I've been looking forward to Katie Cassidy becoming Black Canary since Arrow started. She totally kicked ass as Ruby on Supernatural so I have no doubt that she'll do so as Black Canary. It's about time she was given something good to work with on the show because up until now, Laurel kinda sucked.
Love it! Now let the hate begin! Can you imagine? If the photo of stunt double resulted in about 500 posts of, mostly, hate, this one has to break that record, lol!
Only a significant, SIGNIFICANT time jump will make me believe that she can be BC SEVEN episodes after getting put in the hospital after a pathetic attempt to do good.
She has been training, in the preview pictures for next episode you can see her arms and back, muscles everywhere. And even in pictures from previous episodes you can see that she is putting in time to gain muscle.
I really never had a problem with the Laurel character but this is way too soon. I adore Arrow to death but I absolutely hate/despise/severely dislike the idea of killing Sara just to replace her with Laurel which, regardless of how they spin it, is what they did. Sarah is the black canary for me, not Laurel. I don't like this.
A boxing instructor? Wild Cat is now just a boxing instructor?
Also Laurel has previous training, it has been mentioned since season 1, but people prefer to ignore it because hating on the character is more important.
The Arrow people is known for their bad photoshop skills(just see that God aweful poster for Season 3 with them walking... Roy and Oliver looked super weird).
I like the suit(was expecting something on this direction... more grounded) and Katie will suit it well. It will be better when we see her on the move... A steady picture rarely tells the whole story.
Again with the clasps and buckles. I'm surprised they had any left over after making Roy's getup. It's also too shiny for my taste. I'm just nitpicking though.
Honestly im on the fence on this, on one hand it looks good and then on the other hand dont know what it is about but i dont like it! could be the black lipstick LOL not too sure
Once again: Laurel wearing the costume doesn't make her the best canary, it's just a costume people, my guess is she'll have a couple more bumps in the road and fails.
we dont know if there is a time jump between the mid season finale and this episode. and dont say that we do because of the flash because we dont know if there is a time jump on the show either
People need to understand that Sara was a replacement for Laurel until the right time come for her to stood up. She was going to be BC from the pilot, Why people act as if they didn't knew?
Instead of pasing the costume from Dinah to Laurel it was passed from Sara to Laurel... Either way, this was coming since the pilot. Sara's death was the most obvious thing... We didn't know when was gonna happen but i never doubted...
She looks seriously amazing. That costume is absolutely killer. Love it. What I don't love is the fact she is wearing it in episode 10! If Oliver isn't even the Green Arrow after 2.5 seasons, how can Laurel be Black Canary after 0.5 seasons the progress is way off and way too quick.
Sigh... they kept the wig. Other than that, she doesn't look half bad! She looks a bit thin though. I'm thinking photo shop. In last weeks ep Katie looked really buff, so im sure she'll fill it out more. What ep does she suit up?
Hey! It was a beautiful cleavage eventhough super impractical. I miss it. Remember that promotional photo from BoP episode. It felt the girls would come out any time.
In which case, Laurel's character gets worse. Even if she's wearing it in 3.10, it suggests that she thinks she has the skill to fight, which if she doesn't, just makes her more deluded.
LOL! the key word here is impractical, and as a woman myself, I can't imagine it was very comfortable. I mean in the fights they must have been bouncing everywhere... very uncomfortable indid.
It just mean she'll have to keep learning you all act as if Oliver, Sara and everyon else did everything perfect from the first time the put on the suit. All Im saying is she'll keep evolving and gettin better wich is totally logical.
C'mon people! It's not my job to defend Laurel, but people easily forgot the Roy disaster on Season 2 pretty quicky! It was far worse than this... We saw him playing with water, then shooting arrows like a 10 yo and then he was SUPER READY!
I'm not saying this isn't rushed and, especially, just becuase she has a suit doesn't mean she's ready... She might go out with Wildcat(so she must conceal her identity) or, as i think it will happen, Oliver will be MIA from 3x10 and 3x11 and will force everyone to go against Brick.
We always get a 2-3 month break after the midseason final so it's possible she'll have some additional time. Besides that think Laurel and Ted will depart after 3x09 and train somewhere, but that is just pure speculation.
That was my problem with it. Sure it looked sexy on her, but she was a vigilante not streetwalker, sexy shouldn't have been a priority when designing that costume... Just saying...
I wasn't sure what was bugging me about this either. I looked at these over and over again for minutes and finally realized it wasn't the outfit it's the photos.
She does *look* great. I love the costume - they've hit the jackpot on this one. As for Laurel being behind the mask... eh, guess I'll have to wait and see. Maybe I'll warm up to it.
That I have no problem with. But she started training properly between 3.05 and 3.06 and this happens in 3.10. Even after a proper amount of time for training, I'd expect her to take a while to be decent. But this is seriously too fast.
i really want laurel to become black canary and not just any black canary but the black canary from the comics which is considered to be one of the best martial artist in the world and i know that laurel will not be as good as roy or even close to oliver when it comes to fighting prowess but for her to keep up with these other guys she is gonna have to have a lot of hardcore training so therefore a time jump is needed.
Usually it's the same as the hiatus time, which is about 5-6 weeks. But even then, she only started training properly between the last episode and tonight's.
I think its the photoshop. Katie's hands are more buffer than this. Now that I have looked at it for some time I don't mind the wig but still hate the lipstick. How did you like the lipstick?
Also now I am really wishing your theory will come true and there will be a time jump during the break. I have no problem either way but the time jump will bring most people on board.
But even the black canary in the comics had to start somewhere and didn't jump to the kick ass and best martial artist in the world in one go.
It was a journey and Laurel is making her journey to be that kickass BC. People complain that she is not kick ass and complain that she is being kickass too early. Pick one side.
I wouldn't mind seeing such a version of BC. Trying and failing but still going on. Getting the shit kicked out of her. Coming back more stronger. Eventually growing more badass as the season/s progress.
It's not like Sara was a replacement for Laurel... Wait, yes she was! Sara was to Laurel what Yao Fei was to Oliver.
