying to send the message across that if people want to ship, that's great, but there's a clear difference between what's presented in canon and what's interpreted by others in their own trans-formative works. Basically what I think he was trying to convey is that no one should ever feel ashamed about what they write in their own interpretations of these characters from the source material but also at the same time it shouldn't be taken literally either. Just like the robots and aliens in Marie's version of the story, what comes across as silly and outlandish to some could be appealing to others. I think he managed to get that point across quite nicely without being offensive to the people who do see the appeal in slash shipping. At the very least I think there were some clear lines drawn between what's considered canon and what's considered fanon and if people want to continue to be willfully obtuse about that there's really not much anyone can do about that.
Me too. I'm not even gonna lie, I bawled like a baby when Dean hung it in the rear-view mirror and he and Sam shared that look before driving off. To me that was some major symbolism. Basically it was as if they were saying that even though the brothers have had some bumps in the road along the way and have hurt and disappointed one another in ways that cut right down to the bone, it's the road ahead of them that matters. They can and will get past this, and it was just such a beautiful moment.
I thought they handled it pretty tastefully all things considered. I'm not a shipper myself but I don't have anything personal against people who do, provided that they do it in fandom and don't try and shove it down everyone else's throats. Unfortunately there are some people in this fandom who insist on trying to shove their ship down everyone's throats and want it to become canon so badly that they throw tantrums all over the internet about it and harass the writers and producers relentlessly. Which is why I feel as if they addressed the topic in this episode in the first place. Robbie Thompson seemed to be making a statement that if people want to ship these characters together, that's fine but bear in mind that it has nothing to do with the actual canon of the story. He was saying that they shouldn't be ashamed of being fans of the ship but the show's story is different from their story. It was pretty clear-cut and it really should be the last word anyone should ever have to say on the subject. Now whether or not that message got through to these fans is an entirely different matter.
If there was any episode that showed how little the show thinks of Dean and Dean fans, this was it. The "Love Letter" to the fans was, as usual, to the Sam fans. They got what they wanted, Sam pimping, the return of the slave-collar amulet, Dean useless and apparently, there are no such fans as Dean fans. Greatly disappointed. I gave this episode the benefit of the doubt and watched. What a mistake, and thanks for the slap in the face Thompson. Nice to know that you feel Dean and Dean fans aren't worth the time or effort.
Sam's had 9 years of personal and mythical arc. Dean gets 3 episodes and that's that, back to the navel gazing and watching Sam be the hero. This show's promotion of DemonDean was just a tease, but Carver never meant it to become a serious story for Dean. It will go to Sam, it always does.
Interesting that you feel that way because I saw it as very Dean positive. Dean's still reeling in the aftermath of being a demon and isn't thinking very highly of himself right now. He's embarrassed by his ordeal and is trying to keep himself busy to try and distract himself from these negative thoughts that he has inside himself that have been plaguing him since becoming human again. It was through Marie's performance as Sam during the manly tear song that he saw first-hand not only how his brother views him, but also how fans of the Supernatural books in general view him as well, and that's of a hero. We also got to see Dean step up and rally the girls together to get the show to go on. He was able to step up and be the hero that we all know that he is and to show that confident side of himself again. It was exactly what he needed to boost his confidence about himself and I found it to be very touching.
This is the first time in a while I've been able to say this about supernatural. But that was brilliant. Yes it was cringey it times but I loved every minute of it and laughed the whole way through. The monster was lame but it was not meant to be the focus so I get that they just needed an easy solve. Loved seeing the amulet and the awkward exchange between them when they saw Adam and the carry on wayward son rendition I thought was going to be awful but it was actually quite beautiful. This will be one I rewaatch many times. Well done supernatural on a brilliant 200 episodes. This is why I watch this show. Because they love the fans. "Ghostfacers"
What does Dean need to feel embarrassed about? Being a demon? Something he had no control over? Sam drank blood, killed innocents, and did terrible things while soulless and he's never felt embarrassment, nor was he ever called out on all the crap he did, and he still got to get the kills and play hero. Now Dean can't do anything because he's embarrassed? Is that how the show will explain it besides the lame excuse of the MoC which is there just to make sure that Dean does nothing more than follow Sam's lead and watch Sam get all the action while he navel gazes? So he rallied the girls, yip. As for Marie's performance, that's how the Sam fans think Sam feels, but that's not what I see from the show. It's not what Sam feels, it's the fan fiction stories that have Sam feel that. The show has Sam as pretty self-centered and only thinks of Dean when he needs something from him, or when Dean is firmly under Sam's thumb, which showed that this is where the show is going by bringing back the slave collar named the Samulet.
