Alaric ?
ReplyDeleteCan I opt for... none? I can say my least favourite revival - Tony Almeida. Not only did they ruin the emotional death that he had, they COMPLETELY ruined his character in season 7. Awful move, 24.
ReplyDeletePrison Break did it so much in the final season and I just got bored. First Sara, then Michael's mother, then Kellerman (who was actually my favourite character in the first two seasons). It became ridiculous.
I don't think I've seen a revival where a) it's not completely obvious that they're not dead (Malcolm Merlyn), or b) there is no point to it and it's not remotely interesting.
Buffy, Dean, Mikail and Kol.
ReplyDeleteOther: Darla on Angel (was perfect she got so much better on Angel than Buffy)
Buffy Summers and Kara Thrace "Starbuck", without a doubt. Darla's resurrection was really surprising, too.
ReplyDeleteThe Governor, Shane and Andrea #twd
ReplyDeleteOpie and Clay #soa
Mona #pll
Ianto #torchwood
And very very more.....
Buffy, Spike, Dean, Sam.
ReplyDeleteJocelyn Carter(POI), Leslie Shay(Chicago Fire), Tommy Merlyn(Arrow), Mike Renko(NCISLA), Lance Sweets(Bones),
ReplyDeleteI chose Buffy and Dean for exactly the same reasons: the scene where they wake up in the ground and dig their way out of their grave. I always found that particularly striking visually and completely frightening, just thinking about finding yourself buried underground gives me goosebumps. And it's so very symbolic: it gives both characters a new birth, a new start.
ReplyDeleteBuffy and Alaric!
ReplyDeleteTechnically Bobby Singer never was "revived" from the dead, yes we saw him after he died on the show but those times he was never brought back to life, he was either a ghost or spirit.
ReplyDeleteKol is alive? I thought he is stuck on the other side.
ReplyDeleteTommy Merlyn was never revived from the dead.
ReplyDeleteThe initial return of Dean and Buffy. Only because we knew they weren't meant to stay dead, that they were main characters and this was part of their arc.
ReplyDeleteAs for the rest - "What's dead should stay dead." - Dean
The killing and reviving of characters has gotten ridiculous. Writers no longer have a story to tell so they go the unimaginative route and bring a character back. What is the purpose of their soul crushing, heart breaking deaths if we know they're only going to be brought back in a few episodes or next season? Why should we care? Why should we be affected at all? I'm not opposed to seeing them in flashbacks, as ghostly reminders or a voice in our main characters head but I am opposed to reviving dead, been dead, long dead, characters for the thrill.
I like the way you think. I'd take Sweets back in any form - he can come back as a zombie and eat the showrunner's brain. Yay!
ReplyDeleteRumpelstiltskin - OuaT.
ReplyDeleteAnastasia (The second time with the water) - OuaTiW.
Son-Of-Coul (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D).
Qetsiyah from TVD?
ReplyDeleteI always find myself almost gasping for breath when I watch those scenes.
ReplyDeleteAlaric, thank God!
ReplyDeletePeter Hale is the best ahah
ReplyDeleteTo my knowledge (for Shay and Sweets) none of those characters were revived. They just died.
ReplyDelete"I am opposed to reviving dead, been dead, long dead, characters for the thrill."
ReplyDeleteSee: Paul Kellerman. Bringing him back for the Prison Break finale having been dead since the end of season 2. What is the point.
Hope's Mom from Raising Hope
ReplyDeleteDean? Sam? Castiel? C'mon, guys. No on really dies. Maybe the first time Dean came back, but that's it, the other ones were just boring.
ReplyDeleteMalcolm, Spike, Castiel and Alaric because I missed all of them dearly on their respective shows
ReplyDeleteLeast favourite: Jeremy and Sara. Jeremy had an emotional impact on Elena, it caused the best scenes and storyline in season 4 and made it all redundant. Sara being dead (s1 peremiere), not dead (s2 ep4), dead again (s2 finale on the amazo), not dead (s3 premiere) and then dead again (s3 premiere) took out literally ALL impact her death had and makes the current run for her killer feel...redundant. At this point I'm convinced that it was Death himself that shot her because he was pissed off with her constantly avoiding his grip
Joss is dead, Tommy is dead and Sweets remains dead. We're talking ressurections, not people dying
ReplyDeleteKols spirit is now inhabiting a new body. Nate Buzolic is NOT back as Kol (yet).