She was never Black Canary... The only reason this is happening is because people is confortable hating on Laurel. Like i said, Roy's introduction was one of the worst written things i've seen on television... But is not Laurel, so we'll forget about it quickly.
It's funny, because she might be my least favourite character... I knew this was coming...
Exactly what @lilah_lilah said. Comic book Black Canary got to where she is through some 15+ years of on the job training. She didn't START with much more than Ted's training either.
I think the texture, clasps and buckles are meant to provide some visual highlights, so the costumes doesn't fade in the background since Arrow is very very dark.
I'm surprised by how many people are actually saying they like the costume. I mean, aside from the usual haters, which I've come to expect in every Laurel related post, there's more people than usual... not being negative.
The suit is not that impressive and what's with all the buckles? it's not going to escape! It's way way way tooooo soon and I'm not changing my mind about that *ducks for cover*.
Roy when the hood is up on the costume looks really weird. When the hood is down somehow he looks fine. Both Roy's and Laurel's are very shiny costumes. I still like Oliver's the best. Then Nyssa's.
I didnt say anything about her being Black Canary. I dont have an issue with her becoming Black canary. And i would say Laurel isnt the Black canary yet just as much Oliver isnt the Green Arrow yet and he has been on that path for 3 years. People were having issues with Thea possibly suiting up. But Laurel suiting up that quickly is suddenly without issues?
Roy was doing that parkour before He is a guy so fighting comes more naturally The whole him picking up a bow thing, he had been training for a month or two so he had some skills and he was in that tunnel in close range shooting at Slade's guys. And now he has had about 8 months with Oliver.
If Laurel comes out fighting like Oliver and Sara it will be impossible to swallow.
Exactly what Juliana said. It's a woman thing, I was being empathic. I mean, breasts are not hard rock they are bound to gravity and movement, so all those acrobatics in the fighting scenes couldn't have been comfortable.
I like it... She used black lipstick on the comics... I would have loved some fishnets, but that would have been fanservice Jajaja My theory seems more likely every day, isn't it? xD
We don't need a time jump... She will have a rookie start, like in the comics. She won't be a vigilante machine from the start, but she needs to start somewhere.
If not we'll have Laurel been BC on the Season 5 finale and the writers must be annoyed by not having her on board for Plot A. It's needed.
I don't think being in a costume actually means anything regarding her physical abilities. She can have her ass handed to her in a costume instead of doing it in her regular awful business suits. It doesn't mean that she's going to be great at vigilantism, just that she's going to try.
Since Ray Palmer showed up, the Arrow producers have made a point of telling viewers that people with powers will be something reserved for The Flash. They even went so far as to say if Palmer ever does show any powers that it won't be on Arrow. I imagine that philosophy extends to the show's regulars (like Laurel) as well.
Because just because she suits up doesn't mean she is ready... She will have a rookie start, even the comic book version wasn't a machine at the begining.
If she goes as a sidekick to Wildcat she needs some way to conceal her identity. We don't have enough information to make such a statement... But making one that quickly is suddenly without issues?
The costume is cool (reminds me of Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman) and I like the background of the picture. One thing I don't like is the black lipstick but oh well.
I do think it's too early. I don't mind Laurel stepping out and beating up some low-level thugs as part of her process of becoming BC, but it seems to me that she shouldn't suit up until she's had a significant amount of training and really assumed the vigilante role. I would've saved her first outing in the BC costume for the S3 finale (I know fans are impatient and want to see her take on the mantle already, but it's not like the show is having trouble in the ratings and has to rush to give people what they want).
Now that i look at it again you are right the background for me is too dark maybe if she was on a rooftoop with moonlight behind her, something to change the contrast from dark outfit to dark background!
Laurel (Katie Cassidy) is well on her way to becoming Black Canary now that she's in training. How long of a journey is that going to be for her? It depends on how you define "journey." What Laurel is going to discover is that being a hero is more than wearing a mask and that wearing a mask and costume does not a hero make. It's not going to be an easy road for Laurel no matter how quickly she suits up.
Not sure how I feel about the lipstick. I would've liked a very deep burgundy better, but maybe they ruled that out because they put dark lipstick on her on nomal bases.
I don't like the lipstick either. Maybe the speculations will come true and there will be a time jump of few months during the break. Missed you here Alex.. I thought you gave up on Arrow. How cool was yesterdays AoS.
For me it is too soon. It might have to do with them showing Sara dying every single week that leaves a bad taste for me. I think i would have less an issue if Sara was helping Laurel become the hero/vigilante she wants to be. But you know what is hilarious? A vigilante that uses fingerless gloves. A vigilante that is a D.A on top of all. But hey leaving fingerprints all over is fun i guess.
I like her most with earth tones and lighter lip colours. But to be fair with the mask, wig and dark lipstick her identity will be the best concealed one on the show.
I'm just wondering how long it takes to put everything on with so many buckles and straps. Hopefully there will be a time jump between the midseason finale and this. Although I assume that she'll try to do stuff and fail and then try again as opposed to kicking butt immediately?
I don't like any kind of dark lip colours on KC. She looks a bit harsh with it. She looks beautiful with lighter tones. That's one thing I liked about Sara. She always had subtle make up and colours on her.
LOL! It was inevitable, she was bound to become BC eventually and I really don't want to watch Laurel punching a bag and yelling that she's angry for another fifteen episodes.
Question: Like Oliver only being known as the Arrow ( previously The Vigilante ) now but NOT Green Arrow yet wasn't Sara simply referred to as 'Canary' ... leaving The 'Black' Canary Mantle open for Laurel to adopt as her own ?
at least Sara had gloves on. Thinking about the reason why she suits up might have something to do with Quentin, but i would hate that because that would mean she is still hiding the truth from him.
Also think how difficult it must have been to tie that corset every time. I remember SA posted a video in which I don't remember DR or SA says they like the canary costume to CL. And she replies is it because of the aesthetics? LOL
I actually like the wig and harsh, black lipstick because it's hard for me to see Katie in the picture, despite knowing it's her, so it's a good disguise. I kinda like the harsh look for Black Canary, they can always give Laurel lighter, more earth tones when she's not in costume.
