Those last couple of minutes all I could say was "No f-ing way". What a twist but obviously I am glad that it didn't turn out to be true. They REALLY had me going. Great episode!!!
Another good episode from Homeland--although most people will be talking about the "Brody Fake Out". It was shocking and very effective in showing both Carrie's lasting guilt about his death, and how deeply her mental state is deteriorating under whatever drugs have been substituted for her meds.
But the real focus of Homeland this season is the espionage and middle eastern politics, that was hinted at in the beginning of the series several years ago. Having Saul as a "shield" so he can return to his wife and family for a short visit, makes the Terrorist oddly "human." And, maybe justifies Carrie's "fire!" order from the previous episode: she realizes that to do her job, she has to give up all love...caring...her humanity. Because those traits will be used against her by her enemies.
The rest of the season is poised to be a roller-coaster ride, with lots to be resolved: Carrie having to discover who she can trust in Pakistani intelligence (and who the double agents are); Carrie discovering she's being drugged--and by whom; the reveal of the Ambassador's husband as a Traitor; and, of course, the rescue of Saul...either by ransom or other means.
I think people are judgmental about this episode not because Brody made a reappearance, but because of the way Carrie's illness was brought back in a steamroller kind of a way. I didn't hate it, and I liked the final image of her unknowingly and literally in the arms of the enemy. I really liked the developments of Saul/Haqqani and Lockhart's arrival the most.
Ive watched homeland, OUAT,resurrection, revenge and twd.I believe ihomeland was the best of these five yesterday.I like resurrection also too shame people not watching it, once got me tired yesterday and twd always good.
finally caught up and watched the ep... wow, really intense and hard to watch as Carrie slipped further and further down the rabbit hole, to the eventual WTF???? last few minutes of the ep that had me questioning what was real or not - I did have to wonder where Max and Farrah were when she disappeared from the hospital as I assumed that they were there with her.... gotta wonder if exposing her relationship with Brody will give the sympathizer ISI/Pak military elements more ammo against her.... I just hope that Quinn or someone will figure out that all is not well in Carrieland and rescue her/help her out
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
What happened to Carrie was really hard to watch. But this was my favorite of the season.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts were: WTF?!
ReplyDeleteWhat an episode though. Looking forward to next week.
Yes, God watching Carrie trip the entire time was pretty F'N rough dude!

Why are there so few comments about this episode? Is no one watching Homeland anymore? That was one hell of an episode. Great stuff...
ReplyDeleteThat progressive mental breakdown had me more than a little uncomfortable... Outstanding performance from Claire! So much darker than last episode.

ReplyDeleteCable shows generally don't have a big following here on SpoilerTV.
ReplyDeleteBest episode of the season! Brody!!
