Throwback Thursday - Charmed - All Hell Breaks Loose

30 Oct 2014

Throwback Thursday, a weekly article in which we look back at our favorite TV episodes from over the years.

Halloween is only one day away and what better way to celebrate October 31st than with a very bewitching show for Throwback Thursday? This week, I will be highlighting the sensational third season finale of the cult classic show, Charmed. As fans of the show will know, the third season finale changed everything for the show. It happens to be my all-time favourite episode and it's an episode I regularly rewatch from time to time.

To begin, Charmed is my favourite show of all-time. I grew up watching it and obsessing over it, endlessly trying to create my very own Book of Shadows replica so I could watch the episodes with my Book of Shadows handy to help the Halliwell sisters against their fight with evil. I have probably re-watched every single Charmed episode more times than I could count. I usually debate with myself which episode of Charmed is my favourite and I always come back to this episode - All Hell Breaks Loose.

While the series finale, Forever Charmed, was an almost-perfect farewell and for a time it was my favourite episode, I realised that it doesn't top the third season finale. The stakes in All Hell Breaks Loose are incredibly high, featuring exciting and life-changing moments in the world of Charmed. Plus, to me, it has the absolute best season-closer, twisting the tradition of the Halliwell Manor doors closing by having them violently slammed shut by Shax, smashing the windows and panning out to leave the audience gob-smacked by the events that have occured.

"I think we made it. I'm sure we made it, do you think we made it?" - Piper
The episode starts really well, with the Charmed Ones hurrying into the Halliwell Manor with Dr. Griffiths in tow. We don't know what's going on, but we know there's a demon after them and they could come at any minute. I literally don't have to watch the episode to know the opening off-by-heart, I have seriously seen this episode too many times. Anyway, Phoebe goes upstairs to check a Book of Shadows entry on the demon that's after them - Shax, the Source's Assassin. While she does, Shax bursts into the Halliwell Manor in a tornado of wind, knocking Prue and Piper to the ground. Shax appears and is about to kill Dr. Griffiths, but Prue pushes him out of the way and is hit by Shax's ball of wind, causing her to smash straight through a wall. Piper gets up and is hit by the same ball of wind. Phoebe saves Dr. Griffiths in time.

"Evil wind that blows. That which forms below. No longer may you dwell. Death takes you with this spell." - Phoebe

I never understood why Piper didn't just freeze Shax from the floor when she sees Prue get thrown through the wall, or even better, why didn't she just freeze him the moment Shax came through the door. I know it would have been boring to have Phoebe come down and all three say the Vanquishing spell together and poof, Shax is gone. But it's a very large plothole when Prue or Piper could have used their powers and saved themselves the trouble. That isn't even the most major glitch of the episode (or series) so I'm not going to delve into that, but main thing is here is that the whole sequence is pretty exciting. Of course Leo was going to heal them, but for just a second you worry. You see the blood and it looks bad.

Prue wants to finish Shax off while he's weak but it ends up leading to Prue's ultimate downfall. Unknown to Prue and Piper, the local news are in the area filming and catch Piper blowing up Shax on live television. Now they're exposed, something that has never and should never happen to witches or any magical being of any kind. I remember the first time watching this episode when it aired on LIVING in the United Kingdom and I was gobsmacked yet again! It's when the camera reveals they had been seen by a cameraman and a reporter that I was just like "okay, this is too much excitement for me." I honestly thought this episode was God's gift to the television world. Have I stressed enough yet how much I adore this show?

"That's what gives you a second chance, that's what gives us a second chance." - Phoebe

Phoebe and Cole's storyline - I could have done without in this episode. It just felt like a way to get Alyssa Milano out of the way to let Shannen Doherty and Holly Marie Combs to have Shannen's final episode together. It was a shame to have Phoebe miss out on the most exciting stuff, can you imagine how much more exciting the whole exposure storyline would have been with Phoebe trapped in the Manor too? I did love the Phoebe and Cole relationship in season three, in fact, besides Piper and Leo of course, Phoebe and Cole had the most interesting and entertaining relationship in the show!

The whole exposure storyline kicks off once Prue and Piper see the footage on television. Their reactions were priceless, I always remember Prue dropping the remote and her little "oh". The situation looked so dire and the girls, for once, were completely helpless - even Leo couldn't orb them anyway in case whitelighters became exposed too. When Piper says "what are we gonna do?" I am literally crying out "nothing, 'cause ya fucked!" Seriously, the whole exposure to the mortal world was single-handedly the most desolate situation the Charmed Ones ever experience on the show - there's chaos, there's violence - just no control whatsoever and there's literally no help for the Charmed Ones. Things escalate so quickly and to a point where everything is lost. If I have to pick out my most favourite storyline of Charmed, it would have to be this one - the exposure. One of the glitches I previously mentioned was that later on, during season six, the Cleaners were introduced to prevent magical exposure. That's all fine if they were only introduced because of what happened here, but no, they claimed to have been watching the Charmed Ones since they became witches yet where the hell were they here? Having a day off? Went down to the local pub for a pint and a packet of roasted nuts? I am glad they didn't clean this up because the most exciting part is yet to happen.

"Our lives, Piper, everything that we've worked for could be completely destroyed with... with one stupid mistake. Our entire future, our entire destiny could be wiped out just like that." - Prue

After flinging self-proclaimed witch Alice Hicks from the Manor after she breaks in, Alice decides to get her revenge. Just as Prue snaps her fingers, a gunshot goes off and Piper gasps. Prue doesn't realise until she looks down and sees a river of blood running down Piper's shirt that her sister has been shot. If there was ever an episode where the actresses of Charmed should have been nominated for awards - this one is it. They are now transformed into mortals, unable to do anything to help the situation as it now becomes deadly. Piper is shaking, terrified, and Prue is trying to comfort her, to call for Leo but she's terrified too. She knows Leo can't hear her because he's in the Underworld checking on Phoebe, but she tries anyway because she doesn't know what else to do. The sisterly bond between Prue and Piper is at its strongest here, leading to Prue's ultimate decision to break the wiccan code of not harming innocents as she goes full-on bad-ass. Seeing Prue's desperation as she gets her dying sister to the car to drive her to the hospital but sees the entire drive and road is blocked by rioting people was heartbreaking. Still crying out for Leo, Prue does the only thing she knows will be effective to get those trespassing idiots out of her way.

Prue, Prue, she's our man, if she can't do it, no one can! Woo!

"Prue, I'm cold. I-I-I can't feel my legs. Don't go. I love you." - Piper

Prue takes Piper to the hospital where we have one of the most heart-breaking scenes in Charmed history. Just the line Piper delivers to Prue as she's lying on the bed with the doctors buzzing around her. Prue devastated to see her sister slipping away, crying uncontrollably. Piper tells her "I love you" before the heart moniter flatlines. I can never watch this scene without feeling a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. I just can't watch this scene without becoming an emotional mess. Brilliantly-acted, heart-wrenching - it's another highlight of All Hell Breaks Loose that makes this a standout episode in the show's eight-year history. Charmed was always at its strongest when it showcased the strength of family and sisterly love. Here, we have a family tarnished and a sister dead, seemingly irreversable, leaving Prue in mourning and angry when Leo shows up - the one person who could have healed and saved her. I just thought, if Phoebe hadn't of went down into the Underworld, Leo wouldn't have went down after her which made him unreachable when Piper was shot. If Leo was above ground and came when Prue first called for him, then Piper would have healed and time wouldn't have had to reset (well, they would have to sort out the exposure mess but imagine how amazing a storyline that would have been in season four had Prue lived).