Exactly, just because she's wearing a costume and concealing her identity, doesn't mean she's gonna beat Malcolm/Ra's/Oliver any time soon. If she's going after lower level criminals, she needs to conceal her identity and costume up, no matter what her skill set is at the moment. Personally I'd love to see her get in on the action, on a smaller scale, while also continuing her training and progressing/evolving along the way.
It's non sense to have cleavage in a female or male costume. It puts an important area without any defense. "Here, have an area close to your heart with no armor".
Also boobs jumping around without any support are not practical, specially for fighting.
I agree! They don't need to sexualise yet another female character on the show or it would be seriously sexist to exploit female attributes so guys can drool over somebody's boobs. If that's the case, maybe Oliver should wear crotch-less pants and give viewers something to stare at.
They didn't have to kill Sara in order to pass on the mantle to Laurel, though. She could've stayed away with the LoA, thus retaining the possibility of bringing her back someday (and saving the Lance family the horrible pain of losing her again - I absolutely dread Quentin finding out). Dinah Drake Lance didn't die in the comics in order to facilitate Dinah Laurel Lance becoming BC.
Whoever had the theory of people believe Oliver to be dead after "The Climb"'s events and people like Laurel and possibly Ted suiting up to go up against Brick and his gang trying to take over Starling City…I think you could be right.
I think whenever it is Laurel puts on a costume be it in episode 10 or season 5 finale some people will be dissatisfied. Some will feel it is early now and if they dealy it some will feel it is late. She is a controversial character who evokes lot of emotion from audience. They just have to power through and lets hope people's opinion changes towards her.
I'm glad they are finally turning her into the character she is supposed to be. The haters are going to complain about everything but they are just mad that Laurel will start kicking ass and won't be "weak" or "useless". The haters will still find something else to complain. Also I love how nobody cared when Roy became very skilled in a very short time but Laurel that has been training with WildCat and it's probably going to go after low criminals is considered "ridiculous".
If they didn't kill Sara, Laurel wouldn't had a reason to become a vigilante... It would have been out of chaarcter, since she was really happy helping Team Arrow as a lawyer.
I think Quentin will know the truth in todays episode. MG in TVline interview said something happens this episode which fans have been wanting since episode 1. That could be Quentin knowing the truth.
Why a significant amount of time? Why can't she put on a costume and still try to do something good even with an amount of boxing/training lessons and previous self-defensive lessons. Also, and I don't know how many times one can really point this out, but Laurel was blindsided by emotion when she tried to beat up that abusive boyfriend. We've seen in the past from both Ollie and Sara how emotions can ruin one's mind in a fight.
Not right away no, but Dinah Drake Lance had terminal cancer from her last battle as Black Canary.
And sadly, killing Sara was a neccecity to make the transfer "stick". There's enough "Bring Sara back, she's the real Canary" already. A large group of fans would NEVER accept Laurel in the role if Sara was still among the living.
I think she looks great and I can't wait to see her in action. I almost wish they would lighten KC's hair though and ditch the wig. I know it's part of the costume though.
Longbow Hunters is seriously one of the darkest stories ever told in mainstream DC Universe. But yeah, the injuries she got there affected her for a LONG time.
Wild Cat is not just a boxing instructor. He is the trainer of BC.
If you have no idea about Green Arrow or Black Canary, or if you are not even following the Arrow story you shouldn't be posting if something is too soon or not, or even if someone is more apt at fighting than someone else's.
And just because it happens this season it does not mean that they will jump into her kicking everyone's ass. They have said in interviews that it will be a journey for her, that it will not always go her way and that she will learn along the way what being a vigilante is.
I like the costume a lot, minus the black lipstick. So well done, costume department!
As far as Laurel being Black Canary, yes, it's probably too soon. And let's put the question of how long she trained aside. It's too soon for the character and too soon for the audience. For Laurel, even if she's ready physically - and everyone can debate that to their heart's content, I'm not touching it - I don't think she's really where she needs to be mentally and emotionally to be a hero. Right now she's just angry, which Oliver was too at the beginning, but he was also trying to achieve justice in his own twisted way. Laurel may want to help people, and I do think she does, but mostly she's just sad and pissed, and that Laurel is not ready to be the Canary in my opinion. Get out in the field maybe, but that costume represents something, especially since Sara's death, and it's something I don't think Laurel is ready for.
As far as the audience goes, a sizable portion of us are not the biggest Laurel fans; even more of us love Sara and still miss her on the show. Making Laurel into the Canary now is just shoving a less loved character into the shoes of a pretty well loved character when everybody is still, for lack of a better term, in mourning. Some people are going to happy about it, and that's great, but for everyone else, they should have given us more time to adjust, and given more time to getting us to like Laurel again. It was always going to happen, but it didn't have to happen this fast. Personally, I love Katie Cassidy; she's actually one of the reasons I started watching the show, because Ruby! But even I am on weak terms at best with Laurel's character these days.
That being said, no, I'm not hating on Laurel or whatever. And I would love to be wrong. I would be so excited if this turned out to be a great move and Laurel becoming the Canary made her awesome and everything got so much better. I just don't have a lot of faith that that's going to happen right now. But seriously, I would love to be wrong this time. Please writers, prove me wrong.
I don't think it should be dragged on too long since Arrow isn't likely to last longer than 7 years partly due to the ages of the actors kind of like Buffy. Smallville had the advantage of younger actors.
I think she'd look much better in lighter colours, the makeup they put on her makes her look so much older and hardens her face. But I think in the comics BC wears black lipstick, so maybe that's why., and between the lipstick, the wig and mask she will be unrecognisable so that's that,
It's sad when people don't realize this and just say "How can she be Black Canary so quickly?" without realizing that the guys behind Arrow won't hastily make Laurel just some fancy hero like Ollie or Roy.
Personally, I preferred the idea of exploring the corruption in Star(ling) City again - Team Arrow's success in cleaning up the streets was never going to last - and having Laurel realize that her ability to make things better as part of the D.A.'s office is limited, and she has to step out as a vigilante to help the city. Being motivated by the death of a loved one is a cliche that's been done way too many times, not to mention its predictability, and I prefer it when the show subverts tropes - like when they DIDN'T have Malcolm die and Tommy become the new Dark Archer to avenge him.