I think that's what he tried to do to, it's just it apparently didn't work. I've been seeing wanky post after wanky post saying "Destiel is going to be canon." From Dean just looking at the actress that played Cas, to Dean being annoyed. He's annoyed about Wincest = it's never going to happen, he's annoyed by Destiel (even breaking the fourth wall to glare at the viewers) it's obviously going to happen.
So it's going to be another year of Destiel shippers calling people homophobes and queerbaiters, because they can't understand jokes or context, and think everything is subtext and literal. Except when it is plainly said on the show.
Very cute episode :) Loved the adorable Cas girl and the adorable song she sang and the fact that Dean got to hear that song about Sam appreciating him so much. I hope he sees that Sam thinks he is the best brother in the world :) I had so many feelings in this one. And the fact they mentioned Adam haha Also, Chuck in the end; that was awesome.
What I saw was that when Dean was demon cured, he was also cured from being a hunter. He can't fight anymore and he can't kill anymore. It's clear to me that the show heads have made a strategic decision to cater to those fans who were toddlers when the show began. This was no love letter to people who started with the show or the demographic of those who have kept the show on the air through the "iffy" years of cancellation -- the 39 to 42 year olds that, the last I heard was the median age of SPN viewers. I suffered second-hand embarrassment for the role JA had to perform. The dear boy tried very hard and his expressions were priceless, as usual, but the character on-screen was not Dean Winchester. He was the show's jokester.
I take back most of what I said about this episode. I liked it. The girls weren't too annoying, and I almost shed a single man-tear when Chuck appeared. I don't think I'll re-watch, but it was better than I thought it would be.
I tend to agree though I think Seasons 6 and 7 were better than the past three seasons, which seem to be completely aimless. I hated the Leviathans and Dick Roman, but that was an arc. Now, we have nothing.
I guess I have a heart of stone or my intense love for the show is gone b/c I wasn't moved at all by last night's episode. I didn't hate the episode, but I didn't love it either. It was just okay to me. I like Meta episodes, and this one was all right. It wasn't as good, IMO, as TFM or TRG.
I hated the Samulet scene b/c it was fake! I would have been moved if Sam had reproduced the REAL Samulet for Dean to hang on the rearview mirror. That would have moved and touched me, but he didn't. It was a cheap, fake knockoff. I wasn't moved by that. Nor was I moved by Dean's statement about why he threw it away. Dean tossed that amulet b/c it didn't help him find God and b/c he was ticked at Sam. There was no other reason he threw it away. The writers can try to explain it away now, but it is what it is.
And while I liked the rendition of "Carry On My Wayward Son," the scene, itself, didn't move me. Yes, JA and JP had nice looks on their faces but I just didn't feel anything.
I disagree - they were being open to the idea of viewers seeing things that the writers may not have intended, and saying that those interpretations are still legitimate. Recognising that there are multiple readings to your script and that you don't get to control how people watch it, any more than viewers get to control how the show is written, is a very mature and accepting way to acknowledge shipping and fan fiction in general.
I think they just didn't develop them right. The leviathan concept had massive potential but it was all full of telling rather than showing. They went on and on about how hugely terrifying the leviathan were, and then when they showed up it all just became a camp political allegory instead of effective and suspenseful drama. A real shame. Since then we've just had Crowley, who suffers from big time villain decay (and was never all that threatening to begin with) and Megatron, who was, again, a bit campy and pathetic. For all that I'm into portraying villains as fundamentally weak and pitiful, that needs to make them feel more dangerous, not less so. Then there's bit players like Abbadon. Don't get me wrong, she was awesome, but she never had a clear overarching strategy that felt related to the brothers. She just wanted to take over hell. For all that Supernatural used to have comedy episodes, it never used to feel camp. Nowadays it does all the time, even if it still has good moments.
I also really wish they'd dealt with the fact of the brothers coming back from the dead all the time. Failing to explore the feeling of invincibility that would instil in them, and how reckless that might make them, or how distant from other people. I don't know, I think it would have given them a lot of story ammunition. As it is, they act like death still has the same meaning to them that it always did, which it couldn't possibly after all the times they've come back. It makes all their protestations a bit unconvincing.
