UPDATE: I hear another actress has been added to the list of those testing for the lead in Marvel/Netflix’s Jessica Jones series, The Divide star Marin Ireland, who just became available after the WEtv drama was cancelled. I’ve also updated the list of candidates for the part of Luke Cage with a third name, Cleo Anthony.
I hear Marvel is assembling a field of actresses invited to test for the lead of the company’s straight-to-series Jessica Jones drama for Netflix. I hear it includes Krysten Ritter, Alexandra Daddario, Teresa Palmer and Jessica De Gouw. All fall within the age range of 25-33 listed on the breakdowns for the role.
Spearheaded by Melissa Rosenberg, the 13-episode drama — the second in a four-series Netflix-Marvel deal — centers on Jessica Jones, a superhero suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder, which leads to her hanging up her costume and opening her own detective agency, where she ends up helping people and assisting other superheroes.
I also heard two names mentioned as being in consideration for the male lead Luke Cage: Crisis‘ Lance Gross and The Good Wife and The Following‘s Mike Colter. Cage is designed to appear in 6-7 episodes of Jessica Jones and then topline his own series, the fourth in the Netflix-Marvel package that includes Daredevil, starring Charlie Cox, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. The characters from the four shows band together for a miniseries to close out the storylines.

I don't know much about Jessica Jones but I'm pulling for Alexandra.
ReplyDeleteI am severely conflicted between Alexandra Daddario and Krysten Ritter. :)
ReplyDeleteI too don't know a ton about Jessica Jones, but Krysten Ritter could pull off heavy drama and lighter moments and is a star on the way up they should grab.
ReplyDeleteI would love Krysten Ritter in this role! Glad we are getting more info about the otter Netflix shows. Still want Terry Crews for Luke Cage but his commitment to B99 makes it unlikely.
ReplyDeleteAll good choices but majority of the people are going to hope that Krysten gets it.
ReplyDeleteOut of the actresses mentioned, I would love for Alexandra Daddario to get the part.
ReplyDeleteLove Teresa. She is so hot!
ReplyDeleteDon't push my Jessica into the Marvek world there are plenty Huntress stiries to be tokd yet
I like all of them but i would prefer Jessica De Gouw or Alexandra Daddario.
ReplyDeleteLike most of us here, I know practically nothing about Jessica Jones, but hot damn, these are some really great actresses who are really on the rise. Any one of them would be a great pick. I don't think there's any losing here.
ReplyDeleteMy vote goes to Alexandra, I'd really like to see her in a lead role.
ReplyDeleteNot really into Teresa Palmer but the other three, god they're such good choices, my only complain is that this would probably keep Jessica de Gouw from reprising her role as the huntress in "Arrow" and I'd also like to add that Krysten is quite an interesting choice, she'd be great.
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about the character but Alexandra get's my vote.
ReplyDeleteYes....yes..and more yes..
ReplyDeleteI'm iffy on her, when I think PTSD super heroine, I just can't see it.
ReplyDeleteprobable Unpopular opinion but is Eliza Dushku available or is she too old? I miss Eliza...
ReplyDeleteAlexandra is the best, loved het on True Detective, her eyes are stunning and she is the bustiest of those 4, so her please <3 I'm not aware of teresa palmers work, Krysten doesn't look appealing to me especially after BrBa (she could act though). Jessica for the role of Jessica, anyone? :D she is gorgeous and I liked her in Arrow and Dracula but Alexandra is my choice!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see Alexandra, know very little about her, but she fits Jessica imo.
ReplyDeleteDaddario is perfect for the part look-wise
ReplyDeleteKrysten Ritter please!?!? When I heard about this Jessica Jones series, I hadn't really thought about her for the role, but this would be amazing, I was really upset when I heard Mission Control wasn't going ahead. If not Krysten, I think Alexandra would be quite good in the role. I like Teresa, but I'm not feeling her as JJ at all. And as for Jessica De Gouw, I've only seen her on Arrow, but I wasn't all that impressed with her, decent enough as a guest star, but I couldn't see myself tuning into a show being led / carried by her.
