OK, the last episode and this first SP are the examples why were all the blame thrown at Marlowe was rightful an true. It looks like after the given shitty opportunities with the season premiere Amann managed to start to steer the show back to the course where it was good.
It's a very telling tale that while Marlowe didn't think important that we should see how their closest friends reacted to the proposal and Kate's leaving the precinct for Washington, Amann took the time to deal with it after their wedding. It was on the comic relief level, but at least there WAS something.
The first SP shows how much Marlowe was simply talentless when he said that because of the COTW structure his hands are tied regarding the continuity. Their arrival to the scene was the copy of 3x08 Murder Must Fowl ("Strangest pet you ever had? You"), and the Turner and Hooch reference was perfect. It required nothing else just the intention to do it, it has nothing to do with the COTW.
Unfortunately Castle's character is mostly the same hopeless goofball as he was in the previous seasons, so the show couldn't gain back my previous love, but Amann has been doing much more and far better in less than half a season than Marlowe had done since S3. If they keep it up, I assume the show could gain back a portion of its previously lost viewers, and make this season either a good start for some more or - if the main cast doesn't want to continue after S7 - make this one a perfect last season.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
so do LOVE this show. Love the references to Mcmillam and Wife, Hart to Hart and of course Turner and Hooch
ReplyDeleteI loved the reference to season 1 with Turner and Hooch. Too Funny

Just nitpicking: it was S2, the end of the season opener ;P
ReplyDeleteJust a typo I knew it was when Kate accepted his apology.