"They think we're the demons now..." - Prue

So with Piper dead and no option but to have Tempus reverse time, Phoebe agrees to stay in the Underworld as payment to reset time. Time does reset, taking us right back to the start of the episode just after Phoebe ran upstairs and before Shax bursts through the doors. It was a very clever way of ending the episode - to have the opening scene play itself out but then differ when Phoebe doesn't respond to Prue's calls, thus removing her from being able to save Prue and Piper when they get blasted through the wall by Shax and call for Leo to heal them. No Phoebe and no Leo puts Prue and Piper in a lonely place again, a desperate course of events that again spins out of the Charmed Ones' control. The moment where Shax again blasts Prue and Piper through the wall is again one of the show's best moments. Only now, Phoebe doesn't come running down the stairs to save them, and so we see what happens when she didn't. Shax kills Dr. Griffiths, looks at the death and destruction he has caused, and leaves in a tornado of wind, completely satisfied of a job well done. The Manor doors smash upon his exit, ending the season and the original Charmed legacy forever.

"The End." - Shax

All Hell Breaks Loose is a shining example of a season finale done right. It had everything, including one of the best and most chilling lines of the series, delivered by Prue ("They think we're the demons now"). As far as main character deaths go, Prue's is one of the best in television history. For one, she was one of the three main characters, so to have her actually die was a major development, especially since they never reversed her death - something that a lot of shows do these days when they kill off a character just to have them resurrect or not really be dead after all. Charmed didn't do that. I mean, they couldn't anyway even if they wanted to, but having Prue die was huge, HUGE plot development that forever changed the course of the show.

I do wonder if Prue didn't insist on going after Shax in broad daylight and in turn expose them as witches, then maybe she wouldn't have died. I mean, Shax was hellbent on killing the Charmed Ones as per the request of the Source of All Evil, but every demon is hellbent on killing the Charmed Ones and they never succeeded. If the girls weren't exposed, which led to Piper getting shot and killed and the whole reason for time resetting to before the first attack, then maybe Prue would still be alive.

I know Shannen Doherty would have exited the series regardless no matter the outcome of the episode, but realistically, if they weren't exposed, Prue would be alive and there would have been no Paige. I adore Paige, and Rose McGowan was an amazing addition to the cast in season four, but I can't help imagining what the rest of the show would have been like with Prue instead of Paige.

The third season finale of Charmed had everything in it, brimming with excitement and destruction, spelling the end of one of television's most influential witches. Prue was forever missed on the show, it was such a shame they couldn't bring her back for the series finale, or at least have hers and Andy Trudeau's picture on the wall. Nevertheless, All Hell Breaks Loose was incredible, from start to finish.

I would love to know what you guys thought of Prue's death and the episode altogether. Do you guys have a different favourite episode of the show? A favourite season? A favourite moment? A favourite character? A favourite pairing? I would love to talk Charmed as I have so much I would love to write about the show. I am hoping to maybe do an anniversary article on Charmed, maybe next year for the 10th Anniversary of the Beginning of the Final Season, much like I did for Desperate Housewives when it celebrated its 10th Anniversary earlier this month.

Poll - which set of Charmed Ones do you prefer. The originals - Prue, Piper and Phoebe, or the Reconstituted - Piper, Phoebe and Paige. It's the age-old question, something that has been debated amongst the fanbase for years and years.

CHECK OUT MY THROWBACK THURSDAYS

CHARMED - ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE

My first Throwback Thursday from October 2014. Check out the game-changing third season finale, All Hell Breaks Loose, that spelled the end of a Charmed One and seemingly destroyed the Charmed legacy forever. Rest in peace, Prue Halliwell. The power of three will set us free. Blessed be.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER - THE BODY

Perhaps the most beautifully written episode of television ever, The Body is hailed as a classic and is among some of the cast and crew's favourite episodes of all-time. My second Throwback Thursday and it's an episode that requires us to get the tissues out.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES - DISASTER EPISODES

My third Throwback Thursday included all five disaster episodes on the show, including Bang, Something's Coming, City On Fire, Boom Crunch and Down the Block There's a Riot. Take a walk down Wisteria Lane as we reflect on those five infamous episodes.

THE SECRET CIRCLE - FAMILY

My fourth Throwback Thursday was of the much-missed show The Secret Circle. I covered the series finale of the show, 'Family', as well as taking a look back at the first season as a whole. This wasn't a perfect show in the least but it still holds a special place in the hearts of its many fans.

GHOST WHISPERER - FREE FALL / THE ONE

My fifth Throwback Thursday was of the CBS supernatural drama Ghost Whisperer, where Melinda Gordon can see and talk to ghosts. She helps them to cross over into the light, and in my featured episodes, she deals with the biggest calamity to happen in Grandview in the double-episode season one finale.

REVENGE - PILOT

My sixth Throwback Thursday was the ABC drama Revenge, where I take a look back at the episode that started it all - the Pilot. In it, we are welcomed to the Hamptons by the narrating Emily Thorne, who plots wicked schemes to bring down the sinners who wronged her father. The show premiered with this episode in 2011, and ended in 2015.

  1. Loved Charmed as well, loved Prue and was very sad when she died.
I liked Paige as well though, she brought something fresh to the show. It wasn't the same without Prue, but I still liked Paige and so I voted for both.

  2. Thanks for commenting! I loved Prue too and was devastated when she died. I didn't think it would happen so it was very shocking. Paige definitely brought something new to the show which changed the dynamic completely. I don't think I could vote against either set of Charmed Ones so I picked both too :P

  3. Still waiting for that reunion movie!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Here here! There's no reason why they can't do it, I mean Holly, Alyssa, Rose AND Shannen said they would, so what are they waiting for?

  5. I have to say I cried when I first watched the episode! I was maybe 11-12 and it was purely heartbreaking. Probably the best Charmed episode ever + some of the season 4 and 5 eps.
Prue leaving took a hit on the show but at this point I couldn't see the show go in an other direction. But that is a good question how would things go through if Pure didn't die.
I'm a huge Paige fan and I love what she brought to the show, cause Phoebe couldn't pull of the quircky anymore and Paige was quite authentic, Overall the show was really well written till mid season 6.

  6. Thanks for reading :D Charmed made me cry quite a few times during the span of the show and this episode probably more so than others. Another time was in "Hell Hath No Fury" when Piper breaks down over Prue's death. Holly Marie Combs is just a phenomenal actress as Piper.
I am dying to know what direction the show would have went if Prue lived. I think the exposure storyline could have carried on over into Season 4 and showed the Charmed Ones' struggles against being out as witches - the possibilities are endless.
Paige is one of my favourite Charmed Ones, she was so fun to watch and she just fit into the show so well when it could have been a disaster. I'm so glad it wasn't. I love Rose McGowan so much so she did a great job too.