Also, they didn't really spend a whole lot of time building up the relationship between the sisters. If we had seen more of Laurel being inspired by Sara, it would have more substance when she decided to follow in Sara's footsteps.
I thinks it's about Laurel becoming Black Canary... I understood as for the pilot. Maybe Ted will suit up and Laurel will tag with him for the first time...
People who are biased against Laurel and hate her irrationally, I have no interest in conversing with or trying to convince them of something they'll never accept. We all have our biases, we all like or dislike characters, it's fine, but people nitpick with Laurel way too much and complain about everything she says/does. It's annoying, but it is what it is, no point in bashing my head against a wall. It's the rational people who are hesitant about the story line that I'm more interested in talking to. People can fast forward her scenes if they want to, if they can't keep an open mind enough for the character and story line, there's no changing their minds. I'm loving her story line, that's all I really care about.
Let me say this. I find it amusing the sheer volume of comments that fly back and forth on this topic repeatedly. It's amazing to observe.
Let me also wade in by saying that for those that persist on using the "training time" argument to scoff at Laurel becoming Black Canary too early: its an ineffective argument, and this is why.
I personally know very little about what it takes to train in the martial arts and the level of rigor and physical and mental hardship that a person has to endure. I do know that it is significant. People are known to train for years from childhood to adulthood dedicating themselves to various disciplines. This is how it is in the real world. By this measure those that roll their eyes at Laurel becoming Black Canary so soon aren't wrong.
But by this same measure neither Sara nor Oliver should also be able to fight and shoot and jump and run as well as they do: because the five years that they would have trained would also not be enough to make them master assassins and super heroes.
What I'm saying is that the training time is implausible for everyone. So by that reckoning it doesn't make it invalid that Laurel should have some training and go out in costume to see what she can do.
I really wish those people who have made up their mind about never liking Laurel (I am not saying they don't have their valid reasons) would just ignore her spoilers and ignore her story line altogther. Just let it happen. This season is the best I have liked yet of Laurel. Still I have issues with the character. I dislike the fact that they jumped right into anger mode for Laurel after Sara's death. Some grieving would have been nice. Also her character is still confrontational and harsh with almost all my favorite characters. Yet I look forward to her becoming BC and at least next season for once for her to be happy if not content with her life. Also I want Oliver and Laurel's bickering to stop asap.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
No. No, no, no. Just no.
ReplyDeleteShe looks badass! I'm so excited to see her in action and her Black Canary costume looks great.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, batter down the hatches everyone....comment flood incoming!
ReplyDeleteI just hope she can do justice to the character!
ReplyDeleteHOLY CANARIES, BATMAN!
ReplyDeleteI guess this is the slow burn Guggentroll was talking about.
ReplyDeleteOMFG YESSSS THANK GODD
ReplyDeleteI like it a lot! So much better than Sara's, I'm so glad they've changed it!
ReplyDeleteYes. Yes, yes, yes. Just yes.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking forward to Katie Cassidy becoming Black Canary since Arrow started. She totally kicked ass as Ruby on Supernatural so I have no doubt that she'll do so as Black Canary. It's about time she was given something good to work with on the show because up until now, Laurel kinda sucked.
ReplyDeleteWay too soon.
ReplyDeleteA few boxing lessons and she's ready to be Black Canary. Pfft.
ReplyDeleteOh my....if a picture of her stunt double caused over 400 comments, I can't imagine how many this one will....
ReplyDeleteYeah, no thank you.
ReplyDeleteYEAH, This is Amazing. i love her black lipstick.
ReplyDeleteShe looks good. The only time i enjoyed Laurel in seasons 1 and 2 was when she kicked some ass. Its time for her to kick some ass!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteNow let the hate begin!
ReplyDeleteHate the lipstick and wig. Good costume and mask. She still looks super thin though. That might be the photo.
ReplyDeleteShe has been training, in the preview pictures for next episode you can see her arms and back, muscles everywhere. And even in pictures from previous episodes you can see that she is putting in time to gain muscle.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness they didn't keep that god awful cleavage!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have no idea when she will start being BC. Also Roy has a few training lessons before being Arsenal.
ReplyDeleteOh I know that. I have seen pictures. She had put on lot of muscles. I respect her for that. It's just in this picture she looks very thin.
ReplyDeleteIt will be this season, we know that much. Roy had the whole Mirakuru phase plus he was trained by Oliver, not a boxing instructor.
ReplyDeleteI really never had a problem with the Laurel character but this is way too soon. I adore Arrow to death but I absolutely hate/despise/severely dislike the idea of killing Sara just to replace her with Laurel which, regardless of how they spin it, is what they did. Sarah is the black canary for me, not Laurel. I don't like this.
ReplyDeleteA boxing instructor? Wild Cat is now just a boxing instructor?
ReplyDeleteAlso Laurel has previous training, it has been mentioned since season 1, but people prefer to ignore it because hating on the character is more important.
Yeah but he not just a boxing instructor he also is Wildcat
ReplyDeleteThe Arrow people is known for their bad photoshop skills(just see that God aweful poster for Season 3 with them walking... Roy and Oliver looked super weird).
ReplyDeleteI like the suit(was expecting something on this direction... more grounded) and Katie will suit it well. It will be better when we see her on the move... A steady picture rarely tells the whole story.
Looking forward to this very, very much! :D
Two different women have always appeared in the role, the show just did it sister to sister instead of mother to daughter.
ReplyDeleteBut Sarah was never the BC in any way for Arrow. It was always Laurel, since the start of Arrow.
ReplyDelete^This.
ReplyDeleteIf she had previous training, then that guy would've have beaten her into a pulp.
ReplyDeleteI don't hate her, I just think they are making her BC way too fast.
Again with the clasps and buckles. I'm surprised they had any left over after making Roy's getup. It's also too shiny for my taste. I'm just nitpicking though.
ReplyDeleteYet, your don't know the time frame to say that it is "way too fast".
ReplyDeleteJust updated with extra info - this is credited on the CW's press site as being from 3.10.
ReplyDeleteTell me about it! This is still very sexy but a lot classier!