Anyway, this is me getting into bitter fangirl territory. I'm gonna stop.
That was...amazing! I told myself don't get your hopes up and my expectations were blown out of the water, it was better than I first heard about it. From the beginning to the very end, I was either laughing or grinning. Everything was perfect about this episode. I will admit that I did indeed scream when Chuck appeared on the screen! I wasn't expecting Chuck at all - since I heard about this musical-ish episode, I figured Becky had something to do with it.
It must have been like 3 years since I last watched SPN? I dropped it midways of S7 and have not watched since then, but last night I made an exception for the 200th episode.
So much nostalgia! The monster of the week aspect was lame, but I always appreciate when the show goes meta. Even though I hate S6 as a whole, "The French Mistake" is still on my top 10 SPN episodes list. "Fan Fiction" got me to remember how much I missed the show and the rendition of "Carry on my wayward son" got me very emotional, to the point I even considered going back into the show.
I still don't know if I actually go through the second half of S7 and watch 8, 9 and 10; I still think the show should have ended in S5 and that is becoming harder and harder to envision an ending to series that would be as satisfying as "Swan Song", and also I don't know if the storylines can be as entertaining and deeply emotional as they were before considering the Winchesters are pretty much guaranteed to defeat every single foe that goes against them, sooner or later, which takes away an important aspect of the show: the high stakes. However, I do miss the joy SPN brought me over the years, and maybe the newer seasons could still be enjoyable, but I don't know if I can actually get back into it.
I really hope it's not the last meta episode! I've liked most of them. A lot of my favorites were metas! That being said, I don't want to be ambushed by them either. A couple every season would be fine by me.
Dean saying, “It [the amulet] never really worked,” just doesn’t feel right. I think Dean has a tendency to cherish certain objects (decorating his room, keeping his cassette tapes, the Impala is pretty much anthropomorphic in Dean’s mind etc.) Now it seems like Dean wearing the amulet all those years was more out of habit.
Authors inserting themselves into stories is not to my liking so I share Marie’s opinion in that. However, I thought that the way Chuck looked at the end was done perfectly.
Your posts always full of Sam hate, so I'm not really surprised, but now rewriting history too!
Dean should feel embarrassed because of accepting a killing mark without caring about Cain's warning, so yes although Dean wasn't in control while a demon, but the people who got hurt because of DD were one of the results of Dean's action and getting the mark in the first place, but I think this embarrassment was just mentioned in EP4 and would never be mentioned again.
And please try to refresh your memory or stop rewriting history, because Sam felt guilty about what he did while soulless, although Sam wasn't who did anything caused losing his soul, Sam apologized to Dean and was guilty about trying to kill Bobby (we saw Bobby say he can't even look to Sam because he tried to kill him, Bobby couldn't forgive Sam in the beginning although he knew he was soulless and he can't even remember anything, we didn't get such a reaction from Sam after DD tried to kill him), we also saw Sam asking Dean to tell him everything he knows about what he did while soulless, and Sam said he should try to fix what he can fix.
Also just two EPs were Dean didn't kill is a disaster?? you don't remember what happened with Sam last season, Sam was almost invalid all season, when Sam was possessed he was always getting hit and faint to be saved by Dean or Gadreel, then after getting rid of Gad everything turned to be about Dean/MOC and Sam wasn't even part of the fights most of the time because we had to see the MOC effects and that meant turning Sam to invalid hunter!
Finally, Saying Sam doesn't do anything for Dean except when wanting something from him is ignorant, if I will list the number of times Sam saved Dean or did everything he could to save him during the series I will need hours, every single time during 10 years except just one time with what Carver tried to do with the purgatory.
So let me just talk about Sam since leaving Amelia, Sam had a chance in a normal life but he gave it up for Dean, Sam can just stop hunting anytime and live a normal life but he is staying with Dean. Dean was turning to a monster and a killing machine with the blade, but Sam still stayed beside him, Dean decided to fight Metatron alone and punched Sam unconscious and left him in the street to stop him from helping but Sam still followed Dean to the unknown to support him, Sam was trying to save Dean with anyway possible after he got stabbed, Sam carried Dean's body to the home, cleaned the blood from the body, put him in his bed and then tried to call Crowley to do whatever deal for Dean, Dean disappeared and Sam did everything he could to find him, Sam knew that Dean turned to a demon who doesn't care about him and left him to be killed by Cole but still kept trying to save him, and finally Dean made it clear that he is willing to kill Sam and Sam knew with Dean strength as a demon he doesn't have a chance in defending himself but still didn't care about his life, and finally after Dean was about to kill Sam without any care Sam still couldn't use the knife of him even to defend his life. So can you tell me what Sam was actually getting from Dean while trying to save him when he was a demon? he was so close to getting killed, so what was the great benefit of that if wasn't for Dean??