I agree with you on the well written until mid-season 6 comment. I didn't enjoy Season 6 very much, and Season 7 and 8 were good but they could have been so much better and just not up to the standard of Seasons 1-5.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ikr! I've been watching Charmed for about 5, 6 years and became a huge fan of it. I would love to see the entire cast reunite for a all big great new story.

    ReplyDelete
  8. We are like sisters then because Charmed was honestly the first show I ever got hooked on too haha. You don't suppose we're the new Charmed Ones, do you? :P

I completely agree with Gideon and the Avatars too. I found them to be a little dull compared to the Big Bads the Charmed Ones have conquered so the seasons they were in (6 and 7) fell kinda flat. I do absolutely love how bittersweet the series finale is and to have those flashes into the future in the last moments, but it was dampened because there was no picture of Prue, which I felt was a huge dishonour to the role she had on the show. I mean, she was an Original! They loved their big sister but she doesn't even get put on the wall? I know they had budget issues but come on, it was the last episode ever they could have went all out at least! I agree though, they could have had a more epic fight, though the end of Kill Billie Vol 2 with the Manor blowing up was pretty epic, I loved that.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Definitely! A reunion would be every fan's dream. Even if they don't reprise their roles, I would just love a reunion show of the cast and crew talking about Charmed and looking back at it. I just need that reunion so badly! Haha so obsessed :P

  10. We are probably descendents of the Charmed ones ;-) I hope the franchise will get another chance to shine.

  11. Love Charmed, it was the first show I ever watched and it´s my one of my favourite TV shows of all time. I loved Paige, she was the best, I didn´t mind Prue, she was a good character but I prefer The Reconstituted Charmed Ones because seasons 1-2 are my least favourite seasons and mainly because of Paige. My favourite seasons are: 6,4,7,8,5,2,1. What are yours??

    ReplyDelete
  12. I know it wasn´t as brilliant as Buffy was, another one of my favourite tv shows of all time, but Charmed was really good, I don´t like that people only talk about Buffy and Buffy and Buffy and don´t mention Charmed, because it aired in the same decade and they only remember Buffy, which was really good. I mean, both shows are the pilars of what TV shows of that kind are like today, don´t you think?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thanks for commenting and sharing the Charmed love! So glad it's one of your favourite shows too. You're missing season 3 from your favourite seasons order, where would you put it? And my favourite seasons in order are completely different to yours haha it goes:
    5 - 3 - 2 - 8 - 1 - 4 - 7 - 6
But I do absolutely adore Paige and even though I have Seasons 1, 4, 7 and 6 as my least favourite seasons, they all had some really standout amazing episodes in them.

    ReplyDelete
  14. just finished rewatching it for the 100th time. definitely my favorite show of all time.
i kind of hated prue though :/

    ReplyDelete
  15. You are right, I edited it already :P

    ReplyDelete
  16. Definitely agree. I am a huge fan of Buffy too and Charmed is always overlooked when it comes to comparing the two. They were both classic television shows airing around the same time which was awesome that they both came from the same network and are so much alike yet so different. I miss shows like Charmed and Buffy but I totally agree with you here.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Haha 100 times the charm, here's to the next 100 rewatches :P
I know a lot of people didn't really like her, and I found it hard to like her in the beginning as I found her too uptight in Season 1, but I ended up loving her during Season 2 and 3 that I felt it was such a shame when she died and she had so much more to do. But I don't blame you for having that opinion haha to each their own :P

    ReplyDelete
  18. Season 7 are almost everyone´s least favourite seasons, I thought it was awesome, the avatars were kinda anoying but Zankou was awesome, really like him and the actor

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ahh sorry, I didn't see that haha. Woohoo glad it's in your top 3!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I hated her too hahaha when I first watched it anyway. I loved Paige so much more, but rewatching Charmed over the years I realized that Prue was a really great character and I liked her.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It wasn't terrible, I mean it still had some really great episodes in it and I enjoyed it as a whole as I did with every season, but I think it lacked direction and the Avatars storyline wasn't handled the best. Zankou was awesome though, you're so right there, and the Season 7 finale is one of my favourite finales too! Zankou was one of the great villains on the show :D

    ReplyDelete
  22. haha fair enough. i just thought she was trying too hard to be fun. part of this is informed by the fact that i am the youngest of three same gendered siblings and my oldest brother is totally a season 1 prue and he tries too hard to be fun sometimes and it reminds me of seasons 2-3 prue :p

    ReplyDelete
  23. If it´s not in someone´s top 3, there´s something wrong with them haha :P

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes, totally agree! It was more after several rewatches that I really ended up loving Prue. I do love Paige though, probably more so than Prue but I love all of the Charmed Ones. Piper is my favourite.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It´s just that Zankou was the villain because Seasons 1,2,3,4,5,6 don´t have main villains, it´s actually the thing I don´t like that much about the show, sure, there was the source and cole but they were secondary, it´s not like Buffy, that had one developed villain in every season.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Piper is awesome, by far the best character in Charmed, and the actress was great. Then Paige, Phoebe and Prue, Prue is the last mainly because she didn´t appeared as much as the other ones.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Haha the whole sibling thing I completely understand. I am the middle child of 3 (and I actually have a 4th sibling, a half-sister just born a few years ago so I'm like 20 years older than her which now, when I think about it, is so weird considering how much that reflects Charmed), so I was very much like Piper. Fortunately my big sister was not like Season 1 Prue, though when we were little, she and my younger brother would gang up on me which was so mean.

I understand where you're coming from though. I feel for you, having a Season 1 Prue as an older brother haha and for being the youngest. I also see where you are coming from with the "trying too hard to be fun". There are moments in Season 1 where you are totally right about that, and even some times in Seasons 2 and 3. I did see her as more relaxed and less uptight in S2 and S3 and let her hair down once in a while even while trying her best to protect her little sisters :) Must have been hard for her.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yeah I agree with that. Piper and Paige are my top two for sure though. Piper always my first. Some seasons the order of my other favourite characters change, like Prue is my least favourite in Season 1, but she switches with Phoebe in Seasons 2 and 3. So even though Piper and Paige are my top two for Seasons 4-8 which makes Phoebe my least favourite for those seasons, I still absolutely love her. We may have a least favourite Charmed One but that doesn't mean they're bad. They're all amazing :D

    ReplyDelete
  29. Haha yeah I think we are too :P I have been reading the Season 9 comic and I'm looking forward to Season 10. I wish Shannen would let them use her likeness for Prue since Prue is back. But having comic books isn't the same as seeing the actresses on screen. We won't let the franchise die ever :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Talking about Charmed and thinking about it makes me wanna continue rewatching it, gonna do it right now haha

