ReplyDeleteGood. Anti-climatic after last week. The best part was the ending, but the whole arc felt like it should have been in season 1. It felt very filler and didn't make sense to me after last week. Maybe that's just me. Was good to see, just at the wrong time.

Less crying scenes for her please btw. EBR is better utilized as a fun character emotional wise she's really lacking.
And could they possibly have gotten a worse actor for Felicitys ex?
That ending is certainly not what went down, it's Roys guilt overwhelming him but if he actually did it...that would be awesome. The writers probably lack the balls for that though

They gave Felicity a very good origin and I really like her mom. I'm bias towards this episode because she's my favourite character ever and I could watch her doing just about anything for five hours, but I loved it! I really really did!
ReplyDeleteEverything between her and her mom and Cooper was very emotional and Emily Bett did a terrific job.
In other notes, Ray wasn't nearly as annoying this episode, but going to his employees house is a little bit too much.
Thea is still shady as f*ck. I just wish she would come clean to Oliver about her relationship with Malcolm.
OMG. OMG. OMG. Roy didn't do it, did he? I'm freakin'.
we need more Felicity=centric episodes, it's just perfect.
ReplyDeleteLiked Moma Smoak - well done when could have been a mess. Liked the tie in with the watch and Moma Smoak's speech about being a single mother with a genius daughter. Is Felicity's boss really that nice- please do not tell me he is going to turn out to be a monster.

ReplyDeleteI did not realize how much I missed Felicity on the show last week, but this episode reminded me of how great she is! I personally loved the back story. Ok, it was predictable, but this is Arrow after all, right?
Charlotte Ross hasn't aged in a decade or two I swear! XD

He didn't do a flip or some Parkour moves! XD
Whenever Flipper comes on the screen I feel like I'm at the basketball game in high school again hearing the crowd chanting at the cheerleader whose name i've forgotten (Rory?) to do a flip! "Rory, do a flip!! Rory, do a flip!" It is just so expected of him to flip here or there. Dammit I missed Flipper this episode!
Laurel gets five minutes of power and almost destroys the fricking city! XD
Such a "Laurel" thing to do.... sigh.
Great to see Thea and Ollie connecting even if she is full of lies as he tries to keep less secrets...

Great episode!!! I loved all the scenes with Felicity and mama Smoak..now we finally know more about Felicity's past, her relationship with her mom, her dad..that was really great! And the end...pretty crazy twist with Roy there, but i'm sure it's just a nightmare..and it will have a explanation! I love all the characters are having their centric episodes and everything is being connected somehow..wonderful season so far!

ReplyDeleteThis episode was a MUCH MUCH needed break from all the angst of the past 3 episodes so I don't mind that it broke the pacing of the season a bit because honestly, I felt like I was drowning in character angst! So glad to have a lighter episode :) And it was a great one at that! Charlotte Ross totally rocked as mama Smoak! And that ending!? HOLY CRAP!
ReplyDeleteI thought this episode was okay. The story was extremely silly and soapish lol. I loved mama Smaok and I'm glad Felicity saved herself and love her interactions with her mother. however I thought the action sequences were poor.

The Roy killing sara is definitely a red herring imo. Someone's playing mind games with him or it's just a bad dream over the killing cop thing

ReplyDeleteMama Smoak was on fire tonight!! Felicity's reaction to her mother showing up on her doorstep was my reaction. So damn hilarious. And many props to the casting department for casting Charlotte Ross as Mama Smoak! It's insane how much she resembles her daughter :) And oh boy, did she have some amazing one liners tonight. Some of my favorites: "How many billionaires do you know?", "Don't you dare threaten my daughter", and "I'm not dressed for nightclub". Really hope she comes back to Starling very soon! I miss her already.
Nice crib, Thea! Damn, I'm jealous of her loft and THAT view! Holy shit, that was insane. Awww, so glad to see that Oliver is moving in with his sister and will donate all of Malcolm's money to charity. But Daddy Merlyn is watching your every move!
I screamed so damn loudly when Felicity knocked out Cooper at the end! HELL YEAH, FELICITY. BEAT HIS ASS. That was so awesome :D
There is no way in HELL that Roy is Sara's killer. I REFUSE to believe it and it's probably the mirakuru still messing with him. But I'm very interested in seeing how this will play out!