ReplyDeleteHalf a season is way too fast for me
ReplyDeleteThat was the worst.
ReplyDeleteAre you freaking kidding me, she is BC in five episodes?
ReplyDeleteHonestly im on the fence on this, on one hand it looks good and then on the other hand dont know what it is about but i dont like it! could be the black lipstick LOL not too sure
ReplyDeleteAre the kidding? She turns in Black Canary in 7 episodes?
ReplyDeleteOnce again: Laurel wearing the costume doesn't make her the best canary, it's just a costume people, my guess is she'll have a couple more bumps in the road and fails.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT
ReplyDeletewe dont know if there is a time jump between the mid season finale and this episode. and dont say that we do because of the flash because we dont know if there is a time jump on the show either
ReplyDeleteHoly S*IT! She look awesome! Can't wait!
ReplyDelete5 episodes later. We know the time frame now.
ReplyDeletePeople need to understand that Sara was a replacement for Laurel until the right time come for her to stood up. She was going to be BC from the pilot, Why people act as if they didn't knew?
ReplyDeleteInstead of pasing the costume from Dinah to Laurel it was passed from Sara to Laurel... Either way, this was coming since the pilot. Sara's death was the most obvious thing... We didn't know when was gonna happen but i never doubted...
She looks good. And the black suit is even better than Sara's. Mask and wig both look great. The black lipstick is a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteShe looks seriously amazing. That costume is absolutely killer. Love it. What I don't love is the fact she is wearing it in episode 10! If Oliver isn't even the Green Arrow after 2.5 seasons, how can Laurel be Black Canary after 0.5 seasons the progress is way off and way too quick.
ReplyDeleteSigh... they kept the wig. Other than that, she doesn't look half bad! She looks a bit thin though. I'm thinking photo shop. In last weeks ep Katie looked really buff, so im sure she'll fill it out more. What ep does she suit up?
ReplyDeleteI think is the size... IGN has a bigger picture and it doesn't look thin like this one... Check it out.
ReplyDeleteOh the hate...the hate... -.-
ReplyDeleteHey! It was a beautiful cleavage eventhough super impractical. I miss it. Remember that promotional photo from BoP episode. It felt the girls would come out any time.
ReplyDeleteExactly. This is all happening way too quickly. 7 episodes? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteI second this.
ReplyDeleteFly like a Bird ( of Prey ) Laurel !
( I LOVE you too Ms. Smock )
In which case, Laurel's character gets worse. Even if she's wearing it in 3.10, it suggests that she thinks she has the skill to fight, which if she doesn't, just makes her more deluded.
ReplyDeleteReport is if there is one it is minimal as in no more than a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteHonestly it looks a bit fan-made?
ReplyDeleteBut Laurel looks good. Love the police stick it suits her.
Nope, official.
ReplyDeleteI really hope she gets some powers like the Black Canary does in the actual comic. Enough with the bow and arrow BS.
ReplyDeleteumm i don't hate Katie, but seriously this is bad. I mean she looks........ bad! at least for me!
ReplyDeleteLOL! the key word here is impractical, and as a woman myself, I can't imagine it was very comfortable. I mean in the fights they must have been bouncing everywhere... very uncomfortable indid.
ReplyDeleteYeah I like the the nightstick too!
ReplyDelete7. More like 4. Last episode she said she hasn't been taking training serious. That was episode 5. So 6, 7, 8, and 9.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was being generous.
ReplyDeleteIt isnt so much that Laurel is suiting up its the speed with which she is suiting up.
ReplyDeleteClassier, and much more practical and comfortable!
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't love a beautiful cleavage? But Sara's dress really irked me. Ok, just saw @Victoria Llanos's comment - what she says.
ReplyDeleteIt just mean she'll have to keep learning you all act as if Oliver, Sara and everyon else did everything perfect from the first time the put on the suit. All Im saying is she'll keep evolving and gettin better wich is totally logical.
ReplyDeleteHuh. She actually looks good. I am looking forward to this as long as she doesn't turn to a badass immediately .
ReplyDeleteC'mon people! It's not my job to defend Laurel, but people easily forgot the Roy disaster on Season 2 pretty quicky! It was far worse than this... We saw him playing with water, then shooting arrows like a 10 yo and then he was SUPER READY!
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying this isn't rushed and, especially, just becuase she has a suit doesn't mean she's ready...
ReplyDeletea show in its first season doing a time jump?
ReplyDeleteMe too. If the "flash-bang" is like the Smallville meteor shower she could get infected. Apparently her mother lives in Central City.
ReplyDeleteIts just feels too much like she is just taking up Saras identity. Which is hilarious how she accused Sara of stealing her life.
ReplyDeleteThat was my problem with it. Sure it looked sexy on her, but she was a vigilante not streetwalker, sexy shouldn't have been a priority when designing that costume... Just saying...
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure what was bugging me about this either. I looked at these over and over again for minutes and finally realized it wasn't the outfit it's the photos.
ReplyDeleteShe does *look* great. I love the costume - they've hit the jackpot on this one. As for Laurel being behind the mask... eh, guess I'll have to wait and see. Maybe I'll warm up to it.
ReplyDeleteThat I have no problem with. But she started training properly between 3.05 and 3.06 and this happens in 3.10. Even after a proper amount of time for training, I'd expect her to take a while to be decent. But this is seriously too fast.
ReplyDeleteWhat have you got against cleavages?
ReplyDeletei really want laurel to become black canary and not just any black canary but the black canary from the comics which is considered to be one of the best martial artist in the world and i know that laurel will not be as good as roy or even close to oliver when it comes to fighting prowess but for her to keep up with these other guys she is gonna have to have a lot of hardcore training so therefore a time jump is needed.
ReplyDeleteYou can't just say that and not provide a link for us lazy slobs. ;) :)
ReplyDeleteI kind of like the wig... Katie's always looked better blonder IMO.
ReplyDeleteUsually it's the same as the hiatus time, which is about 5-6 weeks. But even then, she only started training properly between the last episode and tonight's.
ReplyDeleteNoone is hating ....yet, (just expressing different opinions)...and i hope noone will be trolling too!
