Oliver just got the damsel in distress treatment of being chained to a railway with a train coming, LOL. Oliver is an ass and has no right to be pissed off that Felicity is moving on, but what else is new.
Chaining Oliver to the train track is 100% straight from the comic books Andrew Kreisbergs wrote. Wonder how he's going to get out of it with this time with no Black Canary to save his butt.
Well, he has Diggle, Roy, and Felicity, sometimes Captain Lance. One of them could probably step in. Or it's an incredibly long handcuff chain, he could swing out and let the train break the chain. I suppose Laurel could save him, but I'm not sure anyone's ready for that.
I can't wait to see Cupid!!! I love Amy Gumenick (Winchester Mommy)!! :D I want more scenes with TeamArrow and Olicity!! :) Cupid is very crazy, my poor Oliver :P Felicity, you don't love Ray Palmer, please, he looks like a creepy stalker! Hurry up Oliver or you will lose your Felicity. No matter if you are jealous if you don't act!!!!
If Laurel is targeted by Cupid, she could be in a position to rescue herself and help Oliver (maybe involving Team Arrow in the process), all it would take is a moment of distraction and Cupid underestimating her, it's not like Laurel hasn't taken out a few people over the seasons.
Well, that's depending on how much shipper bait they want to deploy
Comic version played like this: Cupid had swallowed the key, but BC chained herself next to Oliver, saying that the two of them dying together against a common foe would be so romantic no one would even remember Cupid's role. Cupid didn't like anyone hijacking her "love" story so she coughed up the key again just in time.
Somehow now i'm interested in the character of Cupid. Will Malcolm be a part of this as well? It would be interesting if Oliver has to save him and that's why she escapes. They kind of have the characters to do that story.
And Brick is set to appear too, they could have a confrontation there too.
Could be, I guess I was going by Cupid lurking around Laurel in Wildcat's gym. I guess word has spread that Felicity is helping the Arrow, I thought only Lance and a few others knew. Maybe Laurel gets herself involved in the rescue mission, she's suspiciously absent from the press release, I'm assuming she's still going to be in the episode.
Well, Marc said that while episode 6 was about Laurel/Ted/Roy, episode 7 is about Oliver/Felicity. They are trying to do "one episode is has less Felicity/Dig/Thea and more Roy/Laurel/Ted and for the other they change to other characters". Each episode will have focus on diferent supporting characters.
Episode 7 will be about Oliver's relationship(he being jealous for the first time xD) with Felicity and Ray Palmer's agenda(Marc said we'll have a much better understanding of his plans by the end of episode 7)
I'd say Thea and Diggle are still getting the shorter end of the stick, but I guess they're at least trying to balance things out with their characters, or at least keep things more balanced than they were in S2.
Wow, that sounds terrible, not that 'crazy, psycho, stalker chick' cliche isn't terrible to begin with, but that's how they resolved it in the Comics? I shudder to think what they'll do on the show.
Yeah, he shows up this episode (still don't know why Thea needs a new love interest), but if you break down the screentime, Thea is still way behind and while Diggle has screentime, he hasn't had a story line/development of his own yet this season.
Well, it's pretty balanced... Felicity may seem to have more than them because she's Oliver love interest and they can have short scenes with them easily written whenever they want. Also, she was the only character that never had an arc outside Team Arrow, so it's her first time in the spotlight.
My real issue is the way they wrote Team Arrow when there're more than 3 characters(It happened when Sara joined, when Roy joined), they can't find their way with what's each character task on the Team(Felicity has the easy part there). You can see it's happening also with Dig this Season. I always tought that for a better writing, for example, Dig should not go out to fight but remain with Felicity planning the tactics and guiding them(Because when Laurel joins the team, we will have 4 people that go fighting on the streets). I don't know if i explain myself right... Hope you get what i mean xD
Well, there's Felicity and if she's being targeted by Cupid, they might go there. I hope not, it would be a rehash of them fooling Slade in 2X23 and would annoy me with its bait-iness (the whole episode is about Oliver being jealous all of a sudden of Felicity's love life, don't need to add on to it even more ship baiting).
I think there's someone on Tumblr who breaks down the screentime of all the characters per episode/total so far in the season, it's interesting to see. I think they're balancing things out a bit more this season, but characters like Thea, Dig and Roy are still getting short-changed. Thea and Roy screentime wise, Diggle with storyline wise. They definitely don't know what to do with the 'team' and it started last season with Diggle, who had 2 centric episodes and other than that was in the background, being supportive. Roy this season, up to this episode, was mostly just another body in the field, while Diggle is just there. At least Laurel and Felicity get development and a story line of their own this season, for Laurel it's finally a good one, for Felicity it's the first time they've started to develop her as her own character, rather than half of a ship or just 'tech wiz'.
Felicity and Oliver is not officially an item at this time the same way Green Arrow and Black Canary were in the books at the time. Like you said, the level of shipper baiting if they play it like that would be simply ridicolous.
Exactly!!!! Oliver, my dear and mighty hero, DO SOMETHING!!!! The excuse of jealousy does not work if you let your wife away! I love Olicity but one thing it's the slow burn and other thing is that nothing happens.
And yet Oliver is going ballistic over Felicity dating Ray and 'moving on', which seems way OOC to me, but shippers are eating it up; if they're already pandering to fans, why not go all the way and give Felicity Black Canary's comic story line (which sucks, but still).
Agree. Well, Laurel got a whole paralel story last season(that's what happens when you have a character that can't be on the A Plot because she doesn't know the secret and why i think this season is so much better for her... They don't need to exclude her anymore).
They need break down each character and give everyone a proper task. There isn't order on the team, right now.
The only one who is well defined is Felicity(She is the Tech savvy on the Team and for Oliver is the love interest). Now she finally stoped being a 2 dimensional character and was sent to the outside world(It only reinforce her).
Roy is an aprentice for Oliver and a sidekick for the Team. But that left Dig out of a "task" on the team: he's Oliver's councelor but we don't know what he does on the team anymore, and one can fell that hit on the character... That's why i think he should manage the tactical part of the mission).
I think the problem isn't outside but on the team... All their Side Storyes are ok.
