The SpoilerTV Favourite TV Series Competition 2014 - Day 24 - Outlander vs. Person of Interest & The Borgias vs. House

Oct 2, 2014

Hey all,

It seems like just yesterday that we entered 2014, as my Episode Competition came to a close. Instead, October began today and we have just three months of the calendar year remaining. With that in mind, it's probably worth pointing out that after today, we only have seven days left of this competition, after which we will have named SpoilerTV's favourite series for another year.

Day 23 saw Hannibal knock out The 100, while there was an incredibly narrow win for Revenge - winning by only 11 votes. The competition is beginning to heat up, so make sure that you do vote and spread the word - your vote will matter!

Today we see Outlander face Person of Interest, before our last poll in Round Two features The Borgias, which takes on House.

Reminder of the rules:

1) Two shows will go into battle in a poll, where after exactly 24 hours, the leading show will win the battle and will progress into the next round.
2) Vote for your favourite, spread the word with your friends & fans.
3) Comment on what you voted for on in the comments below.
4) Have fun. This is a friendly & competitive competition. Please do not start attacking other fans or fangroups in the comments, because this really isn't what this competition is about.

  4. Person of Interest and House

    ReplyDelete
  5. Voted for Person of Interest because it has had 4 years of pure brilliance (and still is) while Outlander has just started to become a great show.

    ReplyDelete
  6. POI and House. I miss House and Wilson.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Outlander! I'm obsessed.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Too bad The 100 is out! No vote for me today.

  9. Person of Interest and House

    ReplyDelete
  10. Outlander for me :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Outlander and House. I don't watch Person Of Interest but I thought that was one of the most popular STV shows and it's losing. heh

    ReplyDelete
  12. House to win the entire competition!!!!! :D 💜

    ReplyDelete
  13. poi and -missed so much- gregory house

    ReplyDelete
  14. Is Outlander that good? It has a enormous fanbase and it's fairly new. Should I start watching the show?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Outlander, without question.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It's based on a book series that's been around for 20 years and has sold 25 million copies worldwide which is why the show already has a huge fan base. I haven't read the books and I'm really enjoying it. I hope to start reading the books soon cause I can't wait to find out what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Just Person of Interest today.

    ReplyDelete
  18. There is no contest here, POI is hands down better even though i quite like Outlander. House also gets my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Outlander? I haven't even heard of it! POI and House for me

    ReplyDelete
  20. Just Person of Interest for me today.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I've never seen, Outlander apparently it's pretty popular, voted POI good luck with that, and I still like the eccentric Dr House so he gets my vote, there are a lot of upsets going on so good luck to House!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Loved The Borgias but House wins this one.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Not looking good for Person of Interest, but I voted for it anyway. Also house for me as well.

    ReplyDelete
  24. POI and House for me today!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow. can't believe Person of Interest is going to lose so badly.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Why does Outlander keep going against shows I can't help but choose? I love Outlander, it's such a great show, but POI has been a great show for three seasons and it looks like it will keep on going like that, so I have to vote for POI because you can't compare half of a strong season against three.
And for poll 2 House, because even if I wasn't a fan of the later seasons, it had several years of greatness. So that's that.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wow 745 votes for outlander , I looked about an hour ago and it had like 200 votes. Maybe it could win this year. I may have to check it out seeing as it is so popular.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Definitely an outside bet for the title (from the start, I mean - now I'm struggling to see anything beat it).

    ReplyDelete
  29. I dread to think what the final result will be , at this rate who knows how many votes it will get. If it wins the whole competition then it will definitely be a huge surprise seeing as the first season just finished.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Not even the first season - just 1a, as far as I understand it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. yep your right , it is on a mid-season break which makes it even more surprising that is doing so well , must have a huge following.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Will you not be reviewing Scorpion or something anymore? I noticed your name was taken of the spreadsheet. Your reviews were good.

    ReplyDelete
  33. No competition....hands down it is Outlander

    ReplyDelete
  34. Only outlander for me today, very easy choice. It's a brilliant show!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I've only seen one episode of Outlander and I really liked it. Hope to be able to marathon it soon. That said, I hope it's as good as their fervent fanbase. I'm shocked at the number of votes already.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm enjoying the series, but I found it difficult to review. It's in good hands with Lisa, I feel. Thanks though.