ReplyDeleteJessica De Gouw. It has to be her!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to get into TGW for years and couldn't, but loooved Ringer, so that's exactly why the name rings the bell for me too! :)
ReplyDeleteCall me selfish if you must, but I hope Jessica De Gouw doesn't get the role. If she's signed with Marvel, you can bet that she'll never appear as The Huntress again on Arrow.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think so? I am actually surprised by the support on here...pleasantly of course, because I love me some KR.
ReplyDeleteAlexandra Daddario gets my vote!
ReplyDeleteAlexandra Daddario all the way! :D
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the hot Alexandra Daddario, I like her since Percy Jackson.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of that potential casting at all. I've never really liked her in any of her serious roles. She is great in comedies but a drama? Yuck.
ReplyDeleteSee has a fanbase,
ReplyDeleteI'm all for Lance Gross as Luke Cage. Fantastic actor with a great resume and reputation.
ReplyDeleteKrysten Ritter is great, but I don't really see her as the "super strong invulnerable" type. Marvel's casting has pleasantly surprised me before though. I originally thought that de Gouw could be good, but I don't know if she has the light touch necessary to pull off a sensitive portrayal of PTSD. I guess I'm leaning towards Daddario, but ultimately this is one of those rare "I trust the producers" moments for me.
ReplyDeleteIn the comics, Jessica Jones was a classmate of Peter Parker's who also gained super powers. After seeing Spider-Man fight a villain in their classrooms (one of those 'the villain figures out where Spider-Man goes to school' stories) she decides to become a hero herself.
ReplyDeleteJones is eventually captured by Purple Man's mind control abilities, and she is his prisoner for eight months. While his captive, Purple Man forces her to watch him have sex with a series of women, and mind controls her into believing that she loves him and wishes that she were one of the women that he is having sex with. Eventually Purple Man sends her to kill someone, and the Avengers beat her severely until Carol Danvers (now Captain Marvel) recognizes her and intervenes. She recovers for a while in SHIELD care and then -- devastated that she was under mind control for eight months and nobody ever looked for her or even noticed her absence -- she retires from superheroing and opens up a private detective agency.
She was introduced in the pages of Marvel's mature readers imprint (MAX), if this all seems a little graphic to you.
isn't deouw The Huntress on Arrow so is she allowed or
ReplyDeleteFrom what I had heard about what this character experiences and the choices she makes I was hoping that they would cast a slightly older actress. Enough with the 23 year olds. I thought this set of shows was going to be a gritty urban take on superheroes. I would like to believe that there will be this diverse group of people will come together to protect Hell's Kitchen. Sassy 22 year old doesn't say that to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the summary. I knew some points but that sounds like a harrowing set of circumstances and needs a slightly more mature actress to play this role. That is if the writers want to include any of this plot in the tv show.
ReplyDeleteWell don't all of them have one? Ha.
ReplyDeletethat's true which is why i find it weird that they're considering her, well then again adrianne palicki was on Smallville which is DC and now she's on Marvel
ReplyDeleteCleo is good eyecandy.
ReplyDeleteHoping for Alexandra Daddario or Teresa Palmer.
ReplyDeleteTeresa Palmer would have my vote, I don't really care for any of the others. Whoever gets it, it will be great to have a female-led superhero series.
ReplyDeleteReally want Krysten Ritter to get the part, she's amazing!
ReplyDeleteMarin Ireland is a perfect fit.
ReplyDeleteLuke: Cleo Anthony or Lance Gross; OR Brandon Bell, Mehcad Brooks, or Marque Richardson.
ReplyDeleteJessica: Alexandra Daddario or Teresa Palmer; OR Jessica Lowndes.
Ha, glad to see I'm not alone! Oh "Ringer", you were ridiculous, but I miss you so.
