NCIS - Grounded - Review: "Snow angels"
Nov 28, 2014
DV NCIS ReviewsWe finally met Bishop's husband on the latest NCIS episode as the couple was stuck at the Dulles airport with Tony. Togther, they also investigated a possible terrorist threat at the airport.
Bishop and Jake head out to celebrate Thanksgiving with Jake's family while Tony waits at the airport for his father to arrive from London, but all flights are grounded due to heavy snowfall. At HQ, the team is alerted of chatter of a terrorist attack at the Dulles airport so they immediately tell Tony and Bishop. A suspicious Bishop had earlier seen a man whom she recognizes, but when they see a gun and stop him, it is revealed he is an air marshal. Still not satisfied, Bishop sends some pictures and a fingerprint to Abby, which reveals that he is indeed not the air marshal he says he is. When the trio attempts to arrest the imposter with help from the TSA, they find him pretty dead in the bathroom. The killer also took the imposter's gun, which makes the threat even bigger.
Meanwhile, the terrorism chatter has changed: it is now said there will be an assassination attempt. The team finds out that the arriving London plane has two agents accompanying an unknown third person. That person is later identified as a drug cartel member, and the team deduces that one of the waiting flight passengers wants revenge on him. Fortunately, Tony shoots him before he can hurt anyone. Bishop and Jake leave for their destination while Tony has to come back a day later because Tony Senior missed his flight. Also, Gibbs agrees to making one snow angel after being persuaded to do so by Abby.
This was a good episode. I liked the introduction of Jake and loved seeing him work together with Bishop and Tony. It's clear that Jake was surprised to see how Bishop's current line of work changes her. Also, because Bishop is no longer NSA, they can't discuss these things at home anymore. Jake wasn't of much help during this episode, but I'm hoping in future we will learn what he does at the NSA exactly. Another plus of this episode, is that it's always nice to see Tony in action mode and in charge of an investigation. The case was refreshing and it was really fun to see so much of the story on the airport. The only thing that was missing was Gibbs making a snow angel, but besides that this was a nice Thanksgiving episode!
There is one thing I'd like to mention about the season in general: I miss Vance! I think the last time we saw him was episode 4, which is like five episodes ago.
What did you think of this episode? Did you enjoy the case of the week? What are your thoughts about Jake's introduction? And would you have liked to see Gibbs make a snow angel as well? Sound off in the comments below.

I really liked this episode because Tony and Bishop worked well together. She's a probie, but she has great teammates to learn from. I'm definitely glad that Tony is through acting the fool and is back in full action mode. BTW, Jake is a lawyer for NSA. Finally, I wish they had ended with a shot of two snow angels side by side, but I will definitely take that smile from Gibbs! Two thumbs up!

Jake was a lot nerdier than I was expecting, but it worked. All in all I enjoyed this episode very much - best of an already great season for me so far. I'm really hoping that we get to keep this new, competent Tony.
ReplyDeleteIs it mean of me to not miss Vance? Actually, not Vance specifically but the Director in general. I much prefer when the director is more of a recurring character than a regular one - much like it was with Director Morrow.
ReplyDeleteAs for Senior, I'm glad he "missed" his flight and I'm glad he left Tony hanging. Partially so he'd be there for the case but mostly because it looks like they might be reverting the elder DiNozzo to what he was presented to us in "Flesh And Blood"; selfish, shady, dismissive - a jerk.
I enjoyed watching Jake gain an appreciation for what Ellie does at NCIS. Yes, she could talk about it but hearing and seeing are two different things. I also loved him saying he "kinda had to" confront the phony air marshal when he was rude to his wife.
I enjoyed "Bish" following Tony's lead even though they were "off-duty". Also enjoyed her coming up with using the sticky part of a "Band-Aid" to lift the print off the fake air marshal.
Loved it! Smart, funny, tough-cop Tony, and a strong team presence. Really like how Tony and Bishop work together, and how he's mentoring her. Also great to see Abby, Ducky and Jimmy working with the team in the bullpen. And Jake was an enjoyable character, blending well with the rest of the team. Also nice to see a Gibbs' smile. Been too long. Hope for more of this strong, take-charge Tony, and the cohesive team all working the case and supporting each other.
ReplyDeleteAgree with everything you said here! Very nice to see Tony in charge and I'm hoping to see more of that.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Director in a recurring role worked better, but personally I really like Vance so I miss him around.
ReplyDeleteDo you like Senior as a jerk? I much prefer him when he has some heart-to-heart moments with Tony like in "You Better Watch Out" or "Dressed to Kill".
I enjoyed Jake as well and I would like to see him return!
I agree, this season is great! And this episode was a good example of that. I too am hoping we get to keep the competent Tony!
ReplyDeleteI prefer the Senior that we were told about. The man who told his son he'd end up in the gutter one day. The Senior who disowned his son when he as just 12. The
ReplyDeleteSenior who dumped his son in boarding school (also when he was 12) and summer camps. The Senior who left his son in an island (Hawaii) hotel (12 again) and flew back to the US Mainland. The son who wasn't close enough to his son for that son to tell him he was dying/nearly died of the Pneumonic Plague and the one who's blown him off most of his life - who "ahemed" the icky neighbor woman in his bed and when confronted about it (Tony's sanctuary) he shrugged it off with that "I am what I am. I'll never change".
I also believe he showed up that 1st time because the bank notified him that "Junior" was on to the fact that Senior's name somehow was still on/got back on Tony's trust fund account.
I like Rocky Carroll but I'm not a fan of Vance and how he inserts himself into "field work". I did like his home life when Jackie was still alive.