ReplyDeleteAwesome episode! I enjoyed the small peak we got into Felicity's past and the relationship she has with her mother. I'm so glad to see Felicity take down her ex-boyfriend. It's step one in toughening her up. Step two is to have her not get so emotionally overwhelmed. Felicity needs to keep her head on a swivel, especially when it comes to working with Team Arrow. Now I'm really curious as to who is Felicity's father. That cold be where the really compelling story with some serious possibilities could exist for her.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Oliver pointed out to Thea that any money she takes from Malcomb is blood money. I can't believe he had to remind her of that, but there it is. The powerhouse scene that is going to take place when Oliver learns Thea has not only been with Malcomb for months but that Malcomb has been training her is the scene I eagerly anticipate with my own bag of popcorn. There is some serious karma coming Thea's way and it is going to totally blindside her. Oliver will forgive Thea because he loves his sister, but that kind of betrayal is not something that can be resolved in one episode.
What a surprise ending with Roy. I don't believe for one second he actually killed Sara, but I can't wait to find out what really happened. As always, I liked seeing Ray in all of his awkward brilliance. He is so kind to Felicity that you just know he is a good man with the best of intentions. It's time to ramp up Ray's presence on the show so we can see what is really going on with this character.
That ending.... What a twist!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat episode nice mix of action and humor. A little bit predictable, I knew the watch would play into the rescue. Loved Team Arrow working together. Freaking loved Mama Smoak!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that not only did Felicity figure out how to call in the calvary but she also saved herself from Cooper.
The flashbacks were great, I really enjoyed the felicity/cooper prison scene, it was sad to see them so broken hearted it worked really well to set up the twist.
The Felicity/Mom fight was beautiful and sad but wonderful to watch. Great acting by EBR and Charlotte Ross, im glad they made up but, I gasped when Felicity said her mom dressed like a porn star, that was low.
Sad but I think Thea is playing Oliver. I did like their scenes together though. Also, I don't think the ending is real, I think it's another fakeout/dead end.
great ep... a bit predictable that the ex-bf would be behind "Brother Eye" (which iirc is a big DC comics thing- nice easter egg), but getting to know more about Felicity and her hot mom and having them both realize a great appreciation for each other was the jewel of the ep.... wtf with the ending? I hope that they don't go down a route with Roy having post Mirakuru ptsd and out of his mind at times and responsible for Sarah's murder. I'm still thinking that Rha's al Ghul is still behind Sarah's death... nice forwarding of Laurel's eventual path to BC, although I didn't care for the writers having her regress from a capable asskicker (like she displayed in S1) to what looked like a novice as she was training with Grant...

ReplyDeleteI guess it depends on how you watched the episode. I literally just watched it anticipating awesome Felicity and mama Smoak scenes which they completely delivered... Everything else was just background noise which is why I didn't mind the villain. But I'm pretty sure a lot of the male demographic and people who don't like Felicity as much won't like this episode for those reasons. Weak villain and not a lot of action and a bit cheesy. Like I said, it just depends on what you wanted out of the episode...

ReplyDeleteEh, it was kinda bland, not "awesome" by any stretch of the mark. I love Felicity, and she deserved more than this generic and cliched romp; I gotta commend EBT, she did elevate the material a lot more than it deserved, and the relationship with her mother was genuinely touching (and the actress that played the mother was very like-able as well)

This whole season hasn't been as good in terms of writing as the last two to be honest; the ideas are there, but nothing is living to its potential.
Anyone noticed that look of shock when Roy's arrow went through that launcher the thug was holding? Lol. Weirdly enough, it's odd for Roy to show any emotion when he's Arsenal, so little subtle moments like that is kinda cool to notice.

ReplyDeleteI literally giggled aloud at your Laurel comment. My husband and I refer to her as "stupid Kate" after the Lost character. Both women who are impulsive and prone to screwing things up. (To be fair, I like both characters overall so don't get mad the moniker "stupid Kate," people!) But damn, they constantly have me shaking my fist at the screen!

