Well, I think all hopes of Antonio and Laura getting back together are gone. I sincerely hope they find some way to pull through, but something tells me they are looking to free up Antonio (I’m looking at you, Nadia).
Antonio’s FOP rep tells him and Voight that because Asher was a wanted criminal (unbeknownst to Antonio), Antonio could lose his job because of his affiliation with him. They’ve got two days to close the case. If they don’t, Antonio’s could lose his job and pension. I’d be willing to bet he doesn’t lose either…
Right away, Voight tells Olinsky to “draw up some paperwork for Antonio.” When Ruzek questions Olinsky later, O says, “There are ways…to rewrite history.” Is it just me or could Olinsky totally pass for a mob boss?
When Ruzek finds out that Asher and his wife frequent a sex club, he turns into a middle school boy, and it’s hilarious.
“What…what was it like inside?”
“Don’t tell him, man. He’ll be useless to us the rest of the day,” says Halstead.
Roman didn’t know Asher was a felon, and his immaturity shows in his inexperience. The guy even interrupts Voight – several times – during a single conversation. I thought Voight’s eyes might pop out of his head! Roman was heavily involved with the unit on this case, and it seems that he’s got a more questionable past than I initially suspected. I liked seeing him work with Intelligence, and would be perfectly happy if he and Atwater traded places.
Antonio questions Layla and let’s just say she had a special relationship with her husband (and many other men…). She’s clearly hiding something, but she does it behind a calm, cool, flirtatious exterior, almost as if she wants Antonio to keep looking into the issue.
No one will give the team a warrant for information about the sex club and its patrons, so the team decides an undercover op is the way to figure out who Layla was conspiring with.
“Any volunteers?” asks Voight. Naturally, the hands of Halstead, Ruzek, and Roman shoot up. “It’s gotta be a couple,” Voight starts, “Halstead and Lindsay.” Yes! See, even Voight knows they’re great together. Now he just needs to get rid of that pesky fraternization rule of his and we’re good to go!
Ruzek is hilarious, and it’s a trait of his that has seriously been underused. Remember when he posed on the stack of money last season for his “rap album”? I want more of that Ruzek!
Halstead says to Lindsay, “Look, whatever we gotta do to come across convincingly in there, I’m prepared.” I bet you are, Halstead. I bet you are. All that confidence seemed to fade away, as Halstead’s clearly uncomfortable inside. “This is a sex club. People have sex in there.” And “You see that? You see what was happening there?”
When the team discovers that Asher’s will leaves Layla nothing, their convinced she hired someone to rob and kill Asher. Terry, Layla’s errand boy, was set up. Layla made Terry she believed she loved him, and then had him kill Asher and steal the diamonds. Of course, Layla’s no idiot. She switches the real diamonds with cubic zirconia and gets away clean, while Terry takes the fall for the murder.
When Layla shows up to meet Antonio, she’s clearly smug about getting away with murder. I don’t see Antonio dropping the case, and I bet we haven’t seen the last of Layla.
The lawyer offering Lindsay her own task force shows up yet again. Erin hasn’t made a decision yet, and now there’s a clock on the offer. Considering the lawyer gave her about a week and PD is on hiatus for three weeks, I’d say we see Erin’s decision in the next episode.
Remember that “paperwork” Olinsky was working on for Antonio? It’s a nine-month file detailing Antonio’s undercover work for Asher. This of course saves Antonio’s job, and proves that this unit is a family, and blood runs deep.
I’ve said it before, this show is very well-written. It has a great cast and compelling characters. The problem with a bigger cast is that it takes us longer to get to know them, and not everyone gets a shining moment in every episode. If tonight’s episode proved anything, it’s that the world could use a little more Ruzek. Or a lot more.
What did you think of the episode? Will Erin accept the new job offer? Which character do you want to shine more?
