Fox is taking a shot at a U.S. rendition of the BBC detective drama “Luther” with series creator Neil Cross.
The network has given a put pilot commitment to the project, which will be written by Cross for 20th Century Fox TV, Chernin Entertainment and BBC Worldwide Prods.
Original series star Idris Elba is on board as an exec producer but is not expected to star in the Yank version. Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope, Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner also exec produce.

SERIOUSLY? ..................... WHY?
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame disqus doesn't let us swear.
ReplyDeleteNope, FOX is not going in a smarter direction I see.
ReplyDeleteAnd there I thought Gracepoint would go on Reilly but turns out someone else was responsible for that...
Where is the movie that they promised??
ReplyDeleteLuther is a great show hopefully people watch the American remake but go back to the source material to see the brilliance of Idris Elba
ReplyDeleteSeriously? This is getting ridiculous. Luther is a brilliant show and they shouldn't touch it.
ReplyDeleteThis is just pathetic. They already tried it with Gracepoint and look at those results.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be a bad idea of they didn't always manage to totally screw these Brit... remake shows up... I don't know if its because they totally go off from what the org show is about or because they try to put an American spin on them....
ReplyDeleteThat was my first reaction as well. Now Luther isn't nearly as tied to one storyline, so they can avoid doing a line by line remake. Luther worked for me for two reasons Idris Elba's intense performance and Alice, which is also because or Ruth Wilson's performance. The ONLY way this works for me is if they cast Luther properly i.e. a strong charismatic black actor and they keep Alice the obsessive sociopath that she was in the original AND she too is played by a strong charismatic actress. I don't know if Fox will cast right and I really doubt that they will allow an Alice character to be the type of protagonist/antagonist she was in the original.
ReplyDeleteThere is only one Idris Elba and they've already failed at this with Gracepoint.
ReplyDeleteExactly.
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteJust no.
That is all.
At least Idris Elba won't be playing the main character in this version unlike David Tennant with Gracepoint.
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of Broadchurch and was a bit confused as to why FOX would remake a year old English language series like they did with Grace Point. I just do not see the reason or need to do so.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I was intrigued to see how FOX would handle it. I watched the pilot and it was solid, but why remake something if they were just going to do a scene for scene re shoot with American actors (for the most part).
I might be okay with FOX doing a sequel to the series with Luther at a later point of his career, but they would need Elba in the role for it to be Luther in any form as far as I'm concerned.
Just re-run the original this way they can't blow it.
ReplyDeleteNo. Huge mistake IMO.
ReplyDeleteyou know American tv... sad to say we'll more than likely get something that's so watered down...it will be nothing like the org
ReplyDeletehe's not gonna do it... he's knows what the deal is... they aren't gonna get him in that trap of terrible American remakes.....probably said exec producer is as far as he'll go..... lol
ReplyDeletethe answer is simple: money
ReplyDeleteI loved Broadchurch. I haven't seen Gracepoint. I heard it's not good. I know in the beginning of the season, it was a carbon copy. I know it has broken off from the storyline of Broadchurch now.
ReplyDeletejust no. why do they have to remake everything? it just taints the original
ReplyDeleteNO. Luther is one of my favorite shows ever and this remake won't even come close to it. As much as I love Idris I'm not watching it. At least he is doing the smart thing and he isn't staring again.
ReplyDeletedidn't they learn their lesson with Gracepoint?
ReplyDeleteThe same reason they remade Broadchurch.
ReplyDelete#Luther is coming back to where he belongs. Back to London. Back to work. And back to BBC One.
ReplyDeleteIdris Elba will reprise his role as DCI John Luther in two hour-long specials for BBC One. LUTHER will film in and around London in March 2015 and will be broadcast on BBC One next year.