ReplyDeleteHow would Roy know the exactly words Sarah said, the exact way she was shot and that she didn't feel but actually was pushed?
I know you could argue was just the way the producers found to make it look similar but... They wouldn't go that much out.
So.... a Ia actually think that the cure didn't really cure Roy, and the mirakuru is acting on him in his times of conscienceless, which is why the writers are always infatuating that he's tired and can't sleep. And by the way, he wouldn't have any guilt about Sarah aside of killing her. At the beginning of the Mirakuru story line he would loose conscience of his actions too, so... I think they did answer their big mystery, at least to us.
And, after all, since Thea is a ring in to become Speedy t Oliver's side, to have him become a hated character to ax him after would be very logical. In a very "jerkiest" thought, the fact that Emilly dating with the actor who plays Roy might've been making its way into the show, as we can see some spark between the characters in those first episodes, which would derail from Olicity, after all the amazing response the Felicity character got, and all the thought and gambling they did on her, maybe would be best lose the rel boyfriend from the equation, you know.
It's Teen Wolf all over again! Instead of Colton turning into a giant lizard and killing people with no memory, he just puts on a hood and kills people with no memory! Guess the mirikuru is still in him? He still doesn't remember that he straight up killed 2 cops!

great but episode but WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ENDING!!!! roy didn't do it i refuse to believe it with all my being i just can't, she knew the person she didn't put a fighting stance she wasn't scared but damn it NOOOO!!! it's not roy it can't be that would destroy roy's character and they won't do that and i keep loving brandon routh's character and him talking all that techie speak is so funny and it looks like merlyn is not liking thea being with her brother the only person who could bring her back to the good side, for a second i thought the training room was under her apartment but thank goodness it's not
ReplyDeleteI actually liked that scene, even if it looked like such a obvious thing to not send the unit, I'd actually send it too, so I would make the same mistake. I usually don't agree with Laurel but on this I can understand the thought. And I guess that the way she talked was because she felt like the guy wasn't hearing her because she's the captain daughter, it was bossy but it was in character. I don't have much to complin about her scenes this week, other than the fact that every scene she looks lost on what she's feeling or saying, which is kind of weird, but maybe is intentional.

ReplyDeleteI think I recall someone mentioning The Atom before, but I wasn't familiar with the character to make a connection. I looked him up. It will be interesting to see what the show does with the character and his "powers"... or whatever ability, gadget, or skills they give him.

ReplyDeleteBut that just sets a low bar of standards; just because it hit the spots that tickled your personal fancy it shouldn't have been so lacking in the other aspects. Felicity and her mom were great in this episode, but the rest wasn't memorable at all, and while you can salvage that (and I am) it doesn't make the episode a great one.
ReplyDeleteFelicity deserved a better episode for her, and settling down for a good/mediocre episode is not good for a character we love.
I wish Oliver and Felicity had more interaction in that episode... They talk and watch each other but they've never even touch. it's so painful....

ReplyDeleteAfter three dismal episodes, this is what I loved about Arrow -- the humor, the character development, the heroines that are strong enough to save themselves.
Perfect casting of Charlotte Ross to play Felicity's mom. I hope she comes back.
The show really needs to spend more time on Felicity and Diggle, even if they don't end up wearing a costume.
That was a fun episode. The last few episodes have been so dark and depressing, it was great to get one episode that was lighter but still gave weight to Felicity's character. Mama Smoak was a riot. The evil ex was predictable and underwhelming but seeing Felicity kick his butt more than made up for it. Go girl! Was it a filler episode in the grand scheme? Yes. But I enjoyed the heck out of watching it, I didn't even care.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so at all. Like I said, it's what you value about the episode that matters. I literally didn't care about the villain of the week because for once, this episode wasn't ABOUT the villain, it was about Felicity. What mattered was how they filled in Felicity's backstory and how they enriched her character. I don't think that's setting a low bar. I think that's setting a high bar because characterization is more difficult to write than plot (villain of the week). Yes, the villain was lame, but Felicity was fantastic. That's what made the episode great for me because that was the whole point of the episode. Felicity.
ReplyDeleteAnd to be fair, Felicity was the focal point of the episode, there wasn't much of everything else (Laurel, the villain, Thea/Oliver). So I'm happy. :p