ReplyDeleteOn The Originals, along with Finn, Mikael and Esther
Since Cas was supposed to stay dead (because Sera Gamble just HATED the guy) no one expected him to return. When he did it was a welcome surprise. We knew that Sam and Dean would never die because duh, they're the leads. Whereas Bobby and Cas being secondary mains was never a given
ReplyDeleteCoulson
ReplyDeleteI don't watch the spinoff show, thats why it was confusing to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for answering.
I would really recomend the spin-off, it's different from the mothershow. Tone-wise a lot darker and less romance focused. Plus Elijah is a badass
ReplyDeleteI love Elijah, but I wasn't convinced by the pilot. I guess if I was bored ill binge watch it.
ReplyDeleteThat is completely wrong. Kripke wanted to kill off Cas, not Sera. In fact she begged Kripke to keep him alive at the end of Swan Song.
ReplyDeleteDean and Sam!!! :D ♥
ReplyDeleteNo characters should ever come back from the dead. Either they should not kill them off in the first place or they should stick with their decision. It's pretty bad when at the end of the big emotional death all I am really thinking about is how soon the character is going to come back. Sadly that's pretty much where most genre shows are at this time. It lessens any tension about death and in many cases the emotional impact they are going for in the first place. It's a cheap cliffhanger that signifies nothing at this point.
ReplyDeleteOn Supernatural, Dean and Sam obviously needed to stay alive and Sam's death actually became a plot point for the next season so I did vote for them although SPN is the #1 violator of cheapened death ---by a lot. Other than that, the only people I even remotely enjoyed coming back was Peter for his snark and Angel for the spin-off. Buffy coming back signified the quickest downfall of any show, Castiel should have died to end the angel plot once and for all on SPN (thanks Sera), and Malcolm Merlyn coming back on Arrow ended my love affair with that show in one stupid Maury Povitch moment.
Shouldn't' Doctor Who and Bobby Ewing be on this list ?
ReplyDeleteMulder (The X Files - Season 8)
ReplyDeleteAlaric and Stefan
ReplyDeleteSupernatural - Dean, Sam, Castiel, and Bobby
ReplyDeleteVampire Diaries - Alaric and Stefan
I'd prefer my favorite characters to not die in the first place though. Bringing people back from the dead on a show takes away from the threat of dying. At the same time I'll gladly have someone come back from the dead if I love the character too much.
Esther, Kol, Finn are not the original characters, I refuse to consider them in this category. Disappointing as I really want them back...:(
ReplyDeleteRumplestiltskin Once Upon a Time?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Kol. Killing him off in the first place was a huge mistake.
ReplyDeleteeven though I usually hate death resurrections as it generally cheapens losing a character to "death": ie TVD and it's revolving door of death (one of the many things which led me to drop the show), the ones that I accepted were: Buffy, Angel, Spike, Sam, and Dean
ReplyDelete1) Dean being resurrected from hell. (the need to define which death there a few)
ReplyDelete2.) Angel being return from the hell dimension, it was good the way slowly eased it back.
3) Spikes talk with Angel inc after being brought back was cool.
Just don't OD, its a lot better than TVD.
ReplyDeleteOther: Alaric. So many really great characters on TVD died way too early and he was at the top of that list so I was pretty glad when he came back. The second time, I mean...
ReplyDeleteSarah Lance. That is all.
ReplyDeleteI think a different category should be made for deaths that happen prior to the show. For instance, in my opinion, Sarah Lance was one of the best things to ever happen to Arrow and I didn't find it cheap at all nor did I find that it ruined her emotional death since it had happened prior to the show. It's different when shows just decide to resurrect dead mothers or fathers, but in this particular situation I thought it worked very nicely.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have as much of a problem with Sarah coming on originally because she was a great kick butt character and Oliver himself came back from the presumed dead. I did have a major problem when they turned Sarah's character into another love triangle though. That should have never been resurrected.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny to me when people complain about that because I never felt that Sarah was part of any love triangle. Sure there was tension with the whole Laurel situation but I didn't interpret it as a part of a love triangle since Oliver and Laura were so clearly done. I loved Sarah as a character individually above all else, but on top of that, I also happened to think that Oliver-Sarah was the best romantic relationship they've had on the show yet.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, we are getting off topic here, my main point was that Sarah coming back didn't cheapen the show.
Who would not vote to see Dean's face come back to life?
ReplyDeleteit's so beautiful.
Alaric TVD
ReplyDeleteBuffy >>> all.
ReplyDeleteYeah!! A LOT !!!
