U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 is developing a TV drama about the jihadist, unrecognized Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS, and British muslims who decide to fight for it.
Peter Kosminsky, currently directing mini-series Wolf Hall for the BBC and PBS, will write the Channel 4 series after a half-year research period. He is developing the project with former Channel 4 drama head Liza Marshall’s recently launched production firm Archery Pictures, Broadcast magazine reported.
Channel 4 expects production on the ISIS project to start in 2015, with the show to air in 2016. The drama is expected to be based on research, but revolve around fictional characters and storylines.

Really? Little too soon.
ReplyDeleteFirst FOX with Ebola and now that... People are dying and they want to make money out of it? Are they seriously running out of ideas?!
ReplyDeleteOn one hand, I think this could be really interesting if done right.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand...I see so many complaints and craziness surrounding this that it feels like an attention grab.
Here comes the controversy.
ReplyDeleteLOL trust Channel 4 to do this sort of thing XD
ReplyDeleteNow it might be. When this show airs in 2016, it probably won't be.
ReplyDeleteI really don't understand your surprise or frustration. This has nothing to do with running out of stories or ideas.
ReplyDeleteEntire industries are created based on people dying. CSI, NCIS, the 100.000 other crime shows all make money by portraying death, many of which closely mirror real-life occurrences. The entire medicine industry exists because of people dying. Welcome to planet Earth, where humans make billions of dollars off the suffering of others. FOX and Channel 4 are merely developing shows they think will get ratings. If a cow eating grass would've gotten the same ratings, that's what they would've aired. Sickness and death is a major money magnet.
Bad idea. Very bad idea.
ReplyDeleteIf it's something along the lines of Homeland and Sleeper Cell, this could certainly be something realy good.
ReplyDeleteNot quite uncommon, shows base storylines around stuff happening in the real world, South Park already did Ebola, L&O did episodes based on real news stories all the time... FX also had that war series which I think was the first show about a current war. I actually don't think it's a bad thing at all, people are watching it on the news so why shouldn't scripted fare be topical and about current issues as well?
ReplyDeleteHot Muslim guys please, that's all I ask.
ReplyDeleteNo.
