Since they promised us a "shocking ending" I think Neal will end up faking his own death in the end because he will find out that the FBI has no intention of ever letting him go free. Hence the "Is your freedom worth your life?" question Peter asked. And only Mozzie will know. But then, Neal will leave a clue for Peter to let him know he's okay, a la House and Forman in House MD.