ReplyDeleteI think its the photoshop. Katie's hands are more buffer than this. Now that I have looked at it for some time I don't mind the wig but still hate the lipstick. How did you like the lipstick?
ReplyDeleteAlso now I am really wishing your theory will come true and there will be a time jump during the break. I have no problem either way but the time jump will bring most people on board.
Roy's dress makes me laugh each time I see him suited up. As of now, Katie looks good in the pics, let's see how it translates to on the screen.
ReplyDeleteBut even the black canary in the comics had to start somewhere and didn't jump to the kick ass and best martial artist in the world in one go.
ReplyDeleteIt was a journey and Laurel is making her journey to be that kickass BC. People complain that she is not kick ass and complain that she is being kickass too early. Pick one side.
Ruby flashbacks! It's always been Laurel I've had a problem with NOT Katie. I loved her on SPN and Melrose Place.
ReplyDeleteI love the lipstick! The wig is not awful, but it's unacessary IMO.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Laurel's outfit seems restrictive (much like Roy's) at least it looks a little easier to get in and out of.
ReplyDeleteim on the side that is going to give her a chance to show what she is got before i start complaining or even hating the character.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind seeing such a version of BC. Trying and failing but still going on. Getting the shit kicked out of her. Coming back more stronger. Eventually growing more badass as the season/s progress.
ReplyDeleteIt's not like Sara was a replacement for Laurel... Wait, yes she was! Sara was to Laurel what Yao Fei was to Oliver.
ReplyDeleteShe was never Black Canary...
ReplyDeleteI think she looks GORGEOUS! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI think that would really make her stand her out from Sara. But I don't think Arrow guys would go there at least not right now.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ign.com/articles/2014/11/12/arrow-first-photos-of-laurel-lance-katie-cassidy-as-black-canary
ReplyDeleteI think the texture, clasps and buckles are meant to provide some visual highlights, so the costumes doesn't fade in the background since Arrow is very very dark.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised by how many people are actually saying they like the costume. I mean, aside from the usual haters, which I've come to expect in every Laurel related post, there's more people than usual... not being negative.
ReplyDeletelooking good! Stay strong, Cassidy, you are a good actress, you can do it. Don't f&ck this up, Arrow writers!
ReplyDeleteI don't see her being able to take down Oliver or Merlyn but common Star city thieves and rapists and maybe even Thea should be easy pray for her.
ReplyDeleteI get that. I just wish they'd find a way to make that happen that would differ more from what Roy wears.
ReplyDeleteThe suit is not that impressive and what's with all the buckles? it's not going to escape! It's way way way tooooo soon and I'm not changing my mind about that *ducks for cover*.
ReplyDeleteStreet fighting with a push-up bra must be awful. It's merely solidarity!
ReplyDeleteRoy when the hood is up on the costume looks really weird. When the hood is down somehow he looks fine. Both Roy's and Laurel's are very shiny costumes. I still like Oliver's the best. Then Nyssa's.
ReplyDeleteI didnt say anything about her being Black Canary.
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
ReplyDeleteAlso a few things.
ReplyDeleteRoy was doing that parkour before
He is a guy so fighting comes more naturally
The whole him picking up a bow thing, he had been training for a month or two so he had some skills and he was in that tunnel in close range shooting at Slade's guys.
And now he has had about 8 months with Oliver.
If Laurel comes out fighting like Oliver and Sara it will be impossible to swallow.
Nyssa's costume is the BEST. Rich dark hues. And Katrina Law is he one wearing it. *hubba hubba*
ReplyDeleteYes. That whole "she had training"argument became invalid when she stuck up on that woman beater with a bat and got her ass handed to her.
ReplyDelete"Seriously she's just photoshopped !!!" :p
ReplyDeletereally, for now I have no jugement , I shall wait and see
Exactly what Juliana said. It's a woman thing, I was being empathic. I mean, breasts are not hard rock they are bound to gravity and movement, so all those acrobatics in the fighting scenes couldn't have been comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI like it... She used black lipstick on the comics... I would have loved some fishnets, but that would have been fanservice Jajaja My theory seems more likely every day, isn't it? xD
ReplyDeleteWe don't need a time jump...
ReplyDeleteDon't just say it's a woman thing. I am a male and I found it completely impractical. Just because I can't empathize doesn't mean I can't imagine.
ReplyDeleteimagine the discomfort is what I mean ;) :)
No. I changed my mind. Like the wig now. Still don't like the lipstick.
ReplyDeleteSince Ray Palmer showed up, the Arrow producers have made a point of telling viewers that people with powers will be something reserved for The Flash. They even went so far as to say if Palmer ever does show any powers that it won't be on Arrow. I imagine that philosophy extends to the show's regulars (like Laurel) as well.
ReplyDeleteBecause just because she suits up doesn't mean she is ready... She will have a rookie start, even the comic book version wasn't a machine at the begining.
ReplyDeleteIf she goes as a sidekick to Wildcat she needs some way to conceal her identity. We don't have enough information to make such a statement... But making one that quickly is suddenly without issues?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzSUo8iPp4M
ReplyDeleteThank you! Someone who isn't jumping to conclusions! I love you! Wanna marry me?
ReplyDeleteStrangely though, I like this black lipstick instead of the deep red that Laurel normally sports. That, I find highly distracting.
ReplyDeleteSo doing parkout before is enough to fight, but having actual training is not.
ReplyDelete" I love you! Wanna marry me?"
ReplyDeleteWell, that escalated quickly. ;) :)
The costume is cool (reminds me of Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman) and I like the background of the picture. One thing I don't like is the black lipstick but oh well.
ReplyDeleteI do think it's too early.
ReplyDeleteSorry, didn't mean to be rude, It's just most men only consider the aesthetics, not the reality ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe red and black combination with sexy Katrina Law and that veil. She is my lady crush after Felicity.
ReplyDeleteThat is a real shame!
ReplyDeleteI think that would be a great direction for the show!!!
ReplyDeleteMarch Guggenheim interview with EOnline:
ReplyDeleteLaurel (Katie Cassidy) is well on her way to becoming Black Canary now that she's in training. How long of a journey is that going to be for her?