    ReplyDelete
  31. That's true. Charmed was very much more demon-of-the-week with a multi-arc villain occassionally. I mean, Season 6 had Gideon but he was very sneaky and he wasn't all that great anyway and he was more of just a villain for the last few episodes of season 6 anyway. I did love Buffy's Big Bads every season, that show had some amazing villains. I'm actually thinking of having my next Throwback Thursday be a Buffy episode but I'm having a hard time choosing an episode for it since there are so many amazing episodes to pick from.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Haha excellent! I always want to rewatch Charmed. Halloween tomorrow and I am definitely going to rewatch the Halloween episode of Season 3, All Halliwell's Eve. I love that episode. Let me know how you get on with your rewatch, it's always so much fun :D Talking about Charmed always puts me in the mood for Charmed haha.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Pfff I have no idea, many people say that the best is Bargaining Part 1 & 2, but I don´t think so, it was a good finale, and I really didn´t mind Angel dying, I didn´t like him, as you can see I´m Spuffy, their relationship was the best :P
One of the best episodes for me were: Once more with feeling (s6) , chosen(season 7), dopplegander or something like that (season 3), the gift (s5), fool for love(s5), crush(s5) and I can´t think of more that I really love XD

    ReplyDelete
  34. One of the best episodes of the series, All Halliwell´s Eve, love it. I rewatched it a few weeks ago, now I´m with S6.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yay, I agree. Woohoo you're getting along nicely! It's always great rewatching the show but then I feel sad when I get to the end. No more :( We could have had 20 seasons and it still wouldn't be enough!

    ReplyDelete
  36. What are your favourite seasons of Buffy? Mine are 5,6,3,2,7,4,1.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I seriously can´t watch series finales, I can´t, it´s like if there was missing a hole in my heart so I´d rather not to rewatch it, sometimes when I feel strong I do haha :P A month or so ago I watched Buffy´s series finale and it broke my heart, again haha I´m a TV addict, I can´t help it :P

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mine are basically the exact same order, except Season 4 is my least favourite instead of Season 1. Season 5 was absolutely phenomenal with Glory and "The Body" and "The Gift" as 2 of the best episodes of television ever! Season 6 had the musical episode which was so amazing, I still listen to the songs and I have them on my phone haha. While I hated Season 4, one of my favouritest episodes of the show was "Hush". What's your favourite episode of the show, I think mine is probably "The Gift".

    ReplyDelete
  39. Haha excellent, glad to meet another TV addict. We need help, we might have to join a support group to help with our addiction. Series finales break my heart too, especially when they disappoint me. Fortunately, I'm satisfied with Charmed's (though the omission of Prue's photo pees me off).

    ReplyDelete
  40. The Manor blowing up was truly the moment I lost it in regards to everything that happened in this series. Everything else I handled well enough (I admit, I wasn't entirely a fan of Prue) but seeing the Manor blown to bits was just too much for me. Cried like a baby.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree, I do think the season 2 finale was great but definitely not my favourite in the show. Yay, I'm Spuffy too! I never watched 'Angel' as I didn't very much care for him in Buffy anyway but I might get around to watching it one day. I pretty much love all the episodes you just mentioned there! I think you mean "Doppelgangland" haha I love that episode too, and "The Wish" which introduced the Vampire Willow which was awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I can´t think of my all time favourite episodes because there are soooo many, but definitly Once more with feeling was awesome, and the final scene was awesome too haha The gift was amazing as well, Buffy´s sacrifice was beautiful. And probably the last 3 episodes of S6 with Dark Willow was AMAZING, love her as dark willow, she is my favourite villain, no one could stop her NOONE, not even Buffy herself. Many people say that S6 is awful but it was awesome. My favourite villains are Dark Willow, Glory, the first, the mayor and faith, the master and Adam. Yours?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Haha. The Manor was like another character on the show wasn't it, and man I loved that Manor! I really want to live in it so badly. It's the house I need to live in when I can afford to get builders to replicate it haha and I am definitely going to get them to do it :P Glad to know I'm not the only person who cried.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Amazing villains you just listed there! Dark Willow and Glory are my favourites - Girl Power!! I agree with you on S6. I know it was a little silly and campy at times, especially with Andrew and Warren and Jonathon, but that's what makes the last 4 episodes of S6 all the more intense because it just amped up the tension and amazingness of Dark Willow. Just fantastic. I loved when Faith turned bad in Season 3, and her return in Season 4. She was another phenomenal character.

  45. I think that they couldn´t because they didn´t have the rights to do it. I think I recall watching in that S5 episode where Piper and Leo go to therapy and do a spell that sends Paige and Phoebe to their memories that when they are watching the Piper and Leo wedding scene when Prue takes off in a motorcycle with that guy, it wasn´t her, they remade the scene, and I thought really? they couldn´t even show that? I was so obsessed back then that Paige saw prue in a photo or a flashblack but now I know that they couldn´t use any photo of her

    ReplyDelete
  46. You know, for me, two of the most acclaimed episodes of the series that they say is the best and all that, The Body and Restless, for me they were boring as hell, specially Restless, I will never ever watch it again, and The Body had some very good acting but it was still boring, because I don´t understand why the gang feel that sorry for a character hadn´t appeared that many times, if Xander or some major character would have died then it would have been understandable.

  47. It's not really about the different teams, but about character development and I just LOVED Phoebe and Piper in later seasons. So yeah, second half! I never missed Prue, but that might be connected to the (true) rumor, that Alyssa Milano and Shannen Doherty didn't get along on set and because I always favorited Alyssa/Phoebe, it wasn't a big loss for me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Character development over the course of the show was definitely more important than teams, I agree. I just love the dynamic between the sisters in Seasons 2 and 3 as they just... connected! Having said that though, you could tell how much the characters had grown in the later seasons and they had definitely became more real to me by the end of the show. I love Alyssa Milano, I love her in Mistresses and the fact that she's now leaving the show makes me not want to watch it, which I can't just drop since I'm the reviewer for the show for SpoilerTV haha so I'm obligated to watch. I am a fan of Shannen Doherty though but I can understand why people might not like her.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yeah I totally get that they would need to pay Shannen royalties for using her photo. They could have used her photo though, they just would have had to pay Shannen to use it. I know they had a low budget in the 8th season but they should have just paid her because then that's all the budget gone and it's the end anyway so it wouldn't have mattered. I wish we had a scene of Paige getting to know Prue by looking at photos of her and have Piper and Phoebe tell Paige all about her and the adventures they had together.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I like Restless but I agree with that one. However, I adore The Body. It invoked such emotion and it felt so raw and real that I couldn't help thinking that it was my mother who had died instead. Just Buffy's reaction and Dawn's at the school. The whole build-up that something normal had happened, not magical, which just struck a nerve. I mean, I know Joyce wasn't always important in the show but you have to think that Buffy and Joyce would have been in Sunnydale around 4 years by then and there would have been moments off-screen that Joyce would have had with everyone, you know things we never got to see. We saw that flashback of Christmas dinner, they could have had Christmas with Joyce before that too. They would have seen Joyce a lot more than we saw on screen.