I think Theas character is in a position that is really hard to give her more screentime since she is one of the few who doesnt know about the secret identity of Oliver. So unless the episode is about Thea/Malcolm, Thea/Oliver or Thea/Roy its hard to give her more. She isnt in the know about Oliver, Roy and her are in a weird limbo, Laurel & Thea i dont know whats the status here since in S2 was pretty non-existant (i dont count the deleted scenes here), she doesnt really know Felicity & she had very little contact with Dig. Sin is god knows where, still not knowing about Sara. And Walter is out of the picture it seems. She barely has anyone in Starling beside Malcolm, Oliver & Roy.
Please not! That was god awful even by comic standards! If they pull a lovely dovey like that i would be pissed, it doesn't go well with the tone of the show... Just have Arsenal, Dig, Laurel or Wildcat helping him some other way.
Yeah, Laurel got her own story line last season, like Roy got one with the Mirakuru, however neither story lines were well developed. Thankfully Laurel is getting treated better this season and I'm excited for her story line.
I'm glad Felicity is being developed finally, beyond her function on the team or her feelings for Oliver. They really need to figure out what to do with Diggle and I like your idea of him being part of the tactical part, but with enough physical fighters, they can spread the mission/obstacles/bad guys so Diggle can get more on the action as well. Diggle's side story is fine the once or twice a season they resurrect it, but they need to do more with him per episode.
Meh, that's an excuse. They can give Thea a whole separate story line with the club (like they're doing this episode) or focus on her relationships with Oliver, Malcolm, Roy or even Laurel, if they remember that one. Her being out of the loop is a challenge, but the writers put her in this position, they have enough time to figure out what to do with her and enough characters she's connected to in order to develop her character.
Lol can they really do much with Roy since it seems he doesnt talk much lately. And they did put some focus on Thea/Oliver last week. I think her & Malcolm storylines are tricky. With her pretending that she believes Malcolm is dead they can do bonding time other then in secret or in flashbacks. And these writers have shown they have no idea what to do with characters who arent in on Olivers secret.
I think we have seen the last of Wildcat at least until the winter run of the show. The actor is occupied otherwise. I dont want L running into danger again alone without a mentor on her side. Because we see she reacts on impulses and that is not a good thing.
They can do something with anyone, it just requires competent writers who can come up with story lines, even if Roy doesn't talk much or Thea isn't in on the secret, they should be able to figure out what to do with them, they've had plenty of time to figure things out and plot out the season. Like you said, the writers have no idea what to do with characters who aren't in on Oliver's secret.
The impression I got from last night's episode is that Laurel is going to do her on thing as a vigilante. So I think she's def gonna help Oliver when a big baddie comes up, but she's not gonna be part of the team, or a sidekick. As much as I love Diggle I'm confused with his part in the team this season. It's even a little ridiculous that Roy has a full suit and Dig wears that mask and apparently they both do the same thing, act as sidekicks. I find it odd.
You know what they can do reduce the dependence on Felicity's hacking for intel gathering. They can send Diggle and Roy undercover to companies or streets to gather intel about suspects. Some thing like Reese would do in PoI like cloning the phone using Felicity's software, following suspects and figuring out what their agenda is. They need to create some intel which cannot be gathered by internet hacking. Also once in every few episodes let the villains be a team of bad guys so that everyone can kick ass.
Cupid is a pretty hated comic character. Kreisberg's whole run felt like he just wanted to be writing Batman and Cupid is basically watered-down Harley Quinn.
Sorry, you've got to shoulder some of it because you brought it up as kinda of a suggested scenario and the only negative you presented as why it "won't work this time" is Oliver doesn't have a set love interest!
Not 1) Vomiting up a key on screen would be unwatchable 2) How the holy f#*$)^# did Oliver and BC both get taken down by Cupid 3) How is threatening to commit suicide by chaining yourself to a train track an effective or positive character action for a supposedly strong woman 4) Usually dogs swallow stuff for comic relief, having a "villain" do it is just so ehh
If Felicity chains herself to a train track without a gun to her head first, I'll stop watching the show because it will signal that the writers are morons and there is no redemption.
If Oliver is upset about Felicity in the clip (and not just edited that way to get people to tune in, which seems more likely to me, but I don't know), I don't think it is so much shipper bait as it is part of Oliver's character arc. He is scared to be Oliver Queen to have a real life and run QC and have a relationship with someone he could really care about. All of that is being manifested on screen as Felicity turning back to QC and Ray being everything that Oliver is scared that he isn't capable of being--maybe he can't have the girl and fix the company and help the city wearing a suit instead of carrying a bow. So, seeing her move into the light with stand-in Oliver Queen is upsetting. It doesn't actually matter about their flirtation, but without their flirtation the character arc wouldn't carry the same dramatic tension.
I love it when they go undercover, have to break into buildings and stuff. Like when they broke into Merlyn Global and Dig was in security. I'd love more of that, but it seems too light for Arrow.
I might have condensed my description of the scene somewhat and not taken everything into account. I did not want to post several pages of the comic to explain how the confrontation went.
2. Oliver was going all stupid solo-act and confronted Cupid without backup. She had rigged explosives that took him out.
3. BC tried fighting her normally at first, but time was running out and Cupid is CRAZY with a capital C. It sorta worked in breaking through her dementia. 4. She even offered Oliver a knife to dig the key out, but said she would prefer "other ways for you to get deep inside me". She's completly insane.
I'm sorry I'm reacting viscerally to how horrible this storyline is. The more you tell me the worse it gets. I can't be trusted to respond in an appropriate manner. Urg bleh phlew yuck gag
I dunno, maybe its just me but I kinda really want Roy/Arsenal to rescue Oliver on the train tracks. Their bromance has been so good lately and I feel like saving Oliver would help Roy come to terms with the whole policeman murder and realize he is really the hero, not the villain
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Cannot wait!!!! Yay
ReplyDeleteThere is a better quality version out there. So I hope I will like cupid.
ReplyDeleteSlightly better version
ReplyDeleteThis promo is much better than the USA...can't wait now:)
ReplyDeleteOliver just got the damsel in distress treatment of being chained to a railway with a train coming, LOL. Oliver is an ass and has no right to be pissed off that Felicity is moving on, but what else is new.
ReplyDelete"Lovers...sounds creepy no matter how you say it."
ReplyDeleteShe did not chain Oliver to train tracks. I can't decide if it is so cliche it's funny or unbearably annoying. Right now it's funny.
Chaining Oliver to the train track is 100% straight from the comic books Andrew Kreisbergs wrote. Wonder how he's going to get out of it with this time with no Black Canary to save his butt.