It depends on how you define "journey." What Laurel is going to discover is that being a hero is more than wearing a mask and that wearing a mask and costume does not a hero make. It's not going to be an easy road for Laurel no matter how quickly she suits up.
Uff!! The veil is the killer.
ReplyDeleteI will marry you... After I get a divorce from my husband. Will you give me comics to read?
ReplyDeleteNot sure how I feel about the lipstick. I would've liked a very deep burgundy better, but maybe they ruled that out because they put dark lipstick on her on nomal bases.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the lipstick either. Maybe the speculations will come true and there will be a time jump of few months during the break. Missed you here Alex.. I thought you gave up on Arrow. How cool was yesterdays AoS.
ReplyDeleteWhat can i say? I'm a romantic when it comes to internet's comment sections! Jajajaja
ReplyDeleteAs awesome as that would be, they've said time and time again that they want to keep Arrow more down to earth, so I highly doubt it.
ReplyDeleteThe posing and digitally retouching the photos aren't helping either.
ReplyDeleteDude, get your own marriage proposals!
ReplyDeleteFor me it is too soon. It might have to do with them showing Sara dying every single week that leaves a bad taste for me. I think i would have less an issue if Sara was helping Laurel become the hero/vigilante she wants to be.
ReplyDeleteBut you know what is hilarious? A vigilante that uses fingerless gloves. A vigilante that is a D.A on top of all. But hey leaving fingerprints all over is fun i guess.
I like her most with earth tones and lighter lip colours. But to be fair with the mask, wig and dark lipstick her identity will be the best concealed one on the show.
ReplyDeletetrue, I expected worse, not saying that there's no hate but at this point some (!) just some, are only hating because it's cool to hate her these days
ReplyDeleteWoa! That's... You might have a point there... Talking about rookie starts; she will be on jail after the first night xD
ReplyDeleteI'm just wondering how long it takes to put everything on with so many buckles and straps. Hopefully there will be a time jump between the midseason finale and this. Although I assume that she'll try to do stuff and fail and then try again as opposed to kicking butt immediately?
ReplyDeleteI don't like any kind of dark lip colours on KC. She looks a bit harsh with it. She looks beautiful with lighter tones. That's one thing I liked about Sara. She always had subtle make up and colours on her.
ReplyDeleteYESSSSSSSSSSS, can't wait for Laurel as Black Canary, she looks great and she's gonna slay.
ReplyDeleteLOL!
ReplyDeleteIt was inevitable, she was bound to become BC eventually and I really don't want to watch Laurel punching a bag and yelling that she's angry for another fifteen episodes.
Question: Like Oliver only being known as the Arrow ( previously The Vigilante ) now but NOT Green Arrow yet wasn't Sara simply referred to as 'Canary' ... leaving The 'Black' Canary Mantle open for Laurel to adopt as her own ?
ReplyDeleteat least Sara had gloves on. Thinking about the reason why she suits up might have something to do with Quentin, but i would hate that because that would mean she is still hiding the truth from him.
ReplyDeleteThe "Black" also goes very well with her grief/revenge motivation
ReplyDeleteAlso think how difficult it must have been to tie that corset every time. I remember SA posted a video in which I don't remember DR or SA says they like the canary costume to CL. And she replies is it because of the aesthetics? LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to hate on her because she doesn't look bad but I prefer Caity/Sara's costume. :) The cleavage was interesting, lol.
ReplyDeleteI would also prefer it if she completely dropped the dark colors.
ReplyDeleteThe main reason they killed Sara "the Canary" was so that Laurel could become "Black" Canary in honour of her sister.
ReplyDeleteI actually like the wig and harsh, black lipstick because it's hard for me to see Katie in the picture, despite knowing it's her, so it's a good disguise. I kinda like the harsh look for Black Canary, they can always give Laurel lighter, more earth tones when she's not in costume.
ReplyDeletePeople don't realize that in the comics she fails too. In Longbow Hunters she gets kidnapped and stuff which is really bad.
ReplyDeleteMale. So, the best man?
ReplyDeleteExactly, just because she's wearing a costume and concealing her identity, doesn't mean she's gonna beat Malcolm/Ra's/Oliver any time soon. If she's going after lower level criminals, she needs to conceal her identity and costume up, no matter what her skill set is at the moment. Personally I'd love to see her get in on the action, on a smaller scale, while also continuing her training and progressing/evolving along the way.
ReplyDeleteIt's non sense to have cleavage in a female or male costume. It puts an important area without any defense. "Here, have an area close to your heart with no armor".
ReplyDeleteAlso boobs jumping around without any support are not practical, specially for fighting.
Exactly that's probably what they are doing at this point. There's a progression
ReplyDeleteI agree! They don't need to sexualise yet another female character on the show or it would be seriously sexist to exploit female attributes so guys can drool over somebody's boobs. If that's the case, maybe Oliver should wear crotch-less pants and give viewers something to stare at.
ReplyDeleteThey didn't have to kill Sara in order to pass on the mantle to Laurel, though.
ReplyDeleteI saw this on Tumblr and I had to share it, it was too good lol
ReplyDelete"how to become the black canary" by laurel lance
step one:acquire ur dead sister's ~magical~ leather jacket
step two:take like 5 boxing classes
step three:boom. ur a superhero now.
Whoever had the theory of people believe Oliver to be dead after "The Climb"'s events and people like Laurel and possibly Ted suiting up to go up against Brick and his gang trying to take over Starling City…I think you could be right.
ReplyDeleteI think whenever it is Laurel puts on a costume be it in episode 10 or season 5 finale some people will be dissatisfied. Some will feel it is early now and if they dealy it some will feel it is late. She is a controversial character who evokes lot of emotion from audience. They just have to power through and lets hope people's opinion changes towards her.
ReplyDeleteBest man, it is!
ReplyDeleteSooo... What's your opinion on cakes, buddy? xD
PS: This whole thing is getting way to weird... even by my own crazy standards xD
I'm glad they are finally turning her into the character she is supposed to be. The haters are going to complain about everything but they are just mad that Laurel will start kicking ass and won't be "weak" or "useless". The haters will still find something else to complain.
