The residents of Gracepoint say goodbye to an innocent man, who was wrongly accused. Lars Pearson returns home and The Search is on for Tom Miller, which leads to a startling discovery.
The episode begins with a chilling image of the town, empty. The camera then turns its attention to Jack's Kayaking shop, shadowing his death. We then see a daunting article on the front of the paper clearing Jack's name, it's a bit too late for that. The residents of Gracepoint should have believed their friend instead of outing him from the community and looking at him with disgust.
It is the morning of Jack's funeral, everyone attends. It is quite unsettling to know that the killer is likely amongst them. Emmett and Ellie are there to keep an eye on everyone, to see who is acting nervous. I won't go into what happened at the ceremony, but we do hear a touching speech by Paul. "Jack Reinhold was a good man, and as we found out this morning an innocent man. So why are we here? Because we let him get smeared and intimidated, we were absent when he needed us. We failed him" I literally couldn't have summed that up myself any better. It is such a horrible thing for a man, especially of Jack's age to be ganged up on by people he called friends a day earlier.
Later in the day whilst back at the precinct, Ellie receives a call from Tom's school saying that he hasn't shown up. Much like when Beth didn't know where Danny was, panic kicks in for Ellie and for Joe, who normally walks Tom to school , but didn't since the little brother dropped his toy and Tom didn't feel like waiting. Ellie instantly assumes the worst has happened and that the killer has struck again. At the time when he went missing I assumed he must have gone off to see Lars Pearson after writing down his number in the last episode, but he wasn't there. Where did he go?
Ellie and Carver head to the Pearsons house after being informed he was back in town, which looks very dodgy from their point of view turning back up when Tom goes missing. After arresting Pearson, they interview him, which is when we find out that he takes anti-psychotic pills. He did seem a bit out of it in the interview, as if he wasn't really there. Lars Pearson confirms that he spoke to Danny which we already knew. He says that Danny was looking out for whales, he also likes whales. Danny asked him as Pearson was walking what the capital of Hungary was, which is Budapest. Then he wrote his number down on the crossword so Danny could call if he needed to talk. It all sounds harmless, but there is something about him that just makes him look guilty. When he kept repeating "He is a good looking boy" over and over, this sounded very creepy, and didn't make him look any more innocent. I wonder if he is our killer, at the moment he is the most likely person to have killed Danny. He looked very nervous in the interview, and just happened to disappear when Danny died, and reappear when Tom went missing. It all seems a little to convenient for me.
Some other things to note are that Vince had blood on his hands, and he looked like he was putting something in the freezer. I don't think there is anything to it, it just looks like he is hiding something and it makes you think Tom is in the freezer. Who knows, maybe he is. Speaking of Vince, his real name is Nathan which means he has had a name change, I wonder why. He also tries to pay Susan off after she gives brownies to Vince's mother, who I believe isn't his real mother. Susan has to be related to him, it is the only logical reason for her coming to Gracepoint. To find her son, which she might have had to give up at birth as maybe she had to go to prison or something. We also find out Vince has a short fuse after he violently grabs Susan by the throat. Like Carver said people are acting nervous, and are starting to show themselves. We also learn news that Renne Clemens has left town after Jack's death, this just shows us how she can't stand the heat or the bad publicity. If she would have kept her nose out of it, Jack's secret may not have been revealed, but as always with her she only cares for herself. I just wish she was stuck around a bit more, so the guilt could really damage her.
Much later in the episode the residents of Gracepoint start a search party for Tom, with Mark leading it. I think it is very noble of Mark to be there helping considering what he has been through. He looks determined to find Tom so the Millers don't go through the same pain he and his family have been going through. Mr Connolly reappears and tells Beth that Tom has been hurt and is bleeding, which she later passes on to Joe Miller. I am still not entirely sure that Mr Connolly is a psychic, he does get things right, but then he comes out of nowhere and makes these assumptions all the time. They are not really assumptions as some of the things he has said are fairly obvious. I think we can even include him in the suspect list, as he seems to know a little too much, and this psychic business could just be an act. They continue to search the woods where Tom was seen last, and they come across Tom's abandoned bike. At this point we don't know where he went, if he is dead or alive. He could have continued going through the woods, but we still don't know where he was going. The search is definitely on for Tom Miller, but the question is, are they to late?
Episode 7 Prime Suspect
Lars Pearson
It was really hard choosing a suspect this week since nothing really happened to make anyone look guilty. The only thing off with Pearson is that he went missing when Danny died and resurfaced when Tom went missing. He also spoke to Danny and had contact with him, which he gave his number to him. He also takes anti-psychotic pills, and looks a bit out of it.
Summary
Another great episode, although we are still no closer to finding the killer. We now have another child missing, with lots of potential suspects. The show is definitely hotting up, taking its own route away from Broadchurch. It is introducing new storylines which makes the show better and more intriguing. I cannot wait to find out who killed Danny Solano, and where Tom is.
As always , thank you for reading! Let me know in the comments what you thought of the episode!