  51. The rumors were B.S. They had issues just like everyone. Alyssa and Shannen's feud is the most overrated thing of all time. They have both talked to each other a couple of times since then.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I haven't seen her in much, but there is a lot of bad media about her and it feels like she might just not be a nice person. I can't really say that though, because I don't know her :)
I will stop watching Mistresses as well. When they destroyed my ship I was close, but now I will stop. No Savi, no show and I don't think they'll be able to safe it from cancellation now :(

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree, Season 3 will be Mistresses' last, I doubt very many people will return to the show now Alyssa will be gone and there was a lot of backlash with the whole Joss and Harry pairing. It's such a shame too because I was really enjoying the show.
As for Shannen Doherty, I've seen her in a lot of stuff and she's a great actress. I can't speak for what she's like as a person but on Twitter she's very kind to her fans and gets involved with a lot of charity work too. Plus she's best friends with Holly Marie Combs and they're always together so I guess Shannen can't be that bad a person for Holly to be her best friend since Holly is one of the nicest celebrities ever.
Did you see Shannen and Alyssa have made up though? A few years back, they were tweeting each other, wishing each other luck on their new shows and stuff. Plus, they are both totally up for doing a Charmed reunion so they must have buried the hatchet at some point, which I am so glad!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yeah I saw they made up as they were speaking to each other on Twitter. I mean, they probably did fall out and it caused issues but Shannen and Alyssa both have big personalities so it was very likely they'd clash. I am so glad they've made up though, I hate when celebrities I like fight. They're both up for a Charmed reunion so there mustn't be any bad blood between them anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I never understood mhy they cut their budget for season 8 when Buffy had the same ratings in season 7 and Sarah michelle gellar got 350000 $ instead of the 150000$ she used to get, and the especial effects and all were teh same.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Love, love, LOVE this episode!! :D Charmed is my all-time favourite show too. I loved every moment of it, even at its weakest points.
For me, I went with the reconstituted Charmed Ones because Paige is my favourite of the four sisters and though I love Prue, I really love the dynamics of the newer Charmed Ones. I would have loved Prue to live but her dying meant we got Paige so I'm glad it happened, I feel like Prue not dying in this episode would somehow mean the episode fell short.

Also, I have everything crossed that they'll do some sort of reunion episode/movie/special :D

    ReplyDelete
  57. I look back at the times we would watch Charmed at each other's houses or talk Charmed all-day-long at school fondly. I agree though, even at its weakest points, Charmed was still awesome!
I know how much you love Paige, and I love her too, she elevated the show once she got settled and really came into her own. As you know Season 5 is my favourite haha and she's mainly the reason why.

Ooo you could definitely be right about the episode falling short if Prue didn't die. I mean, the whole exposure and everything and Piper getting shot was awesome, but time reset so technically, in the show's timeline, all of that didn't actually happen, so if Prue didn't die, then I guess the whole episode would have been pretty pointless. Still would have been exciting, but pointless. I'm glad we got Paige too. We got to see a new side of the characters and the show we had never seen before.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Exactly. I miss Charmed so much. My first true love.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Charmed has been cheating on me with you? Haha that's okay, Charmed is so beloved, I think people will still be watching the show for years to come.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah. We have had dozens of reruns here in France but I never get tired of this show.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have so much things to say about Charmed but I can't. Let's start with this episode : one of the best and obviously one the most heartbreaking (along with 4.20 when Phoebe kills Cole and 4.02 when Piper lashed out at Prue's grave) episode of the show. I felt like I had lost someone when Prue died. I was fuming. I didn't wanna love Paige, and I didn't for a long time; but I really love all 4 girls now. Looking back, I think season 4 was Charmed's strongest season because of Prue's death. It was just very dark and very sad but they all played their part perfectly. One thing I have to adress is Cole : what an amazing character. I'm still pissed he and Phoebe didn't end up together because they were true love, no matter what the show said. It still feels weird watching the first seasons with Prue, and then the others. I blame Brad Kern for the issues. One thing Charmed got very lucky was to cast Rose McGowan : it could have been a disaster but she was perfect. It wasn't easy because The Original Charmed Ones had some crazy chemistry.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yeah there's just so much to talk about Charmed isn't there? Yes, when Phoebe kills Cole and when Piper has her breakdown are both amazing, fantastic, well-acted scenes that break my heart. I completely felt the same way! It wasn't easy for Paige to be introduced as a replacement but she became so much more than that. Besides Piper and Leo, the relationship I do love is Phoebe and Cole and I do wish things turned out different, but I guess they couldn't :(
Rose McGowan is a shining example of amazing casting as Paige. Like you said, it could have went terribly wrong but they sold it. Both sets of Charmed Ones have amazing chemistry, could you imagine the chemistry between all 4 of them on screen - electric!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm guessing The WB was more uptight about its budgeting since 2005-06 was also the network's last season before it became defunct. I don't completely understand it either as I'm sure they could have forked out some more cash since one of their biggest shows was entering its final season, they should have wanted the show to go out with the dignity it deserved since Charmed had the highest-ratings for a pilot on the WB at the time of its premiere (later beaten by Smallville in 2001). I didn't know that's how much Sarah Michelle Gellar got paid, that's insane. I wonder how much Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan got paid in the final season of Charmed.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It used to be on TV all of the time in the UK. That's how I started watching the show because it was on every single day with back-to-back episodes on LIVINGtv. Now the show is on Netflix and on DVD, the show is everywhere haha.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I loved this episode Sooo much. And Original!! I hated Paige, I adjusted of course, and watched it til it ended but Paige really bothered me.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wow its been forever this episode aired. I loved this episode, and great send-off for Prue. Its interesting hearing Shannen talk about this episode at conventions, and that the cliffhanger was done on purpose incase Shannen decided to return, and that she requested more blood on Prue in the episodes end.

Season 1 to 4 is the best period, the show just completely changed and went downhill afterwards, and the storylines were not as dark and interesting as season 1 to 4.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'd so want to see all four sisters, 100% the only thing in the entire series that truly had to happen. If Charmed had a great budget in season 8, and no Billie. They could of brought back Prue and ended the series with four sisters. Maybe even pulling the comics storyline, have Prue appear glamored as Patience for a few episodes, before revealing its Prue.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I agree, they both were professional women, they should of just got over it, like on Desperate Housewives some hated eachother, but still stayed on and just learnt to leave with it. But I dont think the feud was the true reason Shannen left. In charmed conventions she attends in recent years, she always talks about how she decided to leave the show, but they tried to keep her, but who knows whos telling the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Charmed had a hold. I have every season on DVD right now. the series finale i remember hoping Shannon would make a cameo but she didnt. I did cry because it was the end of a cult classic. one of my favorite shows EVER. CHARMED FOREVER!
    I loved you review

    ReplyDelete
  70. I agree, it was a great send-off for Prue, totally exciting and dramatic. Paige is a great character, and if Prue had of stayed, she would have been a fantastic ally instead of a sister if they decided to not go the half-sister route.

I didn't know that they kept it as a cliffhanger just in case Shannen came back. It's a shame that she was basically forced off the show the way she was and that sounds like she didn't really want to go either. I bet if they could do it all again, things would have been different.