    ReplyDelete
  37. WOW, Person of Interest is so the better show and is one of the best shows on TV. Disappointed that there are so many Outlander fanbois

    ReplyDelete
  38. WTF POI losing by 700 to Outlander!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Voted House this time because I do like it as a casual watch.

Voted Outlander for the other one just because it seems more my kind of show than Person of Interest (which my mom watches)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow, I didn't know the Outlander fan base was so big! Isn't it a relative new show?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yep, very new. 2014, as it says next to its logo ;)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Fair enough, I am on the verge of stopping reviewing and watching Z Nation.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oops, that must have slipped past me! Anyway, I see in other comments that it is adapted from a popular book which explains the huge fan base.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Person of Interest and House. Looks like POI is going to lose this time :-(

    ReplyDelete
  45. Outlander, no doubt.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Wow, I'm FLOORED by POI's complete annihilation by Outlander. I don't think I've ever seen such a knockout within minutes in these things. I actually don't watch either show, but maybe I should check out Outlander. Looks quite impressive for such a new show (I realize it's based on well known books, but still).

    ReplyDelete
  47. Me too! Never heard of it. Guess I'd better check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I never really got into House, but I'm watching the Borgias now and I really like it. I loved The Sopranos and The Borgias is like The Medieval Sopranos.

    ReplyDelete
  49. it looks like its rivals BATB crazy fandom.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Woah, kudos to Outlander for absolutely obliterating Person of Interest! They deserve it for having such a breathtaking show.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Outlander!!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Person of Interest and House

    ReplyDelete
  53. Holy shit Outlander is slaughtering POI by almost a 950 votes,GAH!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm a bit shocked by how strong the Outlander fanbase got over just a few episodes... it's slaughtering POI!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Serious question - Is Outlander seen simultaneously here and in the UK?
Not so serious question - Why couldn't this show have been up against a certain show I wish had been taken out in the first round?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wail of misery..... I am forced to choose between Outlander and Person of Interest....I'm going with Outlander because I have been thoroughly enthralled this season...and POI hasn't always been perfect. Though if this was POI's first season I'd be a babbling heap on the floor incapable of making any choice at all.

    Nothing on the other poll.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Not fair, Outlander is a chick flicker, making guys outnumbered. I'll be curious to see what Gotham does.....That's a great show so far, even if it is on the dreaded FOX Network.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Me too, Outlander is lame.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I was expecting Outlander to be getting killed, wow.

Am I the only one who feels like Person of Interest is a grey-skies Burn Notice?

    ReplyDelete
  60. There must be a big or something because there is no way that chick flick is neuter that the masterpiece that is poi!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. This world does not deserve you, Person of Interest

    ReplyDelete
  62. Huh? Where in the world are male-oriented shows not the dominant force for television programming?

Crying unfairness on behalf of a CBS procedural is pretty funny though. Next thing you know, we're gonna beg to give the Yankees a handicap.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm kind of sad that some PoI fans feel the need to insult the other show and its fans. Calling it a chick flick? Really? Comparing them to the notorious part of the BatB fandom when Outlander fans haven't showcastped any kind of rabid and excessive behavior? Give me a break and stop being such a sore loser.

I watch both shows but I voted for Outlander because It is a truly fascinating show and I've been enjoying it more than PoI.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Is Outlander a new show? I don't know when the show started airing. Crazy amount of fans voting here. Even Game of Thrones doesn't normally get that many votes. I don't get those channels you pay extra for (Staz, HBO, etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  65. It started airing in August and is currently on hiatus.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Well there was a book series before.

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's based on books and if it's getting this much votes I think it will win.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I think they meant online. Shows that often have a lot of females tend to have more fans online. CBS has a lot of male-oriented shows but the fanboys don't talk and vote much online. Not like fangirls do. Speaking as a fangirl here.

    ReplyDelete
  69. It's just a fan poll. Fangirls vs. fanboys. Though there are plenty of women who watch POI.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Outlander has a very dedicated fanbase because its based on books which have been going for years now. Personally I can't see the appeal but some people are fans of a show and then others are FANS of a show, really big huge fans and Outlander seems to inspire that.