Well I finally had time to watch it and need to admit, it was way better than I feared. The promos didn't look promising at all, but it turned out relatively nice. Though there WAS too much focus on the wincest / destiel shipping, imo. Not the best episode, but it was quite good. :) So glad it turned out better than it looked
No Adam actually bugs me more because it kinda undermines the whole "family is the most important thing" aspect of the show. I'm not an Adam fan, but it's bugged me how they just left him down there and never tried to get him out again. I thought at least Sam would understand, having been there for a long time (and Adam being down there so much longer)?
Tell me how are they going too ever save Adam? remember what death said too dean when Dean wanted Sam's soul back one or the other and guess what Dean chose and it was not Adam so Sorry well I would have liked season 6 better if Adam was back and we still have soulless Sam it would have been cooler Right? And the actor was doing movies so why would he ever come back to TV.
Ok, I have to ask, because I've been seeing it everywhere...when did they say Chuck was God? (I know you didn't say he was but I can't remember who did). From what I understood, Chuck was Kripke since he was the writer and "controlling" the characters Kripke said to the actor "What was it like to play God?" as in the controlling force like Kripke was to the show...but they never fully stated that the embodiment of God was Chuck. His disappearance also had to do with Kripke leaving the show, hence why Chuck transcended (like ObiWan Kenobi in Star Wars, Kripke puts references to that franchise everywhere in Supernatural). I figured the return of Chuck symbolized the return of Kripke in that episode since he did come back (I think?) for the 200th, not to write, but to supervise like Chuck did when he watched the show. It was like Thompson was Marie (the writer/director) when she asks Chuck/Kripke if he liked it (meaning what they've done since he left), hence Chuck's "Not bad". Sorry I know that was long but I had to get it out there.
Well, you seem to read something into my text that isn't there. I never said Dean should've chosen Adam over Sam and let Sam rot down there. I just don't see Sam and Dean not caring about their brother Adam who is down there and which isn't really his fault, especially since both brothers have a bad history with being locked in hell. Long odds haven't ever stopped the Winchesters from trying. Also, the writers have pulled off way more unlikely "plots" (like the reaper taxi to and from hell) by now.
I'm not sure if it'd be a good idea, but it's been bugging me since Season 6.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I loved the resolution to the Samulet. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is why Supernatural is still on. Thank you and we are proud for our fandom :')
ReplyDeletePS: OH MY CHUCK!!!

ReplyDelete"Oh Dean. You never should've thrown this away."
"Didn't work for me. I don't need an amulet to tell me how how i feel about my brother."
"Just take it..Jerk."
"Bitch."
Kudos. Kudos. I love it when the writers make fun of us. Congrats again to reaching 200.
The last scene made me cry - so good to see Chuck again!
ReplyDeleteThere were parts where I cringed and said out loud, "This is bad".
ReplyDeleteAll in all I would rate this episode as wierd.
ReplyDeleteI loved it! The girls singing Carry On My Wayward Son had me in tears. I loved seeing Chuck again. Have to say it again I loved it and have no complaints about it at all. It was exactly what I hoped to see for the 200th show. Congrats to all of them.
ReplyDeleteI quit watching after the premiere but had to tune into this one. It was perfect.
ReplyDeleteWhile this was obviously a nod to a very specific section of fandom, it was pretty cute.
ReplyDeleteI actually enjoyed the nods to loose ends in the plot.
ReplyDeleteThis episode i would skip , never watch again...Though it was ok...i want STORY
It is odd that going on six episodes in there is nothing(save maybe the potential witch) that points to any sort of a larger arc.
ReplyDeletei know even last season had a story arc...They couuld of done something with Dean being a demon but quick fix again...
ReplyDeleteI still need time to process. There were parts I didn't like and a lot I loved. I wonder if Dabb and Loflin get hate mail over the Samulet?