ReplyDeleteOMG OMG OMG, I know I sound like a school girl but I DON'T CARE I am sooooo excited lol

I think is Felicity who is targeted... She's on a wrecked car behind Oliver on one of the promos...
ReplyDeleteSomehow now i'm interested in the character of Cupid. Will Malcolm be a part of this as well? It would be interesting if Oliver has to save him and that's why she escapes. They kind of have the characters to do that story.

ReplyDeleteI would say she wont be in it much.
ReplyDeleteYou mean she had other things going on during the filming of this episode? I wasn't really keeping track, so I didn't know.
ReplyDeleteWell, Marc said that while episode 6 was about Laurel/Ted/Roy, episode 7 is about Oliver/Felicity. ReplyDeleteYeah, comic version won't work this time since Arrow/Oliver doesn't have a set love interest.

Well, maybe then it's a good thing other are doing the writing duty on the TV version and not Kreisberg himself.
ReplyDeleteThat I can agree with. Anyone who writes crap like that shouldn't come within 100 miles of being paid to be a professional writer.
ReplyDeleteaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh Olicity!!!!!

ReplyDeleteLOL, that's what she sounds like to me, but I didn't read the comic, so I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.
ReplyDeleteLOL, God that would be terrible. I hope the writers just up Diggle's role in the episode and have him be in charge of Oliver's rescue.
ReplyDeleteI'd say Oliver shouldn't bitch, but Oliver shouldn't bitch. Dude had his chance and he blew it. More importantly I'm pumped for Cupid.
ReplyDelete