I think it was me having my hopes too high? I mean, the emotional aspect was there, and I'm grateful for it, but the rest was really cliched and that was a definite bummer.
ReplyDeleteAnd truth be told, it didn't move forward Felicity's character; it strengthened the relationship with her mother, but beyond that, we didn't get anything new in terms of evolution.
And I wanted MORE, I wanted Felicity reaching more of her potential, using more of her skills to save the day; instead, it was about her (presumed dead) ex boyfriend trying to kill her at the end. I wanted Felicity at her Smoakiest, hacking her way to victory, winning in her home turf even when her past was being used against her.
But that the thing, this wasn't a bad episode, it was just bland and that is just so heinous when we are talking about Felicity.
You're right. It didn't move Felicity's character forward because I don't think this episode was about moving her character forward. I think it was more about solidifying her past and helping us understand HOW she became the wonderful woman she is today, thus the title, Secret Origins of Felicity Smoak.
ReplyDeleteThe beauty of it all is that we KNOW who Felicity is today, and now that we have a better understanding of her, we'll get to see Felicity grow in future episodes.
And I LOVED how Felicity saved herself. She didn't save the day, but she saved herself because she's no damsel in distress. I loved that. Felicity is not perfect, she can't always save the day as she has before and I liked that.
I saw this episode more as Felicity then Vs Felicity now than Felicity vs. Ex boyfriend. It's like she was playing chess with herself because she didn't know how to destroy that virus she created 5 years ago. It goes to show just how amazing of a mind she has.
Like I said, we watched completely different episodes (nothing wrong about it!) so we should agree to disagree? Because I could literally talk about it FOREVER. This episode truly made me love Felicity more. It made her into a dynamic character and I LOVED that.

ReplyDeleteFirst Master training, then Elite training, then back to Master, and last was the LOL Soft League training. I cracked up good when they showed Felicity doing 5 sit ups.
I always like those cyber attacks where someone one takes over all the screens, so I like that part. But yea I think most knew from before it was the Boyfriend. Within the episode the best clue was the T Shirt he was wearing in the past.
Great Felicity themed episode.
Also that was clever way to have Ray Palmer in this episode, but for some reason After Chuck I still can trust him.
And at the end, What is Merlyn Feeling? It was no smiles, no smirks, just ---.
I Hope they keep things between Oliver and Thea good like this.

ReplyDeletewow. boobs. — my very first thought when I saw Felicity’s Mom. It’s something about how that dress was cut…which, given how the character was designed, I’m guessing was the point. It worked!
Did anyone NOT know that her ex was the bad guy the moment he showed up in the flashback. I liked the stuff with Felicity’s mom more than her back story. I had hoped for something better with her back story. I’ve seen everything about that story before.... a lot. Disappointing.

I think you theory about mirakuru might be right but the other bit between Roy and Felicity not. Firsf of all, Emily and Colton are not dating, they're good friends, she's always saying in her interviews that she's single and second, Felicity already have three love interests: Oliver, Ray and Barry. Two of them she works with. I would be really disapointed if they turned Roy or Diggle in love interests as well.

ReplyDeleteI tend to ignore any hero-type lead role's lies since they are usually built into the foundation of his character. Of course a person keeps their alter ego hero identity secret from people. Anyone would understand that I think. At least I personally would never expect someone to tell me they had a secret identity... family member or not.
I thought Tommy had no legitimate reason to complain about Oliver keeping it secret in Season 1 and I will think Thea has no reason to complain if/ when she discovers Oliver's secret.
Frankly, Thea had no reason to be as pissed as she was at Oliver for not telling her that Merlyn was her father as far as I'm concerned. I thought she overreacted. It was not his place to tell her their mother's secret.
They're not? Cause I was pretty sure they were. Well, bad info then. Is just I saw some sparkle between them in the first episodes on screen, and I'd really hate to see those two together, at least the characters, so for me it made sense. I mean, since she was elevated to the main girl in Oliver's life, and Laurel still doesn't do nothing to reclaim the slot, I guess they wouldn't like to give her so many 'could be romantic" scenarios, if you know what I mean. Ray is one, but they brought him to be kind of an adversary to Oliver, and if/when he becomes theAtom, a competitor to Arrow, so... It makes sense for the history. Felicity interested in Roy... No way.