ReplyDeleteThis is a celebratory episode so I'm not going to harp on the negative.
ReplyDeleteI loved this episodes, I cried a little at "Carry On Wayward Son" and freaking screamed when I figured out the publisher was Chuck! Even before we saw him, I knew it was Chuck.
Someone on Twitter said there was a Kim Manners reference but I missed it. Can someone fill me in? Thanks!
Dean gave a pep talk to the girls before they performed and he ended it with Kim's phrase "kick it in the ass." It was a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the explanation, I didn't know that, what a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting that Chuck showed up. He obviously was not spirited to Heaven(as some prophets have).
ReplyDeleteWOW just WOW! love Chuck it was great seeing him but its just hard too get over the fact that season 9 was heartbreaking too me and the 3 Eps of this season really pissed me off but it was great that there trying too win back some of the fans who hated season 9 with the new brotherly love stuff and seeing the Samulet did make me tear up a little and seeing Chuck made me Cry. I am slowly getting back too liking the show after going too the ChiCon 4 weeks ago and this Ep made me happy.
ReplyDeleteAnd you know this ep probably pissed most of them off. I the show basically shot down all ships, "I have my version, you have yours."
ReplyDeletemaby he's god?
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! So much better than I thought it would be. The Samulet, Adam, CHUCK, wow!!! Great episode!!! Way to go SPN Family!!! 200 episodes and counting!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was an okay episode, and it did remind me a lot of why I fell in love with it ten years ago.
ReplyDeleteThat's the rational way of looking at things, but as we've or at least I've seen, Destiel shippers are fairly irrational, and willfully ignorant to anything that would entertain the idea that their ship will not be canon.
ReplyDeleteLike the line I quoted, "I have my version, you have yours." You would think that would be the line in the sand saying, that the writers have their own version of the story, but the fans are free to interpret things how they want.
The delusions go deep, I'm already seeing that since Dean didn't puke at the sight of the two lesbians dressed as Dean and Cas, Destiel will still happen.
Well, Carver has been saying for months that there isn't a real big bad mytharc, it's more about Sam and Dean's personal journey, etc...
ReplyDeleteI agree, I prefer touches of comedy. Mostly I don't like Meta. I don't mind little hints but a whole episode based on it - no.
ReplyDeleteSimply fabulous. What a way to celebrate 200 episodes! It truly was a "love letter" to the fans, and this show's ability to poke fun at itself is unparalleled. I enjoyed every moment.
ReplyDeleteThis episode was excellent!!
ReplyDeleteI really loved this episode. It was totally dedicated to the fans and it makes me feel so warm inside. Seriously! it was so special to me, it makes me remember why I love the show.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural will always have a special place in my heart :D
Just. Flipping. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteChuck appearing in the end was perfect for this episode to the point where he doesn't need to appear in some major story arc or what have you.
ReplyDeleteDean still has the MoC and it's going to create problems in future episodes. Dean's very restless and looking for cases on little basis, sort of like Soulless Sam was always looking for Hunts.
ReplyDeletewhat can i say? this episode was awesome. it really shows that they worked hard saying thank you to the fans. it got me right in the feels. im proud to be a supernatural fan. will continue to watch to the end.
ReplyDeleteTHIS EPISODE WAS SO FREAKING AWESOME!!! i loved all the callbacks to the beginning and MY GOD!!! every single title card they've had over the past 10 years did not expect that that was so awesome and the end with God aka Chuck showing up was amazing this was without a doubt a true love letter to the fans this is truly amazing show and i hope we see more years of it
ReplyDeleteBut he didn't show any effects of the mark in this episode , also he is not like souless sam cause he wouldn't have took the neckless and show emotion?
ReplyDeleteI love how Supernatural can make these meta-episodes work. I've always really liked how Supernatural is able to make fun of itself and be so great to the fans of the show.
ReplyDeleteI really hope we see Chuck again this season.
ReplyDeleteI really liked it.
ReplyDeleteAfter alternately facepalming and spewing my drink during the hour, I found myself singing along to Carry On Wayward Son and feeling waaaay too sentimental for my liking.
ReplyDeleteHe was God. If they are giving the fans a nod that's nice but it would be better if Chuck was brought back for the guys to at least learn the truth or have some over arcing reason for his return.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was case at first with the small shot of the trench coat.
