Costa Ronin ("The Americans") will join the cast of "Marvel's Agent Carter" in the role of Anton Vanko, who longtime Marvel Cinematic Universe fans will recognize as the father of one of Tony Stark's deadliest foes.
Though fans first heard of Anton and Howard Stark's business partnership in Marvel's "Iron Man 2," when Vanko's son Ivan (portrayed by Mickey Rourke) made his debut, we'll get to see a significantly younger Anton as Costa Ronin in the new ABC series premiering January 2015.
"Fans have wanted to learn more about Anton Vanko since he was first mentioned in 'Iron Man 2' and we're happy to deliver with Costa's terrific performance in 'Marvel's Agents Carter,'" said Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television.
"Marvel's Agent Carter," starring Captain America's Hayley Atwell, follows the story of Peggy Carter. It's 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life--Steve Rogers. Inspired by the feature films "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," along with the short "Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter."
Starring Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, Chad Michael Murray as SSR Agent Jack Thompson, Enver Gjokaj as SSR Agent Daniel Sousa, James D'Arcy as Edwin Jarvis, and Shea Whigham as SSR Chief Roger Dooley, "Marvel's Agent Carter" was written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