There were so many good one liners. It still felt choppy, and frankly the goth chic hacktivist background story was so cliche that more than once I felt like the actors deserved better, because they did such a good job inhabiting the relationships, especially Felicity and her mom.
ReplyDeleteMy reaction to the opening scene of Felicity and her mom, pretty much determined me for the entire episode. "To send a text, you actually have to press send on the text." "Oh, no big deal, I'll do it right now." And I huffed at the TV "Mom, that's not how it works." Yeah, fussing at fictional characters. Needless to say it felt really genuine to me. Loved her mom, loved the geeky Ray scenes and the Oliver trying to compromise scenes. One of my favorite episodes.
But Thea is driving me crazy. What do you mean Oliver doesn't have the right to play the Malcolm destroyed the glades and killed his son card? Yes, he can. Everybody can. It isn't a card it is the truth. The guy is a horrible mass murdered and he does to want something out of Thea--and she knows it. I can't figure her out and frankly I have to chalk it up to either bad acting choices or a bad direction choice because (like they did with Moira) she is playing two positions simultaneously: manipulating Oliver, lying to Oliver, being Malcolm's puppet, all the while she is fussing at him to meet her "halfway" and cuddling up watching a movie. "What do normal people do in the morning"? Really Thea, up until 5 months ago, you were probably still sleeping until 12 and waiting for your maid (that we never saw again after the pilot) to bring you breakfast. Yuck. She has terrible lines and a terrible story. I'm tired of her arc. But then Felicity pistol whipped the bad guy and all was great again.
I totally thought that Mama Smoak was gonna slap Oliver across his face figurally and say something like this: I may be totally not in Felicity's life lately, but I would be really dumb if I didn't see your love for Felicity. Listen, honey, if you really want her, deserve her, you need to be completely honest with her. And by the way, nice moves back there in the warehouse.
ReplyDeleteLoved the episode. Not perfect but really good. The opening montage of everyone sharpening their skills were awesome. So cool.
ReplyDeleteDonna Smoak was the mvp this episode. What a fabulous character. So many great one liners. Can we bring her back once in a while. I loved her and Felicity's relationship and its progress a lot this episode. That scene when she closes the door after Ray Palmer and cringes was fun.
The cyber attack from Felicity's virus was cool but the goth phase was just plain okay. Not that exciting. From the moment the episode synopsis hit we knew it was the boy friend who is the villain. So no surprises there. I hope some one else take this brother eye thing up later on.
Thea is frustrating me. On one hand she clearly loves Oliver on the other she is being really irrational. I hope there is a movement to her story soon. Malcolm is watching over Thea and Oliver as if they are chess pieces. Ray Palmer is so self obsessed and workaholic. He is funny. And I like the buddy relationship he and Felicity is developing.
Loved how Oliver calmed Felicity down and loved the fact that Felicity walked away when Oliver mentioned his feelings for her. Dude... stop talking about feelings.
About the cliff hanger it is very clear Roy did not kill Sara. I am getting a bit annoyed by this whodoneit story line. We will not know the culprit until episode 9. Till then who ever the show throws at us a suspects will be innocent. The undertaking was so much better mystery than this one. Even after Malcolm was revealed as Dark Archer we had no idea what the undertaking was until episode 20 of season 1.
Over all as a Felicity fan this was a gratifying and fun episode.
As far as I have read he does not deslike her but he does not love her either. Considering thi he is not too fond of her thats ok. I try to imagen an episode like this with Sara and I would have totally zoned out at some point. Not because I desliked her but she was not my favorite either.

ReplyDeleteIn this case, especially, Thea has no reason to be upset that Ollie isn't telling her about being The Arrow. He started to tell her and she said the only lies/secrets she cared about were ones that were about HER. The Arrow isn't about her, it's about Ollie. I suspect she is also using that idea, that Malcolm is only about her, not about Ollie to justify why she isn't talking about Malcolm.

I didn't understand why Moira didn't say that Ollie only found out about Malcolm a few weeks ago and was still processing, but that would have had Thea not being vulnerable to Malcolm's "I'm the one who will tell you the truth" spiel.