    ReplyDelete
  71. The books are so popular I'm surprised they went with TV show and not movies like most hits with romance involved.

    ReplyDelete
  72. i know but outlander just has 6 episodes how can it defeat a veteran?

    ReplyDelete
  73. It has books. Quite popular books. My hairdresser mentioned it to me once.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I know about the books. It was actually mentioned to me last year by 2 hairdressers.

    ReplyDelete
  75. For some things. In fact, I have a whole soapbox about the use of fangirl. (Not that I think you are using it in it's usual derogatory way :-)

Outlander's marketing opened up a whole negative can of worms with the attitude that shows marketed and/or geared towards women would not, and maybe ought not, find "mainstream" (read male viewership) success. I personally think women are conditioned to accept either a male or female orientation. Men aren't asked to do the same. For some reason, in this case, I got involved in the cause. To read a comment that a small second-tier cable show geared towards women was at an advantage after that enormous online discussion was both funny to me and a bit annoying. Plus, I don't like the idea of simply being geared towards women is an automatic negative.

    ReplyDelete
  76. oh!that could be it

    ReplyDelete
  77. Outlander, its a brillantly crafted show with impressive scenery, score, acting and dialogue to match. I want to clear the record, this show isnt just for girls, guys can enjoy it too, on Social Media, there are guys who enjoy the show. You cant simply dislike a show based on you preceptions without giving it a shot. I speak from experience as a guy who's throughly enjoyed this masterpice. There's a reason this show is praised by every critic I've read.

Romance isnt the domiant factor, its more of an afterthought, though alot of people are there for it. If your worried about that, dont let that put you off, its much more than that.

It has action, a beautiful leading lady and intriguing storylines with timetravel and history. This is a show that deals with politics very well. If you liked Disney's Brave or Game of Thrones, it has elements, but this show is very genre defying, its unlike anything on TV I've ever seen. I encourage guys and girls who havent seen it to give it a shot, everyone whos tried it, that I know and have talked to have enjoyed.

I also really like Person of Interest too.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yeah I've watched romances and there are really great ones. However the POI has more complexity and originality than any romance I've seen. I think it really depends on what someone defines as quality TV - in reference to school subjects. Is it literature class or is it math? Which class is it? It is truly down to opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  79. It is incredible how ingrained the male/female dichotomy can be with--all of its inherent hierarchy. Math vs lit. Romance versus action. And then we start using "romance" as an automatic negative. As though Finch's relationship with the the illustrator didn't vastly flesh out his character and that of the machine. Relationships are the lifeblood of drama. Oh it's a romance, recommended by hairdressers because they liked a boy. That sort of discussion is why I got involved in responding and why I get on a soapbox about it.

    ReplyDelete
  80. You keep massively editing your comments without noting it. It makes the conversation very difficult to follow.

    ReplyDelete
  81. It just bugs me when people just read/watch for the hot person. I watch/read for the plot whether action, romance, family, friendship, science fiction, drama, etc. Hot people are a dime a dozen on TV and in books. Not to say I don't drool, for lack of a better word, over some guys on TV, I do, but I don't watch a show just because I like them. I'm not into the idea of checking out Outlander because I'm not into historic stuff and HBO, Starz, etc. can be kind of racey for my tastes (Game of Thrones has rape, so forth).

    ReplyDelete
  82. Surprised by the PoI vs. Outlander result. I love Outlander, it's a great show, even better IMHO than the book, at least till the point where I was able to read it. Yet, it's an adaptation of a proven success while PoI is an intriguing, ever developing original story. To me it was not a question that I vote for the Team Machine.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I edit constantly on touchy subjects. Hard not to come off wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  84. That's probably for very different reasons though lol

    ReplyDelete
  85. Never heard of Outlander, POI and House for me today!

    ReplyDelete
  86. I promise I will give it a shot. :)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Yep it is , Z Nation is just crap.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Oh , they kind of explains the huge following of the show. It could well win the whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Revenge won versus HIMYM :( what kind of world we live in?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Its only been growing each episode in the ratings, the last three episodes have been series rating highs, the show is amazing!!!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Its not just about Romance, not even close. There is fantasy, war, politics, adventure, history, etc.

