I'm not liking the dynamics in S3 meaning Sherlock and Kitty just doesn't cut it and Watson getting too big for her head. I miss her compassion and empathy for Sherlock but now it seems she is high and mighty. Sherlock is Sherlock and Kitty is somewhat misplaced. Honestly, I have not enjoyed the show since the season started and judging by the ratings lately I think the feelings is mutual with lost viewers. I miss the old Sherlock and Watson of S1.
I'm surprised people haven't been enjoying this season that much. Sure, Sherlock and Watson are great together, but I've been enjoying the change of pace with them. Truth be told I was getting bored last season because it was just standalone case after standalone case, and I lost interest. Somehow, having Kitty in the mix and the separation of Sherlock and Watson has made the show interesting again to me.
For me, having Watson romantically involved with Mycroft last season was a bad move and again, for me... It went down south. As for Kitty, I can't help but feel that the writers are pushing the viewers to like her character and to accept her. I mean it's 5 episodes back, first they have Kitty as a mysterious female with a dark secret to hide and full of distrust and then the next thing you know it, she connected with Watson who was her adversary from the get go and is now going to an therapy group with her and then all of a sudden, Kitty is giving the Captain advices? Yes, I get Kitty could relate with the situation but damn, it's just too much too soon to absorb.
I thought this was a fantastic episode. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole hour. It's a big call by the showrunners to leave a pivotal main character out but it came together really well, and it proves you can still have a fantastic episode without a core main character in it.
I really enjoy Kitty, and seeing Sherlock learning to face a differing perspective to that of Watson's is being really well executed. I'd have no problems with Ophelia Lovibond becoming a series regular - she's doing a fantastic job.
I wouldn't. I'd say it was a great decision. Often the best way to develop and explore the relationship two characters have is to remove one or two others. It's not like Watson is gone at random - she went overseas. You have to give the creative team credit for doing that as opposed to leaving Watson out out of the blue
The show still doesn't feel right to me. I thought last week's episode was good and I thought that would be the start of the return of the show I've enjoyed for the last two seasons. Now watching this episode, it feels like they've taken two steps back. The Holmes/Watson dynamic is missing and no Watson (very disappointed) in this episode. It's not awkward, but I feel the fun of the show is disappearing and I'm starting to lose interest. Still love the cast/characters and the cases, but something is missing and I don't know how to explain it.
Yeah they definitely made the most of her absence and further fleshed out Kitty, but Watson is my favorite character and the one I'm most interested in watching. I'd like to see her doing more of her own detective work independent of Holmes like in the premiere.
enjoyed the ep... depite no watson, I liked that this served as a vehicle to draw us into the Kitty character a bit more and liked that it served to tie together the Capt/daughter plot as it felt odd and separate at first... also liked getting to see Det Bell onscreen a bit more than usual as a change of pace
I don't have much to say except, I understand a little more now of why you're not liking the dynamics of the season. Thank you for explaining it. Hopefully, the show handles it a little better for you from here on, always sucks to alienate fans of the show because of a storyline.
I loved this episode. Best of the season so far. I've always been slightly annoyed by Joan's character. She's very one dimensional and Lucy's acting isn't all that great either. This was a great episode all the way around and just about every part. The murder mystery, Gregson's storyline and Kitty's further advancement was great as well. I like Kitty/Sherlock more as a duo .
not really loving this season, so much so I keep forgetting its on. think, after this episode, I may just wait till most if not all the season is over to watch it.
I get they are trying to create a sort of longing and tension between Watson/Holmes, and the audience, and on some level that works but for some reason I find it tedious instead of interesting. And while Kitty is an okay character I don't really care about her or the ridiculously tragic back story.
I know most people are wanting Holmes/Watson back in action like it was in S1 but the dynamic started to change in S2 along with Sherlock's personality, complete shift, and now he walks about with a permanent scowl and as if he has a stick up his ass. Maybe this is leading somewhere, I hope so, because it has turned me off to the character quite a bit. Even any interaction between Watson/Holmes feels an inconvenience, awkward and above all annoying for Sherlock.
A prime example of this would be last scene of him and Watson in the kitchen talking about how they were connected. It felt like he was just going through the motions of what he thought he should say then any genuine feeling or connection between the two. The words had no weight/impact.
Exactly Lu! My wife is almost to the point of not watching anymore because she does not like the Kitty character. At the end of this last episode, she said, no Joan, no fun.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
No Joan, I'd say it really was a rip-off :(