ReplyDeleteI am picky as freak and I couldn't find a single thing I did not like about this episode. Easily one of my favorite episodes of all time now. Supernatural can still deliver! 10/10 from me!
ReplyDeleteHappy 200th episode. I have been down with this show since day one. I loved every minute of this episode. I love the way it was a big thank you to the fans and also poked fun at the show too. Like most people i was shocked when Chuck showed up. A+++ work.
ReplyDeleteWell said.
ReplyDeleteLoved it !
ReplyDeleteMarie: "Okay.
ReplyDeleteAs it turns out, I was very pleasantly surprised!
ReplyDeleteSeeing Chuck...I honestly clapped. I loved it so much. What I loved the most, was no supply of guests... But they were instead represented. Wish Ellen Meg and Jo had been represented, but I've only watched once...maybe I missed it. Either way enough were seen.....dear god ADAM! Please ...he has to be rescued... Right??!!
ReplyDeleteThat's the thing. In this epiode(and it's place in the grand scheme of things), Chuck could have served a much more obvious function.
ReplyDeleteNot that I think we will ever get to find out who is right or wrong.
That does assume that "cured" actually takes when it comes to the MoC. It will be interesting to see.
ReplyDeletethe season premier or the series premier?
ReplyDeleteI kinda think the past 5 years have suffered because there hasnt been a decent/well written/cohert 'Big Bad' arc.
ReplyDeletewhat personal journey's? Dean's is obviously the MOC stuff even if they are really slow getting to it but hey they have a lot of episodes to fill and only one main story arc to fill it with. Sam? Not seeing anything at all.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly have steered clear of the "This is obviously the clear cut bad guy formula". That said, it has made for some interesting detours.
ReplyDeleteOh Dear.....
ReplyDeleteI don't think the stuff in this episode would have made any sense if I meant the latter.
ReplyDeleteFor those interested the four original songs will be released onto itunes tomorrow. :)
ReplyDeleteThe way that I viewed it was that Thompson was trying to send the message across that if people want to ship, that's great, but there's a clear difference between what's presented in canon and what's interpreted by others in their own trans-formative works.
ReplyDeleteMe too.
ReplyDeleteI thought they handled it pretty tastefully all things considered.
ReplyDeleteIf there was any episode that showed how little the show thinks of Dean and Dean fans, this was it.
ReplyDeleteSam's had 9 years of personal and mythical arc. Dean gets 3 episodes and that's that, back to the navel gazing and watching Sam be the hero. This show's promotion of DemonDean was just a tease, but Carver never meant it to become a serious story for Dean. It will go to Sam, it always does.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that you feel that way because I saw it as very Dean positive.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time in a while I've been able to say this about supernatural. But that was brilliant. Yes it was cringey it times but I loved every minute of it and laughed the whole way through.
ReplyDeleteThe monster was lame but it was not meant to be the focus so I get that they just needed an easy solve.
ReplyDeleteSo he rallied the girls, yip.
Loved it(:
ReplyDeleteI think that's what he tried to do to, it's just it apparently didn't work.
ReplyDeleteSo it's going to be another year of Destiel shippers calling people homophobes and queerbaiters, because they can't understand jokes or context, and think everything is subtext and literal. Except when it is plainly said on the show.
Yeah, I thought it was Cas too! I was afraid to look but when I saw Chuck I was just... AAAHHH!!! God it's here!!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome. All around. No other word for it.
ReplyDeleteVery cute episode :)
ReplyDeleteLoved the adorable Cas girl and the adorable song she sang and the fact that Dean got to hear that song about Sam appreciating him so much.
ReplyDeleteIt's clear to me that the show heads have made a strategic decision to cater to those fans who were toddlers when the show began.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I guess this season has no larger overarching arc.
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree though I think Seasons 6 and 7 were better than the past three seasons, which seem to be completely aimless. I hated the Leviathans and Dick Roman, but that was an arc. Now, we have nothing.
ReplyDeleteI guess I have a heart of stone or my intense love for the show is gone b/c I wasn't moved at all by last night's episode. I didn't hate the episode, but I didn't love it either. It was just okay to me. I like Meta episodes, and this one was all right. It wasn't as good, IMO, as TFM or TRG.
ReplyDeleteI hated the Samulet scene b/c it was fake!