Think if Game of Thrones, Alice in Wonderland and Downton Abby had a child.

Sitting at a 90 on Rotten Tomatoes!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. The show is one of the best I have watched in sometime along with Penny Dreadful and the Leftovers and I am a guy!!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. I really like Outlander. But are you kidding me, 1985 to 393? My vote is clear. My 4th current series favorite:

    ReplyDelete
  94. Outlander is my only vote for today.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Cable is racy and there is violence and sex. I would say it is different than what you get with Game of Thrones, especially the sex. It is odd to say, but it is because it is geared towards women (and written and directed by women). There is a lot of online/critic discussion about the female gaze and it is a every interesting case to examine it--whether you like it or not, the difference and the response to it are intriguing to examine.

Regarding watching for a character, I think it is easy to demean the idea of watching for a "hot boy" but it isn't a just "hot" as in physically attractive. It is a character you want to root for, a character you want to see what happens to, a character for whom TPTB have created dramatic tension for you as a viewer. Plot is important, but if there isn't a character (or two) I care I about it could be the most active show on the air and there is no drama for me, there are no stakes. Lots of shows ran into that problem with the anti-hero craze. It's why I don't watch GoT anymore--there wasn't anyone left to root for. If they'd actually killed Jesse in season 1 of Breaking Bad I never would have made it to the end. Charlie Hunnam is cute and all, but once I stopped hoping for Jax, I dropped Sons of Anarchy. I'm not advocating for Outlander, but I am advocating for reconsidering the connotation that watching TV for relationships and characters is a negative concept enjoyed only by silly uneducated women.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I voted for Outlander, but I have to admit that it is a bit strange that there is a total of 2400 votes for the Outlander vs. POI poll and less than 1,100 votes for the House/Borgias poll. That discrepancy usually happens when a show has a group of extremely invested fans, but I didn't realize that Outlander was one of those.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Critics seem to love it but every episode just leaves me thinking that everything they do has already been done(and done better).

    ReplyDelete
  98. Surprised by Outlander. I've only heard about it once.. isn't this a very new show? Well, I chose House (I miss it!) and Person of Interest, which has been veeeery strong for Seasons. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  99. No vote, but wow, it will be interesting if Outlander competes with BATB. Maybe it's the same fanbase.
    Borgias.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Yeah it's a new show, it started in August. I suggest giving it a look, it's actually really good.

    ReplyDelete
  101. All I'm going to say is the Outlander fanbase is amazing for this new show, books or not, but I am skeptical about the amount of votes.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I am SO SORRY Outlander (although you're winning anyways), but I am more invested in POI, even though I love you and think you're a beautiful show!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Beautifully said! :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. I've heard good things about Outlander, but Person Of Interest has been a splendid exception to the other programming on CBS for 3 years now.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I have to say I was incredibly surprised when I clicked the cast vote button to see POI so far low.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Yeah those are "Beastie" numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Obviously someone with a more visited web page reposted this so people vote for Outlander.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Oh, come on, Outlander over POI... Outlander is very good, but POI is brilliant, and favorite ever show takes longer than 6 or 7 episodes. Maybe that's where the "awful ratings" came from on the last POI episode, rabid Outlander fans. I like it, but not like I love POI!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Wauw!! I´m so surpriced that Outlander has 83 % of the votes!! I thought POI had more fans on this site. I really like Outlander, so it is great to see it move on to the next round. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  110. I see questions about Outlander. Amazing show! EMMY worthy...its just that good! You'll be hearing a lot more about it in the future!! Outlander and House today.

    ReplyDelete
  111. And I've never been big on any of those shows/movies. BTW I like romance.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Well that is your opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  113. They tried. Several times. And failed. ;) You simply can't cram this book into a 2 hour movie (or the other books they'll hopefully adapt; a second season based on the second book has been ordered right after the pilot aired) .

    ReplyDelete
  114. No. As far as I know there isn't even an airdate for the UK yet. :(

    ReplyDelete
  115. Couldn't have said it any better! :)

    ReplyDelete
  116. Person of Interest always...