I do love some of the silly things that happen in season 5 and onwards, and I love Season 5, but 6-8 weren't exactly up to scratch unfortunately. My favourite period was 2-3 where they had the best storylines and it just felt more magical than the later seasons.

Oh my God yes, the Morality Bites storyline! That would have been awesome to actually see play out! There are so many possibilities the show could have explored with Prue, it's a shame we'll never see what would have happened and things happened the way they did.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yay! I remember hoping for it too and was so disappointed that she didn't. Having said that though, the series finale was still great and I still cry at the end. CHARMED FOREVER!
And thanks very much, I appreciate you reading it, us Charmed fans have to stick together!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Yay glad you loved the episode too! What was it about Paige you didn't like? I love the Original Charmed Ones, 1-3 is the best period of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  73. All we would have needed was Shannen and Alyssa to get along in 2005-06 for that to happen and have Shannen come back. Now they've buried the hatchet but back then it probably wouldn't have been possible to have them in the same room together. But yes, the Power of Four HAD to happen and it was such a shame it never did (until the comics).

    ReplyDelete
  74. If Shannen really decided to leave, it must have been the worst decision she ever made considering how fondly she remembers the show. I don't think she left by choice which is a shame considering she lost a really great job.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I agree, infact Shannen herself admitted she regretted this decision and said she should of stuck around longer at the convention appearances.

But I really do wish Prue had stayed for just one more season, I just felt Prue should of been there to vanquish the source, then in season 5 we can introduce Paige. That way things would flow alot better, without season 4 feeling so rushed, where they had two seasons worth of story all put into one season. I guess they did this, because they didn't know if the show would survive past season 4.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I agree, she would of worked as an ally 100% and they could still keep her backstory with finding her real family, who wouldn't be Halliwell related.

I guess we shall never know 100% what really went down. oh well.

There was maybe a few episodes in season 5, I loved but I just felt it went a little too different. But I guess the show really went downhill once Wyatt was born, the first half of season 5 was good. I loved season 1-4 period, and season 1 is so underrated, its actually very good, and its the only season the charmed ones think for themselves without Leo offering advise, who I felt really shouldn't have been forced into every single episode.

I wished Constance M. Burge stayed and wasn't forced out after season 3 like Shannen. She had a great vision, and her and Brad Kern worked better together as a team. I reckon the show wouldn't have turned as bad if she stayed.

I know, I always felt it was a missed opportunity to not go back to that. The Nathaniel Pratt guy, basically lived in there neighborhood and we never came back.

I agree its a real shame, sometimes I pretend that season 4 onwards happened in an alternate universe where Prue died, and the real season 4 onwards with Prue alive happened lol

    ReplyDelete
  77. Charmed was one of my first tv obsessions, and Prue was my favorite character. I have two sisters so I connected a lot to that aspect of the show a lot. Especially because my older sister was like a more intense, less forgiving Prue and I could understand my sister by seeing how tough it was being the one who always takes charge, with all that weight on her shoulders. Since i was very young when this episode aired (about 12) and not versed on the internet, I had no idea she was actually DEAD dead. It hit me so hard when the funeral happened that season four premiere, but I ended up adoring Paige and appreciating her not as a Not Prue but as her own well rounded character. And her addition fit perfectly in with the storyline they had with their mother loving a white lighter. Charmed doesn't get enough credit for being a strong character drama. I ended up not sticking with show after season six or seven (the mermaid episode did it for me), but the show has a special place in heart and I always look back on it fondly.

I did come back to the series finale and I was blown away by how satisfying it was (besides, of course, no Prue whatsoever, damn actor stubbornness). I liked it so much I went in search for the shows on DVD, and I ended up buying seasons 3 and 4, because I loved that s3 is more or less a send off to Prue and s4 is an introduction to Paige, and so much time is actually spent trying to find how the narrative works now that Prue was gone. I really appreciated that she was this presence Paige had to deal with, and Paige really goes through a learning process that is fun to watch (the body switching episode is one of my favorites).

I'm like yourself with the All Hell Breaks Loose episode. It's the one episode of Charmed I ALWAYS go back to, and watch at least once a year. And Shannen Doherty goes out with a bang, not just acting wise, but as a director. It was a shame she left the show.

    ReplyDelete
  78. That's cool, I didn't know that. I'll check that out! Thanks for the pointer.
Anyway, I'll go and write/read some Mistresses fanfiction now, because I ship Savi/Harry and that ship sailed.

  79. Thats alot of money, do actors these days on CW get payed that much?

  80. My favourite seasons in order are;
    3 - 4 - 1 - 2 - 6 - 7 - 5 - 8

    ReplyDelete
  81. Thats true it didn't have many big bads of the season. But season 2 was the only season to truly not have a main villain at all for all 22 episodes that went for more than one episode.

Season 1 - Rex and Hannah (first half of season)
    Season 2 - none
Season 3 - Cole/Traid (first half of season)
Season 4 - Source and Cole
Season 5 - Cole (few episodes)
    Season 6 - Gideon
    Season 7 - Zankou
    Season 8 - Christy/Traid

    ReplyDelete
  82. As for your Buffy throwback thursday, I suggest doing Becoming, you could get away with doing both part 1 and 2. Theres alot of different episodes to pick, but this one stands out because it goes through alot of flashbacks, and layed out alot in terms of plot, and it was a pretty big final.

Episodes like Restless, The Body, the musical or Hush are good episodes, but they are more like special episodes since all of them are not your typical episode.

But its up to you what you pick, but I suggest picking an episode that isn't too demon of the week.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I change between season 2 and 3 as my favourite seasons all the time. Season 1 I felt it was too demon of the week, but we got 12 episodes. Had it been a full season, we would of gotten way more Darla, maybe some history on the Master and stuff, maybe more Jenny. I kinda wished it was a full season, but then I believe half the demon of the week episodes from season 2 may have been moved to season 1, since alot of the season 2 ones felt like season 1 style episodes.

    Anyways my rankings;
    Season 3, Season 2, Season 5, Season 7, Season 6, Season 4, Season 1

Am I the only one who loved Angel, but unlike so many. I hated season 5 alot, it just was good, but I liked the old style Angel investigations, and no Cordelia really made the season suck. I liked season 1 and 2 of Angel the most though.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I loved Faith, she was the only character who truly deserved to be a regular. She was awesome on Angel too.

She should of came back earlier in season 7, waiting until the final 5 episodes felt rushed. Should of been around the time Giles came back with potenial slayers.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I´m n¡talking about how much she got paid at the end of the season, not per episode. Per episode of the last season was 16000.
Nina Dobrev gets paid 30000$ per episode of TVD, and her costar(Ian and Paul that much as well) so yeah, they get paidmore, at least them, don´t know about other CW actors

    ReplyDelete
  86. I would love to be a television actor, they get really good pay. Nina Dobrev is a lucky girl!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Yeah I remember reading somewhere that Rose thought she would just be there to do 1 season and that was it, so I guess Season 4 was a bit of a limbo season. I do wish Prue had at least 1 more season as 66 episodes just isn't enough when you compare it to 178 that the show had. Prue kicking the Source's ass would have been such an amazing moment.