ReplyDeleteAlso I love how nobody cared when Roy became very skilled in a very short time but Laurel that has been training with WildCat and it's probably going to go after low criminals is considered "ridiculous".
If they didn't kill Sara, Laurel wouldn't had a reason to become a vigilante... It would have been out of chaarcter, since she was really happy helping Team Arrow as a lawyer.
ReplyDeleteI think Quentin will know the truth in todays episode. MG in TVline interview said something happens this episode which fans have been wanting since episode 1. That could be Quentin knowing the truth.
ReplyDeleteWhy a significant amount of time? Why can't she put on a costume and still try to do something good even with an amount of boxing/training lessons and previous self-defensive lessons. Also, and I don't know how many times one can really point this out, but Laurel was blindsided by emotion when she tried to beat up that abusive boyfriend. We've seen in the past from both Ollie and Sara how emotions can ruin one's mind in a fight.
ReplyDeleteooh. The gloves. Who knows by the time costume debuts on screen they might add gloves to it.
ReplyDeleteNot right away no, but Dinah Drake Lance had terminal cancer from her last battle as Black Canary.
ReplyDeleteAnd sadly, killing Sara was a neccecity to make the transfer "stick". There's enough "Bring Sara back, she's the real Canary" already. A large group of fans would NEVER accept Laurel in the role if Sara was still among the living.
I know that. but it was visually pleasing xD.
ReplyDeleteI dont know that description for 3x09 doesnt inspire much faith that he knows the truth.
ReplyDeletePlease I am in love with Nicolas... He knows comics.. *heart eyes*
ReplyDeleteI think she looks great and I can't wait to see her in action. I almost wish they would lighten KC's hair though and ditch the wig. I know it's part of the costume though.
ReplyDeleteLol .... Definitely staring or staring with shock :p
ReplyDeleteLongbow Hunters is seriously one of the darkest stories ever told in mainstream DC Universe. But yeah, the injuries she got there affected her for a LONG time.
ReplyDeleteWild Cat is not just a boxing instructor. He is the trainer of BC.
ReplyDeleteIf you have no idea about Green Arrow or Black Canary, or if you are not even following the Arrow story you shouldn't be posting if something is too soon or not, or even if someone is more apt at fighting than someone else's.
And just because it happens this season it does not mean that they will jump into her kicking everyone's ass. They have said in interviews that it will be a journey for her, that it will not always go her way and that she will learn along the way what being a vigilante is.
Fully trained Sara as Black Canary ---> 'I can handle myself sometimes' Laurel in the Black Canary. Yeah, that really doesn't work for me.
ReplyDeleteI like the costume a lot, minus the black lipstick. So well done, costume department!
ReplyDeleteAs far as Laurel being Black Canary, yes, it's probably too soon.
And nothing anyone says will change their opinions. So let them be. Unless they come picking a fight... Then ...boom
ReplyDeleteFrom a new interview @ E!Online
ReplyDeleteLaurel (Katie Cassidy) is well on her way to becoming Black Canary now that she's in training. How long of a journey is that going to be for her?
It depends on how you define "journey." What Laurel is going to discover is that being a hero is more than wearing a mask and that wearing a mask and costume does not a hero make. It's not going to be an easy road for Laurel no matter how quickly she suits up.
I don't think it should be dragged on too long since Arrow isn't likely to last longer than 7 years partly due to the ages of the actors kind of like Buffy. Smallville had the advantage of younger actors.
ReplyDeleteI think she'd look much better in lighter colours, the makeup they put on her makes her look so much older and hardens her face. But I think in the comics BC wears black lipstick, so maybe that's why., and between the lipstick, the wig and mask she will be unrecognisable so that's that,
ReplyDeleteUnless MG was misquoted that was episode 1 of season 1. And I can't figure out what the fans have been clamoring for since the series premiere...
ReplyDeleteOliver with a goatee? Nope, I got nothing...
It's sad when people don't realize this and just say "How can she be Black Canary so quickly?" without realizing that the guys behind Arrow won't hastily make Laurel just some fancy hero like Ollie or Roy.
ReplyDeleteI thought the same , but on Instragram they highlighted the picture and it's better IMO http://instagram.com/p/vT829exoMn/
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't work for you because you don't like the idea of someone suiting up and not being a great hero right off the bat?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I preferred the idea of exploring the corruption in Star(ling) City again - Team Arrow's success in cleaning up the streets was never going to last - and having Laurel realize that her ability to make things better as part of the D.A.'s office is limited, and she has to step out as a vigilante to help the city. Being motivated by the death of a loved one is a cliche that's been done way too many times, not to mention its predictability, and I prefer it when the show subverts tropes - like when they DIDN'T have Malcolm die and Tommy become the new Dark Archer to avenge him.
ReplyDeleteAlso, they didn't really spend a whole lot of time building up the relationship between the sisters.
ReplyDeleteI'm very intrigued by that...
I just read Alex Kingston is coming to Starling in Episode 9 at greenarrowtv.com. So you maybe right. Quentin wont know at least till episode 09.
ReplyDeleteLMAO! Well, this is going in an interesting direction... Jajajaja This whole conversation with you, Juliana and DebraFan is pure gold xD
ReplyDeleteThat was @Nicolás Festa's theory and it's looking very very likely. He might have bugged the writer's room.
ReplyDeleteNice. The grittier style is better than the overly glossy studio shots.
ReplyDeletePeople who are biased against Laurel and hate her irrationally, I have no interest in conversing with or trying to convince them of something they'll never accept.
ReplyDeleteThey are going to change Oliver's costume this Season... At least that's what Amell said. I would love one without sleeves.
ReplyDeleteLet me say this. I find it amusing the sheer volume of comments that fly back and forth on this topic repeatedly. It's amazing to observe.
ReplyDeleteLet me also wade in by saying that for those that persist on using the "training time" argument to scoff at Laurel becoming Black Canary too early: its an ineffective argument, and this is why.
Yeah... We just have to wait and see what happens!
ReplyDeleteI really wish those people who have made up their mind about never liking Laurel (I am not saying they don't have their valid reasons) would just ignore her spoilers and ignore her story line altogther.
ReplyDelete