It was the perfect ode to the fans for such a milestone in the series
ReplyDeleteAh it was so good! Took me back to the good old days of the show. I was getting some serious season 4/5 tingles all the way through.
ReplyDeleteI disagree - they were being open to the idea of viewers seeing things that the writers may not have intended, and saying that those interpretations are still legitimate. Recognising that there are multiple readings to your script and that you don't get to control how people watch it, any more than viewers get to control how the show is written, is a very mature and accepting way to acknowledge shipping and fan fiction in general.
ReplyDeleteYeah probably not the episode you'd introduce people to the show with...
ReplyDeleteI didn't know what to expect going in, but I really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI think they just didn't develop them right.
ReplyDeleteI also really wish they'd dealt with the fact of the brothers coming back from the dead all the time.
LOL watch 1 episode "yeah f*** this I'll come back for the 200th and see whats it like"
ReplyDeleteThat was...amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe girls could have been extremely annoying but thankfully, they were adorably hilarious instead.
ReplyDeleteDitto
ReplyDeleteProblem is with Carver it is like WHAT CANON, he has thrown canon under the bus several times.
ReplyDeleteFrench Mistake is still my favorite meta, but I enjoyed this one, Samulet was a great touch and loved seeing Chuck. Please not Adam.
ReplyDeleteSame here
ReplyDeleteIt must have been like 3 years since I last watched SPN? I dropped it midways of S7 and have not watched since then, but last night I made an exception for the 200th episode.
ReplyDeleteSo much nostalgia!
Anyway, very good episode; really enjoyable.
I really hope it's not the last meta episode! I've liked most of them. A lot of my favorites were metas! That being said, I don't want to be ambushed by them either. A couple every season would be fine by me.
ReplyDeleteDean saying, “It [the amulet] never really worked,” just doesn’t feel right. I think Dean has a tendency to cherish certain objects (decorating his room, keeping his cassette tapes, the Impala is pretty much anthropomorphic in Dean’s mind etc.) Now it seems like Dean wearing the amulet all those years was more out of habit.
ReplyDeleteAuthors inserting themselves into stories is not to my liking so I share Marie’s opinion in that. However, I thought that the way Chuck looked at the end was done perfectly.
Your posts always full of Sam hate, so I'm not really surprised, but now rewriting history too!
ReplyDeleteDean should feel embarrassed because of accepting a killing mark without caring about Cain's warning, so yes although Dean wasn't in control while a demon, but the people who got hurt because of DD were one of the results of Dean's action and getting the mark in the first place, but I think this embarrassment was just mentioned in EP4 and would never be mentioned again.
So can you tell me what Sam was actually getting from Dean while trying to save him when he was a demon? he was so close to getting killed, so what was the great benefit of that if wasn't for Dean??
sorry what show are you watching? Ever sent season 3 its been the Dean show so come on not to get in a fight here but we see the show diffently.
ReplyDeleteMarvelous episode, just brillant and very well executed. One of the best episodes of Supernatural history.
ReplyDeleteWell I finally had time to watch it and need to admit, it was way better than I feared. The promos didn't look promising at all, but it turned out relatively nice. Though there WAS too much focus on the wincest / destiel shipping, imo.
ReplyDeleteNot the best episode, but it was quite good. :) So glad it turned out better than it looked
No Adam actually bugs me more because it kinda undermines the whole "family is the most important thing" aspect of the show.
ReplyDeleteI'm not an Adam fan, but it's bugged me how they just left him down there and never tried to get him out again.
ReplyDeleteAWESOME episode!! Loved every second of it.
ReplyDeleteOn another note, Dean hasn't killed anyone/thing so far, I wonder what will happen once he does.
ReplyDeleteWell, you seem to read something into my text that isn't there. I never said Dean should've chosen Adam over Sam and let Sam rot down there.
ReplyDeleteI just don't see Sam and Dean not caring about their brother Adam who is down there and which isn't really his fault, especially since both brothers have a bad history with being locked in hell. Long odds haven't ever stopped the Winchesters from trying. Also, the writers have pulled off way more unlikely "plots" (like the reaper taxi to and from hell) by now.
I'm not sure if it'd be a good idea, but it's been bugging me since Season 6.
yes its like how can Cas get out Sam but not Adam too I never got that.
ReplyDeleteI totally forgot about that! :)
ReplyDeleteyes! but you know the writer they forget everything.