    ReplyDelete
  88. You write Mistresses fanfiction? That's awesome! I was hoping by series end Savi would get back with Harry but I guess now that's never going to happen. Man I'm so depressed thinking about Mistresses without Savi :(

    ReplyDelete
  89. I think the general concensus among fans is that season 3 is awesome! I haven't read the Season 8 comics of Buffy though I do plan to. I have read Charmed Season 9 which was pretty cool but the comics just can't reach that level of the TV shows.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Actually, someone else is going to be doing those Buffy episodes (Becoming Pts 1 and 2) in the next few weeks for their throwback thursday so if I want to do Buffy I'd have to pick another episode. I would probably pick the Season 5 finale, The Gift, mainly because I adore the score of the episode and the fact that when I listen to it now, it still makes me cry.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I don't know how different Season 2 would be if they went for a recurring villain. I do love most of the episodes of season 2 as it has a lot of standout episodes (aka Morality Bites, Awakened, P3 H20), especially episodes that dealt with their sisterly love. For instance, when Phoebe gets burned at the stake after Prue and Piper tried to save her but Phoebe accepted her fate, and when Prue and Phoebe try to save Piper in Awakened. Then there's the backstory of their mother and how they lost her in P3 H20. So I guess Season 2 mainly worked because it had room to develop the main characters rather than introduce a Big Bad because then the focus would have been shifted to vanquishing the big bad.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I would have liked more Darla in Buffy Season 1 and some backstory on the Master. That would have been awesome. I do forgive Season 1 a lot because it had less episodes and it was trying to find its feet.
I'll try and give Angel a try one day and let you know how I get on with it. I'm open to liking it even if I'm not the biggest fan of the character but I do love Cordelia (I know what happens to her though which sucks).

    ReplyDelete
  93. Could you imagine if Faith had of been in all of Season 7? I did enjoy Season 7 to some extent but I felt a lot of the episodes were misguided and jumbled. With Faith in the mix, I'm pretty sure Season 7 would have been even more awesome. Like you said, it did feel rushed in the last 5 episodes for her return so to have more time to develop her and ease her into the final season would have been much better. I love Eliza Dushku.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I understand completely why people wouldn't like Season 5 as much as there were episodes that really stunk. I guess I just like to be different haha. The highlights of Season 5 for me were the Mermaid episodes, the Happily Ever After episode, the 100th episode, the episode Wyatt was born (because I loved how they lost their magic for a day, so great), but I guess you have a point about the show going downhill after they welcomed a baby into the family. A lot of shows do when a baby gets brought into it.

Season 1 is definitely underrated. There were just so many classic episodes in the first season that really stand out. I never even thought about how Leo changed the dynamic until you mentioned it, but yeah, in Season 1 the Charmed Ones were very self-reliant and really figured things out for themselves. I missed that. With Constance M. Burge, the show felt more magical in the first 3 seasons. I don't know how to explain it but I think the magic in the show gradually lessened by the end. Such as, basically every demon looked the same in the later episodes and there wasn't much imagination to them, whereas we had monsters and demons like the Wendigo and Belthazor etc. in the earlier seasons.

Even just a cameo by Nathanial Pratt in a random episode of a later season would have sufficed. Just to have one of the girls, maybe Phoebe bump into him one day and have that awkward moment. Just a little nod to that would have been cool. An alternate reality would be awesome, they really should do something with that.

    ReplyDelete
  95. So cool that you can relate to the sister aspect of the show. You are so right though, Charmed wasn't given enough credit for being an actual character drama too. We really feel for these characters because the actresses were so amazing at their jobs at portraying these women. They really should have won awards for their roles because they went through so much. When they cry, I cry, especially as you said at Prue's funeral. It really hits you then. We don't know she's dead in this episode (well, now we do but when we first watched it, we weren't sure, in fact, we wouldn't have expected it) but it's confirmed in the next episode and it's just heartbreaking, especially seeing how her sisters cope with her death. It's very real and raw and damn I wish Charmed was given more credit for that.

I'm glad you came back to the series finale and I agree, it was satisfying. I've mentioned before that I am devastated not even a picture of Prue was on the wall but I understand why it wasn't. It doesn't make it any easier though. I'm glad the show ended happy and not really sad, though I do feel sad for Prue because I feel like she missed out - she never got married (well, except for a warlock under a spell), she never had kids, she never met Paige. I feel so bad for her that it makes it appear that she's the weak one out of the sisters because she died. She wasn't weak but she missed out on so much :(

    ReplyDelete
  96. I understand that. I did like the Mermaid episodes too, they were alright.

There so many classic episodes in season 1 I liked, I actually didn't really hate any episode in season 1, even those fans hated. I missed it too, which is why when Leo was in less episodes in season 8, I actually loved that, and didn't hate the idea of him being gone half the season. It felt like it went back to season 1, where the girls were on their own to deal with the final battle, and I loved it. There was alot more magic in the first 3 seasons, and I felt it had more magic and witchcraft. Its ashame the show didn't go more into witch covens and focus more on witches and the craft, while the later seasons felt like they relied more on putting the girls in different sexy outfits, spells gone wrong and changing them into different things like gods, genies etc. they went too far away from the original vision of the series first few seasons. It felt like the show lost its spark, once The Source was killed. It was like, how can you defeat the Source of ALL evil, it made no sense. They rushed into it with season 4, since well I gather they were unsure if it would continue past season 4, with Paige. So I understand that.

Demons really got boring in later seasons, and were not as original and scary like the early seasons, like you mentioned.

I agree, something like that would of been great, just to kinda keep some continuity with that episode in mind. Instead they always go on and on about Piper and her future life. Maybe the future episode would of been better if Leo wasn't in it, and Piper's husband or ex, was a mystery. That way Piper's relationship with him, didn't have to depend on that alternate future. Also it would make people question if maybe Dan was her future husband, because I hated that Piper/Leo/Dan storyline, since we all knew she chooses Leo, and after seeing that future, even though that future never happened. Also it felt kinda random with Leo in Mortality Bites, since the last time we saw him in Love Hurts, he and Piper seemed like they had parted ways, then hes back with her in Mortality Bites, and it felt out of nowhere.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Wow that would of been amazing, I wished that happened. But I guess I can see why it was delayed, because Faith was still in jail on Angel, and she did a 3-episode arc on Angel before Willow showed up on Angel to get her. But they could of got her out of prison the previous season on Angel, then brought her back on Buffy.

I love Eliza Dushku too and yes it would of been more awesome if we got more Faith. I really felt season 7 was a little over the place, sometimes I wished the Potential Slayers didn't get so much attention and screen-time, maybe they should of left it to only two or three.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I think that would of been awesome, I do forgive it because it had less episodes too, and it was the first season. Darla did however get so much development on Angel it was amazing, and I love season 2 of the show the best.

Give it a try one day, and let us know what you think of it. I love Cordelia too, and it sucks what happened to her. I guess nobody to truly to blame, but I wasn't happy with the behind the scenes issues regarding her exit and other things.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Me either not sure how it would of been, and yes there was alot of main character development and stuff which I loved. Season 2 had so many sisterly moments and good episodes and the ones who suggested were awesome episodes. I also loved Ms. Hellfire too and Pardon My Past.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Awesome look forward to it. The Gift is a good episode too, and I loved it too.

