That scene with Hetty & Nell was my fave also.. because it was the only scene in the whole show.. that had any real emotion & dramatic weight to it! Unfortunately..the writers & producers of NCIS:LA...seem to think the only thing most fans want to see are bullets flying & things being blowed up real good!
I agree that was the only scene that had real emotion and dramatic weight, which is why I liked it best, too. I know what you mean - they emphasize the action so much with the shootouts and explosions that they don't always have these nice emotional scenes - and those are the most enjoyable scenes with the biggest payoff.
Tonya. I totally agree..the scenes that a lot of fans care about & find really enjoyable .are the emotional & dramatic scenes between the characters. For these fans...the gun play & action stuff. comes a distant second.
That's why ...I don't understand. why the powers that be on the show..downplay the emotional interactions between the characters..espeicislly Densi....at the expense of showing us more action.scenes of fire fights and speeding or exploding cars..
They are ignoring a large segment of their viewers..and looking at the ratings..I think that approach has hurt the show this season.
You know, I'm still trying to figure it out. Maybe "creepy" was the wrong word. I'm about to post a comment on your review of the episode that tries to explain where I'm coming from. :)
Yes, that's so true! I completely agree. And they definitely don't have enough of these emotional interactions we love. Without them, there's just not a lot of interest. As eventful as the action might be, the episodes are boring without the emotional/dramatic scenes. I hope they start to realize that soon!
By the way, I loved the way you phrased it so much originally ("dramatic weight") that I used it in my review: http://www.spoilertv.com/2014/11/ncis-los-angeles-leipei-review-its-all.html. So thanks for sharing your thoughts! I didn't expand a lot on this idea (I have in other reviews so I feel repetitive sometimes) but I totally agree with you!
Tonya..about my usage of the words..( dramatic weight )...a 1000 pardons mon amie...but.I swear on Deeks' golden mane of Viking hair...I did not read your review of the show... before I wrote that phrase! :)
I guess it was just another case of a couple brilliant & frustrated Densi fans....meeting of the minds!!
(Btw...I read your wonderful review of this weeks show ..and Ill be adding my 2 cents to it on Friday.)
After reading what you had to say and all the responses your words gathered... I found myself agreeing with a lot of the complaints & observations you & the other fans of the show expressed.
What is wrong with the show this season...is precisely what you wrote above..
".. they definitely don't have enough of these emotional interactions we love. Without them, there's just not a lot of interest. As eventful as the action might be, the episodes are boring without the emotional/dramatic scenes."
Like yourself and so many other fans ..Im perplexed..how the powers that be on the show...fail to understand ..that for a lot of the show fans...the action stuff in and of itself...is only one reason...we tune it.
But... its definitely and has never been... the main reason. we like to watch the show.
Like you said...it doesn't matter to fans who care first & foremost about the characters...how many the gun fights & explosions they show us.
If the action stuff... is not accompanied by any emotional & dramatic scenes as you mentioned.. ...it is very frustrating to fans who grave seeing that human element on display.
.The emotional & dramatic elements of the show...has to have at least....the same amount of priority.....in the eyes of the people who write and produce the show I'm just not at all sure..judging by what we have seen so far this season...that.that's the case with the people behind NCIS::LA.
I share with you the hope... that the show runners.get a clue... and stop ignoring this large segment of their viewership who mostly enjoy watching the show for other things ...besides the action scenes.
.....but....I don't know if they will wake up in time or not.
No - I stole the phrase from you! Borrowed it, let's say. ;) That's what I meant before when I said I loved it so much that I decided to use it in my review. I hope you don't mind. You inspired me because it was a great choice of words. But I still think it was a case of the meeting of the minds between two brilliant & frustrated Densi fans who think alike!
Thanks for the nice words on the review. Wasn't it interesting to read all those comments? I found it interesting that most people were thinking along the same lines.
It is perplexing that they don't seem to be willing to go deeper a lot of the time. Much of the time. How can they not understand that action is not the main reason to watch? It's a nice byproduct, but not a reason to tune in. That human element you mention is the most important part of the show. And we need to see more! It IS frustrating! I am also beginning to wonder like you say if the people behind NCISLA realize this important element has to have the same priority as all the extra stuff. I can't figure that out. I also don't know if they will wake up in time, but on a new night but much more competition, they better do it soon! I still share that hope with you, though! Yes... stop ignoring this large segment of the viewership who enjoy more than action scenes!!!
Thanks for alerting me to that snippet in TV Guide from Shane Brennan. That is indeed a disappointment and says a lot about how things are going this season. I wish they would have created a longer arc. I agree the smaller arc stories are not as interesting. They only hold your attention so long. I think it was a bad decision on their part not to have a "prolonged arc" this season. The storylines that continue over many episodes keep you watching and intrigued. Otherwise you could miss an episode week to week and it wouldn't matter. I totally agree with what you said about a team of people saving LA over and over again every episode - it does become caricatures if that is all it is. So true.
And I know what you mean about the human emotions shown in The Walking Dead, too. If they can do it, NCISLA can do it!
We sophisticated viewers of today do expect a lot. But I don't think it's too much to ask.
Hahaha. Well, your 5 million word post might have been long, but it also was very insightful and entertaining! So no need to apologize!
I love all your description about The Walking Dead. Everything you mention is really what keeps the viewers coming back for more! And I loved your line about the characters shooting guns equating to the emotional range of a piece of Melba toast. Lol. So true.