ReplyDeleteI mostly blame it on the writng, 'cause I'm still sure after reading some interviews that it mostly has to do with them wanting to work against the Speedy expectation or whatever, but like I was fearing from the start of the season, they're just stretching that out so much and weirdly... I REALLY pray she'll have some moment of seeing the light en really realizing again who Malcolm really is. That even though he thinks he cares about her in some sick way, if it served his purpose, he would just get her killed, just like Tommy...
One small comment about Laurel. She didn't acknowledge it, Quentin did :p I loved that Quentin yelled at Laurel, but she should've been fired by now considering she went beyond her scope of authority and Quentin's back. DAs don't have the authority to send a riot squad anywhere. :p But yeah. She had like 2 scenes and the writers managed to mess that up. smh

Well, the episode was bland, and that's being generous, lol. I did like the Thea/Oliver scenes. And for the love of God, can Quentin find out about Sara? So far, this season hasn't really impressed me.

Also Oliver not wanting baby Sarah in the arrow cave was funny, come on Oliver be serious. The scene at QC with Felicity and her mom was heartbreaking. Felicity taking down her not so dead ex was awesome. The whole episode was great.

I don't think Palmer will be evil in this show. He is Atom from comics a super hero on his own. And he was promoted as Atom before season 3 aired. He is even getting an Atom costume. He might work away from or with Team Arrow but he will not be evil.
ReplyDeleteAlso Oliver and Diggle already know Felicity works at QC. In episode 3 Diggle calls her at QC land line after their call got disconnected on mobile. It's understood Team Arrow knows about her job.
As I have said several times before lawyer Laurel is ridiculous. They should just drop that part of the character and focus only on her road to BC. Her being acting DA and sending a riot squad... everything about that was bull shit. When I said Laurel acknowledged it I meant Laurel accepted to Quentin she in her haste escalated the situation. Then she did tell Wild Cat she is angry and people are noticing her actions due to the anger. I took that as her acknowledging her situation. Whatever.. I don't care enough. The thing that bugs me is how underutilized Ted Grant is till now. He is turning out to be like Bronze Tiger who was also announced in SDCC last season. I hope he gets some depth next episode. Why they cast an actor who already has a commitment to another show is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteI like Oliver/Felicity situation. If Felicity reacted any other way than her current awesome self I would have been disappointed. I loved their role reversal this episode. Oliver was calming her and grounding her which is usually Felicity's job. That moment was very sweet like you said. Felicity needed to hear that from him. But then he went and talked about his feelings. I cheered when Felicity once again walked away. Oliver needs to put actions where his words are. Grow up brother!!! Imagine Donna baby sitting baby Sara and all the future Team Arrow babies as our team saves the city :)
I think they are going for a Tony Stark vibe for Ray Palmer. He is this brilliant scientist with no boundary. He barges into Felicity's house and office as soon as some idea strikes him and is a bit absent minded. He is fun.

ReplyDeleteAnd the season 3 curse of the weak odd numbered episode is lifted! EBR was fantastic in the scene where she shouted at Donna at QC. Very character-heavy for the most part which was fantastic. Action scenes were actually the weakest part of the episode, which does make a change. And I have no words for the ending. Actually sat open-jawed for a good 2-3 minutes.

ReplyDeleteI guess my point is either she wants to see how it goes with her brother and is being genuine (while lying and being bratty) OR she is manipulating him for some other end. She shouldn't be playing both options simultaneously. If she's manipulating him we should see that in how Thea acts, and if she is being genuine then, d*mn is she illogically delusional. So for me it has to be a mix and the choice to not show the audience her deviousness is a bad acting/direction/whatever choice. Maybe the writers haven't told her what is happening and they want her to play both, but it makes for a really confusing character. Sometimes I think the writers are playing to a long game and they forget the short one--like trying to get people interested in a show when your lead is a jerk for 9 straight episodes--sure it works for the story for Oliver Queen to start out as a driven psychopath and for everyone around him to just yell at him for it, but it doesn't work for an audience. Sometimes they write the big picture and forget they are telling a story, so they don't leave the breadcrumbs.

