*sigh* - Since fans are what rates a shows popularity, then no. It can't be overrated to fans because they evidently like what they see. Non-fans don't like what they see, therefore their opinions do not matter in the general sense of a show's popularity. ie - comment below says Supernatural is overrated. I'm a fan of SPN and VM. Is anyone going to tell me I'm wrong for that because THEY don't like MY show? Please.
I don't think shows can be overrated when all they have is cult status. Shows that are critically acclaimed but have no audience, those can be referred to as overrated, because they are regarded highly by an elite group, with whom one may disagree. But Veronica Mars is simply beloved by a small and devoted fanbase. That's not overrated or underrated that just viewer/nonviewers differing in opinions.
VM was one of only 3 shows that hooked me with the pilot and it was ended way to soon for me. So NO not overrated. LOVE is great and the movie was every thing I wanted it to be. ;)
They really are. I used to look forward to reading the discussions of these polls every day, even if they weren't about shows or characters that I watch. Now it's either TVD/OuAT or click bait.
Don't know exactly what DylanJames18 was going for when the topic was submitted. Perhaps he/she thinks that the show gets more praise and attention than it should. Or perhaps they want a lively debate, or they simply want to watch people hurl insults at each other. Who knows really.
But to your first point; it is possible for a show to be overrated. There are some shows out there that are just plain bad and you shake your head at what it is people see in it. The reverse is true too.
The TVD poll about the reasons why the show isn't good now was click bait and the options were stupid but the discussion was interesting. At least people didn't act like toddlers lol. But I'm tired of these click bait polls. I wish these polls would encourage a more interesting type of debate instead of just ship wars or people trolling.

Me too but in all fairness to STV, it's what the users are submitting. I don't know how they get around the childish click bait's to fun and lively debates while staying random. It's just irksome. I remember that TVD poll and it was ridiculous. I roll my eyes through the ones I have no interest in and check back the next day.
Veronica Mars actually surprised me. Usually when I go into a show with high expectations, I am completely let down. That happened with Firefly for me. However after hearing glowing praise for Veronica Mars in the Best show Competition a few years ago, I tried it and ended up liking it almost as much as the people promoting it.
Simply put....everyone is different, with different tastes.
VM was actually ahead of its time. If they did a reboot today....I think it would do well. They definitely concluded the show wayyyy too soon, with too many loose ends. The movie for me did not address alot of things....
OMG, dying on the discussion about this. This was a fine question....I think most people get the point, as there are folks that think the show gets too much hype for what it was and what it did on TV, in its day. I feel you, and think that there is something for everyone in the show. I recently just got into VM and was obsessed. I ended up telling a few of my friends and they then got into it and became obsessed (serious binge watching). Its a good show, which ended way to early IMO.
Be nice. It's a case of common everyday spoken language usage versus proper written language. If it's that bad....just move onto another thread. At the very least be respectful, as English is not everyone's first language on the forum.
Note to the author of this poll title question: use either "too" overrated or better still, just "overrated". Something (or someone) is either overrated or isn't. A modifier is awkward and really not necessary here.. Asking if something or someone is too overrated is "almost" akin to asking if someone is too pregnant.

ReplyDeleteSupernatural was great for seasons 2 through 5, but it has been awful since season 6. I finally stopped watching this year and I feel so liberated.
