Happy Halloween my Freaks ! American Horror Story offered us a terrific episode last Wednesday. “Edward Mordrake Part 2” was excellent, it was exactly the episode I wanted to see since the beginning of the season.
Finally, after spending three long episodes presenting the whole cast, we finally got into what AHS is all about : surprising deaths, shocking revelations and weird sex scenes.
Edward Mordrake continued to visit the freaks, making them revealing the darkest secret. It was an excellent way to get to know more about their past. I very much enjoyed Suzy Legless backstory, never thought she could murder someone. But at least, she was inspired to perform and changed her life. Paul’s flashback was informative on his character, I was hoping for a bit more. He gave the people what they wanted : a monster. But the best part was of course Elsa’s flashback.
Once again, Jessica Lange gave everything in that episode. She was so touching when she asked Edward to take her with him, it broke my heart. And in those flashbacks, she was extraordinary. I’m running of adjectives to describe her performance. It was so exciting and fun to watch her as an S&M dominatrix. She was very sexy and very twisted.
We finally learnt how Elsa lost her legs, and I was very shocked. I would have never imagined it was because of a snuff film. It was so sad and horrifying to watch Elsa drugged and abused. She felt the pain and she was conscious for all the time. She was saved by a customer fallen in love, but she wish she would have died there because her career was over. That is the only thing that has ever mattered for Elsa : her career and the glory.
After listening to that particularly dark secret, Edward Mordrake was willing to take Elsa when he heard someone else, someone worse than Elsa : Twisty.
Twisty was having a busy night, with his three kidnapped kids and Dandy as his apprentice. And everything got worst for him when the girl escaped, again. He managed to get her back, but he was seen by Jimmy and Maggie. Those two were out in the woods, after running out of gas. Peter Evans and Emma Roberts have a great chemistry, I like their characters and their relationship more than last year in Coven.
Jimmy decided to be a hero and run save the girl from the awful clown. I don’t think he did to impress Maggie, but still it had this effect. But, unfortunately for them they didn’t know there was another clown, Dandy and he hit them from behind.
Then, Twisty and Dandy put on a show, for the kids. Maggie was trapped in a box and Dandy about to cut her in a half. God, Dandy is so scary. Finn Wittrock is really amazing playing a psychopath, his smile is both charming and scary. Jimmy used his hands to free himself and knock Dandy. I loved it when Twisty applauded and made the kids applaud too. Those clowns are crazy.
Twisty had taken Jimmy back in his trailer, while Maggie and the kids were followed by Dandy. Edward Mordrake interrupted Twisty. I was so happy to finally know more about Twisty and his past. His story was very touching. He was a simple man, enjoying his work as a clown. Out of jealous, mean dwarfs made him leave, accusing him of being a pedophile. So, Twisty hated the Freaks, they had ruined his life. He tried to take care of the children after losing his job, he created toys for children, which were lame. The only way he found to help the children was to murder their family, so they could have fun all the time. Poor guy. He was the one Edward Mordrake wanted, with all his ghost freaks, they took Twisty. I was surprised and glad Twisty died so soon in the season. We desperately needed the story to move forwards and it exactly what Twisty’s death did :
The people of Jupiter acknowledged Jimmy as their hero, he saved their town from the maniac clown. The scene where all the people come to the show to thank and meet the Freaks was very nice, a complete change from the past episodes where people were afraid and disgusted by the freaks. Now one of them saved the town, they’re not so scary I guess. Desiree was delightful with the little girl, I’m always so thrilled when she appears on screen. I think she’s my favorite character of the season. I don’t think this sudden acceptance of the people of Jupiter will last very long, but it was still enjoyable to watch.
And now, there is a new maniac in town. Dandy has finally acted out, after losing his mentor and murdered someone ! Goodbye Patti LaBelle, I will miss you but I’m so thrilled Dandy wasted no time and killed someone. He stopped being a childish spoiled brat, even if I must admit it’s so amusing to watch him losing his temper over anything. I loved his tantrums, especially the one in the woods when he screamed at Maggie.
Dandy always has this innocence on his face and yet he’s very dark. He’s quite frightening, way more than Twisty actually. I can’t wait for the next episode and see what will happen with him and Gloria. I’m sure her reaction will be priceless, when she discovers the body. I missed her this week.
“Edward Mordrake Part 2” was a very satisfying episode, I really enjoyed it. IMO, it’s the best episode of the season so far, finally things are moving faster and I can’t wait to see what happens net for the Elsa and her freaks. Finally, I'm excited with those freaks and their future.

Carnies notes :
• Elsa thought Edward was there for sex first. Kinky girl, I understand you, Wes Bentley is hot.
• No Ethel and Gloria this week. I miss them.
• Twisty’s face without his mask is awful. Poor man, he shot himself in the face but didn’t kill himself. Now, Dandy has his mask, it really suits him too.
• Denis O’ Hare arrived in Jupiter and met with Elsa. Too bad we didn’t see the hot Viking. I can’t wait to see more scenes between Denis O’ Hare and Jessica Lange. But it feels like Stanley will bring the end of Elsa Mars.