The James Garner Maverick info was also interesting - and makes a great point. We viewers love things that are unique and not cookie cutter. So we hope for more of that on NCISLA!
I also totally know what you mean about the show's producers just giving us more of the "same ol, same ol" when they moved to a new night against Castle. I really would have thought they'd bring out all the guns blazing - give us all the best they have to offer on such a competitive night. Like you say, they should have fought fire with fire. Putting more emphasis on Densi would have helped that for sure. (It's a definite bad thing for the show when Densi fans start to lose interest!) But at the very least they should have tried to connect us to the characters more by developing them further every episode and giving us a reason to keep watching. Not doing that was really a big oversight and makes it feel like they were "asleep at the wheel" like you said. But I hope they start to take notice now that they just can't do the same things and expect people to pick their show over others w/ more emotional involvement and character development. I love the show, but without those things it gets boring. So here's hoping that they have a little wake-up call that gets us back to what we love about the show! Because when they do it right, it's so much fun!
Tonya....I was very happy to read that you found 5 million word post entertaining! As for caring about the show...that I do..but...my caring pales in comparison to your passion & dedication to it.. :)
Your the person who does all the hard work & heavy lifting around here. that makes this board what it is.
First....theirs your timely and enjoyable reviews for each & every episode. Then as if that wasn't enough....you take the time to reply and acknowledge the many posters on the NCIS:LA message board..with your kind and encouraging responses.
So..thank you for all your hard work..and lets hope the powers that behind the show... right what is wrong with the show so far this season...and do their very best to give Densi & their "love story"..the attention & priority that it richly deserves.
It;s high time...the producers & writers.. realize that they are only hurting the show and it's ratings..by downplaying & ignoring Densi so far this season.
Densi is probably not the single biggest reason most fans tune into the show.every week....but I feel safe in assuming Densi fans...are a large part of the show's fan base..and they are definitely..the most dedicated & passionate viewers.of the show.
On Tuesday night..the show use to get on average..something around 13 to 15 million viewers.
Now..its slightly over 8 million...what happened.to the other 6 to 7 million people?
Did 6 million fans of the show...suddenly all lose their TV remotes?
Or...did they forget that the show moved..and still tune in faithfully at 9 PM on Tuesdays..only to be confused.& end up asking their wife's every week......" Honey...where the heck is that loud mouthed Deeks fella?" lol
My guess is,,.those millions who didn't follow the show to Monday. were never Densi fans.....because die hard Densi fans..would tune into the show to see them like clockwork.....even if CBS put it on at 5 am Sunday mornings.
Why the producers are so willing to alienate & potentially drive away Densi fans...is a complete mystery to me.
After-all..who made the cover of TV Guide last season? It was Deeks & Kensi...aka... Densi.
It wasn't Sam & Callen. it was not Hetty or Nell or Eric or ..yikes...Granger!! ( The ONLY magazine I could see Granger's mug on....would be "Dog Catcher" monthly!! ;) )
You are so very kind! Thank you so much for your nice words about my passion and hard work on the reviews and boards. I really appreciate that! It made my day. :)
Here is to hoping that the powers that be "right what is wrong with the show so far this season," like you say. Here is to hoping we see more Densi ahead! Here is to hoping we passionate Densi lovers get what we want. And here is to hoping Granger really ends up on the cover of "Dog Catcher" monthly! Just kidding, just kidding. But that comment you made was too funny to ignore.
You bet & your very welcome mon amie!! It was nice hearing that my comments made your day a little bit brighter! :)
I;m sure everybody else who's reads your reviews & comments regarding the show ever week... also appreciates all your fine efforts!
As for seeing more Densi ahead...maybe our hopes & prayers have been finally answered...as the extended sneak peak for Monday' 's episode. had a very entertaining Densi scene! I.m keeping my fingers crossed...that this is the start of some really fun & great Densi moments coming this season.
Regarding our buddy Granger......I would love it... if he turned out to be the mole!!!.
Unfortunately .....just because Granger bears a striking resemblance to a weasel...and acts like something that spends a lot of it's free time alone & underground covered in dirt lol.....I know it won't be him!!
Im happy you fot a laugh out of me poking fun of our beady eyed looking buddy Granger! :)
I don't know about you... but personally...I thought Miguel Ferrer did some of his finest & very best acting this week.....when he was shown unconscious in that wrecked car!! lol ;)
Loved all the Densi we got this week! My fave Densi scene..was when Deeks smelled Kensi's hair!
Deeks was all business in that scene..but once those large & mighty Viking nostrels... got a whiff of Kensi's lavender smelling brown locks.....Deeks got easily distracted!.
That tells me.....that for all intents and purposes... Kensi is the human equivalent of somebody shouting "Squirrel!"... to Deeks. lol :)
He's crazy about Kensi..and while Densi's love story has been frustating to a lot of Densi fans so far in S6.....at least Deeks is not being coy or very subtle ...in letting Kensi know... how he feels or thinks of her.
Now ..all us Densi fans gotta hope for is... Kensi stops playing so @#$% hard to get!! lol :)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
That end scene between Hetty and Nell was just amazing, they have such a unique relationship!
ReplyDeleteThat was my favorite scene, too! I love their connection. :)
ReplyDeleteReally? It kinda creeped me out, and I can't figure out why!
ReplyDeleteReally? It creeped you out? If you figure out why, let me know! I thought it was really poignant.
