What's the main goal for each character?
Because Esther has taken the form of a witch and she's brought her sons back and placed them in witch bodies, we explore the notion of Esther practicing witchcraft throughout her existence. Before she turned them, did Rebekah, did Kol have a certain proclivity for mama's teachings? Were some of the family more inclined to go hunting with dad, were some of the family when they were young more inclined to be studying the dark arts? The family right now, Esther, Kol and Finn, are very much in the world of the witches. Klaus and Hayley ... have a definite agenda with regard to the werewolves. And then there's Elijah -- he's the last vampire left, the last of the pureblooded Original vampires. You also have Marcel and his agenda to rebuild the vampire community.
The first season was very much about the four kinds of people -- the humans, the werewolves, the witches and the vampires and the Original family caught in between that. Now, those different sides all have a little bit more at stake and the witches are very much linked to what Esther has planned and even Mikael, because he's been brought back by a witch, has a certain stake in that particular game, no pun intended. I think we are going to absolutely explore New Orleans and that four-sided political agenda and how can these four sides of people ever live in peace, but the war is much more personal because now you have brother vs. brother and all the sides are represented by the Mikaelson family.
What kinds of flashbacks will we see in Season 2?
Right off the bat with both episodes 2 and 3 you're going to get some flashback stories. You're going to get to see a little bit more of how the Originals wound up leaving Europe and coming to America, what that looked like, and there's definitely a reference to some things we mentioned on 'The Vampire Diaries,' especially in the teaser for next week.
We'll also be flashing back, interestingly enough, to the earlier days when they were just normal people and we might even get a little bit into if we're going to bring back Mikael and Esther, what's their story? Where did they come from? In episode 16 last season, Klaus says, 'Something made my father the way he was.' We want to tell that story because it's an interesting part of why this guy goes around hunting his children and calling himself the destroyer and hating what he is, which is a vampire.

On the decision to kill the Guerrera wolves so quickly. “Our hope was that this would be the season about the return of mother and father and as you now know, the return of the brothers as well. They’ve been displaced in these bodies and there is a lot of family stuff that we need to get out. I think that’s the big theme of this season is the past returning to haunt you and enemies who are even more dangerous because they know you intimately, and as awesome as Francesca was, she was the last remnant of what happened last season. [There's] this great stalemate that they were facing—where is the stake, who’s in charge, what’s going to happen—and we played that out very quickly in one episode so we could see what’s even more evil and terrible than Francesca and her pack of werewolves. What’s Davina going to do with Mikael? What does Esther have planned with these brothers? So that’s the meat of what’s going to be our dramatic focus.”
We will get more Rebekah. “We’re going to see Rebekah; we’re going to see baby Hope and that’s going to be an important thing as to what Esther’s plan for that baby is,” Narducci said. “Esther thinks that the baby died. Esther doesn’t know where Rebekah is. She’s coming back with a definite agenda that we will start to see unpacked in episodes 2 and 3, and obviously, because Klaus and Elijah remained in New Orleans to be the target of whatever would come after the family, they will be the first ones that meet up with their mother and find out what her intention is and have to deal with what Mikael’s intention is and then down the line, that’s going to spread out to wherever Rebekah has herself hidden with the baby.”
Expect more background on both Finn and Kol. After teasing that we’ll finally get a glimpse into why Finn is so “adamantly on Esther’s side,” Narducci explained how Kol is “the Loki of our story.” That being said, “Where does he fall in terms of his loyalties and alliances is one of the great stories we’re going to play over the course of the season.”

AUNTIE BEX | If you found yourself chanting “More Rebekah, please!” after Monday’s premiere, we’ve got some good news: “We’re going to see Rebekah and we’re going to see baby Hope, and that’s going to be an important part [of the season],” Narducci teases. “As to what Esther’s plan for that baby is … Esther thinks the baby died. Esther doesn’t know where Rebekah is. She’s coming back with a definite agenda that we’ll start to see unpacked in Episodes 2 and 3.”
HAYLIJAH | If at all possible, Hayley and Elijah’s relationship is going to become even more complicated in Season 2. “She’s a mess and Elijah sees that,” Narducci notes. “But at the same time, he recognizes, ‘I can only help her so much because I’m not what she is. The person who is what she is … is my brother.’ You’ll get to see how that plays out, and I’d caution against anyone using the idea that this is going to be some kind of love triangle.” (Phew!)
JOSH’S BIG BREAK | After everything that happened in Season 1, you might wonder why Josh would stick around in New Orleans. Turns out, Josh is wondering the exact same thing. “He’s kind of Marcel’s last guy from that old regime, and he’s trying to figure out, ‘What am I fighting for?'” Narducci notes. “Coming down the line, we’re going to tell some really great romantic stories, and Josh has a really great story coming up.”

What are Kol's intentions with Davina? The second explores Kol's interests "and it takes off from there." While Esther may be dead-set on accomplishing her end-goal, Davina's presence (described as a "wild card") will be an obstacle she'll be forced to contend with. Kol, "who happened to be placed into the body of an extremely handsome and charming British witch might be the best guy to find out what's going on with Davina," Narducci said of Esther's plans.
Will Esther and Mikael reunite? At the moment, they do not know the other is back. "That's something else we'll have a little fun with and play with," Narducci said. Whether or not Esther and Mikael — who will attempt to escape from Davina's shackles — would be friends or foes should they meet again is a big question. "We will see that somewhere down the line," he hinted, alluding to a potentially ugly reunion.
What do Finn and Esther want with Cami? "They have one of the coolest reasons possible for wanting to get to know Cami and at first, you're going to think it's one thing and when you find out what it really is, you will be impressed," Narducci teased. "When the pitch came into the [writers'] room, I thought, 'Wow, that's freaky.' "

I tap my hat to these two, the season premiere was really well done. Knowing that it was shot RIGHT after the last season is actually a bit confusing since it felt so different from season 1. Like it had a darker and more eerie tone.
ReplyDeleteI really hope the ratings are solid O.O
I hope that ester, finn and kol get there original bodies back, I cant see them keeping them like this forever surely. I thought the whole purpose of the possessing was so they can be kept hidden from Elijah and Klaus for months without being exposed.
ReplyDeleteactually it's a loophole for Esther I think, Kol and Finn were vampires. vampires were the species Esther wanted and still wants to destroy. Thus she returned her children into non-vampiric bodies, now she has no purpose to kill them anymore.
ReplyDeleteI would assume she intends to do the same with Klaus, Rebekah and Elijah.
Great tip!
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited we'll find out what happened to turn Mikael into such a Klaus hating monster. I want to see that backstory.
ReplyDeleteso do i
ReplyDeletewhat does esther and finn want with cami and why is it freaky, i thought that the reason they're going after her is because klaus cares about her, i'd always did feel that kol is kind of loki except without the sometimes teaming up with the heroes, i can't believe the SOB escaped the other side in the nick of time damn it and now he's hitting on a 16 year old vomit, can he get any more slimy