ReplyDeletei also found the episode a bit predictable and full of cliches(which is ok cause every superhero show has them) and i kept waiting for the flashbacks to give me sth about felicity's dad but all i got was her ex-boyfriend. However i loved felicity and her mom and i found their scene in the company really touching since it felt real. I could totally see Felicity feeling ashamed because of her mother and her mother willing to be there for her daughter even though she seems to be away. It was so obvious that Cooper was this episode's bad guy and him turning into some crazy pcycho was a little mehhh. I had high hopes for this episode and despite the lack of background story for felicitys dad and her (which i was waiting for them to tease in this episode) i enjoyed most of the scenes especially the first half of the episode. As for the last minute, im totally sure that Roy did not kill Sara but i cound keep myself from thinking after the scene that Slade will be back soom.

I never said you hated Felicity. I agree the way they promoted it suck. I'm not a victim. But I never bullied you. Saying I find 6/0 insulting isn't bullying. It's saying I find 6/10 insulting. I can easily engage in discussion with others Mac, hell we've done well reasonably so far (except in this case and three others). Saying someone is biased is not bullying, it's an argument. Bullying is what you've done where you actually called me a two year-old and called me a crybaby. That is bullying. Oh Mac you have no idea how aware I am of my faults. But I'm not a bully. Nor have I ever been. I'm opinionated, overly aggressive and forceful with my opinions, a bt of an asshole. But I'm not a bully.I backed all my accusations up with examples. When we are argue you commonly belittle my intelligence and maturity. I may use hyperbole far too often but the fact remains that on many shows with any slight romantic pairing you tend to bash (granted many of the ones you bash like Delena are disgusting). Which I get overly shippy shows are really annoying, but blaming the characters for a promotion or for example not liking Oliver and Felicity as character as much because of one date seems really extreme. ReplyDeleteall I'm trying to say is, I barely find the time to argue a lot because, unfortunately, life also has its requirements and I do have to set priorities, that said I often think I should have invested more into an argument.
I enjoyed talking to you too and considered you a more than friendly person. Unfortunately yesterday was a terrible day for me, not completely terrible but not comfortable either and I just came to the conclusion that while I enjoy arguing I just don't find the time to post a satisfying comment for all parties.
I do however took it now and need to set the record straight, not because you got it wrong but because I feel I pushed it out the wrong way:
I don't hate ships, romantic interaction is needed in every piece of media, being a man that grew up hellbent to become a filmmaker I know this and am aware that there is no story without love in it.
But this also means that there needs to be focus on other things, not specifically stating a genre but a general set of story arcs.
I probably view television less emotional and too picky of its context.
The issue I had with Felicity is the easiest there is: I enjoy her and I really dislike to see the character being turned into someone ment to satisfy a shipper base.
It just pains me to see filmmakers selling their souls away for the unconditional love of a part of the fanbase.
In short: I feel like the focus that romance is given is blocking the show from being something it could be and I might be too invested in making the writers turn the show into something better. i will be the first person to tell the writers to actually kill Malcolm when it matters (IMO mid-season 4, through the hands of Thea).
Felicity is too precious to become the Caroline Forbes of Arrow, not saying that she's as obnoxious (far from) but I feel like it would probably destroy the character
As for my criticism towards EBRs acting: this is purely coming from me as a person that wants to see her get better.
I would never advocate the writers to give Phoebe Tonking an acting coach because I know in her case all hope is lost (sorry Phoebe but you and I both know that).
With Emily there is so much potential though!

ReplyDeleteThat's actually a really great goal Mac hope you reach it. I get it. It sucks when shows become consumed by pleasing a ship (I.e TVD). I fear that with shows, but Arrow isn't that. Even in the first season where Oliver had three love interests, it wasn't a romance show. Yeah it is annoying how much Olicity was promoed and it would suck if they were ever the main point of Arrow, but I guess my point is that they're not and they won't ever be as while yes the writers explored that angle, I think it's clear that the writers don't want that. They want to do justice to Green Arrow. I agree in keeping it in the background, but honestly I'm glad the Calm happened. It got romance out if the way, and will hopefully allow the writers to focus more on the story (which they appear to be doing). Regarding EBR it's pretty obvious I'm biased towards her pretty fricken hard. I'm pretty sure I have a crush on Felicity at this point, so sorry I went overboard in my comment calling it an insult (I'm trying to be less opinionated and not doing so well). Lol agreed about Tonkin. Sorry if I came off as an asshole or too opinionated.