  101. Cool. I have read the season 8 comics, they are good, but I'm kinda missing issues from alot of those seasons and wont read properly until I get hold of them in order.

I love the comics, and think they are great. I feel season 9 is better than some of the later seasons, but thats just me. I loved how they brought Prue back, It was an amazing feeling to see her reunite with her sisters, but it wasn't the best as it wasn't a tv episode.

  102. Interesting, I do know that Rose loved the show, but I could tell she never thought she would be there for 5 seasons, I think she was glad to leave, I think she didn't like doing full-time tv show for years, and loved doing movies more, as she admitted in interviews.

Yeah it wasn't enough 66 episodes for Prue, and if she stayed one more, at least the half way point would be Prue's death, and it would even out the series perfectly.

It would of been amazing to see, and also the Phoebe being evil story so screamed potenial to happen when Prue was alive. If Prue didn't die, I think this was the plan at the beginning of season 4, as Phoebe would of remained in the underworld with her deal with The Source, if Leo had healed both Piper and Prue on time.

  103. Me too :(
I haven't written anything yet, but I will, I just have to rewatch some stuff first.

  104. Yeah we could tell Rose wanted to move on and do movies. She's fantastic in movies, don't get me wrong, but I would so love her to be on TV full-time again in a show I love. I do love her appearances as Young Cora in Once Upon a Time.

88 episodes for Prue would have been so much better, maybe she could have met somebody she loved in the fourth season before she died. I just wish she had a happy ending like her sisters did, just makes her so left out. I love Phoebe turning evil storyline so to have Prue be there for it would have been awesome, just to see how she would have dealt with it. You could be so right about Phoebe remaining in the Underworld as per her deal in All Hell Breaks Loose. Weird to think of all the possibilities the show could have done.

  105. Yeah I so would have loved Prue's return as a TV episode. I just wish Shannen would allow them to use her likeness. I have no idea why she won't let them, I mean, all those problems she had on the show must have been resolved by now as she's made up with Alyssa and stuff so nothing is stopping her.

  106. Yes! Those 2 episodes were also awesome! Fun fact, I was in 2 issues of Charmed Magazine, one of them for a 'favourite episode' segment and I chose 'Chick Flick' back then because I just love the whole horror movie aspect of it even though it is a bit of a silly episode.

  107. Oh I don't know what happened behind the scenes regarding Cordelia's exit. Was it really bad?

  108. It was due with Charisma's real life pregnancy in Angel season 4 and why she got cut to return in season 5, but It more sad to think that Your Welcome never would of had Cordelia, if Sarah Michelle Gellar who was suppose to return wasn't busy, Cordelia was their next pick. Had Buffy appeared in the only episode Cordelia was in during season 5, who knows if Cordelia would ever return. But they all made up when Charisma did return for her exit episode, so in the end it all came full circle thank god.

Still I'm sad, she was the heart and soul of the show, and its why I dislike season 5 of Angel, and what they did to Fred 2 episodes after, it just made me annoyed. I'm actually glad Angel got canceled after season 5, I dont think I would of enjoyed season 6, as the show lost me already during season 4 and 5.

  109. I've been obsessed with witches all my 30 years on this earth (just look at my avatar), but Charmed was not worth watching after the third season finale. All hell really did break lose after Prue's death/Shannen's departure.

  110. She didn't decide to leave. She was fired and received a phone call from her agent while shooting a film in Australia. She's answered candidly about this, so I'm surprised people are still speculating about what happened. Alyssa's mother/manager Lynn Milano is the one who poisoned her mind against Shannen and gave her the idea of presenting an ultimatum before the network as to which one of them would stay. Brad Kern chose Alyssa because (1) he favored her and (2) Shannen had sided with Connie Burge in her vision for the series, and had also been instrumental in changing the course of her character (she had pushed for her to become a photographer. Shannen had also become more involved behind the scenes, having directed 3 episodes (I think) by the third season finale. Kern was afraid of the clout Shannen was developing with the crew.

  111. I've got to admit, the show really did change after the 3rd season, and even though I love Season 5 for its silliness, the show never topped the Original era of Seasons 1-3 even though it tried. Considering Charmed is my all time favourite show, I do wish some things had happened differently.

It's so cool you're obsessed with witches too, honestly I am as well. I love all shows led by witches, such as Charmed, Eastwick, Witches of East End, which is why I want a witch show right now that can fill that void. I hate that Witches of East End was cancelled so now I'm left with nothing!
Thanks for commenting on my review though, this episode was the best and you're right, all hell did break loose.

  112. I think the whole thing surrounding Shannen's departure will always be gossiped about until Shannen and Alyssa both state bluntly what happened because fans just love to speculate. What you say sounds right though. I did hear there was an ultimatum between Alyssa and Shannen and they decided to keep Alyssa and fire Shannen. I'm glad Shannen sided with Constance though because Constance created the show and she knew what was best for it. I always thought the show was more magical with Constance at the helm and Season 2 was really when the show was at its most comfortable with the perfect balance of magic, family and character development. Such a shame the show couldn't keep that 1-3 standard.

  113. As far as witch-centric shows go, there is still Salem on WGN America. I found it to be slow and insipid, but the final two episodes of the season are crammed with developments.

  114. I wish I'd seen this when it was posted last week -- Charmed was my first weekly obsession on tv, and I started watching halfway through season 3. "All Hell Breaks Loose" was probably my first experience with a "Season finale" and it totally hit 10 year-old Wilson so hard to see Piper die in the middle of that chaos and hate. Then, the last scene at the end where Tempus' plan works and Shax returns this time to take out possibly both Piper and Prue as well as the doctor, leaving the door slamming and shattering, I was just blown away. I remember watching it with my mother in her room and we both were just left thinking HOW???

The whole episode itself though was just so strongly handled, and even if most of the show ended up being fluffy or handled the lore clumsily, the core cast was perfect. To this day, Piper (and to a very close extent, her 3 sisters) is one of my very favorite characters. They killed it in that finale, it's still one of my favorite episodes of any tv show I've ever seen, and people who talk shit about Charmed likely never saw this one.

  115. Hey, thanks for commenting now, even if you didn't see it last week. So glad to see Charmed was your first weekly obsession too. It's crazy to think how you started the show mid-season 3 and then suddenly Prue is dead. The first episode I ever watched was "Look Who's Barking", the one with the Banshee which is the episode right before this one, so when Prue died, I had only seen 2 episodes, so my mind was literally numb. I was so blown away and devastated. I feel very sorry for 10-year old Wilson, sounds like the guy hit it hard with this one which is totally understandable!

I agree with everything you said. Piper is definitely one of my favourite characters of any TV show as well as her three sisters as they just had the best chemistry and were perfect. I bet if those people who talk shit about Charmed had seen All Hell Breaks Loose, they'd reconsider their statement. Charmed has and always will be a true television classic :)
